Ok so 4 days ago my pc froze and crashed with a BSoD: Clock_Watchdog_Timeout and it kept getting stuck at bootup on the windows screen with spinning circles. So after some troubleshooting i figured it was my data HDD (Disk S) so i unplugged it and windows booted normally. I checked all the sata ports and all of them give me the same problem, so now if i ever plug it back in before bootup, Win 10 is stuck on the same screen as before. Is there a way of solving this problem? Components CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia 1660 super RAM: 2 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2400 MHz MB: ASRock AB350 Gaming K4 (BIOS version P2.50 released 04/20/2017) Power Supply: BeQuiet Pure Power 10 500W SSD: 250 GB Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe HHD: 2 TB Western Digital (The HDD that gives me problems) No components have ever been overclocked, the system is 3 y/o and i built it myself.

Recently I have used my 5TB external HDD to re-install Windows on a laptop I am selling. I created a separate partition to boot the windows installation on the laptop, well I screwed up by ignoring the warnings thinking it will only "wipe" the boot partition and now my data from partitions I was using is "unallocated". This disk had 2 partitions (except the boot one), main one with most of the disk size and a BitLocker password encrypted one of about a 100GB. Main partition was filled with ~2.5TB of data and a BitLocker partition was filled up with ~50GB of data. I have the recovery key for the BitLocker drive. Now when I open the disk management tool in Windows it shows it like this: "New volume" is completely empty and I assume the "Unallocated" space is where my data is, and I need to recover it, also when I right click on the unallocated space the options to create a new simple volume are greyed out. How would I be able to recover the data and especially how can I recover the encrypted BitLocker partition properly? What software could I use (highly preferably free, or max up to 50€) that would be able to recover the data and divide it into its original partition properly?

So my girlfriend has a hp gaming laptop with a 1650 and a 250 gb ssd (not enough storage) aight so in the laptop on the motherboard theres a slot for an HDD. Im aware she needs a 2.5 HDD and not a 3.5. The drive would be used gaming only really. games like gta destiny modern warfare. Ive been looking into seagate barracuda 2.5 5400 rpm 1tb or 2tb and wd blue 2.5 5400 rpm 1tb or 2tb. Ive heard from some places 5400 rpm is not enough and its very slow that it would cause stuttering. Is this true or is it safe to get her a 5400 rpm for playing graphic intensive games. I havent been able to find any 2.5 7200 rpm hard drives. Apologies if this has been posted before.

Hi, I have been facing an annoying issue for over a long time. I have two internal SATA HDD and one NVME m.2 SSD in my PC. SATA Drives are 1 Seagate 3TB HDD in GPT partition to two drives and 1 Western Digital 1TB HDD in MBR partition. The NVME m.2 SSD is a 240GB in MBR partition. The windows 10 x64 is installed and running on the NVME m.2 SSD and is used only as the C:/ Drive. And I use the SATA drives as the secondary storage drives for my media files. The SSD and HDD health are perfect according to the HD Sentinel software test. The issue: During the time when the PC is running, while the secondary SATA drives are running smoothly, suddenly the SATA drives disconnect from the PC and instantly reconnect again. You can say it looks like as we connect and disconnect the external hard drives. This process is repeated at a random interval while running the PC. I tried to change the SATA cables and cleaning the connectors of the SATA cables and also cleaned the Hard Drives as well. But still the issue persists and repeated again and again and again. I have no idea how to fix this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards.

Does different hard disk brand (HGST not included) make a difference in reliability? Which one to get under 1, 2 & 3tb options? Thanks:)

When i connected my friends Hard disk to my computer externally, it doesn't showing anywhere in my PC, which includes Windows Explorer, Disk management and diskpart too, but the hard disk is showing in Device manager as " Mass Storage Device" and in "Devices and Printers" area in Control Panel. The Reason why i connected Externally is to check whether the hard disk is working properly or not. Before that, the hard disk was connected via SATA in my friend's desktop PC, we try to install windows 10, but the pc stuck at boot showing " ASUS Logo" at start, any of the Keys are not working includes Del key, F8, F10, F2 none of it. But when i remove the hard disk from SATA connector (remove hard disk completely), the bios keys and other boot menus key, literally all the keys works, but when i connect the hard disk, none of them works. THAT'S WHY I CONNECTED IT TO MY PC EXTERNALLY to check whetherthe hard disk working or not, but turn out, hard disk isn't showing in my windows either. SO guys kindly Help me, figure it out...:-) Thanks in advance

Hello everybody, so this problem happened about a week ago and laid my hands off my PC so I won't damage something. Then my SSD showed out of nowhere in Tuesday this week and I thought the problem was solved, but it was not. I plugged out my SSD and tried blowing the M.2 slot on my MB Because I thought dust made it's way into the socket but it did not. Then I tried it with a blow hair drier and that did not work as well. I would appreciate some help and thank You in forward!

So to start off with, i am feeling absolutely idiotic for doing this bought a brand new 1 TB hard-drive and cloned all my data from my old HDD to it as i was worried the old one was going to fail any moment now. Must have been something that happened when i was trying to fit or adjust the power connector, but i noticed that the SATA power port on the hard drive was giving off some shine. When i checked it with a flash light, i was horrified to see a part of the SATA power connector was broken ... like it was chipped off ! To describe in more detail, the 'elbow' of the SATA port, which stands upright, is gone along with a small part of the horizontal portion as well . I have circled the broken part with green color in the following image; Please note that this is not my hard drive, this is taken from the internet. However, it perfectly describes what i am facing right now should i be worried about the drive ? is there any danger, especially of something shorting out ? any possible electrical/electronic damage the the HDD ? I freak out when there's danger of any device failure or loss of data, so please educate me on what i should do in this situation, as all my data is on the drive right now. P.S : i realized that i feel so idiotic for not taking a picture of the broken port. Now i am too scared to fiddle with the port again, so as not to break anything further.

Today I built my computer and the hard drive I used was refurbished. After installing windows I noticed my pc was very slow and I couldn't install apps. After running a test with WD tool it showed the error in the pic I attached. The weird thing is chkdsk doesn't detect any errors or bad sectors and the smart status says pass on wd tool but it can't complete a quick test without displaying said error. I am afraid its a problem with the motherboard not the HDD

Hello, I want to put in a HDD (2.5") into my Lenovo laptop and the laptop came with a cable and 4 screws to allow me to do so. But the problem I have is that the pictures of the HDD online that I am looking to buy all have a 4 pin socket next to the SATA connector. This means that the drive would need power (1.2 W for the model I'm interested in) and I don't have a dedicated cable for this. Also I don't understand how power delivery works inside a laptop. So does this mean I can only install a SSD drive?

My laptop hard disk shows increasing bad sectors. Specifications: Laptop: Compaq 15 Notebook PC (J8B65PA#ACJ) Hard Disk: HGST HTS545050A7 (500GB) OS: Ubuntu 16.04 64bit I use the disks program in Ubuntu to see bad sectors in my disk. I recorded the number of bad sectors: 589896 bad sectors : Wed May 17 22:33:05 IST 2017 655440 bad sectors : Wed May 24 21:38:26 IST 2017 983160 bad sectors : Thu Jul 13 22:28:08 IST 2017 Is this a reason for worry? The smart analysis tool shows "Threshold not exceeded" and "Disk is OK, 983160 bad sectors".

Hello Folks, I recently plugged in my not so old WD hard disk into my desktop internally. The hard disk is a 1TB and is showing completely fine in BIOS and Device Manager, but when i come to My Computer the partitions are not shown. I have tried Disk Management but no luck. I used many other software but i don't find the partitions. I really hope my data is still inside as physically the platter is running fine. No heating issues etc. Its showing in BIOS and even in Device Management along with all the profiles but is unable to populate Volume Information. Kindly Help Me!!!

hello all, this is my first time asking question here on linustechtips :) i have a question about hdd grinding noises... i have two hdds stacked together with a usb non power hub connected to my macbook when i copy files between them, those two hdds will make HUGE grinding noises and will copy slowly. but then it will stop copying and disconnect a while later.. if i take out one hdd from it, it wont make any grinding noises and work well like nothing ever happened... i bought the usb hub because i needed more ports for work(you know macbook has only two usb ports haha) my first guess is limited current making hdds spin slower therefore heads crashing to the disk... and then eventually fail? im so dumb why did i do this....i shouldve just connected two hdds separately(and maybe all the other peripherals on one side).... im now worried about the hdd that might have been damaged by many MANY head crashes... im currently copying files that has been failed before to see if anything got damaged, .... nothing bad so far... should i be worried? thanks for any replies :)

Unexpected store exception bsod while gaming
Toheed posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I have already checked the health if my harddisk and ssd both are 100% and in good health. I tried reinstalling the windows by formating the C drive but still I got the same bsod. While playing the game freezes, only cursor moves . And after 10-15 the Bsod happens. It only happens while gaming mostly while Fortnite. Should I buy new ram sticks can they be the culprit? Or maybe the gpu? Specs: ryzen 2600 X470 ultra gaming Rx 580 sapphire 650w 80+ gold psu 8gb ddr4 2666mhz crucial ballistix sport 1tb hdd/ 256gb ssd sata -
Hello guys. I have an issue with my brand new nvme m.2 ssd from gigabyte (link to ssd). Due to lack of more than one m.2 slot on my asus b350-f gaming I had to use a pcie adapter for the ssd (link to adapter) which I put in the bottommost pcie slot which is an x4 gen 2.0 slot. Since I will be only using this ssd for a steam game library the actual pcie 2.0 bandwidth bottleneck with this ssd doesn't bother me since there is no gain in game load times past the speeds of SATA ssds. The problem I have are random spikes of 100% drive usage when copying game files from a 1tb 5400 hdd during which time the hard disk usage drops to near 0% (see picture) Disk 0 being the 5400rpm hdd and disk 4 being the nvme ssd. I have no idea if this is normal performance but in my opinion the nvme m.2 really shouldn't be hitting 100% usage when copying files from a 5400rpm drive to it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

So, this is my first personal build. I saved up for this for a few years. I bought a Ryzen 3 2200g and am going to use the Vega 8 until I can save up to buy a RX 580 which is going cheaper than a GTX 1650 here in India nowadays. I also bought Corsair Vengeance 8 GB @3000 MHz and a Kingston 240 GB SSD. What kind of power supply should I choose? I thought of going Cooler Master MWE 550 white since, I can't find the bronze rated one on Amazon, though I might be able to find out offline if I look for it. Should I go for a 1 TB Hard drive for my game library and movies too? Or just get another SSD in lower capacity? I'm planning to get any decent B450 board which can hold my APU for the time being and if I upgrade to a newer CPU down the road, I won't have to change it too. Which one should I choose? FYI, I might be requiring 4 DIMM slots. Any decent black cabinet with one intake and one outtake fan and a tempered glass panel should do the trick. Any suggestions? Please help me out with further tips if you can. Appreciate it.
