Hello, as stated in my last topic (nobody answered me) my laptop doesn't seem to read the gpu, I guess a vbios mismatch from the previous owner. Does anyone know/have by any chance a backup vbios for the GTX 980M (10DE 1617 - 1028 0688) for the Alienware 17 R2? I can't find it on techpowerup vbios archive. Any help would be much appreciated!

So I've been playing a bunch of games and on not one of them have my GPU been fully used. The max usage I've seen was 80%. Checked to make sure nothing was bottlenecking, temps are fine as well. My system is: GTX 980M i7 6820HK 22GB 1 TB HDD 128GB SSD

Hey guys! I'm planning to get a 4k screen real soon. My laptop has an HDMI 1.4 output. Its graphics card is a GeForce GTX 860M. I'm thus limited to 30fps at 4k. Now I know that I can upgrade my graphics card to a GTX 980M - my question is - after I upgrade my graphics card will my HDMI output change to 2.0? Thanks for your time and suggestions.

Hi everyone, I have a Clevo P150SM from early 2014 with Prema mod BIOS version 1.03.04PM v2 and EC version 1.03.01 that came with a 770m and now has a GTX 980m 8GB card. The card installed fine and the sytem boots, GPUz shows that I have a GM204 chip with 1536 cores but some information is missing or incorrect. When I attempt to install my Nvidia drivers (.inf modded) they do detect that my GPU is compatible and starts the install process (yes I disabled driver signing) but fails shortly after (tried 3 different driver versions). I think this issue may have something to do with the vBIOS that is on the card, would using a different vBIOS that is compatible with my PC help, maybe Prema's modded overclocking vBIOS? I know that my system BIOS, which is also the latest available, does not officially support this GPU but I have see a few people with my laptop that also have a GTX 980m on places like 3D Mark scores and various forums. I have contacted various system distributors like Mythlogic and Eurocom but I either get "no comment" type replies or none at all so if anyone could shed some light as to what I can do to get this working, if at all possible that would be lovely.

I originally bought my Clevo P150SM in January of 2014 as a PC I could take with me to university which was hour and a half away from my home. It originally came with a GTX 770M, i7-4700MQ 2.4 GHz which is overclocked to 3.6 GHz (all 4 cores set to 3.6GHz boost clock 100% of the time with custom BIOS), 8GB of RAM, and a 1TB HDD and I have used it every day since I purchased it, I like it so much it has actually replaced my desktop with a liquid cooled 5 GHz AMD FX8350, crossfire AMD HD 7970's, and an eyefinity setup. After owning it for about a year I sold my desktop setup and decided to upgrade my laptop. I installed 24 GB of RAM, an 8GB GTX 980M which is now overclocked to 1.44 GHz, 2x 1TB Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSDs, and 2x Samsung 2.5inch 2TB HDD's. After upgrading to a GTX 980M my temps were not good enough to allow me to really overclock at all, I needed to prop up the back of my laptop to let more air into the fans and the GPU was always around to 80c when gaming. This is normal for laptops but I needed to find a practical way to cool my laptop better without carrying one of those awful huge cooling pads around with me everywhere. Here is a list of mods I ended up doing: Modified case with better intake vents Added an extra fan to the case under the GPU Made a 3 stage fan controller for the extra fan Modified 2 GPU heatsinks in to one larger heatsink Modified the GPU fan to make room for larger GPU heatsink Lapped (flattened and polished) the GPU and CPU heatsinks Removed stock rubber feet and added taller ones to clear the new fan Made an integrated 2 port USB hub for added USB ports. Wrapped whole notebook in matte black vinyl Stripped and painted speaker grill matte black Replaced blue LED's with Razer green ones Added an external 4 pin desktop style fan header. (to cool me) (not shown) Made a nice carrying strap I was working on a custom Keyboard driver. It was functional although a bit slow, but I cant develop it any longer. It allowed for things like macros and turning off the LED backlight after a certain amount of inactivity. I cache my RAID 0 SSD array with 8 GB of RAM so much of my repeated tasks have 26ish GBps of storage throughput. (some games like Skyrim, Fallout, COD BO2 etc almost don't even have loading screens at this point) Most of the reason for the crazy storage config is because I run a lot of VMs for development purposes. Hey folks, I have a GTX 980M in my 18x and I wanted to do my upgrade for windows 10. The upgrade utility told me that my GPU is incompatible with the upgrade. I have a custom unlocked bios from PREMA as well. What needs to be done in order for me to secure my upgrade? Thank you in advance.

Hey folks... before I get going, one thing; I know desktops provide much better value for money but I really would like the portability and small form factor of a laptop! Just had to get that out the way first I'm thinking of this laptop: Gigabyte P35X v3. It has the brand new shiny GTX 980M 8GB inside. It comes in 2 different models: One with a 3K screen, an i7-4860HQ, 16GB RAM, 2x128GB SSD storage for £1800. And another with a 1080p screen, an i7-4710HQ, 8GB RAM, 1x128GB SSD storage for £1600. Which version do you think is best? I mean, the GTX 980M might struggle to run games at the native 3K resolution BUT the 3K edition seems like much better value for money - all the extra internal specs for a mere £200 extra. What do you think? Does this seem like a good choice to you? My only concern is how well the thin chassis will be able to cool the GTX 980M and whether there will be any thermal throttling. Cheers!
