Hey guys, I'm new here but I've been using computers for 25 years. I've just finished building a new PC and ran into some issues: 1) The biggest issue: I transferred some SSD and HDD from my old PC to the new one. The SSDs shows up fine. But a 4TB HDD that I was using as backup is not showing in windows explorer. It shows up on bios, shows up on disk manager, device manager and easeus partition master, but it shows as unallocated space. Partition Master can even show all the folders so I know the data is there. I looked up on google, but the solutions I found didn't work (assigning a letter, uninstalling the device, updating drivers). I don't have another large HDD at the moment, so I can't clone it (it's almost full). 2) The windows time can't sync up to the time server. I tried changing to a different server but it still ends in error. I had to manually set the time. This is an issue that I also had on my old computer and just never fixed it. 3) The fans that came with the case doesn't change the LEDs with the motherboard software (MSI mystic light). My PC specs: Ryzen 7800x3d RTX 4070ti MSI Carbon X670e 2 x 32GB DDR5 6.000 (kingston) 1 nvme gen 4, 2TB (corsair) 2 SSDs, 2TB (western digital) 1 HDD 4TB (western digital) PSU: superflower 1.000w Case: Thermaltake View 51 Windows 11 (fresh installed on the nvme)

TL;DR I have an HDD that is unreliable, and I want to remove 90% of the files, Don't know if I need to update drivers or find some application to assist me. I recently brought my PC into a place to get some hardware added (just swapped some ports and added a wifi card). While it was in the technician says there was some issues with the drives (both the ssd and hdds) and after a few visits and troubleshoots he concluded the only 'failing drive' was actually my ssd, so I got a new ssd and got a clean install of windows on it but kept both of my hard drives so I could pull files from them and then clear them of larger files. The story starts when I plug it in at home and one of drives (probably the 4TB) kept humming louder than I've ever heard it as I went for a first boot. My system now boots to windows but through out use it vibrates [loud enough to give migraines, putting a book on it helps :} ]. At this current juncture I'm trying to pull the very few files I need off of my 4TB drive and then 'remove' all of the old files. (nothing is sensitive so I don't need to rewrite anything, a lot of it is larger game files) The problem is that whenever I try to read or write ANYTHING its pretty slow and the vibrations kick up even more. Also occasionally the drive won't read in windows explorer (it will show up but have no bar below it showing size) or in-between boots wont show up at all in windows explorer. (and then when I go to disk management to see what the issue is it says incorrect function). And ver rarely a windows pop up will talk to me about an IO error. What I truly need help with is getting a few of my files off this drive and more importantly deleting my larger folders such as 'games' which had my game library for steam/battlenet/etc do I need to reinstall drivers for the HDD? Is there some external tool that can help me delete files better than using windows 10 file explorer?

Do you have any information on a Sandisk Professional? Do you recommend any other brand? Where would I find a reasonable Nas, or 12t+ external storage

So today I encountered a problem with my PC, I decided to turn it on and I noticed that one of my drives were missing. I checked File Explorer, Disk Management, Device Manager, I don't see my drive at all. Weirdly enough, when I try to look at my BIOS, I see the drive is there and detected. Same as Intel Rapid Storage Technology app, it detected the drive. It's an old Seagate 500GB drive with quite a lot of important stuff and I haven't backed it up in a while. I've tried swapping SATA cables & ports and it's still not detected by Windows. The other 2 drives that I got are perfectly fine so I'm not sure what's wrong. Yesterday was fine too, I was able to use my PC normally and I didn't hear anything bad coming from the drive. It did make a few clicks when I boot it up so maybe it's dying? Anyone can help figuring this out? Thanks!

Hello. I just want to ask how severe this problem was because I wasn't aware of it until a random video in TikTok told me to check my disk health with this program called Hard Disk Sentinel. I'm so fucking surprised that my hard disk health is at 9%, and I have a lot of data here. Any tips or suggestions?

I am currently re-downloading csgo on my hard drive and realized it says I'm downloading at 13-20MB/s, I know this could be because of the steam but I believe it's not, since it said I had a peak of 72MB/s for some reason and usually I download games at 54-57MB/s. Could my hard drive be a bottleneck maybe? edit : I have a 7200 rpm drive.

Hello. Today I tried to move my old HDD into my PC, as I ran out of space on my SSD. I put it in my PC, plugged in the SATA cable and the power cable and now, when I turn it on, it stays on for 1 second, then turns back off, then back on and does this again and again and I have to switch off the power supply for it to stop. I tried removing the cables from the HDD and the sata cable from the mobo, but it does the same thing. What should I do now? Sometimes it turns on and stays like that, but it doesn't send signal to my monitor and I have to switch off the psu again. Btw, it's a Seasonic S12-ii 620W and I have it since last year, so I don't think it's that (and I hope it's not)

Hey guys I just bought this 3TB WD HDD. I ran a Crystaldisk Info and this are the results. Should I be worried about it? The other weird thing is that the rotation rate is not showing up. Thanks!

I have been having an issue where my hard disk suddenly starts to lag really bad, and whenever I check my task manager I see that the avg response time is fluctuating. I am not sure what the problem is at all. I have tried multiple solutions to anything related to response time and failed. Any help at all is deeply appreciated.

Hi Guys, I've recently purchased a coolermaster TD500 mesh that comes with 3 front ARGB fans. I've also separately purchased 4 x MF120 Halo white ARGB fans. Motherboard is MSI B450M Mortar Max CPU: Ryzen 2600 stock cooler PSU: Superflower Leadex iii gold 650W ARGB White With the above setup what do i need or how to connect everything(7 fans) for ARGB? The PC Case includes a hub for only the front 3 ARGB fans and the above MF120 Halo white fans doesn't come with a hub. On the side note is it possible to "mount" a 3rd 3.5" HDD in this case? Hope the above information is enough for an answer. Thanks in advance.

I have the HDD detected in my BIOS settings and the size and model are correct and all is well, at least there. I have Windows10-Ubuntu19.x dual boot on my computer. Whenever I try to boot from the windows boot loader, it takes me to the repair/troubleshoot window, nothing there works. I choose the command line prompt and check for disks using diskpart to list volumes, it gives me an empty list. The hard disk is not detected by diskpart. I also tried to boot from Ubuntu's bootloader then I chose Ubuntu to boot into, then the computer froze on the purple screen even before the loading dots. I also burned an ISO Window on a USB stick to boot from it and wipe the HDD and install the windows from scratch, vut the windows installation wizard does not detect the hard disk and also gives me an empty list. My computer is Lenovo Ideapad 520. Hard disk model: Seagate st1000lm035 Thank you so much in advace.

I was informed by reddit that simply replacing the PCB with one from an identical drive won't work. Any ideas on how I can recover my data or am I better off just starting over. Hello everyone ! Since i got a problem with the hardware with my server i had to backup everything from my hard drives. But when i plugged one of the hard drive (the 4tb one) i got a messsage saying the the disk insnt initialised. And yes the partition table isnt recognized by anything else than the server and more strange, when i backuped everything directly from the server itself and rerwitten averything onto it. Now the disk is recognized normaly by every client on the network that i tested but not by the server this time. The disk is a western digital blue 4tb 5400rpm (yeah i know its slow but this server isnt meant to be really fast.)(and yes i know that i dont have any redondency). Is someone can help me that would be great i'm already late to get the server back online.

Hi Guys i really need your help. My hard disk went down last sunday and i have been forced to reinstall all my O/S and programs. My problem is i cannot share a drive over my network that was working perfectly before the crash it just keeps saying on the other computers that you dont have permission to access. I have set permissions to everyone in security and taken control of the drive as everyone. I have looked and followed many youtube videos including this one..... I just cannot get the drive to be accessable from another computer, i have tried accessing it from 2 laptops and a PC all windows 10 like is being run on the system which im trying to share the drive from. Please please can someone shed any light on my issue and how i can resolve it. Thanks.

I drew up an article a while back describing the internal components of a hard drive, tearing a WD Green down in the lab from new to the smallest components. On the HDDGURU site it's got about 10,000 views and is quite useful for anyone who wants to know more about how they work, so I thought I'd link to it here considering this forum section deals with hard drives. It may be useful as a sticky if you guys feel it's informative. http://www.southbit.co.za/inside-a-hard-drive/

Hello community. I am now trying to help fix my friend's laptop which is an asus one. He told me he had waited for 30 minutes for the start screen to start but unfortunately greeted with a friendly "Unmountable boot volume" message. Could this be the effect of a hard disk failure? or in any other case a software failure? I've tried to do a usb boot recovery, watch fixes on youtube and read tutorials on how to fix the exact thing and still black screen till the end. And since its windows 10 it supposed to go to advanced boot option a.k.a the place we troubleshoot i guess, but nope. Black black black screen.

Hey guys, So I was wondering. I am about to get a PSU for a retro PC that I have but I need a hard drive. It didn't come with one (for obvious reasons). Is there any good alternatives for a 3.5" IDE HDD? I don't want to waste money buying one that might die soon. Are SD to IDE adapters worth it (etc.)?

Hi For the last several days my laptop has been showing a 100% usage on the disk drive even on idle. I know that it might reach that state under heavy load, but considering the fact that it does so on idle is a bit worrying for me. I think it is a hard disk problem but am not sure. Any advice on this would be highly helpful. If needed, I will list down the specs for my device.

Hi, i'm facing problem with my hard drive and hope you guys can help me out. So,this 2TB toshiba HDD was unused for almost a year. But for a new desktop i'm planning to use it. Today i was checking if it was operational; At first it appeared in file explorer. But not opening or showing size. Then suddenly PC restarted and BSOD happened. Error Code was: driver power state failure. Then i switched the SATA ports and restarted. But it doesn't appeared in boot. All sata ports were enabled but this second HDD was not showing. At last, i tried Windows disk management and here it shows but not in proper way(picture given). Then i tried to initialize it but says volume not found. i tried to update the drivers with windows 10 default updater. it says all drivers are updated. i also removed the PCB and cleaned the connectors under it with alcohol pad for dust removal. (The HDD is spinning and making a periodical noise like beeping. And getting too hot compared with my 500GB HDD ) [ My 500 GB HDD was using IDE interface. In IDE the 2TB HDD wasn't showing either boot or disk management. Then i set the interface AHCI in boot option. Now the 2TB only showing in disk management ]
