So... Where to begin? My typical usage is generally playing a game ( WoW Classic, these days) with Discord open on another monitor. Pretty normal stuff. The issue comes when I will try to use discord (PTT) and I don't hear the mic open sound. So I look at Discord and it's frozen. PTT doesn't work, everything is at a standstill but my game is running normally with no hiccups and no internet loss or anything. After a few seconds, maybe 10, maybe 30, it will just "come back and catch up" and all the talking that happened while I was frozen will all play at once and Discord will go back to normal operation. After this started happening fairly frequently, I started trying to tab out and check a resource monitor to see what's going on. That's when I realized that Windows was also unresponsive. This wasn't isolated to Discord but Windows as a whole, with the odd exception of whatever game I am currently playing. This has also started to happen outside of games as well. I can't really re-create the issue either. It either happens, or it doesn't. I did the normal troubleshooting stuff. Updating drivers. Rolling back drivers. Keeping resource monitors open to catch it in the act, etc. Nothing seemed to really show what the issue is, until, a few days ago. That's when I had the same issue but it lasted a lot longer this time and I actually got a BSOD. The BSOD said it was a Memory Controller error. Now, this could be completely unrelated or it might not be, but I don't know enough about how Memory is accessed and used to know if the symptoms will fit into a Memory Issue narrative. I was always under the assumption that any Memory Issues would result in an immediate BSOD unless you're using ECC modules. I've never ran into an issue like this. Any help would be appreciated. I bought it a month ago (early May) and installed a couple of SSD's, the GPU and RAM by myself. For the first month, no problem. Runs well. Played games like Witcher 3 & Immortals Fenyx Rising with good performance (I'm a performance over graphics guy. Nintendo simp whatchu gonna do) while streaming on Twitch, edited videos pretty well and whatnot. However, a month in and a problem started occuring. I could be doing something heavy like gaming and recording on OBS, something light like watching YouTube or Netflix at 720P or less (Malaysian internet. Whatchu gonna do) or even using Microsoft word and suddenly my mouse would hang, there'd be a USB disconnect sound, the screen (or screens if I'm going dual monitor) would freeze, go blank for half a second and come back on, a reconnection sound comes back again and I can continue doing what I was doing. I've gone through everything to see what can be done. This is what I've gone through: **GPU** At first I thought it was a GPU problem since it's an old 2016 GPU (brother bought it in 2017). Got a professional cleaner to come over and clean it, got rid of GPU sag (via a squash ball can you believe it? I'm getting a small Mario figurine delivered to take over the job cause Mario is trustworthy), attached and detached it over and over again and tried to strengthen the PSU cable connection port (can't remember the name of it) with cable ties. The cleaner said the GPU, next to being slightly noisy, is fine and works pretty decently. **RAM** Originally I had 1 8GB PNY 2666MHZ ram and 1 4GB 2133MHZ ram from an unknown brand (again, given to me by the community). I got rid of the 4GB ram and got another 8GB PNY Ram. Nope, that's not the reason for the constant disconnection. **Monitor Cables** Constantly changed cables. Nope. Problem not from there. ​ **Power** Live in a condo, bought surge protectors, nope. Not the problem. So, tired from watching a Million YouTube videos, I'm here asking LTT to help me sus it out. I've used Open Hardware Monitor, Speccy, Benchmark programs, reinstalled drivers (which I suspect is the major problem but I can't find a way to get the 17.1 driver that everybody says is the most stable for this GPU since it's a Windows 8 driver. I'm on Windows 10) and everything else under the sun from someone who's not an IT person but can follow instructions (those computer classes parents sent us when we were kids came in handy). And yes, I'm aware I could send it back to the shop that built it for me, however, A) It's 3 states to the north where I am, which is an 8 hour drive. B) Malaysian entered full Covid lockdown today, literally. Even if I could get a delivery company to send it to the shop, they wouldn't be able to fix it for months on end. I need the computer soon as a new school term starts next week and I'll be online. Suggestions, folks?

A while ago, I experienced what I would call performance "hitching" or "hanging" when doing simple tasks on my computer, like browsing the web or streaming YouTube or playing a game. I decided to leave my performance up on my task manager to see what could be the cause and I found that during these hitches, my HDD usage would max with no data transfer happening (no read or write). So I decided to purchase a new hard drive, thinking the current one was just getting old (about 3 years). I made a post about this a while ago here. However, after purchasing a new hard drive, I noticed the same hitching problems still coming up. What else could be causing the problem? The processor or the motherboard? So I've had a problem with my custom built pc and i have found that whenever it is connected to the internet, even if nothing is open and it is just on the desk top, it locks up and freezes/ hangs, the fans still run and the led's in the case are also on. I had windows 10 and then installed windows 8 to see if it was a dodgy operating system. I brought another stick of ram and replaced it to see if it was the ram, i have removed the harddrive and installed windows on an ssd to see if it was that, i have also took the graphics card out and test integrated graphics to see if it was the GPU, this has been a problem ever since i have put together my PC, it freezes with ethernet or a usb wifi adapter. My specs: B150 msi ddr4 mother board DDR4 8gb and 4gb of ram GTX 960 4GB gpu i5 6400 processor 1tb hard drive 500 watt EVGA powersupply, dont know the specific type.

So I've recently upgraded from an fx-8350 to a ryzen 1700x, but ever since I've upgraded its been constantly getting video driver crashes along with Default Radeon Wattman settings have crashed and been restored and Windows Reliability monitor is giving me 141 errors. I've tried reinstalling windows and using rolled back video drivers back as far as 16.11.5 then the 390 just crashed and hung, I have an old amd 7850 so i swapped it in but instead of getting the wattman errors it just crashes. also another weird thing is I can't seem to get the ram to go above 1066 MHz I've tried 3 different ram sticks and they're all rated for 2133. Help, I dont know what happened on my computer but it hangs for 30 sec sometime while playing games and it even shows a bluescreen, I reverted my settings on my graphics card, I ran diagnostic for bluescreen and nothing worked. My Pc dont act like this, please feel free to ask question about the problems.

Hi, so Recently ive been having some problems with my computer Hanging on me (as title specifies) this started yesterday while playing xcom WOTC thinking that it was the game i closed it down and launched some other games to find that i was having the exact same problem there too, now this isnt something that usually happens to me as my pc is frankly over kill for the display i am using at the moment (GTX 1080, Intel I7 6700K, 16GB ram and 2 solid state drives one for os one for games i use quickly and finally a 3 TB drive that i use for other games and misc programs and files, with a 1080p display) after snooping around my processes and finding nothing i gave up and reinstalled windows hoping that this will fix said issue though it hasnt in the slightest though the only thing i have to go on is my C drive is @ 100% all the time that these hangs are happening, (to specify what i mean by hainging, mouse and some on screen apps work like windows resource monitor though MSI afterburner stops with everything else on the computer. If theres anything you want me to try or if theres any info youd like to get to help me solve this issue please ask away, ill try to do what i can. (if there is another post like this one im sorry but i cant look through the website easily at the moment due to said issue, this took me way too long to type out and i cant watch any videos.

For starters, I have a GTX 1060 and I'm getting low framerate in games like CS:GO, BF4, BF3, etc. Another problem is, my computer seems to hang quite frequently. It's such an inconsistent problem. For example, I play CS:GO regularly, 4/10 times, if I fire an AWP shot or if I do some other actions in the game, the computer just hangs. Sometimes, it'll restart itself after 5-10 seconds, other times, I have to manually power off my computer. It'll also randomly just restart itself, no hanging what-so-ever, just go black and restart as if I clicked restart myself. Just a note, I recently got this GTX 1060 around a week ago, thinking this would fix the problem, but it didn't at all. I did research and found out that my fans could be what's making my computer hang due to my CPU being overheated. So yes, my computer is SUPER dusty considering I haven't cleaned it in a year, so I bought some compressed air and cleaned the fans. Which fixed the problem for only about a day, then the hanging started again. I don't know why this happens at all. My computer when it hangs will do one of the 4 things: When it hangs, it just stays there until I have to force shutdownIt'll hang, but in 3-5 seconds it restarts itself.It'll just restart itself randomly with no hangingThis one is typically the most frightening, it'll hang, and my computer will make a loud beeping noise until I force shutdown the computer. For a little while now I've been having some general system instability, most programs such as chrome and even file explorer and task manager, games like overwatch, tf2, and most recently (and annoyingly) This War of Mine, have decided to hang (or freeze) for a few moments and if they feel that they don't want to keep going, will crash. Monitoring the system resources through task manager indicates that it's not a hardware bottleneck as nothing there has shown a spike in resources required to do a given task (meaning that during these freezes nothing suddenly demanded the systems resources) I've been trying to think of a reason for this, even going so far as to think there may be an issue at the hardware level (such as incompatible/unstable parts), but I'm leaning more to the side of a bad windows installation. Any thoughts of how to try to Should I just try a fresh reinstall of windows to try and fix this (as a last resort preferably)

Every time I boot up a game it will run for less than 2 minutes (sometimes less than 30 seconds) and the screen will freeze, I can still hear music and other sounds, and even shoot my gun if I manage to get into a game. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling with DDR, unplugging my second monitor, updating my bios, rolling back the drivers. Hello. Returning from a trip, I came to my computer and used it briefly before it suddenly hung (Sudden black screen, Buzzing noise). After attempting reboot, it continued to hang randomly, whether during log in or several minutes after boot up- but it always hangs, no matter what. It happens running any software; or running none at all- even in the middle of boot or right as I'm logging in. I can open bios and stay in as long as I like without crashing. Once running windows, however, the threat is back. I first reset the PC- first with the mode that keeps your personal files. When that didn't work; I reset it again but with the option that also deletes your personal files. This didn't work, but I tried again just to be sure, and it still didn't work (This was before downloading drivers). I have gotten into windows long enough to ensure all drivers are updated. I also used a separate computer and USB drive to update the bios. None of these fixed the issue. According to the bios system monitor no overheating is occurring. The CPU and motherboard both stay comfortably cool. Operating system- Windows 10 64 bit, Fully updated Processor- i5 6600k @3.2ghz with auto voltage Motherboard- MSI b150 gaming m3 Graphics- AMD XFX RX 480 (8gb) Ram- 16gb ripjaws @2133 with auto voltage Storage- Sandisk 480gb ssd Power supply- 800 watts, there has never been a power issue before The processor, motherboard and ram are all nearing 3 years old after heavy use. The Graphics card is just about 2 years old, and the storage about a year and a half. I would not be suprised if one of the older parts has finally died and needs replacing; but I have no clue which it could be. Thanks so much for reading and I appreciate any help or suggestions. So I'm looking to hang my pump/res combo from the top of my case (Lian Li Alpha 550W) where the fans would normally go. I've found a reservoir clamp (Singularity Ethereal Reservoir Mount) that will do the job, however it's super pricey ($41 for one). Do any of you know of any alternatives that don't cost as much as a radiator? Thanks for any help in advance.

Hello, Need an assistance ASAP. As I use AMD, the idle stays 38'c-40'c with Cooler Master 212X. With 3D Ps rendering or A.C Syndicate, temp goes up to 60'c with 212X. As it is a costly cooler, why can't I get a better result? Ambient room temp stays within 28'c-30'c. One thing really irked me. I was playing Syndicate. The game just froze. Nothing was working. Even, Ctrl+Alt+Del. Had to restart. Any suggestion? Setup: 8320 Stock Speed Cooler 212X (Two fans) Sapphire RX 460 4GB Corsair Vengeance 4x2 1600Mhz

Ok, so my mother's work desktop pc is freezing like 3 times a day, needing to be reset every time. It is an AMD athlon II X2 250, on an old Biostar N68S3, and it only has one stick of 1Gb of DDR3 1333Mhz RAM. It also has like a 320Gb or something HDD 7200RPM. The system is currently running windows 7 and the principal programs are google chrome with multiple tabs and a small business administration software. The freezing usually occurs while using chrome. I think the source of the hanging is the lack of RAM memory, which I'm planning to upgrade either ways (because the pc is very very slow), but I'm not really sure. Will I stop the system from freezing by just adding some ram sticks to the pc? Or should I do another thing to improve the system performance and preventing from freezing?

Hi there, I have been having some really weird issues with my new i7. Whenever I restart my computer it saves and gets right to the point where it should start back up and it just stops. Literally shows nothing on the screen and will sit at that point until I do a force shut down. I've updated my BIOS and also clean wiped to Windows 7 and also Windows 10. My i5 which I have swapped out in favor of this frustrating issue has no problem. Should I contact Intel or am I doing something wrong?

Hello all, After being stuck on build 10074 I've just did a fresh install as it was throwing me all sorts of errors - many of which seemed to be GPU related (BSOD: ERROR_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT alt+tabbing from games. BSOD: CRITICAL PROCESS ERROR at random points. Games crashing in very specific circumstances (anytime a building came into frame during battles in Shogun 2)) Now I'm on full W10 and I'm experiencing similar issues - but the GPU itself seems fine. Windows lag and hang when being manipulated/navigated through, windows being dragged around on the second screen lag significantly, and often Explorer crashes completely during use. I've completely uninstalled and re-installed my drivers several times over, and on the wishful thinking that a lot of these hangs might be RAM issues I've swapped out my RAM, to no avail. Monitoring GPU-Z VCDC current wildly swishes and swashes about from 3.8 - 5.3A, and VCDC jumps from V0.0803 to V0.0805 (I'd be lying if I said I knew a lot about what these figures meant, but hey I've noticed it ), and occasionally all stats reset to 0 and stay there except for fan speed and temperature. But the GPU itself appears to be alright, running Valley Benchmark I appear to be getting better performance than on previous builds (no idea why, maybe desktop manager isn't pulling resources?) I've run a chkdsk just in case, because I'm almost swinging in the dark here - and it jumped from 0-100% instantly, C: is on an SSD, but nothing special, cheap enough and running on SATA-3. No idea what's going on here lads, if anybody has any insight please let me know, otherwise I might have to splash out on a new GPU and I'd really rather not. Hey there! So a couple of months ago I installed a new corsair h80i into my system after my old h60 began to die(my case fell over in transit and messed it up). The install went fine, and the cooler works great, except for when I go to shut down, my computer freezes at the part were there's the spinning loop with the "shutting down" written. Once it freezes I just manually shut it off, and this counts as a proper shut down for the computer as there is no "windows has shut down unexpectedly" prompt on start up. So it seems the computer just can't turn itself off. Now this is something I'm used to as my computer's used to do this before i moved it into a new case, but that resolved the issue. I've tried many different things to fix it including updating drivers, and a clean start up (I think that's what it's called, I booted it without the drivers for everything and it still didn't shut down lol). I really have no idea what the deal with it is, and while I've dealt with this for a while now I still want it fixed, so maybe someone here can help me out. okay so this started last night I had to restart my pc for some updates so I did. when the pc restarted there was no audio it said "Windows could not start Audio service". After reading on a few forums and trying to fix it i went to sleep. This morning I realised something is also wrong with my control panel. I can access something like fonts but to uninstall a program or open windows update it just hangs there not doing anything. forums said it was a corrupted file so I tried to do the sfc /scannow I've done it before but now it just hangs as well, it does say its beginning the scan. I then restored the system to a file 2 days ago. The Control Panel and the problems with opening parts of it is still happening. I have just done a restore to a file 4 days ago to see if it fixes the problem. But has anyone had this before? It's bloody annoying. I'm running windows 8.1 pro and mostly install all updates.

For the past few days I've been having issues with my PC randomly freezing. All peripherals become unresponsive and my system clock stays frozen, the only way to make the system responsive again is to hold the power button until it powers down and then reboot. I have tried doing a clean install with only essential programs and the problem is still occurring. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Two days after I finished my latest build, I randomly started experiencing issues where windows would hang for anywhere from a few seconds to the point where it would require a hard restart. I've been troubleshooting this for a week and none of what I've attempted seems to have had any effect for more than a day. Windows and all of my drivers are up to date, I flashed the BIOS to the latest version, I ran Prime95 for 12 hours with acceptable temps all around (under 60°C), I've run a number of benchmarks to stress the other components, I ran chkdsk in the console to check both of the hard drives for errors, which they both passed, I checked the event viewer and disabled my AVG 2013 Identity Protection as that was the only error in there besides one that has to do with NVIDIA's 320.18 drivers crashing, and the system will run for days in safe mode. I had it running the latest version of Ubuntu from CD to check if it was an issue with my copy of Windows and it still seems to be hanging on there as well, though that might just be because I was running it off a disk. The only test I haven't run that I probably should is Memtest, though I'm fairly certain that it isn't the RAM. As much as I dread the thought of needing to disassemble a brand new system, my main suspect right now is the motherboard, even though it posts and everything seems to be in working order, seeing as the other components don't seem to be the cause of the problem, but other than that the only thing I can think to do now is format my C: drive, reinstall windows, and hope that resolves the issue. On a side note, sometimes after it hangs the cursor will become an odd mix of yellow and pink and appear like I'm inside of a text box regardless of what I am doing. Also the components performance does not skyrocket during the hangs. But yeah, I digress, any advice would be welcome, especially if you've dealt with or know of a similar issue.

Hello Forum! I recently built a computer that holds an asus GTX 770 ( a fairly hefty GPU) and the side opposite of the mobo and cases where it is installed sags down a bit. I was just wondering how you guys have dealt with it? I was thinking of tying a string to the pipe and henging it from the top of the case. Would wedging a metal piece below it be better? your thoughts?

Hi there, writing this is going to take a while, and fixing has already depleted my patience, willpower for this $1300 AUD Gaming PC, but i will battle on, for it is my first, and only PC. My Specs are in the signature, I've written a few posts on other websites, and have got my local store to have a look at my PC. they replaced the Mobo in the first month of ownership because of a faulty fan header, and the PSU was replaced last week, but problems persist. I would say i'm approximately halfway through fixing this PC. Its a comprehensive problem, and i'll do my best to fill you guys in. The LTT forum is excellent IMHO. * This PC is 3 months and 1 week old. For the first 2 months, it has been "hanging" (stalling). Windows is very unstable, and considering the power of this PC, it shouldn't be happening! 5 minutes ago i copied a file from my HDD to SSD, and it dropped to 0MB/s 5 times in the 12 GB copy, and while it was going the PC did its typical hangs. * The SSD is running in IDE mode on the SATA controller for the SSD. I didn't change it on the first POST, and have been stuck with it. Yes speeds are slower, yes i hate it. But changing it to AHCI mode causes a BSOD, so i can't fix the problem. In the past 2 weeks, i started getting Black screens (meaning power cycle) in games. They would occur after 40-60 mins in a game. If i ran Crysis 3 or Furmark it would black screen instantly. My local store replaced the PSU, And the Black Screens stopped. But that isn't the end... When i first started the PC with the new PSU, the fan in the PSU was clicking very loudly. It stopped the next day. My PC is sitting on carpet with the PSU fan facing down (i used to have it facing up). The next problem, Underperforming: For the first 2 months after i got the PC built. I could play BF4 on near Ultra at 60fps. The situation has deteriorated to playing BF4 on medium to get 60fps. For the fairly beastly and bloody expensive setup that i have, that's really disgusting. The PC underperforms in other games, but BF4 is the most prime example, which suggests an issue with the CPU. Still i ran a CInebench R15, and got 409. Thats the same result as other FX-6300 and OCed Fx-6100s that i've seen online. Now i may have fixed this issue, by disabling GPU overdrive in AMD CCC. I think its always been on, i thought disabling it would disable any form of GPU boost. After finding that my GPU was sitting at 500mhz core and 1500mhz GPU at 0.950v (idle), but when after disabling GPU overdrive and going into BF4, i upped the settings to Ultra without AA and it ran close to 60, so i think thats fixed that. The next issue: In my headphones, theres a strange but quiet grinding/buzzing/can't describe irritating noise. I could be coil whine, but i don't really know. It doesn't happen through my speakers. Actually. After listening to Coil Whine here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP73edpQwgc, i don't think it is coil whine, i can't hear anything without headphones on, and its a lot quiet than coil whine, and not such a high note. And the final issues: Mail has started running really slowly. Livecomm.exe gets loads of errors in Event viewer (i've linked livecomm.exe with mail) So the main issues now are: Stalling in windows, SSD in IDE mode, and the noise through the headphones. If there are any log files anywhere, or if theres anything in particular i should look for in event viewer. Heres some things i’ve done • I have not overclocked • I have the latest WHQL GPU drivers • Temperatures: the GPU doesn’t go over 70°C, nor the CPU over 50°C. I can’t monitor the PSU temperature, and i can't see the mobo temps, but i doubt that they are overheating. • I’ve read on Toms hardware that PSUs will reset the CPU (aka restart the PC) to prevent the PC from catching on fire. The manual for my PSU confirmed this, saying that my “budget class” PSU will do this (so thats what was wrong with the PSU i got RMAd • I’ve done a chkdisk, and checked the RAM • I’ve uninstalled all hardware monitors, MSI Kombustor and the like bar one (i found Open Hardware Monitor the other day, its amazing) * I regularly use CCleaner • Mobo is version F5 • I’ve gone through device manager, looking for anything thats out of date • i’ve downloaded the AMD chipset drivers from Gigabyte’s website. It used AMDs Catalyst Software, and told me that the chipset driver was installed, but it installed/repaired a few other things that were included in the driver download. • I use Windows Defender Note i haven't had a BSOD in a long time. So there's my Great Wall of Text. There isn't no TL;DR here. If you have any questions, i'm following this thread (of ****ing course cas i want to get this fixed!!!!!!) and i check my emails approximately every 5 seconds. So thanks in advance, i hope someone has an answer, advice, questions or anything! Also. this thread is a page and a half long in word!

So my specs are all in my signature. I came home today and turned on my PC after it was shut down normally for a few hours. I start it up and it hangs at the motherboard start-up screen for a good 2 minutes with nothing happening. I then turned off the pc and it took a few presses until it booted again immediately after I shut it down. It then started normally. What's the most likely cause of this?
