  1. I didn't see anyone else post this today, so let me know if it's a repost. Powercolor has released their newest Red Devil card, the Red Devil Vega 64. It's been reported on several sites and listed on others for preorder - such as Overclockers uk (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/powercolor-radeon-rx-vega-64-devil-8gb-hbm2-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-190-pc.html) It's got a 1417 base clock - a pretty good improvement over the 1247 of the stock 64 air cooled. And wow is it huge.. It's got three fans cooling a giant aluminium heatsink, and it 's (reported to be, this is likely inaccurate) 283mm wide, 40mm tall and 130mm deep. I assume the massive heatsink is to compensate for the ridiculous powerdraw of this card on top of the 200mhz overclock. As for how many slots this thing will take up - it's unclear. Some reports state it's a 2.5 slot card, WCCFTech state it's a huge 3slot card, however the specs on Overclockers.co.uk state it's only a two slot card - which I find improbable at best. EDIT: The measurements given are from Overclockers, the website who listed this card. This is (almost certainly) inaccurate - retailers tend to copy + paste descriptions rather than use their own.

  3. 580 8GB or 1060 6GB

Hey all. So I've been planning my build for a year or so now and will probably be building some time in the first half of next year. I'm aware that Zen 2 and Volta are both coming out around then, but I was curious about this right now. My local store (MSY) has the Asus ROG Strix GTX 1060 6GB for $489 AUD, and the Asus ROG Strix RX 580 8GB for the same price. I was originally going with the 1060 but then saw the price drop on the 580 today. At this point I'm just curious as to which will perform better. I find the proposition of freesync very attractive, but only if I'm getting 60+ fps on Ultra on 1080p in basically all AAA titles (Battlefield 1, Battlefront 2 (don't start), and especially Star Citizen are all titles I plan on playing a lot of). They both look identical, and appear to have identical coolers (so I suppose cooling wouldn't be a difference), but I'm more interested in performance and lifetime, as I probably won't upgrade my GPU for at least 2 or 3 years after I've built. And bear in mind, if Volta is good I will probably go with that in future, I'm just interested in what's best right now. 4. Hello all! I was wondering what is the best gpu for 1440p 144hz gaming, I'm currently at a 1070 and I wasn't sure if I needed to upgrade or stay with my card? Thank you for your time!
  5. Hello! I would just like someone who understands Computers to tell me which graphics card of these two are better in performance in game? 1. Graphics Card: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-RX-580-GAMING-8G/dp/B06Y19NMP3/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1511460479&sr=1-3&keywords=rx+570&refinements=p_36%3A20000-30000%2Cp_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A6066318011 2. Graphics Card: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I5O5AP2/ref=psdc_284822_t4_B01JHQT1SE And could you give me a benchmark please for these two graphics cards (Grand Theft Auto 5) if it isn't a problem... I would need a reply as fast as you can! I appreciate every reply! Thanks for helping me out! Have a nice day! Best Regards!
  6. So, I need some advice here. I bought a new pc in September. Randomly six days while playing overwatch during menu(uncapped fps,no vsync, obviously in games like those) there was random glitches on screen and pixilation. I had to hard reset pc as it wouldn't respond. No display on the port I was using on the GPU, I switched ports(DP 1 to DP2, etc), it worked fine till bios then again that pixilation and freeze till I ran out of all ports on gpu. New RMA comes 2 weeks later. Same issue after a week. New RMA comes 2 weeks later, this one has weird glitching on unigine heaven out of the box but no display freezing and pc continues to work. ( Tried different drivers, using DDU to uninstall, and Vbios flashes didn't do jack) So my question is, is the batch of GPUs I am getting bad or could it be a PSU problem, or could it be a motherboard(since gigabyte upgraded my purchased gaming 5 mobo to a "oem" gaming 7)? Specifications for reference:- PSU - Corsair RM750x (heard it was really great and a far cry from the "bad" RM series) Motherboard - Gigabyte Aorus Z270 gaming 7(I originally bought a gaming 5 but it was scratched inside the box and once I sent it back they gave me this, claiming it was an OEM version hence didn't come with a box) GPU - Aorus Gtx 1080 ti (non -extreme) Processor - 7700k(Oced to 4.8 Ghz) RAM - 16 GB (8x2) Corsair Vengeance RGB 3000 MHZ ( Oced to 3200MHZ) So what could be the culprit a bad luck with a bad batch of GPU's, the replaced(upgraded) motherboard, the power supply? PS: I haven't had any issues with random restarts and all which typically indicate a bad psu so I am really confused why me PPS: There is a 132 Kv line around 20 metres from my room, could that cause some issues with its EM field(I know it isn't good for people to live so close to those but no other option atm )
  7. Computer Specs: - CPU: Ryzen 5 1500x - Mobo: B350 MSI Tomahawk - RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1x8GB 2400Hz - GPU: R9 280x, then switched to Radeon HD 6670 - Storage: Samsung Evo 850 250GB SSD, Barracuda 7200 RPM 1 TB HDD - PSU: Corsair CX builder 500 Watt - OS: Windows 10 Pro My Computer was booting with red bars, and then taking me to the Windows Recovery screen and telling me there was a problem booting into Windows. The red bars initially just came up after playing a game, as soon as the computer started posting, the red bars look like this. I restarted multiple times each time windows was trying to diagnose the problem and taking me into recovery, but everytime nothing helped. I booted into safe mode, and the red bars were still there, but Windows loaded and green vertical bars showed up before crashing. I tried unplugging HDD and SSD or just having no boot drive, the red bars stayed there. Then I switched PCI slots for my second slot, same results. I changed the R9 280x with a Radeon HD 6670 card, and windows booted up just fine so now I think the card is dead. Both monitors work with the older card, one is a 1980 x 1080, the other is 1440 x 900. I switched it back with the R9 280x after uninstalling drivers but the bars stayed there and change to the color blue with a white background. Can anyone tell me why this happened or if the graphics card can be helped in anyway. Warranty is expired btw.
  8. I work in my college IT department and I've been working the last couple days on helping trying to distribute GPU power between different virtual machines, and what we are trying to use is 2 10 core Xeons and 2 GTX 1080's, running Windows Server. Any idea on the best way to do this? The purpose is for running programs that require more graphical power than the NUC's in the labs for the college can deliver.
  9. I need some help with my setup...

Hello, I am on my way to completing my plan to upgrade my setup, and I have everything from Hardware to Aesthetics. However, I am having trouble in finding a GPU that goes well with my CPU (The Sandy-Bridge Core i3 2120). Everything else in my setup hasn't been bought yet and I have a budget of around $400 to upgrade/have a setup (PC, Monitor, Decals, Peripherals, etc.). I have done a bit of research and came with these options, I just need help with choosing/finding a GPU: I have narrowed down to these options, feel free to add or give me suggestions/what to use: GTX 1050Ti (with a bit of bottleneck) RX 560 (with a bit of bottleneck) GTX 1050 RX 550 GTX 750Ti My PC (currently has): i3 2120 4GB DDR3 500GB 7200RPM Integrated HD 2000 No Wi-Fi Module The Case and PSU came with the PC (it's a pre-built), and I'm planning on taking the PSU and using that in the new case, with the RAM and GPU being the only hardware upgrade (maybe Windows 10), hence why I have no side panel Here's my plan so far (mainly just looking for a GPU): Computer Upgrades.pdf
  10. Ok so I've got a decent laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad T410 with and intel core i5 vpro running 4 threads at ~2.4ghz, 4g wam, and perhaps most importatly an expresscard slot capable of 5gbs raw transfer speed, enough of a pipeline to effectively run a good graphics card externally, and with this adapter; http://goo.gl/wYWJ5s , I can do just that. So the plan is to get a 980ti, or something leet like that, since i'm throwing the change around no issue, the main reason to do this is to get occulus ready to some degree, and mostly to hook up the tv in my room to a better graphics processor than intel hd which just barely makes css and minecraft playable, although they do play to intels credit. once i have this fancy card and adapter combo i still need a power supply to run it. Phase 2 I'm gonna measure the dimension of the psu, the gpu, the connector, and get a good idea of how I want the parts situated in the case design, then i'm going to cut 1/2'' thick wooden peaces to form a box around the psu, and cut holes in the sides for the power supply and expresscard connector to run through, and air to ventilate for the psu, then i'm going to use a thin sheet of plywood as a shelf about an inch from the rim of the box, cut a port for the adapter cable, and some leds later, drill some small anchor holes in the middle of the shelf for wood glue, paint the box black and white Victorian print, and affix the card side of the adapter to the shelf, now painted, where the anchor ports were drilled earlier, so the card, when inserted is oriented in landscape position, upright, like an n64 cart. there are several ways to tackle a display window if you want one in your design. in my design, i do so ill be cutting four rectangular shaped pieces of plexiglass to size, so they can be affixed to the inside rim of the box around the card. to do this ill get eight screws and washers, and ill carefully cut matching eight pilot holes about 3/4 of an inch in from each inside edge of the box, and 3/4 of an inch, minus plexiglass thickness, from each side of each plexiglass panel, about half the way up from the bottom edge in both instances, being extra careful that your holes line up, then with holes drilled i'm going to put the washers over the screws and screw each panel to the wood. next i'm gonna use some silicone caulk to affix the outside edges, and inside corners to get a nice sealed enclosure, after that, or before probably would be better, we'll get a few holes drilled into the plexiglass at strategic points for ventilation and finally we move on to installing the leds, and making a lid, so the leds will affix to the inside rim on top of the newly installed plexiglass, or if you're super pro you can cut a groove into the wood of the rim to fit them under the plexiglass when you install it, but it will make replacement a hassle as you'll have to unbolt your plexiglass assemply and risk compromising the caulk, however you can use a different method for your window by using one sheet of plexiglass that slides into cut grooves in the box and etc. but for this particular build just adhering it to the plexiglass will be fine, last but not least the wooden lid so it's optional whether you use a hinge or what have you, what i'm going to do is get piece of the same wood, cut it to size plus wood thickness, and then i'm going to affix 1in thick rectangular pieces of wood to make a bezel around the edge, so after drilling the necesary pilot holes with my dremmel, i'm going to add screws and screw each edge piece to the lids edge nice and carefully. all that's left is to paint the lid with the aforementioned victorian print, put it on top, plug it into the lenovo, and run the video cables to the tv for modular setup glory. attached is a pic of my setup as it sits, i'm going to do my damndest to fit this egpu enclosure under the bottom edge of my laptop, nice and even. also that storage stool started to give, so i swapped it with a small office chair, and its being used as a footlocker at the end of my bed which is also partly in the pic, as my setup doubles as my nightstand. i don't know how true to the plan i'll be, and i may end up changing it before it's all said and done, but that is the nature of these hopes and dreams, at least i'll have my money up to try. ^=^
  11. Need help deciding!

Finally building a new for the first time since 2010....... Cpu: r5 1600 Motherboard: Asus Prime B350-PLUS AMD DDR4 S-ATA 600 ATX Psu: evga 650w gq gold Ram: 16gb(2×8gb) corsair vengeance Gpu:???????? Cannot decide which gpu to get. Stuck between: Gtx 1060 3gb Gtx 1060 6gb Gtx 970 Rx 570 Rx 580 Gtx 1070 I only game at 1080p, only need 60 fps. Prefer a little more to help with fps drops and such. Would also like max settings when practical. Would a 1070 be overkill for 1080p?? Same question for rx 580. And the 970 would be used, good/bad idra buying used?
  12. Bottleneck?

I'm saving money for a graphics card and I don't know if I should get the GTX 1080. My CPU is i5 6600k. I'm afraid that there will be a bottleneck. Is it worth it?
  13. Hi all, I have an EVGA GTX 1080 FTW 2, and have encountered this problem of changing voltage just recently. The clock settings are perfect and have worked for the past few months. However, now, it runs at 2000 MHz at 1000 mV and randomly changes to 1700 MHz and 800 mV. This greatly impacts its performance, and I tried to figure out the problem. I replaced the newer driver with an older one, but that didn't work. I tweaked clock settings a bit, but that didn't work either. It used to stay stable in the 2000 range and its definitely not thermal throttling because I have many high performance fans and its temperature never goes past 65 C. I'm having a hard time figuring out the problem and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  14. i wanna upgrade at around Christmas because i m getting 200 for Christmas and maybe another 50-70 from family i don't know what i would upgrade from my gtx 960
  15. I'm trying to decide between a GTX 1060 or a GTX 1070. I could just buy 1070, but if you guys know that the 1060 will be able to perform for what I want, I'll be able to save 200 bucks I'm aiming for games like Witcher 3 on High to Ultra settings on this monitor: LG 29UM68-P 29IN 21:9 (2560x1080p) at 60fps. Also, to avoid asking this question in the future and to learn something, how do you guys know if a graphics card will be able to run at the required resolution? Can you use manufacturing specs or is it based on tests and benchmarks done by enthusiasts? Thanks for the help!
  16. im running a asus strix 1080ti. when i stress test my gpu or play very demanding games and my graphics card gets above 55 degrees Celsius occasionally i hear a clicking/snapping coming from my pc (it sounds like when you break a piece of hard plastic. i am not sure if it is my case that is making the sound or my graphics card. i have a metal case so it could be caused by the case expanding. Is this a common thing to happen and could this be a issue. the sound only occurs when the graphics card is heating up and the sound stops when the graphics card reaches stable temps

  19. Hello, So i have been experiencing different types of Graphics bugs in multiple games. I have already tried changing some of the Graphics display settings and have changed monitors. Changing settings however never seemed to change anything and i still experienced the same bugs. The bugs disappeared, when i used a VGA cable to connect the monitor, switching between Display Port and HDMI however didn't change anything. Here is a video which shows the bugs I'm experiencing: https://youtu.be/2z1t5tNy5b4 Here is a list of my Hardware: GPU: Palit GTX 770 2GB CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K (not overclocked) Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77-DS3H RAM: 8GB DDR3 System is Running on a Samsung 840 EVO SSD Games are Running off of a Toshiba DT01ACA100 So now here is my question: Is my Videocard broken, or might there be another source of the problem?
  20. Hai, this is my first post on the ltt forums. but yeah to get to the point. I'm building a small form factor pc with a max build height of 4cm(1.57"). and I though about using the hd plex power supplies. but i want to run an i7 8700 with the zotac 1080ti arcticstorm. to preserve height I'm using low profile waterblocks with the radiator next to the motherboard and air going straight in and out btw. but i don't think 400w will be enough first of all, and the hdplex psu's only have 1 pcie 8-pin connector. i can use add2psu to connect 2 psu's together but then the question is still whether running 1 card from 2 seperate psu's will cause any problems?
  21. Hey guys, TL;DR Upgrading from a 280x. Playing on a 1080p144Hz monitor. New AAA titles. How much of an experience hit will I receive with an RX580 compared to Vega 56? Can afford both, just custom Vega cards are taking forever. I've currently got an XFX R9 280x paired with an R7 1700 @ 3.85GHz and I'm gaming on a 1080p 144hz freesync monitor. This has been serving me well for occasional comp CS:GO and some Just Cause 3, however I've refrained from playing some more intensive games like Doom, Fallout, Tomb Raider and Witcher, so I'd like an upgrade to my graphics card, and preferably an upgrade that will let me take advantage of my freesync monitor. Was going to originally go for an RX480/580, however I bought into the vega hype and from what I can tell it's not as bad as its made out to be, but the strix vega 56 is taking literally forever (meant to be out over 2 months ago, still no time estimate, and I suspect the 56 will take even longer than the 64 to come out). I've looked at plenty of benchmarks and there seems to be a fair gap, but exactly how noticeable and how much degradation to the gaming experience is there? For example: ROTTR - Vega 56 112FPS RX480 80FPS. Doom - Vega 56 181FPS RX580 138FPS. Witcher 3 - Vega 56 90FPS RX580 63FPS. How much of a hit to that gaming experience will that lower framerate induce, especially considering that I have a freesync monitor? Will lowering quality settings make much difference to the framerate, and how much does the image quality get reduced? This PC is mainly a workstation as I have no time to play games during the school term, I only really game during the holidays. I've spent ~A$3500 on the PC so far, making decisions such as 32GB of RAM and four SSDs. I can comfortably afford SLI Titan XPs, however I'm pretty careful with how I spend my money and make careful purchases. Another consideration is that at some point I might want to get into next gen VR when it's more reasonable. Will the minimum specs be increased (eg to a 1070 level instead of a 1060)?
  22. Hello LTT Community! I am new here and I am planning to upgrade my current PC. It is a Thin Mini-ITX. This is what I have right now: Intel i7-4790K Kingston 16GB SO DIMM (Mac Memory) Some-cheap-crapy-Chinese-no-brand motherboard Asus WiFi Module Sandisk 128GB mSATA SSD So the motherboard is really bad and I need a new one to replace it but I don't want to replace any of my other parts so I found this Asus Q87T motherboard that is reasonably priced and looks good to me. I think the motherboard is unable to supply enough power during startup because everytime I want to start my computer, I would have to remove the Wifi module for it to be able to start and then put it back in (Is that actually the motherboard or just the power supply not powerful enough). Now my question about is about the power supply for the new motherboard I'm getting. You see, the old motherboard I have uses a normal DC jack that is very common. The new motherboard uses a Dell charger port for power. The power supply I have now is 12v 10A so I think it should be enough to run the computer (correct me if I'm wrong on that). But what I need now is a DC to Dell power jack if those exist. If there are any other options that would work with the new motherboard, I'm open to suggestions. The second thing is about a GPU. I want to add a graphics card to this motherboard. Something like an AMD RX 580 or maybe even a GTX 1080. The thing is that my new motherboard won't have a PCIe x16 slot for it. I don't think the motherboard will even be able to power it! I have looked around and an option that might work is to get a riser card for the GPU and connect that to the PCIe x4 on the motherboard. But then how will I power the GPU? This then connects to my previous problem, should I get a dedicated PSU for it or just small power supply. Also, I would like to get a new SSD for the computer since the 128GB is a bit small. What SSD would you recommend and how will I transfer the data without having to reinstall Windows? Also, there are 4 SATA slots on the motherboard, what Hard Drives should I get for the 4 slots. Also, I will need a case to house all this. I would prefer for it to be thin and have the GPU maybe somewhere else. Thank you in advance for helping me! Brian
  23. So right now I have a I7-4790k @ 4.0ghz and I have a AMD R9 380 4GB. I want to buy and upgrade to a EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 TI SC thats about $469.99. I want to know if it will be even a good idea to upgrade to this, because I wont be upgrading my CPU to anything better in the near future. Will my CPU be a bottleneck to my overall performance in games. I play only at 1080p now at mostly high to ultra settings at around 40fps. I know that a GTX 1070 is kinda overkill for 1080p and mostly for 1440p and little 4K. But I will be most likely getting a 1440p moniter that is 144hz when they are reasonably priced, right now mine is a 1080p 144hz. Such as: Battlegrounds Battlefront 2 GTA 5 Destiny 2 Arma 3 Rainbow 6 etc.
  24. Can people with experience with these coolers just sum up the benefits and disadvantages of each and help me make a decision? Thanks
  25. performance expectations?

My build is the gigabyte gaming 7 with an Intel i7-7700k and 8 GB of ram, and an asus 1080 ti. Will i experience any bottleneck due to the fact that the fastest pci slot on my mobo is a 16x? If so, Will it be noticeable? I plan on having in 1440p fairly consistently.
