I just can't figure out how to create an option menu (drop-down list or combobox) with items from the set in the dictionary. I have various sets, but I'm only interested in the "Individuals" set at the moment. The instructions that I found on the Internet tell how to create an option menu with already existing items in the list or set, but my set is initially empty, and gradually fills up when the user enters a new name in this set. I would like to know how to create an option menu that will display all the names that are in the "Individuals" set. The final result should look like: Please select an individual: Name1 ________________________ Name2 ________________________ Name3 etc. My current option menu just displays all the sets that are in the dictionary, and not the names in the "Individuals" Set. My code: from tkinter import * from tkinter import messagebox import tkinter.ttk as ttk # This code is a simplified version of a full program code. In the original program, there is not only a list # of individuals, but also lists of team1, team2 ... team4. # However, now I am only interested in the problems associated with individual list, # and I cut out all the part of the code related to team. class CollegeApp(Tk): def __init__(self): Tk.__init__(self) container = ttk.Frame(self) container.pack(side="top", fill="both", expand=True) self.frames = {} for F in (IndividPage, listCheckPage, counterPage): frame = F(container, self) self.frames[F] = frame frame.grid(row=0, column=0, sticky="nsew") self.show_frame(IndividPage) self.lift() def show_frame(self, cont): frame = self.frames[cont] frame.tkraise() # In this class I have created a window with entry widget to input name of individual and save it in # eponymous set "Individual" class IndividPage(ttk.Frame): def __init__(self, parent, controller): self.controller = controller ttk.Frame.__init__(self, parent) self.userEntry() def userEntry(self): headingTest = Label(self, text="Enter your User Name:", font="Arial 20") headingTest.grid(row=0, column=0, pady=5, padx=5) self.usernameEnter = Entry(self, width=40) self.usernameEnter.grid(row=0, column=1, padx=5, pady=5) self.TeamName = StringVar(self) self.TeamName.set("Individual") confirmBtn = Button(self, text="Confirm User", font="Arial 16", command=self.confirm) confirmBtn.config(height=4, width=12) confirmBtn.grid(row=2, column=2, sticky=E, padx=45, pady=360) # Checking the "add_to_team" function has been executed and moving to the next page. def confirm(self): if self.add_to_team(): self.controller.show_frame(listCheckPage) # Function to check the presence of input def add_to_team(self): user = self.usernameEnter.get() if len(user) == 0: messagebox.showwarning(title='No user', message='Please enter a username!') return if self.usernameEnter.get(): self.controller.show_frame(listCheckPage) team_name = self.TeamName.get() team = teams[team_name] team.add(user) self.controller.frames[listCheckPage].team_listboxes[team_name].insert(END, user) print(teams) # Class that creates page with lists of four teams and individuals (Focusing on individuals right now) # Also there is two buttons "Add User" and "Start Counter" to start points calculator class listCheckPage(ttk.Frame): def __init__(self, parent, controller): self.controller = controller ttk.Frame.__init__(self, parent) self.userEntry() def userEntry(self): self.team_listboxes = {} for col_num, teamname in enumerate(teams): teamMembers = Listbox(self) teamMembers.config(height=13, width=15) teamMembers.grid(row=0, column=col_num, padx=5, pady=50, sticky=S) for i, user in enumerate(teams[teamname]): teamMembers.insert(i, user) self.team_listboxes[teamname] = teamMembers INDHeading = Label(self, text="Individuals", font="Arial 16") INDHeading.grid(row=0, column=4, pady=0, padx=15, sticky=N) addUserBtn = Button(self, text="Add User", font="Arial 16", command=lambda: self.controller.show_frame(IndividPage)) addUserBtn.config(height=3, width=80) addUserBtn.grid(row=1, column=0, columnspan=5, pady=0, sticky=N) CounterBtn = Button(self, text="Start Counter", font="Arial 16", command=lambda: self.controller.show_frame(counterPage)) CounterBtn.config(height=3, width=80) CounterBtn.grid(row=2, column=0, columnspan=5, pady=0, sticky=N) # Main problem start here # This class creating dropdown menu (or combobox) with sets "teamX" and "Individual" but it was unplanned # I want this combobox to show not all possible sets (team1, team2 etc.). # Instead of that I want the combobox will show all the names that were entered in the "Individuals" set. # I would also like to point out that the same process will be used for the sets of team1, team2 etc. class counterPage(ttk.Frame): def __init__(self, parent, controller): self.controller = controller ttk.Frame.__init__(self, parent) self.userEntry() def userEntry(self): indivLabel = Label(self, text="Please select an individual: ", font="Arial 20") indivLabel.grid(row=0, column=0, pady=10, padx=10) IndivName = StringVar(self) IndivName.set(teams['Individual']) indivMenu = OptionMenu(self, IndivName, *teams) indivMenu.grid(row=0, column=1, pady=10, padx=10) backBtn = Button(self, text="BACK", font="Arial 16", height=2, width=6, command=lambda: self.controller.show_frame(IndividPage)) backBtn.grid(row=7, column=0, sticky=W, pady=245, padx=10) if __name__ == '__main__': teams = {} for team in range(1, 5): teams[f'Team{team}'] = set() teams = {'Team1': set(), 'Team2': set(), 'Team3': set(), 'Team4': set(), 'Individual': set()} app = CollegeApp() app.geometry("800x500") app.resizable(False, False) app.title('Points Counter') app.mainloop()

Hi, kinda lengthy question here. My dad currently is using an old first or second gen iPad. However, since it is not compatible with iOS 11 and further, it cannot run apps like the ESPN app, the Weather Channel app, or Youtube. Now, in research, I found that linux can run android apps via Anbox. I also found a version of linux on an ipad, iSH, which runs Alpine Linux on the tablet. So, thinking about it, I formed a plan to convert his tablet to linux. (keep in mind, I'm kind of new to linux, so some things may be incorrect) 1. Install iSH on tablet 2. Find some way to make Alpine main OS instead of iOS 3. Install a mobile/tablet-based GUI 4. Install AnBox 5. Install necessary Android apps However, as I have stated above, I am a newbie to Linux, so I have a few questions... When you download iSH, does it really download Alpine onto the tablet? Or is it connecting to some server? If it really is downloading Alpine, would I able to somehow be able to make the iPad boot straight to Alpine? Or would I have to run everything in the app? If everything is running in the app, and I were to a GUI and multiple applications on Linux, would that cause the tablet to run choppy (even if I had all other iOS apps uninstalled)? If I'm able to somehow boot straight to Alpine, would I still have someway to use an on-screen/external keyboard, or would I essentially brick it? Are there any good mobile/tablet-centered GUI's compatible for Linux (or one that would work well with a mobile device)? Thanks to anyone and everyone that helps!

I have started getting back into VMS and learning about LINUX. I have played with tails before so I thought it would be easier. I just wanted to know if anyone had any idea how to change the resolution of a VM before it launches. As you can see in my pics the start button is cut off on my VM. Is this a really simple fix? Like the UI being too small? On the topic of VMS, is tails really the best? My overall "checklist" is getting as close to air gapped as possible and compatibility with a browser that lets me connect to proxies Window by window - like firefox. Rather than the whole system at once and having to reconnect. Even if it were a similarly based premises, like all traffic is forced through a VPN. So essentially my internet traffic goes to my PC - NordVpn - Tails in VM and from there I would connect to whatever proxies I need.

Just a quick question: It seems to me that nowadays when i buy a game it is linked with steam or something similar, each with separate logins. Not to mention things like eve, blizzard launcher, elite dangerous launcher. Is there a piece of software that might act as a central interface. I'm thinking of something that when installed asks me to enter log in details for each client and then auto logs to all on launchers, creating a central interface. Not even counting origin, not sure if that still exists. All these launcher are beginning to drive me insane!

Native GUI/GPU Support Coming 'This Year' For Windows Subsystem for Linux Source: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/05/19/wsl2_gui/ Through collaboration between Canonical and Microsoft, it looks like WSL is going to be getting a big upgrade to include native GUI and GPU support later this year. While it's been possible to get a GUI environment working for some time, this will be the first out-of-the-box support. Would you have use cases for GUI or GPU support in WSL?

Good program/ webpage for designing a GUI?
Squibbies18 posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
So as part my coursework this semester we have to design a GUI (not a working one just a basic design) based on the retro C++ games that we've already made. My group made a text based adventure set in space so i want the title screen with a planet and the players ship in the background while having a menu at the bottom and stuff like date and time at the top. iI want it to look like the older generation of games were so quite blocky and pixely does anyone know a good program/ utility i can use? -
Hi there! I have created a topic located on another website that you can reply to. But this is just a Crowd supported Idea(s) that I want to make possible. So what Has Happened is the fact that they changed the GUI and the fact that they did some stupid things that should of left be. and I want it to be fixed and more favorable to the public by targeting there website forum with a message. since I'm a Premium User of spotify i see it as the wrong thing to do is make things look worse. So here is a link that will explain the rest. https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Linux-Windows-Web-Player/What-we-want-to-see-with-the-GUI/m-p/1492737#M170458

Hello fellas, I'm looking for a website / software which would allow me to edit HTML documents in a way that I can drag & drop input fields and check boxes on specific locations without having to actually go and mess with the CSS by hand. My goal is to convert PDF documents into HTML (currently using this website https://www.idrsolutions.com/online-pdf-to-html5-converter which only gets the visual part done, no function tho), add the input fields & boxes (would be more awesome if converter did that. but so far haven't found anything decent) so that I can read the user input data & save it into SQL database / or make it accessible for use via JS / PHP. If you guys have any suggestions, please share! I'd appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

Hey all, having some trouble with FreeNAS's web GUI. (I had FreeNAS up before on some old hardware before I got some cheap stuff to run it off of and despite the learning curve of setting it up that first time I didn't have any problems. ) However, installing it on the newer hardware I've run into a couple of problems. Installation went well enough but the web GUI was fairly unreliable. Most consistently the "services" tab just refuses to load. Often the window on the left where it shows everything branches sometimes refuses to load as well. Occasionally switching between tabs will work and cause that left window to load but I've only gotten the Services tab to load after fiddling with it for HOURS. I'm not hugely tech savy (trying to learn!) so I'm not exactly sure where to look for solutions. My guess is that something in the networking is not set up correctly and it's not communicating well through the GUI. Through the tinkering I managed to get the Volume I had set up before (on the old hardware) and actually gotten an SMB share set up (and the setting to be turned on) and so I've gotten a shared volume that I can put stuff onto. Even when the web GUI was hosed I was still able to upload stuff to the volume. I've tried several installations with a couple of things to trouble shoot. I had some problems installing to a USB with the old Hardware so I ended up having to install it on an old 40gb drive I had lying around. But with the new hardware I was able to install it on a flash drive. The one I used was a little bit cheap but I tried a better one and it was still having the same issues. (The 2-3 USB sticks I tried and the 40gb HD with a working installation from the old setup all still had problems accessing the "Services" tab on the GUI as well as the occasional error while going through various things in the GUI) Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. About to switch to something else which I'd rather not do and just figure out what's wrong with it. This seems like a fantastic OS and would love to learn more about it. My hardware in case that helps (minus the actual drives, just place holders right now until I get it up and running and plus an old video card I had to get a video output to access the console) - https://pcpartpicker.com/user/popuptwo/saved/QWmYJx A couple of pictures to show what I'm talking about. http://imgur.com/a/KrZM0 Also, after a bit of research I've found that this motherboard has a "Realtek" NIC built in and that may be the cause of the problem. I'm working on getting a different NIC to see if that will solve my problems.

I am currently using audacity with a file that has many tracks. They do not fit on my 1080p screen well. Is there a way I can make the interface smaller so that I can see more in my audacity window?

This summer to get a bit more invested in programming, decided to finally pick up a little project of my own. I usually have all my expenses down on an excel sheet, to make sure I break even at minimum lol Which gave me an idea for my first project of my own. a GUI expanse calculator. Decided to go with Python, mainly because I feel like there is more doing with python than the little time I spent with java, with more time spent figuring out the peculiar syntax, I want this project to be a good practice getting comfortable with using classes, storing files, reading from them to put on, creating a decent UI, all that. Feel free to snap me out of the excel sheet way I am approaching this, and if there is a better way to make this. TLDR The reason I made this post, I am unsure what is considered a proper way to store weekly expenditure, a list? How do I go on storing them permanently, so that the next time I open it, the previous data is still there? What's the proper way of storing them so that I can easily read them again, and put them on a table on the final app. Some pointers would be appreciated, not looking for someone to tell me to do xyz, more like you'll need this and that, look into that and that, play around with them kinda thing. I hope I wasn't too obscure, any help is appreciated.

I'm trying to make a settings menu for my A-Level coursework in Computer Science and one of my aims is to have a themes system and a menu to change it. So far, the theme switching menu works and changes the backgrounds, text colours, button colours etc but the actual drop down menu doesn't change colour according to the theme and it doesn't look very good on the dark theme background. Has anyone got much experience with tkinter and can tell me which config value I need to set to change the colour? (attached are an image of my settings menu with the drop down open and the code for getting colours from json file and creating the option menu) Code: theme import from json: creating optionmenu: json file:

Hi, so I am planning to make a desktop GUI Windows app as a part of my physics seminar work. The app would let the user easily make and arrange a few magnets, and then it would calculate and draw their magnetic field. The problem is that I don't know which IDE or language should I use to create it. I have got quite decent experience in C# or Java, so I was thinking of a Windows Form Application or a JavaFX app. Would it be a good solution or are there any better ones?

Have had this for a while now but the ever so often buffering is really bugging me now. I watch a stream on twitch.tv and it never buffers but when I use Streamlink I get buffering. Anyone have any suggestions on how to eliminate it? I've tried various players, different buffer cache settings and it still buffers. My laptop doesn't like the website, plus the quality compared to a streamlink stream is terribad.

Hello world! Lol. I have this great idea for a piece of software that i'd like to create and then eventually sell as a product. After doing some research on similar apps (in the vein of music notation programs) I decided to take the dive and tackle C++ language. The thing is, I'm beginning to get a sense of just how complex GUI programming is. So I thought I might code the app myself using most likely Code::Blocks with the WxWidgets library (or Qt library) to get a nice working "rough draft" of the software. Then, on down the road, take my GUI ideas to somebody who is really good at that sort of thing and pay them to do the GUI for real. I just want to make sure from someone with experience in software development that that is a viable strategy. I don't want to "code myself into a corner" along the way foreclosing the possibility of me being able to outsource that in the future. It would totally not be cool to put in years of work only to learn that you are stuck with a GUI situation dealing with all kinds of licencing strings attached and you can't change it or it would take forever if you wanted to. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

During the summer I worked at a small IT shop doing basic installations of computers for clients. Since 99% of the computers went to random places, things such as volume licensing or AD weren't an option for easy installation and setup. Microsoft kept rearranging the Control Panel & Settings application in every update, so it was pretty infuriating to try to do anything and had to keep searching for basic settings, so I decided to create a simple program/GUI in Autohotkey. I call it Panel, the missing GUI for Windows. Source code and compiled exe's are available in the Github repository It's made with Autohotkey and the installation functionality uses the Chocolatey package manager. Features - GUI with buttons to quickly access settings, folders etc. (that do not constantly move or rearrange. Hint hint, Microsoft) - Ninite-style GUI for installing applications via Chocolatey - To use the installation feature, you need to have Chocolatey installed or install it with clicking the CMD- or PS Install buttons, which will run the command to install Chocolatey. - KDE-style alt+drag window moving and resizing. Original script by Jonny from Autohotkey script showcase Hotkeys - Global - alt+§ WindowShade - alt + left/right mouse button Move and resize windows - ctrl + q Send alt-F4 - ctrl + h minimize window - Windows Explorer - F1 up 1 directory - Panel - F1 cmd.exe - F2 Run… -prompt - F5 reload Panel - F6 reload Panel as admin - F7 run WUMT.exe (Windows Update Minitool, needs to be in the same directory as Panel) - F8 Run portable CCleaner (needs to be in the same directory) - F9 Windows Update - F12 Open Folders panel that stays on top of other windows - alt + q UAC settings - alt + w Control Panel - alt + d Task Manager - alt + F1 Turn display off I didn't originally make it to be published anywhere, but since a lot of other people are also having the same frustrations with Windows, I decided to release it. Any comments, suggestions or improvement ideas?

I'm working on a Battleship game with a few friends, just a little project, and I just do not understand how to make a GUI for it. I have looked at stuff like this for reference: ChessBoardWithColumnsAndRows.java But I do not understand how a lot of it works. The actual variable that makes up the board is a 2D array of booleans that is 12x12. How would I make a simple GUI in JFrame that would show 12x12 boxes that show whether the boxes boolean is true or false. Is it possible to do in under 50 lines? Here is the code for the rest of the game: BattleboardAI.java BattleboardPlus.java goodjob2_wav.AU laugh_wav.AU Ship.java

I've been working on a simple dice game in python part of a school challenge and am adding a gui. Its not meant to be anything grand, just like minesweeper level, so I'm using tk/tkinter. I hit an odd issue, when I try to open/import an image it works...kinda When the function that creates the window and image is on its on script and is called to as shown here, it works with no issue. but when I call the function in the game code I get the following error The function is called with just rolldisplay() and it finds the icon image with no trouble so I'm not sure what the issue is. I've tried moving the window/image to the main program(instead of using a function) and I tried appending the system path and giving a full path name. Thanks I would list the full code but its something like 300 lines and is still messy since I'm adding the gui to what was a functional text based game.
