  1. So I looked at my computer performance in task manager and was surprised to see that it detects 16GB of ram(2x8GB ddr4 2666mHz) but uses less than half of it (7.9GB), the other part (8.1GB) is Hardware Reserved. It is the second computer I built from used parts. I tried to resolve my issue: I set a limit to how much memory windows can reserve (2GB), restarted and nothing happened, tried removing device drivers I no longer use, reset windows (keeping the files), reset BIOS, cleaned and reseated RAM sticks and still nothing changed... Can I try anything?
  2. About a month ago, I put 2 sticks of Corsair Vengence Pro RAM (2x16Gb 3200Mhz) in my computer. When I look at Task Manager, to see how much RAM is now in my computer, I see that half of my RAM is hardware reserved. It wasn’t like that before. I download the Corsair iCue software, update my GPU drivers (just in case), updated Windows, and still half of it was hardware reserved. So then I thought maybe the Corsair kit was bad so naturally, I took out the RAM and used my old sticks and same thing… Half of my RAM was hardware reserved. I’ve looked through the BiOS already for some weird setting but couldn’t find anything. I have a Gigabyte B450M-DS3H Mobo, Ryzen 5 2600X, and an ASUS 1660 Ti Phoenix. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  3. Hello, I have a problem with my RAM, i have a pair of corsair vengeance RGB 2x8GB DDR4, even if it read all 16gb, when i open task manager it say that i have 8.1 of that hardware reserved and 7.9 avaiable. i tryed setting the same ram frequency in bios, i tried removing max memory cap from msconfig>boot options>advanced>max memory, i tried running mdsched.exe to use the Windows memory diagnostics program but nothing, i have a gigabyte motherboard b450 aorus m with a ryzen 5 2600. thx in advance
  4. Not sure where to start I guess with my rig CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 GPU: GTX 1060 3gb RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16gb (2x8) Motherboard: a320m s2h v2 not sure what else is needed above anyway I have flashed my bios to the latest version I did the boot memory rubbish activated xmp i have two slots only but windows registers them as slot 2 and 4 which is the right channels but again still hardware resevred. updated windows took out the cmos battery and waited I really don't know what else to try i mean my pc recognises theres 2 sticks and it even went up by hardware reserve before it was 8gb now its 8.1 I really need help I have listed some screenshots below please help me fix this !
  5. Specs: OS: Server 2019 Motherboard: gigabyte ga-970a-ds3p CPU: AMD 8350fx 8 core Ram: 32G Patriot 4x 8g ddr 1600mhz GPU: Firepro V3900 (cheap card-no onboard graphics) Storage: 5x 4tb drives. 1x WD ssd Intel 4 port 1g LAN PCI card Hyper V: 3 vm's (server 2019, linux, pfsense) PSU: Brand new corsair 750W ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I feel like I have tried everything to get rid of the hardware reserved: 1. Pulled all sticks of ram. Put in 1 by 1. Each is recognizable. As soon as I put in the third stick, it'll only allow 16g (rest is reserved). 2. msconfig - unchecked maximum memory 3. no option in bios for XMP 4. updated bios (successful) 5. regedit- system-currentcontrolset-control-session manager-memory management- set clearpagefileatshutdown to 1 from 0 6. played with page file sizes all the way up to 32g maximum--including making a virtual drive and putting in on there from the c drive. Also tried "system managed size." 7. Removed GPU 8. Reset all dimms including changing order they're in 9. Tried each slow with one one stick in I'm at a loss. I really hope someone can help me on this before I lose my mind. Probably something super simple--just can't find the treasure.
  6. So i just bought a bunch of new computer parts including ram, motherboard and a cpu, as well as i installed a fresh windows 10 pro. But when i checked my ram it was 8 out of 16gb, the other 8 being "hardware reserved". Now i don't know what causes this but i switched around with my sticks and eventually got 16gbs for a limited time, then it returned to 8gb later on. i reinstalled windows yet again, same result. I tried switching up the sticks yet again, trying different amount of sticks(i have 4x4gb) i eventually managed to get 8gb with 2 sticks, no hardware reserved which i found strange. All the sticks are the same so it shouldn't be an ordering problem, yet somehow it seems to be(?) My brother mentioned it could be a support problem, but i'm not sure. specs: OS: windows 10 pro Md: Gigabyte ab350-gaming3 Memory: 16gb ddr4 2666 udimm 1.2v kit ballistix crucial Graphics: msi Radeon rx480 gaming x 8gb cpu: amd ryzen 5 1500x Ps: if there is anything else u need to know feel free to message me, thanks in advance.
  7. Hello, I've been struggeling with a issue for a while, which is that one off my ram sticks (both 4GB and the exact same model) is "hardware reserved (4.5GB)" and is not even detected in my bios. Which has a massive impact on my preformance not only do i have only 3.5GB usable ram but I'm also using a APU at the moment which for the people that may not know uses your ram as vram. (I have ordered a GPU rx470 on black friday but its still being shipped). I fixed this problem a while back by removing the ram stick that wasnt working and adding a functioning ram stick from my brother booting the pc then shutting it off and removing the one from my brother and adding the ram stick that wasnt working again which appeared to have fixed it (7GB usable 1GB hardware reserved and also 8GB detected in bios ). But it has returned to 3.5GB usable again and 4.5GB hardware reserved and only 4GB detected in bios. DxDiag.txt
  8. In short, the issue with my PC is that inside of Resource Monitor the hardware reserved for the RAM is half when 16GB is installed. After testing RAM and finding the PC wouldn't boot if RAM sticks were in slot 1 and/or 3 (without anything in 2 and/or 4) I concluded it was a MOBO issue and brought a new one. However, the issue persisted. However, no matter what Windows says, the bios always recognises all RAM installed at correct frequency and voltage. If there is RAM in slots 2 and/or 4, the bios will recognise any ram in slots 1 and 3. We've tried Unchecked maximum memory All RAM sticks have been tested and do work Cleared CMOS and updating BIOS Bought new MOBO and RAM Ran windows memory test and it found no issues Checked all RAM is running at the correct speed Checked CPU for bent pin and socket for any debris and found nothing Reinstalled Windows Other issues found XMP works sometimes, seems to be no correlation with RAM sticks One set of original RAM wouldn't rank in dual channel in CPU-Z All RAM is the same model but has different version numbers For reference, this is what I mean when I say 1 and 3, as these are the slots names from the MOBO manual. After scouring the internet for a possible solution, I have run out of ideas so any help would be greatly appreciated. Build CPU: AMD FX 6300 OLD MOBO: Gigabyte GA-970a-UD3P NEW MOBO: Gigabyte Ga-990X-GamingSLI RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 4x4GB (With an extra 2x4GB for testing) Heatsink: Cooler Master EVO 212 GPU: Sapphire R9 270X 4GB PSU: EVGA 600B Drive: Seagate 2TB SSHD
  9. Before going on, here are the relevant components: MSI 970 Gaming AMD FX-6300 4 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2133MHz Windows 10 64-bit When I first built the computer, I had 2 4GB sticks of Corsair Vengeance Pro 2133MHz but in task manager, it was detecting the full 8GB but saying that 4 of them were "hardware reserved". I tried many methods to fix this including going into ms-config and unchecking the "maximum memory" box, updating the bios, and rearranging the sticks. Unfortunately none of these worked and i was convinced that one of the sticks in the kit was bad so I bit the bullet and bought another kit of the same RAM (I was planning on upgrading to 16GB down the line anyway so it wasn't a big deal). After getting it all hooked up, my task manager now says that I have 16GB of RAM but 8.1GB hardware reserved (thus 7.9GB usable). I downloaded CPU-Z to see what it said about the RAM and it detected all 16GB of RAM but in the box labeled "Channels #" it says "Single" (remember there are 4 sticks of ram in the motherboard filling all of the slots). At this point I am at a complete loss as it seems nothing I do will give me back the 8.1GB of RAM being "hardware reserved". Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  10. for the last 3 months I have been going through every forum and answer I can to solve this issue. I have 32gb ram in 4 ddr4 8gb dims, my bios can see all 32gb but only at 2400Mhz and windows reads 15.9gb total ram in task mannager and 16.1gb is hardware reserved. I have reseated the cpu, checked for missing/dammaged pins, cleaned the ram and cpu ports, checking all the windows settings and reg editor. I have even booted into windows go and linux with the same ram restirctions. this innitially happened when I had to send back my old 2700x and get another one, a couple days after I installed the new cpu I noticed this ram issue, could this be a motherbord issue that I could diagnose some how?
  11. TL;DR: physical DIMM is causing 'hardware reserved' issues, with the DIMM itself being 4GB and causing a 6GB reservation (50%) when slotted combined with 3 other DIMMs. Booting with that particular DIMM (solo) is unsuccessfull, but it is detected when slotted combined with the other 3 DIMMs. Windows Memory Diagnostic tool does not report any issues on any of the DIMMs. Futhermore, a re-occurring (related?) issue with non-paged pool ammount can take up to 75% of the available RAM, but does not always occur. Advice requested on next diagnostic steps. Dear reader, I have had the following problems for quite some time now, yet never had the time and energy to really solve it. One of the DIMMs is causing a 50% hardware reserved RAM problem, when taken out it is solved. However, a second problem of large non-paged pool memory can take up to 75% of the available RAM sometimes. They are probably related, yet the second issue still occurs without 'faulty' DIMM from the first issue. I would like understand the cause behind the first issue, and advice on how to solve the second issue. System and Background This is my old system, has run with W10 before. Is has been through many hardware changes, but always stable in its current configuration (excluding videocard, but I'm not supsecting that aspect to be the cause). Phenom II X4 965 BE (stock) MSI 970 gaming 2x2GB GEIL DDR3-1300 2x4GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 The memory kits have been matched on voltages and timings, and I have never had any issues using these two kits together before (has been used for ±20 months with aforementioned configuration). It is a clean install of W10 Pro (1803) on a brand new HDD (previous one failed), and is primarely used as a multimedia machine and webbrowsing. Issue #1: DIMM causing 50% hardware reserved RAM For quite a while this system is/was having a large RAM hardware reserved buffer, a total of 6GB reserved (50% of total). Initial moment of this problem starting is unknown. After some basic research and tests (Memory Diagnostic tool, checking processes etc.) I started playing around with the physical DIMMs themselves. With all 4 DIMMs in use, 6 out of 12GB is reserved. After testing all possible configurations of DIMMs (single, dual, triple, quad) in different DIMM slots (1-4), I found that one of the Ballistic DIMMs appeared to not work solo (no windows boot). Using it together with any of the other DIMMs, it caused a 50% RAM reservation (no matter the total slotted capacity). But when excluded from any other configuration possbile (2;2x2;4;4x2;2x4;2x4x2 etc.) only ±40MB is reserved. BOOT Advanced options > Maximum memory is (and was) off. Meaning that I am currently using a DIMM configuration of 2x4x2, in DIMM 1-3, for a total of 8GB. In this case, removing a DIMM actually gives me more usable RAM.... > This issue has been 'solved', but not quite understood how a 4GB stick can cause up to 6GB of hardware reserved RAM. I would like to know if I can somehow test if the particular DIMM is actually faulty/broken, even though it is detected (and accepted?) by Windows. Issue #2: non-paged pool memory leak (?) After taking out the 'faulty' DIMM from issue #1, I still noticed a suspected memory leak. RAM usage of processes in Task Manager and Resource Monitor did not add up to the reported total usage in both the Performance tab of Task Manager and CoreTemp RAM usage. I ran RAMMap, which drew my attention to a massive 4GB+ in non-paged pool memory (something I didn't pay attention to in Task Manager). It has even reached 6GB (75% of total RAM). I can literally see it accumulate from after the first seconds after booting to desktop. For example, last time it started at ±100MB and stopped at ±440MB. I don't know if this number is normal though. It appears that it does not always occur and/or continue accumulating linearly plotted against time passed, sometimes the non-paged pool memory stays at ±440MB. This issue also occurred during the initial 4-DIMM configuration from issue #1, but I thought it was related to the reserved RAM and therefore did not look at it more deeply. > My next step is to try and identify the leak with Poolmon, followed up with Kernal Debugger. I have, however, no experience using these tools, and it seems these are mostly used in server scenarios. I was wondering if someone with more Memory-related experiences has some input on my observations and the next steps I'll be undertaking. I have read through some articles, one of which is http://woshub.com/huge-memory-usage-non-paged-pool-windows/. I will also try the network adapter driver tips, but again, these tips seem most applicable for server scenarios. Thanks in advance. Cheers, JB
  12. Hi guys, I have this configuration MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX Ryzen 5 2600 G. SKILL Ripjaws V 2400 2x4gb G. SKILL Ripjaws V 2400 2x4gb (Bought from 2016) My problem is the memory are being recognized but when I look at the BIOS it tells me that 8192MB of the ram installed is usable. I have tried setting the speed to 2133mhz and CL to 17 and still not working. Also did the msconfig thing and page file(btw it crashed my OS in a case that I needed to reinstall my OS), and also my memory have the same model number
  13. As the title says.. I've tried everything. I've reset my bios, I've updated my bios, unchecked maximum memory in msconfig. Moved the ram around into different slots. Nothing is working. 8GB of my ram is still hardware reserved. My bios does recognise that I have 16GB of ram installed and they're in the correct slots. The ram is the same speed, model and make. Here are some screenshots of the issue. I'm running Windows 10 x64 bit.All help is appreciated.
  14. Windows 10, 64 bit https://pcpartpicker.com/b/YGNQzy This spec sheet is mine (If it isn't accessible let me know, it's awaiting moderator approval.) I'm currently having 3 problems; 2 concurrent and persistent, and one that comes only if I fix one of the first 2. 1. Windows shows 16.1Gb of 32Gb of RAM is Hardware Reserved. I KNOW this to be an error on Window's part, and I cannot get it to work right. It runs at least, but it's irritating that I paid ~$300 USD for half functional RAM sticks 2. My memory, even with XMP enabled, does NOT reach the factory rated 3000Mhz. I've tried looking around my BIOS (UEFI*), but it has no appilicable settings I can change. I tried Ryzen Master and lo-and-behold, the DRAM modules hit 3000Mhz or more! (Was slightly higher than I was targeting)....buut....enter problem 3: 3. When running at correct speed, timings, and voltages, my BIOS doesn't see my only bootable device, my M.2 SSD. Meaning, I cannot boot to windows. I saved and restarted my PC from the BIOS and I booted to windows, showing the drive then was detected....but my memory profile was back to "stock" speeds of 2133Mhz....and problem 1 was also still persisting. Anyone have any ideas? (I do need to reflash my bios after having changed CMOS batteries; the original I had was a dud and reset the CMOS every single time I booted. Though even the latest BIOS, F3, for this board, doesn't fix either problems 1 or 2.) -- Edit: And I know someone is going to say "Boot from windows CD or USB" I can't. I have not Windows install USB, the one I ordered was dead. And I don't have an optical drive, it wouldn't fit with my cooler.
  15. Hi I bought new ram and added it to memory slot (new ram's brand is different than the other ram already installed and they both have same size of 8GB) so I went to repair it twice (for simple task of putting the rams to their slots) and every time it gets fixed and there task manager shows my installed memory correctly 16GB but everytime I get home again memory installed is 8GB and hardware reserve memory is 8GB and on the boot the motherboard buzzes and the ram led turns on then they stop buzzing and light goes off and it boots with 8GB ram. what's the problem?
  16. Good afternoon! Sorry for yet another thread asking for help, but so far 3 hours in and i cant find a solution... Sadly my Motherboard died without a reason, since we are all very short on cash i bought the cheapest motherboard i could find, but after getting everything together i cant get the system to use the entire 16 gb of ram.... I've allready tried: MSCONFIG - Untick the "Max Ram on startup" REGEDIT - Memory Management to 1 Swap between slots Boot with 1 stick separately and on all slots Run "Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool" with 0 errors or problems Looked for any possible setting in the bios regarding memory sharing with graphics At the back of my head is the feeling since this mobo is super basic maybe i need to manually set the timers or something like that to make it use all the 16 gb... Here is my full system specs and ill attach some screenshots for you, thank you very very much! 17. Need some help! My PC is showing this memory, 24GB is reserved for Hardware. I Tried everything 1/3,2/4 placement of memory slots, Adjusting the voltage, followed many of the youtube tutorials to the resolution but Nothing could help me out! Can someone please help me through this! My Conf: Gigabyte AB350M-Gaming 3 Motherboard, Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Chipset, 2x8GB (Aarvex) + 2x16GB (Adata) - Dual channel fitted - 2400MHz.
  18. I built this system more than about 3 years ago, I think? For schoolwork and REALLY light 1080p gaming Specs: CPU - AMD A10-7700k 4 cores, 4 threads GPU - AMD Radeon R7 200 series, 1Gb RAM - Kingston Hyper X 8Gb 1600mhz (2x) Moba - MSI A78M-E35 OS - windows 10 It was pretty good for what it was made for. (browsing and some schoolwork). For about a month now I realized my computer was slowing down and finally got a message from some apps that my system was running low at Virtual memory. It got me thinking I removed virtual memory and some more stuff (hibernate file) when I freshly upgraded to windows 10 like 2 years ago, but why would I need virtual memory? When I have 16Gb of RAM which is more than enough, then I checked my RAM I only have 6.9Gb in use and available and 9.1Gb is in hardware reserved. So I tried lots of troubleshooting like windows memory diagnostic and that system configuration advance boot setup, (my Ram timing were right too) none of them worked to remove the colossal Hardware reserved.... I finally got down'n'dirty and opened my desktop and started switching some RAM's in and out slot 1 and slot 2 with just 1 individual RAM.... as a result all of them works perfectly fine (RAM and slots) if I put one RAM to one slot it would show up that it has 6.9Gb in use and 1.1Gb in Hardware reserved, Its the same vice versa with either RAM and slot. But when I put them back together, I go back all the way to step one and have 6.9Gb in use and available but 9.1Gb is in Hardware reserved. I Give up..... unless.. tl;dr - My desktop is trolling me... what else can I do?

  20. Hey all, I have a problem with my rig. I built it around December 2017 and up until last week it's been running well. I could play games and use Photoshop and Lightroom with no problem at all. But I just found out that of my 8GB of usable RAM, Windows is "Hardware reserving" 4.1GB of it. This happened out of nowhere! I first noticed my problem when I opened up Photoshop to edit some pics I took on vacation. As I was about to use the Spot healing tool, a notification popped up saying "Can't use spot healing tool, not enough RAM". The only tweaks I've done with my system was OC the cpu to 3.9Ghz in the first week I had it running and it's been stable ever since. I know I tried using XMP on my ram to get it to 2666 but I couldn't feel that much of a difference so I reverted them back to the stock 2133, again this was all within the first week of the build being up and running. I've looked around forums and videos and here are the following things I've tried. 1.) Updated MOBO bios to latest 2.) Go into cmd, ran msconfig, went to boot and made sure the box where it says "maximize memory" was NOT checked. 3.) Changed my RAM slots from 2/4 to 1/3. (My MOBO actually recognized that the slots I used are not optimal and recommended I placed them back to the original 2/4 slot configuration.) A weird anomaly is that my CAM software actually detects my 8GB of ram and shows that my system is using it. Sometimes the meter goes upto 7.xx GB of RAM used when I'm on Chrome and playing a movie. But in Windows task manager it only shows 4GB of usuable RAM. The other 4 is pegged as "Hardware Reserved". I have yet to isolate my ram and test them individually. I plan to use memtest and give an update when I do. For now though any suggestions or info you guys might have or want is appreciated. I'll update this thread soon. The specs: CPU: Ryzen 1200 MOBO: Msi arctic mortar RAM: 2 sticks of 4GB by Team Group at 2133mhz stock GPU: Galax 1050ti exoc white Cooler: Cryorig 7 LED PSU : Seasonic 400 watt Windows 10 64 UPDATE: I noticed that my Bitdefender (I got the free key from one of Linus' videos) was using around 4.5GB of RAM. I uninstalled it in hopes that would solve the problem, but no dice. I have also tried OC my RAM to 2400mhz but no change. I'm close to calling it and just buying some newer RAM.
  21. Hello I have 2x(2x8GB) RAM modules installed in my MSI B350 TOMAHAWK with a Ryzen 5 1600 running Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit. first thing I noticed was Windows showing 16GB usable, then I see 16GB Hardware Reserved. (This means windows can see that there is 32GB total installed, wich is confirmed by CPU-Z showing 32768MBytes). So I check my BIOS to confirm that there is 4x8GB installed, and yes it shows 4 DIMMs in use with 8GB in each. But where it shows total memory it says 16GB(16384MBytes). This is what I dont get, why can the motherboard recognise all 4 DIMMs but not accept 32GB of RAM They are all the same serial number Here are som pics
  22. Hello. I'm having trouble with my system - whereby only half of my system RAM is actually usable. The other half (4GB), according to resource monitor is 'hardware reserved'. I've done everything I could possible do to try and fix this and I've gone through every trouble-shooting method I could think of and find online. Briefly, I'll explain what I've done so far. - Full reinstall of windows- Updating Bios to latest version- Reset the memory- Tried each stick individually in both of the slots individually (to see if the sticks and or the board itself was physically faulty, which it doesn't seem to be, since both sticks worked just fine in both slots)- Tried another stick of DDR4 I have lying around, - Tried pairing one of the hyperX sticks with the other stick I had lying around (which presented me with the same error)- Tried changing 'pagefileatshutdown' from 0 to 1 in registry- Ran the built in windows memory diagnostics test (to which no errors were found)- Double checked to see if my particular memory sticks were on the compatibility list (which they are) - Unchecked Maximum memory in the advanced boot options of msconfig. - Tried reseating the CPU. I'm utterly stumped. Both sticks are identified by both the Bios and windows itself. I'm not one to usually ask on forums for technical support - but I think in this case I do need the help. I bought this motherboard yesterday - and I don't think it's faulty necessarily but I'm beyond stumped. I'd appreciate any and all help on this matter. Thank's heaps for your time! Full system specs: * Ryzen 3 - 1200 * Gigabyte GA-AB350m-HD3 (Latest bios) * Kingston HyperX 4GB x2 (HX421C14FBK2) * GTX 1060 (Asus Turbo cooler) *Windows 10 64x
  23. Hello, Recently I purchased the MSI B350M Gaming Pro after my Asus B350 PC Mate died, Was luckily able to salvage all other components, But I soon noticed after Just Cause crashed that half of my 16GB of RAM was being hardware reserved, After a few months of frustration and googling I discovered that one of my RAM sticks was clocked at 2133Mhz and the other was clocked at, this being my theory as to why 8GB of RAM is locked, I bought the kit of 2 x 8GB 2400mHz together which is why this confuses me so much, I was wondering If there was a way to overclock one stick of RAM without affecting the other or maybe overclock both to a uniform frequency, but I don't have any overclocking knowledge, so I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions.
  24. My rig has 2 x 4GB of RAM. 4.1 GB is "Hardware reserved". I believe that that is reserved and actually needed for some hardware, but I'm not sure. My questions are: Should I get more RAM or can I fix this problem? If I should get more ram should I get two more sticks of the same and fill all the slots or get 2 x 8GB of something different. Running 64 bit Windows 10 Here's my full rig: Thanks for any help you can give me! -WizErd
  25. Hello guys, I'm here because I need help for my RAM problems... This has been going on for a while now, and I can't fix it? I have had a 4GB RAM stick which was working fine and then I started getting 95-100% usage on it when in reality I'm only using about 50% So I used my 16GB of Corsair ram (2x8GB) to do a quick fix with a lot of ram and now it's being hardware reserved by my windows (it wasn't before, but then I reinstalled Win7 and it has continues with Win10) Stuff isn't adding up at all just look at these pictures: Is it a program or a virus that is eating all that ram? Also, how can I stop it from being hardware reserved?
