Good morning everybody! I decided that this weekend i wanted to do some deep maintenance to my graphics card(It had been running pretty hot) so, i pulled it out of my computer and started disassembling it. So, i reach the GPU and started scrubbing the thermal paste with some 99% isopropyl alcohol. Done, it was time for the HUGE dissipator, even though i couldn't remove the thermal pad that looked like glued to it, i started scrubbing, everything went smooth until 3 minutes ago when, far from ending, i couldn't remove any more of what looks like thermal paste. I don't have much experience with this. I'm attaching a photo i just took. Any help will be apreciated

Buying sli GTX 660 ti or upgrading to something better?
DMDComposer posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Hi, I do some light gaming and run 4 monitors all on my Nvidia gtx 660 ti. I was wondering if it'll be worth it to invest in another gtx 660 ti and run them in sli mode or just buy an upgraded gtx card like 980 or something else to help improve my fps in gaming. I've never done or messed with sli so I was hoping someone could enlighten me if I should go for it or not waste my time and just upgrade. Thanks!- 12 replies

Hello, I know this is a very specific question depending on region aswell, but I am selling this PC and basically don't want to rip off myself (by charging to little) but also don't want to rip off the other guy by asking to much. I am selling my old pc to a friend and upgrading it aswell. So the thing is I have an "old" intel i 3, 2100, dual core in there. And I am going to put my old (from another build gtx 660ti in there). Now the system has 8 gigabytes of ram and a 400 watt psu from some weird brand (It has the cheap grey look to it). So i basically had three questions: 1) will the cpu bottleneck the system (cpu is the intel i3-2100 3.1Ghz, dual core model) GPU = nvidia gtx 660ti (msi). 2)Do i have to upgrade the psu (I have a brand new thermaltake 500W PSU lying here, but it will cost me a bit more because it is new. 3) And how much will I sell it for I was thinking about 250 euros if i replace the psu (without hdd). That is like 300USD or 367 Canadian dollars. I have seen that systems with the same specs without a gpu go for around 100-150 euros. This pc will be replaceing his potato intel core i3 or i5 laptop he games on now. He gets like 20 fps in heroes and generals, everything turned low or off and can't even run Nuke on cs:go. So this pc will probably be better. Thakn you for your time, Kind regards. Vincent

I'm upgrading an pc from an old amd gpu to something better. One of my friends has a used gtx 660Ti (reference) that he is ready to sell me for $80 CAD. Is it worth it? Will it be able to run recent games in a 40-60 fps range with normal settings and about a 900p resolution? Thanks a lot for any reply. This is my first question on the website, and on a forum just in general. So yes, noob I is.

NOW INTRODUCING THE NEW NVIDIA GTX 660 Ti ITX (SLS-660TiGTX-2G-ITX). NOW AVAILABLE FROM FUTURE SHOP AND CIRCUIT CITY FOR ZAR123,456,789.10. #TEAMGREEN In all seriousness though, I have a reference design NVIDIA GTX 660 Ti from EVGA. It's a decent card, puts up a good fight against my R9 270X. I've decided to make some changes to it though. In the interests of temps and size, I wanted to change the cooling setup on the card. However, I didn't know where to start. But then, @givingtnt came to the rescue with an idea. Why not pull the reference cooler off and put on some fans? Made enough sense to me, so that's exactly what I did.

Hey guys just found a great deal on newegg for a 970 for $270 with a rebate. So I'm super excited haha. I was going to pull the trigger on a GTX 960 4 gb but im glad I waited. How much of a performance increase should I expect at 1080p from my old GTX 660 ti, which served me well for 3 years? I like AMD as well but because of my case, Alienware X51, I wasn't able to afford the extra power consumption of the R9 390. Not being biased here just went with Nvidia.

Im contemplating buying another gtx 660 ti power edition from msi and running them in sli but Im worried that I wont have enough bandwidth for the second card. Im using this motherboard http://www.asus.com.au/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z77V/#specifications but when I bought it I didn't realize it only had one PCIe3 x16 slot, the other one is x8. if I plug a second gtx 660 ti in there will it run slower? If so, How much slower? will it still be faster than a gtx 680 or should I sell my current 660 and buy a gtx 680 lightening from msi? help would be much appreciated.

i'm thinking of building a gaming rig soon and ive noticed that one 7950 almost always beats the 660ti for around the same proce and i have the choice between 2 660ti's or 2 7950's im a bit wary on the amd side use to the inconsistent frame times and it does require a lot more power than 2 660 ti's... other specs of build: Kingston beast memory 8gb (1600 mhz) asus 144hz monitor corsair gs 700w gtx 660ti sli/ 7950 crossfire i5 3570k nzxt havik 140 msi z77a gd65 cm storm stryker moving up from the samsung series 7 gamer (laptop)

Hey everyone, So far I am loving my build (3570k, GTX 660 Ti, 8gb ram 1600mhz) I have been running all modern games at high-max and keeping decent FPS, but when big battles or other graphically intense moments happen my fps drops to 15 or below,. which I REALLY do not want, so i have to drop the settings a little bit. I am not planning on upgrading or getting another 660 Ti to run in SLI, so is there anything I can do to help FPS drops? It is not a big deal right now, but when I start playing newer first person games and the FPS drops will actually effect my gameplay (Ive been playing guild wars 2 and it only drops on large scale boss battles and stuff, so its not a big deal). I havnt done too much overclocking on my GPU, (I do have MSI Afterburner) Thanks in advanced for all tech tips =D. I average about 70 FPS when i do casual gameplay in guild wars 2 at nearly max settings. I always play in 1920X1080. CPU is NOT currently overclocked, but I do have the cooling to overclock it to 4.2 or higher, but i had troubles with crashes before so i keep it at stock speeds. Thanks agian!

When I purchased my Asus Gryphon Z87 I had just started building systems and I was not a gamer therefor did not look for things like SLI compatibility or PCI-e slot spacing. I started off with a low end piece of junk GPU then over time I began to do more and more video editing and playing more games. Like it was destined to be I came across a refurb Asus GTX 660 ti, which is absolutely perfect for the light to moderate amount of gaming I do! Just as everything was rainbows and lollipops I got a little too clicky on Ebay one night and became the proud owner of a second, identical, graphics card. I was super stoked to try SLI out and see what difference it would make and as I clicked the card in under my original card I realized they are rather close together. So close as to pretty much restrict all air from reaching the fans on the upper card. A couple times I even heard the fan blades grinding into the PCB on the card below. They are like cannibalistic Siamese twins. The newer card is just trying to smother the card that I have fonder memories and a pleasant history with. First case of component jealousy. I attempted to move the lower card to the lower x16 slot. I am aware that the lower slot is at the 2.0 speed and the upper at 3.0, but read in forums that it would not matter. This config ended up removing my option to enable SLI from Nvidia Control Panel. I figured they may have to be running at the same speed so I went into BIOS and dumbed all of the slots down to 2.0, but no success with that either. I assume my best bet would be a PCI-e riser of some sort to move the cards further apart. My biggest dilemma is how/where to mount the lower card now that it has to be out of the way of the lower PCI-e x16 as well as be within range so the SLI bridge can connect. Does anyone know of some sort of GPU cage or PCI bracket mounting solution? Any ideas are greatly appreciated because I'm completely out of them.

I currently have a MSI GTX 660 Ti power edition and factory overclocked. The base clock (on the box at least) is over 1000mhz. Some GTX 660 Ti's that I see that I could buy have as low as 915mhz base clock speed. Will every possible combination of GTX 660 Ti's work together in SLI? I am hoping to get either any MSI card if I can find one (mainly for looks in my case), But I will be more than happy settling for another card, hopefully something like an ASUS. Thanks in advanced for any answers. i5 - 3570k at 4.0 ghz 8GB 1600mhz ram MIS G45 motherboard HX 850 power supply ONE, hopefully two soon, GTX 660 Ti (not overclocked) I think this is all relevant information for this topic about my system. edit - Do they both need to have 2GB of vram?

I want to eventually upgrade and buy another GTX 660 Ti (MSI power edition) when I "need it". Im guessing that will be in about a year, maybe longer. I was wondering if anyone had any predictions based on previous products to when I will NOT be able to pick one up. When a new generation comes out (I know there are some 700 cards out now), should I get one as soon as I can or will it be safe to wait until they release more cards? And by "need it" is when I will actually need more power to run modern games on high-max settings at 1080p. Right now I am fine with the performance I get on all the games I play.
