So I am almost finished my build but I have to keep using my old GPU until I can get a new one, the bad thing is that it's from 2012 and a GTX 660. So my problem is is that I am only running a display port cable from the GPU to the Monitor and no HDMI or DVI cables, my question is can the DP be used as the default setting for the GPU as I can't get into the bios without using at minimum an HDMI cable, is this a 2012 thing or a software thing? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, How are y'all? I recently got a PC with used components. here are my specs: Fujistu Espremo p720 with stock PSU (STOCK) Fujistu D3161-A1 Motherboard (STOCK) 8 gb ddr3 ram 500 GB HDD HITACHI PNY GTX 660 2gb Performance Edition. System Infomation Overview is also attatched. My concern is that the label on the stock PSU says "Max continouse output power: 250W / Max surge outpur power: 280W"...... Now what i dont know is if this PSU is enough for the GTX 660 to run well Or do i really need a 500W PSU. Link to the specifications of PSU: here Shop-keeper told me that it is enough for the card and i won't face any issues....... but i'm not satisfied and i dont have enough money to buy a 500W PSU. I'm not playing games on it just because of the concern. Can anyone tell me if i can go with this PSU atleast 1 month and then change the PSU to 500W, because I won't be getting any money till then. Please help.

I just bought a rx 480 to replace my aging gtx 660. I am getting good fps on my recent games(Doom, ROTR, Fallout 4, BF1 etc) and the OC seems stable. I fired up crysis 1 just to enjoy the performance differential between the 480 and my old gt 9600 (with this gpu I played crysis back in the day). The fps with 480 seemed way too low and the gpu/cpu utilization was very low too. I reinstalled the 660 and got better fps. Plus with the 660 both the CPU and GPU seems to be hitting 100% utilization. I am seeing the same thing with borderlands 2, getting less than 60 fps sometimes - mostly at 90fps. I have cleaned both nvidia and amd drivers with DDU, installed 17.2.1, 17.3.1 and 17.3.2 drivers after DDU cleaning each. Now I am just sitting here scratching my head. The processor is a i5-4590 btw.

Hello everyone! I'm having a small issue with a Gainward GTX 660. I bought from a person on prohardver.hu here in Hungary. The seller said that the GPU is not working, windows xp to 10's message:" Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.". The seller says that "It works under Linux" and it sure did! So I guess the GPU is not deffective And it works flawlessly! But I wanna play my games on Windows rather than Linux :') I already did a DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), reinstalled the drivers a couple times. Even did some reflowing with a help of some flux and a hot air gun (I knew what I was doing ) and it did not fixed the problem I think it is not a hardware problem, I'm guessing it is the problem with the GPU's BIOS. I wrote on the prohardver forum in order to get some help, but sadly every tech person is offline and I realy wanna know if this thing works or not :)) So what do you guys think? Should I try to update the BIOS? If so, then where can I find proper "tutorial" about the subject? Thank you for the replies :R - SPECS - Mobo : AsRock Extreme 3 (770 chipset) CPU: Athlon x3 445 GPU: Gainward GTX 660 2Gb Ram: 2x2Gb DDR3 and 2x1Gb DDR3 @1333Ghz Soundcard: SB0090 PSU: Nexus 5080 Semi-modular Storage is 2 HDD, 250Gb and 400Gb Well cooled parts

found a deal on an OK 300W PSU, just wondering if my Q6600 and a GTX 660/8800GT will run of it, just those two, a single IDE harddrive and a single fan will be in the system, will it be OK? no overclocking or anything. thanks for any reaplies and any help

so i have a very small budget and if im buying brand new card i can buy something like a gt 740 which i think is not worth the money. for the same amount i can get a gtx 660 or maybe even a 750ti but im held back because of having no warranty issue. the last time i spent my money on something expensive was a used xbox 360 but it broke in like 6 months time.i just dont want something like that happening again. my question is will a used gpu like a gtx 660 run for at least 1 and half years period?

So the processor is a Phenom II X6. What GPU would be bettrr for the near future (6-18Months) considering DX12 is getting a little attention? The GTX 660 or R7 265 (HD7850/R7 370) Those are in my budget ( Let a 50 bucks 7970 slip away ) Considering AMD cards seem to get an incredible amount of performance in DX12 compared to NVidia (in DX11 they are just rivals) Should i give preference to the AMD card or DX12 wont matter so soon? (dont forget to mention resell value of both on the answer)

So i need to upgrade my PSU for a new GV-N660OC-2GD GTX 660 gpu and my budget is very low for a PSU and the number of options in our country is very limited. i can go with a PSU called IN WIN IP-S450CQ2-0 G 450W ATX Power Supply which has some good reviews but i want to make sure the gpu can run on this first. The image attached below shows the amount of amps it produce per rail.

Ok so the LAN PC 4.5 which i just assembled has two GTX 660s and i am not getting SLI working and i have no clue why. i dont really know how to properly set it up but i just asumed that you put the cards in, connect with the bridge and then you are good basically. and i am seeing worse preformance now that both 660s are in the system then when there was just one and i got this motherboard just because i wanted to SLI my 660s again, i didnt have good results last time but the owner before me had them in SLI working fine. here are the specs of the machine: CPU: I7 2600 GPUs: 1x EVGA GTX 660(top slot) 1x gigabyte windforce GTX 660(botom slot) Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth P67 RAM: 2x2GB crusial slow shit value RAM PSU: CoolerMaster G750M HDD: WD Raptor X HD 1500(150GB 7200rpm) CPU cooler: beQuiet ShadowRock 2 so if anyone knows what the problem might be that would be great, only the one card shows up in device manager also, both cards were working fine last time i tried and should still work good if noone has tamperd with them when they werent used lol also if anyone knows how many volts a I7 2600 can take before its bad that would also be usefull info in BCLK OCing the CPU in this machine

Ok so i recently got myself an ASUS Sabertooth P67 motherboard for my I7 2600 so i could run my GTX 660s in SLI, but i put them in, connected everything up, made sure they were clicked in and the SLI bridge was teeth down(tried up too and another SLI brige too) but NVIDIA controllpanel would only show one card and i got horrible fps in games so now im running just one card in the system. not sure how to make it work but here are the specs of the computer: CPU: I7 2600 GPUs: EVGA FTW GTX 660, Gigabyte Windforce GTX 660 Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth P67 RAM: 2x2GB DDR3 Crusial(cant bother poking my head in there to check speed lol) HDD: WD Raptor X 150GB PSU: CoolerMaster G750M tried both an MSI SLI brige i got with the cards and one i got with the motherboard and that didnt help. not sure what the problem is but only one card is showing up in the NVIDIA controllpanel... anyway thanks for any replies and any help with this

I currently have an FX 6300, overclocked from 3.5ghz > 4.4ghz, 1.31v, on a 212evo. a GTX 660 2gb, and 2x4gb 1866mhz ram. Pcpartpicker. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/p9fBTH its 4am and I'm terrible at asking complete questions so feel free to mention if I miss something. I get FPS increase all of the games I've tested so far (mafia 3, bf4, rainbow 6 siege) when lowering resolution from 1080p-900p-720p. Even overwatch, which I thought was CPU intensive... so I'm getting the idea this is a GPU thing. so I know getting an rx480 + fx6300 would turn it from a GPU to CPU bottleneck, but it would be a hell of a lot better than a shit crisp cinematic 30fps on medium 720p for mafia 3. could I purchase this RX480 newegg link and realistically expect 1080p@60 on high settings with games like bf1-doom-mafia 3-rainbow 6 siege? I have no interest in 1440p or above, because of my monitor. would I get the same thing from a RX470 because of my CPU?

So I'm using a GTX 660 and I've been overclocking it for about half a year, I would notice sometimes the screen would go black for a second or two and come back just fine, usually when the temp was around 80. Just now it started going crazy as I was using VLC player watching a video. gpu load started jumping from 1% to 99% back and fourth, being loud, and switching between programs made no difference. Loaded up afterburner and switched the settings back to factory default and the gpu load dropped back below 10%, is this an effect from overclocking the graphics card?

So i got this problem where my monitor would lose signal from my GPU. it gets signal from the gpu for few minutes (or seconds) and suddenly it loses signal and after losing signal it rarely receives it again but even if it does it wont stay for long. when it happens, the gpu fan spins full speed but nothing is getting heated. i even removed the power connector to the gpu fan and ran for like 5 minutes and the gpu would still remain normal temp. almost not hot at all. and yes to confirm that this is the gpu that is causing the problem i tried running the system with onboard gpu and also my old GT 610. Both of them worked fine. My psu is also running fine. my gpu was quite dusty. i took it apart cleaned the dust with circuit cleaning liquid and let it dry for like 2 days (i used a hair drier also couple of times) and also changed the thermal paste, put it back on and tried it in my pc. It worked! but only for 2 days . it caught the same issue again. where do u think i should start troubleshooting the card? im planning to use a hair drier or if i can get access to one of those heating machines used to heat electronics i would try that. what do u suggest i do?

Hey there im new to the forum but I have a pretty trash build but it works quite well so i have a gtx 660 a i3 4160 and 2x4gb hyper beast ddr3 ram so i have pubg and its been going good i really dont know how but ive been able to play quite smoothy at 40-70 FPS on high settings with screen scaling to 116 but so for 5 mins the game works fine then crash i rejoin then it happens at random times i also play at 1366x768 because i am using a tv but still looks great but if there is any way u could help me out that would be great and i also normaly overclock it to +30 core and +90 memory and fan speed 100 but with it at normal i get the same thing but like 35-65 fps

So today i turned on my PC and it booted nicely without any issue and when i turned on the WIFI icon to turn on the internet my display went black for a couple of seconds and it came back again. I was like meh, and i turned on my game Ryse son of Rome that i had already played several times. even that booted up nicely, went through all the loading screens and right at the moment i entered the game and saw the surroundings for like a second and the screen went full black and completely lost signal from PC. there were no game sounds too.i hit the restart button from the case and there on i get no signal to my monitor. i restarted several times like this and still nothing. the computer keeps working without giving any beeps or anything. i switched to my onboard gpu and switched on the computer and that works. it receives signal to monitor. so i took my gpu out, there was a bit of dust and i blew them out and plugged it back in and the screen stayed black for a couple of seconds and i received signal to my monitor. i went back and tried my game ryse son of rome, went through the loading screens once more stayed there for like 30 seconds (usually the game takes at least a minute to load in my PC)and it went black again by losing signal but this time it went during the loading screens. what could be the reason for this problem. the gpu wasnt hot either. my gpu is a gtx 660,mobo is a Asrock G41m - S3 and PSU is a EVGA 650W

Bought New GTX 1060, will leaving GTX 660 hurt or help ?
uchenskoya posted a topic in Graphics Cards
I purchased a new GTX 1060 FE from nvidia and I love it. But I left my EVGA GTX 660 in my pc to keep it out of the way and safe. Now I toyed with the idea of selling Hashpower using NiceHash with the older GPU to make money. But is taxing my system bad so I quit bitcoin mining all together. Is there any other use for that card or should I sell it. system: Gigabyte G1 z97x gaming 3 rev 1.0 (bios f7) Intel 4460 Corsair Vengeance 4x16gb 1866 mhz(overclocked for motherboard that handles 1600) Evo212 Cooler H440 (all fan slots filled,4 exhaust and 3 intake not including psu) Samsung 750 256 SSD aforementioned GPU's with single power supply cable for both. Is the 4-year-old GTX 660 still relevant? The GTX 660 was a very popular card of its time, and it was still the most popular dedicated GPU in steams hardware survey in early 2014. Currently the GTX 660 and other similar cards from the same era can be picked up for around 60USD used, which is about the same price as a new GT 730. So, if you are planning to build a budget system, should you get one? To find out I have built a budget-oriented system around the card. Can’t be bothered reading? Watch my video here: The Parts The build uses many of the parts I used when I tested the Intel Core i7 920 here. As seen in the previously mentioned post, this CPU, motherboard and RAM combo should be more than adequate to power our GTX 660 without any bottlenecks. CPU, Motherboard and Cooler I was able to get the i7 920, ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 and Cooler Master V8 cooler seen in this build used for around 45USD, an absolute steal for the price. The CPU overclocks well and is able to reach 4.2GHz with the Cooler Master V8, although with temperatures in excess of 90c. The motherboard is slightly broken, as the two middle RAM slots do not work. This unfortunately hinders the full potential of a triple channel ram configuration, but a dual channel 1600MHz setup is in no way bad. GPU The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 Windforce 2X OC featured in this video was the GPU in my main rig from late 2013 until this summer, when I upgraded to a GTX 980Ti. This GPU has served me very well over the years last three years. The GTX 660 features a fully unlocked GK106 GPU that is based on the 28nm Kepler architecture. The GK106 GPU packs 960 CUDA cores with a 140W TDP, meaning that the card only needs one 6-pin PCIE power connector. This specific Gigabyte card has been slightly overclocked out of the box, with a 1032MHz base clock, a 5% boost over the stock 980MHz base clock. Most GTX 660 have 2GB of 6GHz GDDR5 VRAM on a 192-bit bus, but there are 3GB variants available. RAM For RAM I have installed four 4GB sticks of OEM DDR3 RAM for a total of 16GB in the system. This OEM ram is rated for 1333MHz CL9 at 1.5v, but it happily overclocks to 1600MHz CL9 at 1.65v. 16GB is plenty for gaming, and is more than adequate for 1080p video editing or four chrome tabs. Storage For storage, I have stolen the 240GB Kingston UV400 SSD and the 750GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 from my test bench. The SSD has plenty of space at 240GB, and the HDD nicely complements this with 750GB of storage for bigger games and files that do not fit on the SSD. Power supply The Corsair TX650 with its 650W is plenty for this build. Any decent quality unit over 500W should be able to power a build like this. The Corsair used Seasonic as the OEM for this PSU, so the quality is rather good. Case I found this Cooler Master HAF 922 in a dumpster, and it is not a bad chassis. It's not in perfect condition and might not have all of the creature comforts of a modern case like a black interior and USB 3, but for a budget build, it works quite well, after some cleaning that is. Specs Intel Core i7 920 @ 4.2GHz ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 (X58) 16GB (4x4Gb) DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 Windforce 2X OC Kingston UV400 240GB (OS) Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 750GB (Games) Corsair TX650 (650W) Cooler Master HAF 922 Build and Benchmarks A time-lapse of the building process can be found at 0:40 and benchmarks can be found at 2:41 in the video below. The Finished Product Conclusion Overall, the GTX 660 is still a very capable card for 60USD. Paired with a good enough CPU, it can play modern titles at medium to high settings at 1080p. So back to the question I asked in the beginning of this post, if you are planning to build a budget system, should you get one? I would say yes, if you can get it for the right price and if it fits your budget. You might also want to consider other similar cards from the same era, like the 660Ti or the Radeon 7850/7870.

Hi guys, So... I bought a really crappy old PC earlier this weekend, not to use really just as a project more than anything else. The basic specs are: * MSI MS-7301 Motherboard - Also known as MSI Cuba? (Running modded BIOS V3.16 which I flashed myself in an attempt to fix this issue). * ATI X1650 SE 256MB Graphics Card (I'm trying to upgrade to an MSI GTX 660, I've checked the BIOS version of the card and it is non-uefi so should run fine on this legacy motherboard?). * 4GB of some random RAM (2*2GB). * 600W PSU (I upgraded). * Intel Core 2 Duo 6800 Extreme (Upgraded myself from an Intel Core 2 Duo 6200, works perfectly!). * 500GB HDD (Boot drive running Windows 10 Home). The issue I'm having when I try to install the new graphics card is the PC powers on but won't display anything and I get the beep code 1 long 2 short typical of a GPU problem... I've tried the same PC with a GTX 750Ti I borrowed from my brother and same result... But as soon as I put the old X1650 back in the PC boots perfectly fine. Here are the steps I've taken so far: * Flashed latest modded BIOS I could find. * Tried multiple (newer) GPUs. Both with and without external power. * Checked for UEFI BIOS on GTX 660 (It doesn't have one). Any insight would be great I'm a bit lost now as surely this should work?, many people online are saying the GTX 660 is the best GPU available for legacy motherboards. Thank you for your time! Shane.
