  1. Graphics card performing poorly

I benched my AMD rx 480 8gb using userbenchmark and it performed poorly, only getting 18th percentile. I don’t know what’s the problem, I don’t think my cpu is bottlenecking it, but I’ll list my specs below: CPU: Ryzen 5 1400 overclocked to 3.8 ghz (81.7%) GPU: RX 480 8gb CLim: 1266 mhz MLim: 2000mhz Driver 17.1.1 (58.6%) Ram: Crucial Sport LT DDR4 2667 MHz clocked at 1333mhz. (50%) Mobo: MSI b350m Bazooka Edit: here’s the link to the bench - userbenchmark.com/UserRun/7427152
  2. What should be the correct configuration of core and memory clock and correct temperature of my zotac gtx1050 ti oc ( Samsung memory)?Currently I'm getting 158-160 H/s in equihash.Currently core clock- 1607 mhz Memory clock- 3504 mhz Avg temperature is 53°c & rpm of fan is 51%Is these configs are safe or it'll reduce the life span of gpu? Will my gpu last for atleast 1.5 year?(bought it at may-2017)
  3. I FIGURED IT OUT!!! I have been dealing with this for over 9 months with a BRAND NEW system I built following all of Linus Tech Tips videos. The system would just randomly crash from loading a game, all the way to being in the middle of a game and it crashes. I wasn't even playing graphically intensive games either! I had heard that it could be GPU, CPU, Motherboard, PSU, ... etc. I double checked everything in my PC... and I mean everything. I was 100% sure the GPU was fried and it was too late to return it. I had to swallow the pill of buying a new card in the middle of this bitcoin crap at the super high prices! It was about 2am my time and I was going to order the new card the next day when I decided to look for a fix. One. Last. Time. I found a very old thread, link below, that a guy was having the same issues. He did the exact same things I did and then some. He finally resorted to pulling the graphics card and taking apart and looking at it to see if there was anything noticeable. That's where the problem was!!!! The CHEAP way some of these cards are made, was causing this issue. More specifically, there was little to no thermal compound on the actual GPU, it was all on the board on the side of it. He cleaned it off, put it back together, and ..... Viola!! It ran fine! I did the same thing, also with the help of some of Linus' videos, and it fixed mine as well!! Just to note I'm running a Red Devil Radeon RX 480, so this is not a cheap card but also not a super high end card either. Hope this helps somebody save a little bit of money and not throw out their card when its just poor assembly. All credit goes to the guy that started the post in the link, without him I would not have figured it out. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/660409/screen-goes-black-and-gpu-fan-goes-to-max-speed-monitor-enters-powersaving-mode/
  4. My friend is willing to sell his 980 ti to me for $250. It’s a great deal but I’m not sure if it’s worth upgrading from my current graphics card, rx 480 8gb. Any thoughts?
  5. TLDR: If you just need a card that supports NVENC, then price is king and overall card performance doesn't matter. Specific example is if you want to turn your existing NAS into a Plex server that can use hardware encoding for h.264 playback when streaming videos directly from your server. So I actually have some disagreement with the statement made in this follow-up video to the low end graphic card discussion made in this video here: But I'm not flaming upset about it though because their context never discussed my particular case, and I actually think it would make a good video segment as well. Basically it comes down to one thing for me; NVENC support. I built myself a 10TB ZFS raidz storage server and wanted to install Plex (I had it on my desktop but I power cycle it constantly switching between work and gaming boot drives, so I wanted something that would run 24/7). The server itself is relatively low end hardware as it is mostly used for media streaming and long term infrequently accessed storage. Specifically it includes a core i3-7100, 8 GB of ram and as mentioned a 10TB ZFS pool for storage running on Ubuntu 16.04; very much a budget archive for lots of data. That said I wanted to stream videos from it to my phone or other devices while away on business trips. However to utilize this and not peg the CPU I needed NVENC support which as the below article points out is mainly dependent on the architecture of the card and not so much if it is high-end or not (comes down to the GPU being a desktop Kepler, Maxwell or Pascal GPU): https://help.elgato.com/customer/portal/articles/2471964-which-nvidia-graphic-cards-do-support-nvenc-technology- Thus for my 10TB ZFS raidz I went with a Zotac GT 730 that I bought used, but I could have easily gotten ANY GT 7XX desktop card with a Kepler GPU. I'm actually considering this because there are some low-end entry models that are completely passive and the value of the Zotac GT 730 seems to have plateaued so I think I can get my money back on the card I bought initially and upgrade to passive cooling. Regardless what I observed is with my setup was without hardware encoding, my CPU had all 4 cores very busy out when encoding h.264 video to a 4G mobile endpoint. With it enabled, the CPU stayed mostly quiet and...to my surprise...so did the GPU (as observed through nvidia-smi). So basically when it comes down to it, if you're just trying to get a card for NVENC support price trumps all and ram capcity, outputs, etc don't need to be considered (I actually use the onboard graphics controller for my rig). I attached 2 screenshots of me streaming a video to my phone over a 4G connection; the first is with CPU where you can see it fluctuating around roughly 40-60% utilization on all cores as it refills the streaming buffer vs the GPU enhanced version where you just see one core bouncing around probably doing network related processes while the GPU takes care of the rest. Take note, the GPU barely moves in terms of utilization, only showing a 32MB increase in the memory utilization. This effectively multiplies the number of clients I can stream to by the number of cores I have. So in this specific example, with no hardware acceleration, I could maybe get 2 devices streaming while maxing out my CPU and doing nothing else on my NAS, but with hardware acceleration I could easily encode h264 to 8 clients or just stream to 4 and still be able to use 2 cores worth of processing power. There is a limitation however in that this only works when directly playing videos remotely; for some reason PLEX was inconsistent on whether it would use the GPU to encode stuff while using the sync feature (and seemed to default to CPU/direct file upload) and local network playback was almost always a direct file playback. The counter argument is just to get an Nvidia Shield which supports NVENC, but if I already have a NAS or I want to have my Plex box function as a NAS, then adding a $40-$50 card that supports NVENC is much cheaper than the price of a Shield. For someone wanting to build a NAS and a dedicated Plex server, the value proposition of adding an entry level Kepler video card to the NAS is hard to beat. I even attached 2 builds for a 1TB mirrored NAS barebones with 8GB of ram that would support Plex Hardware encoding for just under $400 if you want a slick looking Fractal Design Node 202 case or a 'fat' version of the same hardware for just over $330 if you'd rather go with the Cougar MG110 and 3.5" drives. You can obviously swap out to a different motherboard to get more SATA ports and add drives as desired to you NAS spec, though if you want to stick to the ASROCK embedded solutions you'll need to switch to a 1x PCIE card such as the Zotac GT 710 which may actually be desired because it's passively cooled, making your entire NAS box fanless if you stick with the Asrock solutions. In summation though; I have NO issues with the arguments presented in the videos about the value proposition for getting GPU performance per dollar. However if you just need NVENC, GPU performance is moot compared to whether the card supports NVENC. This is purely an edge-case where I only needed an NVENC enabled card and after digging to the bottom of the barrel for cards available I found the performance for NVENC was what I needed and the value proposition for someone trying to do the same as I is very hard to beat. Thanks for reading this and would love to see the Linus Media Group team give an overview of NVENC and what it's utility could provide to non-gamers or NAS owners wanting to take some load off of their CPU when streaming videos through Plex. Love the channel and will continue watching even if this post turns into a flame on my build :). EDIT 201802171209EST: It was noted in the replies that AMD APU's can support VCE which is a similar hardware encoding utility. This could also work if you're building a budget system from scratch, but for those who have an existing system with an incompatible socket to an AMD APU, I still think a budget Kepler card is the best way to go. Additionally, if you plan on using hardware encoding for Plex (like I was), VCE isn't supported anyway so an NVIDIA NVENC enabled card is the only way to go. (VCE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_Coding_Engine) 201802-400 PLEX BOX_Cougar.pdf 201802-400 PLEX BOX_Pretty.pdf
  6. Gt 610 PSU need.

Hello, I am planning to add a GT 610 to my old (to watch FHD videos) PC specs: CPU E5700 3.00GHz RAM: 4GB PSU: 200w (As shown in the picture) Can I run it safely with this PSU? if no, What if I disconnect the Disc reader and cut its demand of power? will be enough?
  7. Hello! I am new and just building my first PC. No longer going to be a console pled Im looking for some advice that I cant seem to find anywhere. I've ordered my pc parts and now looking to order my monitors. I've always wanted a tri monitor setup! I am looking to have an ultra wide monitor in the middle (LG Full HD IPS Curved LED G-Sync Monitor 2560x1080, 144Hz UltraWide Curved) and two 1080p (LG 27" Full HD IPS Dual HDMI Gaming Monitor 2 Pack) monitors on either side of my wide screen to run discord and twitch or something while I game. Im just looking to see if this is possible to do or do i need to grab another gtx 1080 ti which i really dont want to do with these damn price spikes. Below is my build, im not sure if this changes whether or not it will help for your answers. - EVGA SuperNova 1000W G.Skill TridentZ RGB 32GB DDR4 3866 Samsung 960 EVO Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming Wifi Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Elgato 4k60 Pro Samsung 850 Pro All help and advice much appreciated!
  8. Graphics card may have died!

My system: i7 3770K 16GB Corasir Vengeance RAM (1600Mhz) Sapphire AMD 7950 OC Edition Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H Kingwin Lazer 1000 Watt PSU Windows 7 Pro OK, so my system is a little over 5 years old now and I've just replaced the hard drive and SSD a few months back as one was crapping out on me. I had my system on and I had just paused a YouTube video (funny enough, I think it was a Linus video) I came back from getting some water and I had a black screen and I couldn't do anything with my system. I powered down the system and tried to boot up, I see various colored lines over the motherboard splash screen and then I see the Windows loading screen, then it goes black. I left it for 15 minutes and still nothing. I pressed (I didn't have to hold) the power button and it turned off. I tried this a few time and once I got into windows with all of the colored lines on the screen, but in the 5 times or so I've tried to boot with it since then, it hasn't gotten past the black screen after the Windows loading screen. Since then I've tried booting without the card in there and it boots fine and the system has been usable for a few days since this happened. Today I was able to get my hands on another graphics card I'm borrowing from a friend and with that one it boots just fine, no lines or any other issues. So my card is likely toast, but my question is this, what kind of options do I have for repairing the card? Is there a good thread for this already or a good site that could help me along with it? I just want to keep it going for a few months until (hopefully) the mining craze dies down and prices relax a bit. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
  9. Will this graphics card still work? What do you think? Yes or no?? This is a card I got for free, I didn't do this to it... Also this card was found in a very damp wet basement. I'll plug it into my computer later and see what happens
  10. Hello , I currently have a i7 7700 CPU , with a 1060 6GB card , H270 pro4 motherboard and a 144hz monitor. Im looking into buying a msi gtx1080 8gb x , will I have any issues using this card with my cpu ? Only started Pc gaming last year.. Also is it fairly easy to install a graphics card ? Cheers.
  11. any suggestions to what GPUs to get?

so i have a very small GPU collection, just thought id ask for what you think shuld be added to my list of stuff i want to get? Geforce 9800GX2 GTX 290 HD 7990 Colorful GTX 660 TI WCG Colorful GTX 680 one of each Titan(will get them once they become about as old as the first one is now so they are remotely affordable) so what im looking for is suggestions for crazy cards basically. anything with a silly cooler, dual GPUs or something else cool about them cheaper and available cards will ofc be aquired quicker. also if you happen to own any of the cards and want to sell them PM me
  12. Best Kepler Driver

A while ago with my previous graphics card (GTX 560), I heard that the best driver for Fermi was driver 314.22. I was wondering if there was anything like that for Kepler based cards, specifically the GTX 670
  13. PC does not want to game anymore

Hi all i need help with my PC which i use for gaming. This is a recently bought Laptop(Less than 6 months) it has a dedicated graphics card and plays all the games i want smoothly until now.I tried loading up Witcher 3 which works fine and has never given me any issue until today where it runs at a max fps of 18. I did do a driver update for my graphics card before loading Witcher 3 which i thought was the cause of it. Some other users were having this issue so i rolled back my driver. I loaded up Witcher and still it was at 18fps i tried other games less demanding ones they also had the same issue I uninstalled the latest window update i did and still nothing.I checked my GPU and CPU temps and both were fine. I then gave up and i went to sleep. When i woke up i tried loading the Witcher to see if it was working and BOOM. Working as per usual as it should, i tried other games and they were all running fine with no issue. Unfortunately i had to work at that time so i wasn't able to play. when i had finished all my work and was able to play the same problem persists all my games are running at same 18fps for no reason whats so ever. I made no hardware changes to my laptop or opened a bad file or anything like that. I also did try to end as many background process as i could and uninstalled applications i didn't require and still the problem persists.I would be grateful for your help.
  14. Hi! So today I made a choice that I might regret soon. I bought a Core 2 Duo and a Used Dell Optiplex Motherboard. The idea of the Project is to make a computer with parts lying around and on eBay, and upgrade 1 part every month so this month im creating it, in March I'll probably upgrade the RAM. I have no clue what cheap, budget graphics cards there are on the market. My bank is dumb and limit me to £15 a day (I need to get that sorted). If I have to,I will buy a GTX 1030 or 1050 from SCAN.co.uk or ebuyer under finance and not bother upgrading i in the project. If you know of any old graphics cards that are capable of running small titles or old games at a low budget, please let me know! Thanks!
  15. All the games stutter

Hello Everyone! I'm going to need the help of the community yet again. I had a Graphics card upgrade to my rig in November last year, I got a Gtx 1060 instead of my trusty ol' 750Ti. My problem is, that all of the games are stuttering, for example, Battlefield 1, on normal settings 720p, run at around 35-40FPS, and there are lots of .1 % lows. The scenario is even worse when I try to play some of the newer games like AC Origins. I know, that I have a bottleneck in my PC since... my rig contains.: -I3-4160 -8GB Kingston DDR3 1333Mhz -Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB -Windows 10 My question is: Can my CPU bottleneck my GPU SO HARD, that it's so limited, or do I just not have enough RAM to run modern day games? Is it even possible that my GPU is underperforming? I can happily provide more info, if needed. Thanks for everyone in advance.
  16. Hi, I've been recently messing around with my 1080 once again and have been running into some weird issues with the card locking up and stuttering bad when running something like unigine. Its a decent OC but I've seen lots of people run the same settings without a problem. Mine are as followed. Core Voltage: 0-100% (Adjusting it seems to do nothing to the card) Power Limit: 121% Temp Limit:85C Core:+85 Memory:+575 Fan Speed:60% (I'm trying to hit a stable 2050Mhz on the core by the way.) The behavior I have been noticing upon watching it in both GPU-Z and Afterburners charts is that it hits the point where it cuts out at about 75% TDP and around ~1.05Vs before jumping down to around 1300Mhz on the core and ~700mV on the voltage. It also seems to happen once the card hits 70C for some odd reason. Am I having a issue with supplying enough power (650W PSU) to the card or is it something else like a bad card? Any help would be appreciated. Also, the GPU-Z card for it. http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/18/02/11/atv.png Other info: CPU: i7 4790k @ 4.6Ghz MB: MSI Gaming 5 PSU: 650W SuperNova
  17. I have a system running an intel I7-2600 cpu (also 16 gigs ddr3), and am saving for the best gpu that won't get bottlenecked by this several years old system. Do you guys think it'll be okay, or should i settle for 1060? do you think i could go even further with a gtx 1080? thanks in advance
  18. Hi, so I have a MacBook Pro Late 2012 Retina (A1398) and I'm planning to use an EGPU with it so I can play better games using bootcamp. Currently, what I have/ordered is: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072L9QTZT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (EGPU box) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MQ26QIY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (Thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 1 converter) Thunderbolt 1 cable And a ZOTAC GTX 1050ti (An external display, HDMI Cable) MacBook Pro Late 2012 Retina (A1398) So I was wondering if I put all of these together will it work and what troubles may I have to go through getting it to work. For example, my MacBook supports only thunderbolt one which has a transfer speed of 10gb/s but the EGPU box uses thunderbolt3 which is 40gb/s. Would this be compatible if I use a converter? Does a graphics card really need more than 10gb/s? When I plug everything in will my computer recognize it when I use WINDOWS that I installed via bootcamp? Is there anything that I need to be aware of when working with these or anything else that I may need. I've been getting many mixed answers about this, but nothing specific for my specific model. (No, I do not care that this is supposedly a "waste" of money, I just want to know if it works or not and if there might be any problems with this)
  19. I need Graphic card

I am getting a (z370 evga auras gaming 5) mother board and was wondering if the (rx550 4gb )graphic card would work with it thanks I appreciate all the answers
  20. Hi I'm gonna build a pc with AMD ryzen 3 1200 for my regular task like listening song, watching videos, and internet browsing etc. I decided I'll use GIGABYTE GA- A320 H2 motherboard, 8/4 gb ddr4 ram. Now my question is can I use my old GIGABYTE GT 710 ddr3 graphics card in this build? Thanks in advance ☺☺
  21. Hi all! I am currently putting together a PC for a friend and his use case is high end graphics rendering and designing in a professional environment. The PC I have currently put together consists of a Threadripper and the confusion comes in with the GPU choice. I don't know if a Titan X or a GTX 1080ti for a GPU choice. Let me know what you think. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day!
  22. Asus Strix GTX 1080 CAD $894.99

One late night while browsing the net I notice an amazing deal for a Asus Strix GTX 1080 on Bestbuy.ca. It was an unbelievable price of CAD$894.99! So I purchased without hesitation and went to bed. When I woke up the next day I noticed that my credit card had a pending transaction for the item - Great! It’s being shipped, I thought to myself. Later that day I receive an email from Bestbuy. “Unfortunately this item has been priced incorrectly. We apologize for this inconvenience and will be cancelling and refunding your order shortly.“ At this point I looked closer at the purchase. I then noticed that this item was being sold and shipped from Mike’s Computer Shop, a local company. I contacted Bestbuy Canada’s head office hoping they would do the right thing and honor the advertised price. They told me they will look into it. Few days later, an “Executive Resolution Associate of Customer Experience” replied “We just received a reply from Mike's Computer that they are within the terms and condition and have the right to cancel as the item was not shipped and you haven't been charged.” Maybe I’m just naïve thinking that either a big retailer would honor their prices or I would get a 1080 for $894.99. Now I’m sad.

  24. Difference between 1080 and 1080ti

I am building my first custom rig and couldn't be happier, but I have this particular GPU in mind for my new rig and I'm starting to notice a lot more of the Ti units around. I don't know much about the differences between a normal 1080 and 1080ti gpu. Could someone possibly explain it all to me and then tell me if upgrading my pick to a 1080ti is a good idea? Current rig: ASRock Extreme 4 Z370 mobo Corsair H100i v2 Liquid cooling Intel i7 8700k 3.7Hz 6 core processor G.Skill Ripjaws V 16gb(2 x 8gb sticks) DDR4 3333 Sandisk SSD Plus 240gb SeaSOnic 550w 80+ gold psu 1tb HDD and possibly a Asus ROG Strix 1080 8gb gpu
