Hey folks. I'm looking for some information on a RAM issue I'm having. I recently built a budget-gaming PC, and purchased an off-brand H81 motherboard (LGA 1150) to go along with my i7-4790 (*non 'K', just regular 4790*) CPU. The motherboard only has two RAM slots (DDR3). When attempting to run two 8gb DDR3 1600 sticks at the same time, the computer will not boot. Only when one slot is occupied (only 8gb total RAM), the computer will boot perfectly fine. I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions or advice on this issue. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as this issue has been present for some time now. Thanks! - Jim A

I have an EVM H81(a local name) motherboard which has only a single USB 2.0 header which is also a 4pin not a 9pin which means it can only drive a single USB 2.0 port off of that, I was thinking to use the external USB hub I have laying around and desolder its ports and use it as a 1 to 4 internal hub, The problem is I want two devices connected to the hub all the time (the ARGB controller for strip and the case single usb 2.0 port) and I think the 4pin header wont be able to have sufficient power for both the devices, so can I use molex to power the USB hub somehow?

I've got two Asus H series boards here, an H87I-Plus and a H81M-C. Both are listed as compatible with i5 4590S, 4460S, and 4590 CPU's. Both are updated to the current BIOS. Both work flawlessly with an i3 4130 or a Celeron G1820. Both will not POST with any of the i5 CPU's I have here installed. All 3 i5 CPU's post and work fine in an HP Pegatron IPM87-MP motherboard just fine, that's also an H87 chipset so this isn't a chipset issue? It must be some BIOS problem with Asus?. So all the hardware works on both sides, CPU's and Motherboards. I reset the BIOS to defaults when swapping CPU's in BIOS and with the jumper as well. What in the world is going on here? Why will none of my Asus boards worth with these 3 i5 CPU's? Am I completely missing something? CPU list from Asus for both boards btw, just so you all don't think I'm stupid or crazy or both. I jumped through some hoops before with the H87I-Plus board with Asus support that ended with 'send it in and we'll charge you a lot of money' https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H81MC/HelpDesk_CPU/ https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/H87IPLUS/HelpDesk_CPU/ I'm seriously dumbfounded here, does anyone have this combo of board and CPU that's working? I really wanted to use my ITX board in my ITX case with this i5 CPU, now I'm concerned that ANY CPU that's not one of the two that works in it won't work in it for some reason. I've got an i3 4150 coming that I scored on a deal, I guess if that works I'm stuck with that.

Hi all, I'm looking to buy an LGA 1150 system however I've seen that some motherboards need a BIOS update before they can be used with certain chips. Asus H81M-PLUS i7-4770 That is the combo I'm looking at buying, if possible could someone please tell me if I need to buy a cheap 1150 Pentium just to update the BIOS or if I'll be fine and they'll work together straight away. Thanks in advance.

Can a Mobo that doesnt support raid and SRT benefit from SSHD speed? Hi! im quite new with PC building. Im planning to upgrade my Storage from 1TBHDD to 2TB SSHD. I was planning on buying SSD to use as cache for my HDD but i just found out that my Asrock H81 doesnt support Raid and Smart Response Technology. If i replace my HDD with an SSHD will I get the same benefits of the speed with other Mobos (using SSHD) that support Raid and SRT? ... I hope this makes any sense. Thanks

Hello everyone! I will be building my first computer some time soon, and I will probably get a microatx case. My cpu will be the g3258. Now I know that I can overclock this cpu on the H chipsets, but due to future proofing I was thinking about getting a Z board, because the first thing I probably will upgrade it the cpu, but not sure if I want an unlocked. Should I get a Z97 board? And if no, should I just go with a h81 board or get a h97 board? Thanks

Hi, I wanted to know if my CPU temps were safe enough not to damage it. I'm on a tight budget and don't wanna spend money on an aftermarket cooler right now so I use the Intel stock cooler. I already overclocked it to 4.0GHz at 1.1V during a while and it was stable, never got more than 55°C but i wanted to see how far I could push it on stock cooler. So i stress tested my cpu after OC'ing it. I got it up to 4.4GHz at 1.2V With 100% CPU usage: 60°C max #CPU 65°C max #CPU Core 1 60°C max #CPU Core 2 My specs: -Intel G3258 -MSI H81M P33 -2x4Gb DDR3 Crucial Ballistic Sport -KFA 2 DARBEE GTX 750 Ti -1To HDD Seagate -Corsair CX 430 PSU Sorry if my english sucks

I'm building my friend a budget PC, and I want to know if there's much of a difference between the Z97 chipset and H81. The cheapest motherboard I can find that has LGA1150 and a USB 3.0 header has H81M, but MY motherboard has Z97. Is there any real difference, or should I go for a Z97?

So in my browsing of the internets I've ben reading about non-z overclocking. Seeing as I want to build a low budget PC, a non-z overclock capable MoBo like the MSI H81m E33 sounds like a screaming deal, however I can't find any up to date information on whether or not Intel is still allowing this "glitch" to go on for much longer. So does anyone know anything about this? Is non-z still a thing? Is it still reliable? Will it be sticking around? -Ch

Okay, so recently I lost my work/play PC due to a unfortunate house fire on Christmas eve! Yay! Excellent Christmas gift, I'm blaming santa! I'm wanting to build a system that don't draw as much power and can still run games with a little headroom. I am aiming to get a i5 4460 refresh when I am able to afford it but I am at a loss here! When using PC part picker I noticed that due to the haswell refresh a lot of the older motherboards that just might be in my price range may require a bios update. Oh man, you know the feeling. . . Just got that new box of PC parts in the mail and you get a no-post just to find out you need to buy yet another chip JUST to do a bios update?! No thanks! That is something I would like to avoid and due to the repairs and redneck remodeling I really, really need to save as much money as possible on this build. I have attempted to do my homework and check with motherboard MFG's to see what Bios they ship with their boards that I was interested in, this proved to be a waste of time and next to impossible, even contacting the seller directly like Newegg or Amazon they were unable to tell me which bios I would end up with. I do use my PC for work too but the requirements for that are next to nothing just basic VDI software. I was able to Salvage a Corsair VX 430 PSU, My brother gave me 8 GB of RAM and a MSI GTX 960 4GB OC. Anyone have any suggestions on a good motherboard to pair with the 4460? I cannot afford $100.00 on a board, I honestly can't even afford $75.00, $50 to $60 would be my max so please keep that in mind if helping, I'm NOT picky and almost don't care if it includes USB 3.0 but that would be nice! I am also most comfortable with MSI products but would be open to any suggestion especially if it is in my price range and it's guaranteed to work with a haswell refresh. Also for all of you intel peeps out there, is there a cheaper i5 that I can buy that will run most games? I want to make sure its a quad core because I don't want to have to do any work around's to run games like farcry 4 and whatnot. Thank you for reading my post! Any help is appreciated!

Hey guys, just wondering because I'll be putting a build together soon; how does the motherboard chipset affect the BIOS process and the overall quality of a computer? This is one of the areas in which I am completely clueless. More specifically: What is the difference between a motherboard with a B85 chipset, a H81 chipset... etc.? What are "BIOS" and how do I update them when I first boot a new computer? Almost every board says it supports Intel i7/i5/i3/Pentium processors, why even bother with a "better" chipset and more expensive board? Would the chipset effect the capabilities of a i5-4460 CPU? And finally, could you recommend an inexpensive mATX, SATA 6gb/s, USB 3.0 board to me? Thanks everyone in advance for the help, I always enjoy hearing from the community

Hi guys, I posted a thread a few weeks ago on building a mini ITX computer, and I was going to use something likes this H81 board but somebody told me that it wouldn't support the 4460/4590/4690. I thought it would work just fine (possibly after a BIOS update). What do you think? If I have to do a BIOS update I could just put my Pentium G3420 in and switch it out for the new CPU once the update is done.

HI i'm building a budget PC for MOBA games and web surfing. I'm upgrading with some older stuff (HDD, RAM) Build Plan 1 Gigabyte H81 S2PV Intel® Core™ i3-4150 Processor (4160 and 4170 not available in my country) Cooler Master N200 FSP HEXA+ 450 Toshiba 1TB HDD Prolink 650VA Line Interactive Kingston 1333MHz 4GB(old) Build Plan 2 Gigabyte B85 HD3 Intel® Core™ i3-4150 Processor (4160 and 4170 isn't available in my country) Antec GX500 FSP HEXA+ 450 Hitachi 500GB(old) Prolink 650VA Line Interactive Kingston 1333MHz 8GB(old) I have 8GB RAM sticks(1x4GB and 2x2GB). For the Power Supply the SS500BT Eco is another alternative option(These two PSUs are the best reliable options in here) Online purshase isn't going to work since it'll cost a lot more Is there any build quality(Power phase and Voltage Regulation) difference between the H81 and the B85 other than the added features Planning to run this system for more than 3 years. And for UPS options will the 650VA be enough ? Planning to buy a GTX 950 in 4 months Thank you in Advance UPDATE OK I'm going with Build Plan 2 But now i need to choose between the FSP HEXA+ 450W and the Seasonic SS500BT(408W on the +12V) Which one of these PSUs should i choose ? Planning to buy a GTX 950 later As for motherboard options the Asus H97M-E is available for a bit more. Should i go for it or just get the Gigabyte B85 HD3 ? Will a 650VA UPS be enough to power up this system ?

Hey guys, I'm having some hard time deciding what MOBO to choose. I have an i5 4460, 16 GHz of 1600 RAM and a R9 380 4GB. I don't care about overclock (see the non-K CPU) and I am just a mid-level gamer. I don't know if I should go with ASROCK H97 Pro4 or the ASUS H81 Gamer (same price here). This is what I know: ASRock: It's a newer chipset, windows 10 ready and supports from the start the 4460 CPU. ASUS: it's a older chipset, windows 8.1 ready (not windows 10 ready -yet), it need a bios update so the 4460 can run and it has supremeFX audio. TBH, I was 99% sure that I will get the ASRock MOBO. But that blue color scheme is ruining all because I have RED rams and an MSI video card. So the only real reason I would pick the ASUS is the color and maybe the SupremeFX audio. Let me know what would you do? Thank you!

Hello all, For christmas I am going to be building my own pc so I am looking through parts on Amazon. So far I have found this motherboard but I want to know will it support my ram and processor the I5 4460. Motherboard: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-GA-H81M-H-Motherboard-Micro-Socket/dp/B00IS69CFW/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1442603019&sr=1-2&keywords=h81+micro+atx Ram: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00J8E90I2/ref=twister_B00KV8K43E?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Processor: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-3-20GHz-Graphics-Technology-Socket/dp/B00K5J2306/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1442603285&sr=1-1&keywords=I5+4460

Hi LTT! So my local computer shop is selling a combo of an i5-4460 and an Asus H81M-D PLUS. I am aware that these two do not match bc the 4460 is a Haswell Refresh CPU, but the shop will update the BIOS on the spot, and bloody hell its only like $140 Would you advise to get it, or play safe and grab a H97 board *Note: this is like a fire sale, and the people in the store who will buy are having doubts (like I am), so I'm asking on behalf of the people*

Here is my issue. I have a i7-4770K on a asrock h81m-hds. I'd like to add more ram but obviously can't on my chip set. What are my options? I'm pretty sure I am limited to 32BG max on the 770K (correct me if I am wrong.) I'm looking for opinions on what you all think are good options. Money is not really an issue but if you have a favorite that isn't the "top tier" I'd love to hear, like I said just looking for input. Things to keep in mind: This is a 3D/2D workstation that I also use for gaming but that is secondary and now most specs overlap. I work freelance and business is going well so it's time to upgrade. I am mostly in the adobe suite After Effects 80% or the time, hence the need for crazy amounts of ram. I'm running a gtx970 and wouldn't mind the option to go sli in the future (I use a gpu render system so I would get a lot of use out of it) Extra credit: 64GB would be ideal so feel free to give me a processor mobo combo if you feel like going the extra mile but this is second to the problem above) Extra, extra credit: my psu is only a 500W, I know, I know, just haven't gotten around to upgrading it. Sorry if this has been asked new here.

Hi, I've recently bought Pentium G3258 and a cheap MSI motherboard, the H81M PRO-VD, because it was the cheapest available supporting front panel USB 3.0. I know, I should've bought something better for OCing, like z97, but I've seen successful overclock on even cheaper boards, like h81m-p33. Here's the issue: I can't overclock my CPU either automatically via OC Genie 4.0 nor manually. When I activate OC Genie in BIOS (there's a virtual button for the boards without physical one) and run Intel Extreme Tuning utility in Windows I can't change the clock ratio in Basic Tuning menu, and in Advanced Tuning there's "Overclocking Lock" setting, disabled. To enable this a reboot is needed, but after that i get the message that Overclocking Lock could not be applied. When I try to OC maually I can't even rise the multiplier by 1 - the system gets stuck in the booting loop, goes up to displaying Windows logo and sometimes "Starting repair" caption and then it reboots. This happens regardless of the voltage setting - I've tried Override with 1.250V and Auto (just in case), and there's no difference. Also, CPU-Z shows my multiplier as x32 (x8-x32), which would mean that I can't push it any further. Any help?
