Hi, I am new here. Hopefully I am in the right section. Okay, so I have an MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3k and honestly, I dislike the 3k screen. So I am looking to replace this screen with a 1920x1080 screen like on laptopscreens "dont remember if I cant post links" So mainly I am asking if I could downgrade my display without having any technical difficulties, or wasting my money. From other knowledge I know it does depend on the display you get, to make sure it will get enough power. Will it be getting to much power, and destroy the display? Many thanks in advance, and sorry for my terrible spelling...

ok so about about to drop the ball on a msi gs70 steath pro (970m) laptop. my question is betwwen 2 models they have, the 003 and the 006 basicly all the specs are the same between the 003 and 006 besides the ones listed below 003: -4th gen i7 4710hq with ddr3 ram up to 16gb -2x m.2 sata slot (raid 0 enabled for about 1gb\s reads with 850 evo drives) -1x 2.5" hhd slot 006: -6th gen i7 6700hq with ddr4 ram up to 32gb -single pci 3.0x4 nmve slot for up to 2.5gb/s read with a 950 pro -single 2.5" drive slot both have 1080p screens, 970m 3gb... im planning to only have 1tb storage ONLY using the m.2 slots or nvme slot if i got either one i would be looking to put 2x500 850 evo m.2 drives in the 003 or wait for the 1tb 950 pro to put in the 006. i know the nmve would be ALOT faster then the dual m.2 ssds and not have the issues that raid can cause. some questions: is it worth the over all extra cost to get a 6th gen i7 over the 4th gen i7? ddr4 really any better then ddr3 besides i could upgrade to 32gb of it? will the cost of a 1tb 950 pro be worth it IN THE LONG RUN for over all speed and i assume little better battery life over 2x m.2 ssds? note: ill be making my purchases though xotic pc with the bare minimum and upgrading myself (much cheaper so i would be only be getting 8gb of ram and upgrading to 32gb ddr4 or 16gb ddr3 of my own memory. i would only be getting a single hhd and adding the m.2s or nvme drive myself. (obviously the 1tb 950 pro isnt out yet but i can wait a few months for it, if its with it) sorry for long post, let me know if i need to clarify anything

So I need to buy an new laptop and I'm stuck between the three. I don't really mind the weight of any but it is a tiny factor as I move a lot. These are the choices. http://strawpoll.me/5416620 Asus has a 1080p display, gtx980m, 128gb ssd, 1tb hdd, 16gb ram Gs70 has a 1080p display, gtx 970m, 2x256gb ssd, 1tb hdd, 16gb ram Gs60 has a 4k display, gtx 970m, 128gb ssd, 1tb hdd, 16gb ram if you have any comments please post below.

Recently I purchased a MSI GS60 due to my needs of a lightweight form factor with a reasonably powerful graphics card. This laptop shines for portable gaming, its one of the lightest laptops ive ever had the pleasure to use, with a sleek black uniform chassis and 'hold up with one finger' weight. no complaints there. my only complaint was the screen. when looking for a suitable replacement for my ASUS G75VW of 5 years I was more interested in a machine that had what my desktop replacement lacked; primarily portability. I didn't really consider the screen much at all, which has been my most recent mistake. It may just be me, but the difference between the G75VW and the GS60 is disturbing. The GS60 is brighter but the colors on the G75 seem 100% more natural and fluent. It really is noticeable in futuristic games and fps where the colors on the GS60 seem either washed or overcontrasted. Anybody know of the type of screen the G75VW is running with, or a laptop that has a similiar screen?

Basically I have been looking at the two. The exact models I'm looking at have the exact same specs and are the same price - 4720HQ, 16GB, 965M, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD - £1150 This thing will be travelling with me constantly, hence why I need it to be thin and light. I prefer the looks of the GS70 Stealth over the Ghost, BUT the ghost is lighter, thinner, and has an IPS screen. The Stealth has a 17 inch screen, and weighs a littler more with a (good) TN panel. I don't know whether it's worth sacrificing those in order to get the better looking Stealth.

Hi all, I've recently bought an SSD to install in my GS60 Ghost Pro. The laptop came from MSI with an SSD loaded with the OS and 1tb HDD for data, with a second, empty M.2 slot which I'd like to fill with the new SSD. My drives and setup: 128gb OEM M.2 drive from Toshiba, preloaded with OS and I've almost completely filled it up with just programs. 1tb HDD I'm using for all media and documents, games, etc. 512gb Crucial M550 M.2 SSD, ready to be installed. Would it be best to clone my 128gb boot drive onto the new SSD, or just start loading programs on the new drive and leave the boot drive alone? I have Clonezilla on a CD and external drive I could use to do the cloning, is there a better way to do the migration? Thanks in advance.

Okay, so I sold my desktop as I won't be at home as much anymore...yes, the one with the beastly specs in my signature. So, I've been looking for a light, powerful laptop I can game on, but that also has the horses to keep up with my interest in photography and graphic design (meaning photo editing and occasionally 3ds max, possibly CAD in the future) these are hobbies at the moment, and should they become professional, I'd build another desktop. My budget is £1250 These laptops have identical specs other than the Gigabyte using a 6GB 970m instead of the common 3GB version, and the GS60 using m.2 instead of mSATA. 1080p eDP IPS Display 128GB SSD 1TB HDD 8GB RAM (I will upgrade this myself in the future) GTX 970m So the GS60 Ghost Pro 2QE 247UK: http://www.debenhamsplus.com/DE_MSI_Notebook_10100898/version.asp?refsource=DEadwords&crtag=DE&gclid=CjwKEAjw56moBRD8_4-AgoOqhV4SJADWWVCckwB0OZwGYawvwXEL4e3zCtvmgH_p3Atc17-nuotx1BoCSmfw_wcB + M.2 means faster potential storage upgrades down the road - increased longevity. Raid 0 also possible with a second M.2 under the motherboard. + All metal construction and magnesium alloy make it lighter and better built. - This model only uses a 3GB 970m, and the 6GB model is £250 more expensive. - No ODD and space for up to 3 drives only. Gigabyte P35W V3-CF1: http://www.ebuyer.com/676572-gigabyte-p35w-v3-cf1-gaming-laptop-9wp35wv33-gb-a-003?utm_source=google&utm_medium=products&gclid=CjwKEAjw56moBRD8_4-AgoOqhV4SJADWWVCcfqDqoowns3LwM9kLVulxg7QbbMVmsACwNEHBjKkS_BoCWrDw_wcB + Comes with an ODD that can be replaced with another 2.5" drive bracket for up to 4 Drives total + Uses a 6GB 970m which may help with Photoshop and 3ds Max, and cope better with mods for games like Skyrim, Fallout etc. - Uses mSATA for its SSD slots which are limited to 6Gb/s but raid 0 could mitigate that. - Subjectively cheaper looking and uses plastic in a lot of the chassis. What do you guys think between these two? Which would you go for and why, given my requirements and that MSI is an objectively more reputable brand for gaming notebooks. Are there other thin and light 14-15" notebooks I should be considering? (Yes, I would get the Razer Blade 2015 if I could afford it)

I have the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro notebook and just heard MSI launched the WS60 workstation model. The machines are built in the same chassis, same screen, same I/O, and same internal hardware with two exceptions - the WS60 has a Quadro K2100m instead of the GTX 870m in the GS60 and thunderbolt instead of mini-displayport. Would it be possible then, since the processors and chipset/motherboard are identical, to install a thunderbolt driver on my GS60 and gain thunderbolt connectivity? Thanks in advance.

Hi guys! I am in a bit of a fickle at the moment! I need a new mobile powerhouse for work. I am a neuroscientist studying alzheimers disease, and am analysing massive images (5.6gb + that will be cashed on the RAM) and pixel intensity based analysis, and my old laptop with 4gb ram and intel hd4000 just isn't cutting it =P Aorus X3 http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Notebooks/Gaming_Notebooks/55733-X3%2B-A-870-4701S Aorus X7v2 http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Notebooks/Gaming_Notebooks/55542-X7v2-860SLI-4701S MSI GS70 http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Notebooks/Gaming_Notebooks/56047-GS70_2PE-430AU MSI GS60 ghost pro 3k http://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Notebooks/Gaming_Notebooks/55147-GS60_2PE-290AU SO, has anyone tried/checkout these laptops? or done a comparison before? or has any alternatives/recommendations. I am after power with portability (have a fair way to walk to work each day): 16gb ram is a must, would like a quad core like the i7-4700 at least... power efficiency isn't too important because most of the day I am plugged in! Also would I be better off going for the kepler architecture (GTX 870) or maxwell (GTX860)? Cheers, Andrew

I just want to hear your opinions, anything will do, design, cooling, graphics, cpu, you name it. I'm still in a dilemma between the two and these reviews just confuse me more so I'd like to hear your opinions because I might be missing something. Don't base your choice depending on my needs and what I'm gonna do with the system as they can both do fine with what I wanted them to do for a few years. Edit: Non-pro btw, not available in my area yet

Hi all, I just got my hands on an MSI GS60 Ghost Pro (Win 8.1 64-bit) and have been quite pleased with the machine so far...except for the touchpad. The Elantech driver comes with a gesture suite much like the Synaptics gesture suite, set up for adjusting the input settings and such. Initially it looks pretty limited in the gestures you can configure, but in poking around in the driver from MSI I found a folder that contained a ton of example videos of each of the gestures - including ones that aren't shown or adjustable in the Elantech gesture suite, indicating the functionality for other gestures is built in but not available to the user... I figured out how to enable them through editing the registry so they show up and bypass the gesture suite all together to 'unlock' these 'hidden' gestures. So far the following are working:

I have a MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3K Edition and it has a resolution of 2880x1060. When I run games like Assassin's Creed, I would change the resolution to 1920x1080 to get better framerates. However, when I do change the resolution, the game gets smaller and there are black borders around it. Is there any way to make the video of the game totally full screen?

So i was watching the video this morning and i cold have sworn that ive seen that laptop before. http://www.originpc.com/gaming/laptops/evo15-s/ I did a little bit of looking around and found a different laptop, the MSI GS60 Ghost. http://usgaming.msi.com/Product/2014/Notebook/GS60-Ghost/# Its literally the same laptop, how does this happen?

Ive been debating different msi gaming laptops to get and can't decide what i want to sacrifice in one model to get in another. The ones i am strongly considering are: MSI GS60 ghost pro 3k Display MSI GS60 ghost pro 1080p Display MSI GS70 Stealth Pro 1080p Display MSI Dominator Pro 1080p Display Now i know a lot of people may suggest the 3k model because its going to look awesome, be really cool, etc but there are some pretty strong factors in the other laptops as well. MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 3k: -3k Display, Great graphics and visually stunning. Who wouldn't want a 3k display really? -More expensive then the 1080p variant. On some sites where i can have custom components installed in the laptop, i could have faster ram installed, raid 0 configurations installed, etc if i go for the cheaper 1080p model since the price is almost equal to the 3k model after upgrades. -lightweight at less than 5lbs and thinner than a quarter. -shorter battery life because of 6 cell battery to make the device smaller. MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 1080p: -still great looks with the full hd display. -cheaper, meaning i can have better components installed and come out around the same price as the stock 3k model -still lightweight -main reason I'm considering this is the better ram i can have, raid 0 config, hybrid drive instead of a hdd, etc because of the cheaper price to allow these upgrades MSI GS70 Stealth Pro 1080p: -Other than the size, this laptop is exactly the same as the GS60 Ghost pro 1080p and is also cheaper than the 3k model, and i could have the better components installed -main reason for considering this is the 17inch screen vs the gs60 15inch screen and still being lightweight and thin. MSI Dominator Pro 1090p: -this laptop is a little different than the others. It sacrifices lightweight and size for performance. -almost 9lbs and much thicker than the others -comes with a 880m gpu as apposed to the 870m in the others listed with 8gb of gddr5 instead of 3gb. -base model is cheaper than the 3k model GS60 meaning i could have better components installed. The dominator series allows me to have a better faster cpu installed than both the GS60 and GS70 for relatively low cost. -option for up to 32gb of ram as apposed to 16gb limit in both GS60 and GS70. -can have an internal optical drive as apposed to needed an external drive with both the GS60 and GS70 -much larger battery at 9 cell allowing for increased battery life So there are basically three things I'm trying to balance over one another: 1-Display quality 2-Upgraded performance 3-size/weight If anyone has any suggestions/feedback/experience/etc i would love to hear it. In case anyone asks, this computer will be used for both gaming as well as work and a very good chance it may be used for mobil editing when away from my main desktop. Thanks

Hello forum, I am currently a high school student aiming to start a company; this (in my scenario) means I need to pitch ideas to larger institutions in order to acquire investments and partnerships. Unfortunately, I am in the dilemma of searching for a laptop that adequately suit my needs. I know many people here are highly intelligent and knowledgeable, and I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give. The most important aspects would be: Design (Portable, not necessarily light) Screen Resolution (For productivity and programs) Output options (USBs and HDMI for projectors) Battery Life Power (Enough to run light photoshop use and some 3D rendering in Cinema 4D) I am not so interested in: Gaming Storage capacity Price (allocated about 2500) I've looked at the MSI GS60 3K as well as the Razer Blade (2014), but those have extra power that shortens battery life, and I'm not sure where to look next for great design and enough power.
