  1. Hi i got a new pc 2 weeks ago from a friend yes the PC is a bit older and not brand new but its 10 times better then my old one i have been using it for 2 weeks dayli now and it runs without any issues. But the day i decided to clean it i noticed that the left PCIE cabel wont fit all the way into the power slot of the GPU i have pulled it out and put it back in but it wont fully go in are some cables designed that way to stick out for any reason? i checked the inside theres nothing blocking the pins or bend pins friend told me its fine as long as it runs. tho i am still a bit uncomfortable seeing that cable stick out like that and dunno if theres any risks to it but as already said i cant get them in any further
  2. Hello, I have a system I built back in 2017 and I'm wondering if this is considered good for what I have. I ran a benchmark on heaven 4.0 Gtx 1080 ti asus poseidon I7 6700k xmp profile and running at 4.6 16gb trident z ram Customer water loop. Temps are getting up to 68 C I feel like it is running too hot for a water cooled card that also has fans on it as well. And I don't really understand the settings in Gpu tweak, I just kinda raise them until it crashes lol. I really don't know much about overclocking so I have no idea what's good or bad or average. Any help is appreciated. I attached 3 pictures. Scores with 1080p and 1440p and also my gpu tweak settings. I just want to make sure this is safe to run in games and that nothing looks weird. Thanks!
  3. THE VIDEO I HAVE ATTATCHED HAS FLICKERING. EPILEPSY WARNING! Hi, I have been having very strange issues with my gpu. It is used and my setup is not the most common. It is running in a virtual machine with the host being proxmox and the virtual machine being arch linux I have 8 core deticated to it with 16gb of ram as well. My setup is a remote gaming setup where i use moonlight game stream with sunshine to allow me to play games anywhere. Now the screen is a virtual screen using Xorg tricks to make the driver think it is connected to a screen but I do not think this could be the issue The gpu utilisation in unigine superposition jumps from 70 to 100% constantly and causes the fps to jump from 20 to 40 in the extreme 1080p test. The final score is around ~ 3850 which is much lower then the usual a gtx 1080ti can get. Playing minecraft with shaders also feel choppy but without the insane flickering i get with the unigine benchmarks. I have attatched my dmesg which seems to have some errors but I cannot tell what they are about. Posiibly the gpu but I do not know. I have attatched my xorg.conf and the edid i am using for my virtual display The gpu itself never gets above 68C when gaming for long periods so it cannot be throttling. The gpu is at 1936mhz and it stays there but the gpu utilisation is a bit haywire My nvidia drivers are the latest 470.74 I am running linux kernel 5.14.7 I am using Arch linux Any help would be appreciated gpu1.mp4
  4. Budget (including currency): 2000eu Country: Greece Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Photoshop, Casual Games maybe and movie watching Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): So my current build is https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jxZwRT And I want to get the LG CX 48' monitor, I've found out to take maximum advantage of this display you need to a hdmi 2.1 compatible graphics card, which is the rtx 30 series. The rtx 3060ti right now can be found in my country around 900eu ... Should I just switch my gtx 1080ti with it and be done with it, or would it be beneficial for the system to operate for me to upgrade with a new mobo cpu ram upgrade? Are there any compatibility issues with my system and the newer 3060ti? I was thinking of the Ryzen 5 5600x. ps. 3060ti, or 3070? Thank you guys !
  5. Hey guys, I just updated all my drivers and moved from a 1080p and 1440p display down to just the 120hz 1080 display and I've noticed a significant performance drop in siege. I thought it might be due to the update in the game recently but I used to be maxed out at 120 and now it lags down to around 60-70fps??? anyone know anything about this it's almost is like with the old additional screen missing it doesnt like it and runs worse??? Thanks again
  6. About a year ago I bought a pc off of FB marketplace. I went to see the system, tested it out, and decided to buy it. The seller was awesome, he clearly knew his stuff and even provided me with a clean install of windows. I took the pc home, set it up, and it ran great for a few days until it started getting frame drops in game. I used NZXT CAM and MSI Afterburner to monitor the system and I saw that the GPU was throttling almost immediately after launching Destiny 2. After some minor troubleshooting, I took it to my local pc repair shop to see if they could figure out the problem. Several days later they called me and told me that they couldn't replicate the issue and that my system was fine. I went to pick it up and my pc ran fine after that with no issues. About a week ago I got a new SSD to upgrade my system. I replaced the old Vaseky 256gb SSD with a Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB and installed windows on the new SSD. Within days my GPU started thermal throttling again. As soon as I launch a game the GPU shoots up in temp and is at 84C within a couple minutes. I have taken my GPU out to clean the fans, updated the drivers using AVG Driver Updater, and even tried rolling back the GPU drivers to a previous version. So far I haven't been able to solve the problem. My system specs are as follows: CPU: i7 8700K GPU: ZOTAC 1080ti Amp Edition RAM: HyperX Predator 16gb 4000mhz Motherboard: MSI Z370i Carbon CPU Cooler: NZXT x52 AIO PSU: Seasonic Focus 80+ Gold 850 Watt SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1tb (previously Vaseky 256gb) HDD: Segate 2tb Any help is appreciated. I have done a fair bit of searching online and on forums and I haven't found anyone with a similar issue that wasn't solved by cleaning the card or updating the drivers.
  7. Hi everyone, I was planning on upgrading to the RTX 3080. I already own the GTX 1080 Ti. Is it possible to create a dual GPU setup with these two GPUs? And if so, is it even worth it or should I sell my 1080 to cover a little bit of the cost of the 3080? Motherboard ASRock X299 Taichi XE --> might change to MSI Meg X570 Unify CPU i7-7820x --> might change to Ryzen 9 5900X Thanks to all! Best regards, I
  8. 9. Hey guys, I have recently started folding. Origoanly both my GPU (GTX 1080ti) and CPU (i7-8086k) were working. After a few days my GPU is now stuck on waitng for WS Assignment, I have tried most of the stuff in other posts, but it hasn't worked. ANy help? Here is my log after some troubleshooting. It apperas to be a host issue. 10. I built my first PC around 7 years ago using Linus's ULTIMATE Build a Better $2000 Gaming & Silent Workstation PC Computer "How To" Guide back in 2013, with similar specs. That's still the same PC I use today, albeit with a few small upgrades. However, as I am now trying to edit 4K video in Premiere with an extremely stuttery playback, I'm looking to put another $1,700AUD (inc.shipping) into my PC. 80% of my use is Photoshop, Premiere and other editing applications, some GPU heavy, and some CPU heavy. I barely use it for gaming anymore, but when I have the chance, it's mainly sim based games like ETS2+ProMods, Cities Skylines, BeamNG.Drive, which I like to crank the settings up to ultra. I'd really like to get back into ETS2+ProMods, and my PC currently has a really tough time running it, probably due to the huge map size? IDK. I am only really looking to upgrade CPU, RAM, MOBO, & PSU. I have laid out what I think would be a good upgrades, however I am open to suggestions. Current & Proposed PC Specs: CPU Intel Core i7-4770k, never overclocked, stock cooler PROPOSED: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X $499 exl. shipping MOBO ASUS Sabertooth Z87 PROPOSED: ASUS TUF Gaming X570-PLUS (WI-FI) AM4 $335 exl. shipping RAM Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 (2x8GB) PROPOSED: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3600 $349 exl. shipping PSU Hytec 950W non-moduar, would like to replace with a more reputable brand PROPOSED: Corsair RM (2019) 850W 80+ Gold, Fully Modular $209 exl. shipping Things that I'm not changing: STORAGE Many SSD's and HDD's GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX1080Ti, never overclocked CASE Corsair 500R White I would wait until the prices for these items go down to buy to save some $'s. I'm also fine with stock cooling unless there is a reasonable increase in performance per $. Also, already have a WiFi PCI-e card, however Bluetooth would be good.
  11. Hello guys, I need your help. During gameplay my gtx 1080ti is achieving heavy tempatures between 80-84 celsius. Which of course is making my computer super noisy and very annoying. Whats interesting is that if i remove side of my case tempature of GPU is dropping down to 70-73 celsius. It looks like my case airflow is terrible. I will post a picture how my airflow looks now and i would be really glad if you can help me what to change or if its completely normal for this kind of setup. Thank you very much! PC spec: Intel core i7 8700K ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING 32 GB DDR4 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
  12. Hey folks, recently one of the fans for my good old MSI GTX 1080 TI Armor OC broke (over 80% speed -> makes crackling noise kinda like an old HDD). So I set the Temp-target to 80°C and max Fan-speed to 80% but I want to replace it soon. Sadly I can't find any replacement fans in my country (Germany). Also plan to re-paste because it's getting really hot these days (90°C+) so I already need to open the GPU. What options do I have? Can I buy identical china fans or do I have to use the exact same fans? Thanks for your help!
  13. Hey, I wanna upgrade my GTX 970 to something more powerful and I've been looking into the used market of Pascal cards. Before someone asks, yes, I know that the 30XX gen is gonna come out in like september, but rn would just be very convenient for me to upgrade, since the Radeon HD 6870 in my second rig (back home at my parents' place) has finally given up the ghost but I wanna do at least a bit of gaming when I'm back home during the uni break in summer. In the Netherlands (where I live), GTX 1080 ti's seem to be easy to get your hands on, however there is a lot of scammers on marktplaats (kinda like craigslist or kijiji for you Canadians out there). So I found a dude (let's call him William) who's willing to sell me a 1080ti for cheap, we text back and forth, I ask the usual stuff like Have you ever overclocked it? ; Has it been used for mining? and Do you still have the receipt/warranty?. Turns out, apparently (and I'm inclined to believe him, he sent me some videos) his uncle is this rich tech guy who has like a whole mining operation and stuff. Said uncle gave him five (!) 1080ti's that he (the uncle) bought but then allegedly ended up not needing, so he gave them to his nephew who wanted to game. Makes sense I guess. William of course doesn't have a receipt or an original box or anything. William did however agree on coming to my place to let me test the card(s) in my own personal rig (why not his place? idk, I think he only has five 1080ti's, not the rest of the rig). He also came across like a reasonably trustworthy guy. Poor dude just doesn't know what to do with five graphics cards. Now my worry is that the graphics cards have actually been used for mining and the uncle simply didn't tell William (or he lied to me, but let's believe in the good in people for now). From the pictures it looks like the fans/heatsink on the cards (MSI 1080ti Gaming X) are actually unused. However, even if they are, uncle could have just used an aftermarket cooler and put the original heatsink back on. Is there a sure-fire way for me to tell whether that's the case? Or to see immediately that it's unused? I was thinking look at the PCB to see colouration, cuz I've heard that the heat from mining can cause those. Or looking at the screws of the fan etc. I have attached the picture he sent me. They do look new, but they might have been cleaned... Or do I just have to hope that he's not trying to get me to buy a card used for mining? Mind you, I am no expert on this stuff. I can build my own PC no problem, but I've never changed a GPU cooler before... TLDR: Guy trying to sell me a GTX 1080 ti without original box or receipt, he says it's new, I'm afraid it was used for mining (maybe with an aftermarket (water-)cooler) and cleaned up. How can I tell? Thanks a lot in advance, sorry for the wall of text. Picture in spoiler.
  14. Hey folks, I´m a newbie in this forum, but not quite when it comes to PCs. I recently discovered a lot of errors with my video card (GTX 1080TI with Watercooling). When playing any game, the program will suddenly stop and sometimes display a driver error, but when used normally (Desktop/Youtube) it works just fine. First, I thought about a driver problem, because I updated it not long ago, but after multiple up and downgrades and a windows 10 reinstallation, it would still occur. Even more I than proceeded to use Fur Mark. It runs normally and does not crash whether I use the Burn Test, or the 4k Preset. To me personally this was a good sign. After continuing the testing with 3DMark TimeSpy I figured out, that it might be an API problem with DirectX, but Minecraft with good shaders will also crash. I went on by increasing the voltage using MSI Afterburner. -> no change Then I increased the power limit. -> Fur Mark dies and my PCs shows me pictures of a drug trip.... But after a reboot it will continue to work just fine, if not used for gaming. I really hope that my GPU isn´t dead...I have no warranty and only have had this card for 5 months. I am from Germany so I´m already sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes. Hope u can help me Best regards Lukas Thomann
  15. AMD Ryzen 7 1800X + GTX 1080Ti future of gaming? Is this a new peak of gaming?
  16. Just bought the GPU last weekend, noticed the idle temps are very high at 55-56c on average. Before this I owned a Strix GTX 1080 Advance, the temps were slightly lower at 50-52c without the fans turning on. (Note that both GPUs have 0dB fan profile turned on) Now my fans are turning even at 0dB fan profile and when I turn off the setting, the fans would ramp up to 100% immediately. The core clock is constant at 1569Mhz on all software monitors except for Asus Tweak II which show 659Mhz constant at idle. Under load, the temps and the clock are very impressive. No complains there. The idle state of this card is what worries me. Will it affect the performance down the road, like having high temps all the time? Just need to verify on this. Thanks/
  17. I have two 1080tis on my computer and 2 Dell 27"4k monitor connected to one of them, and one day my monitors just went black, no sound came out of my speakers or even headphones. I wasn't updating or doing anything in particular, they just went black. I tried restarting a bunch of times and finally the only thing that worked was connecting my monitors to my second GPU, but I am afraid that this happens again with this GPU. And today another weird thing happened where youtube videos would play a blank green screen, after a restart everything came back to normal. I'm sure both GPUs are working fine because I used them for GPU Rendering with Octane Render inside Cinema 4D but I can't connect any of my monitors to the first GPU if I do, both monitors go black, and I lose sound. 19. Hey guys, I'm planning to do a 3D rendering/modelling/animation workstation build very soon, including a gtx 1080 ti, and a ryzen 7 1800. I'd like a new monitor, the one I have right now is severely problematic for the work I do, colors are horrible, screen is too small, and the refresh rate is iffy. Also, it is small, I'd like to work on a bigger monitor than 21 and a third inch. I don't want a curved screen, or any wide screen for that matter. I simply don't have enough space. a 25 to 27 inch monitor would be a good fit. HDR is not really a concern of mine, I don't need it as far as I can tell. My budget is around 400 to 500 euro for this monitor. (600 maybe if it's really good, but I don't really know monitor prices) Things I search for in this monitor: - Good color support - some usb ports would be nice - a good refresh rate (maybe 144 Hz?) - IPS or something that'll keep things looking ok from different viewing angles - 25 to 27 inch diagonal screen size Further questions I have: - 4K? Yes? No? Maybe? - How much color space do you really need? - Refresh rate, does it matter for content creation/ergonomics? (I'd like quite a bit less eye strain pls) Thanks in advance!
  20. I was looking to upgrade my sli Asus GTX 780's Direct CU II to their new ROG Strix 1080ti. I haven't been able to buy the Strix 1080ti OC that goes for $780 USD since its always out of stock. But the Strix 1080ti not factory OC is now available for $760 USD. should I wait for the OC version to be in stock or just save the $20 and overclock it myself? I don't know if the OC models are guaranteed to be better overclockers or not.
  21. Hey all, Ed here with a bit of an odd question. I'm planning on upgrading my current rig from its A107890k and gtx970 to Ryzen 5 1600x and a GTX 1080 ti. I'd love to do it all in one go but I'm going to have to do it over time, so the question is; Should I buy my 1080ti first? Or buy the motherboard, RAM, and CPU first. I recently upgraded to a 4K monitor and the current rig does its job but it's just not good enough. Also the Ryzen chip might get swapped out for a 7700k is my budget becomes a little more flexible. Any feedback is much appreciated thanks all!
  22. Title says it all. EVGA FTW3 looks really nice as does the Zotac AMP xtreme.
  23. So Im about to build a new gaming rig from ground up and altho I have pretty good picture of what my rig will be like, I have one question (two actually). Build specs: z270, 7700k, 16gb ram and pure NVMe storage. Currently my monitor of choice is HP Envy 34c. This I have pretty much settled for unless something convincing enough comes up in this thread. The biggest reasons for my choise were the aspect ratio and this monitors impeccable native contrast. Image quality is magnitudes more important for me than refresh rates beyond 60hz. Same goes for ingame graphics in which the appearance of single frame means much more than those high frame rates. But regardless of all the above mentioned, and maybe because of all that, I have tried my best to make sure I can V-sync all games to 60hz, And the question is, is that possible or am I doomed to see drops to 30hz frequently? Follow up question: If it turns out that this build might indeed run into significant drops to 30hz with V-sync, which di you think would be better: Opting for 1080ti instead or to spend that extra money on a G-sync monitor. Bearing in mind that all G-sync monitors are a compromise what comes to static contrast
  24. Hello, I have a big problem since 2 days. When i start the Computer and start playing (let's say BF3) i have a normal fps count over 150+ with a GPU-Load with about 80%+ (temperature at about 60°C). But when i play a while the load drops slowly and so does the fps counter... it gets down to 25% load and really annoying laggy gameplay. (CPU temp sits around 65°C) I really don't know what happened in those last 2 days... before that it worked just fine. And i have this Problem with all games so far (LoL, Overwatch, BF1, BF3, BF3 etc.) I reinstalled the latest nVidia driver and so on...
