Im helping a cousin of mine overseas to upgrade his PC and i could use some help regarding GPU reccomendations as his current build is quite old. Budget: MYR 500 (roughly a $USD 105 at time of post) Current Build: CPU: Intel Core i5 4440 GPU: GTX 1050 2GB RAM: 18GB ddr3 1333mhz (4GB-4GB-2GB-8GB) MOBO: Intel c226 motherboard Storage: 128ssd (most prolly upgrading it to 256) 500gb HDD Case: HP Z230 (will be changing soon) PSU: 450-500w Notes: He plans on upgrading to either 11th Gen intel i5/i7 or a Ryzen 5 1600 in the near future Im buying the GPU in Malaysia so it would be helpful if i get some reccomendations according to the specific market here. He plans on using it mostly for gaming I'm advising him to to go with AMD since his upgrade path on the AM4 platform would be more easier. Any help is much appreciated.

I currently have an RX 6800 XT in my system, and I'm looking to potentially upgrade it soon. I game on a 4k@60Hz Monitor and I also do some rendering/3d modeling on Blender. I also have an I9 12900KS as my cpu. I'm wondering what would be a good upgrade for my graphics card. I'm thinking either a 7900xt or xtx for AMD and the 4080 for Nvidia. I won't be going 4090 because it's way too expensive for me. Which would be a good upgrade?
-
Hello everyone, So I'm finally upgrading GPU from my 980 At first I was decided on getting the 7800 xt but while I was researching through LTT and Reddit I found quite some people with issues on this card. I then searched for those issues and sadly it's not that uncommon. With that said, on that performance tier I have the 4070 by team green. Now the thing is I have a 20% off discount on this shop which would get me a Asus Dual 4070 for ~510€ ... or a Zotac trinity 4070 ti for ~ 640€ I'm from the EU and I don't know how Zotac is here. What do you guys think about those prices? Should I stay away from Zotac? (heard that their costumer support is not that great) Or should I get the 4070 ti for that price independently of the brand? Your opinions are kindly appreciated Eddit: Didn't express myself quite well. What I meant to ask was: If I should get the "better" brand 4070 or the "dubious" brand 4070 ti? And the target res is QHD

Hard to believe that my last post here was only a little more than a month ago, & yet it feels longer than that to me. Anyway, I feel like I can definitely use your help on this matter, guys cause I can only theorize/speculate. Without further ado, let's just jump right in. Okay, so, a little more than 2 years ago, I made a forum post/topic about the artifacting issue I was having on the gaming rig after I had to swap the motherboard as part of the troubleshooting process. [You can look at that post, but I stated a few things in correctly in it, but it will still give you a ballpark idea of what was going on then.] Anyway, I have an update on that: Just yesterday, I upgraded from the RTX 2070 SUPER that I had to a brand new RTX 4070 Ti "thinking" that the issue was related to the GPU itself. But after I got it in, booted up the rig & upgraded my driver via GeForce Experience, I still have that same issue! [Also, for anyone wondering, I DID use DDU to uninstall the old driver first. And, essentially, nothing about the setup has really changed aside from having a i7 10th Gen now, & being on Windows 11.] I looked at a few of my posts I made in the past related to this issue to refresh my memory before I made this one, but I've given the matter some thought & have a possible theory as to what could be going on. I would however, like your input on this just as confirmation though. Based on my experience that I've had with this so far over the last couple years, I'm thinking that the issue most likely is with the Displayport cable that I've had since the beginning. Because I visually inspected the 2070 SUPER, & upon a close but careful inspection, I'm not seeing ANY visual damage to the pins & there is nothing wrong with the IO on the card itself. Unfortunately, the Display port cable that I've been using which came with my monitor is the only 1 I've got, & I even went as far as to check the end that was plugged into the GPU & to my eyes, I didn't see any evidence that it was damaged or anything. But then again, I don't have any of the proper tools to evaluate that sort of thing anyway given that I've never had any background with IT, nor worked in like a tech repair shop or what have you. Still, I would like some opinions/thoughts/advice on the matter. Is there anyway I can check or validate for myself that the issue is with the cable, or just for the heck of it, should I purchase a new one, try it out, & see if that helps? In the meantime, though, I'm open to other suggestions & advice that you guys would have, but please, view & read that previous post I alluded to first! Also, for anyone wondering, I updated parts list & the pcpartpicker URL on my profile. Like always- if you guys need extra details or if you have any questions, just feel free to comment or message me & I will get back to you all 1 by 1. Anyway, thanks in advance to whomever can help!

Hey there, I want to upgrade my computers performance in games overall and hope there is someone to help my out. My current machine: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 8x 4.3GHz GPU: AMD Radeon RX 570 8GB RAM: 1x 16 GB DDR4 Mainboard: MSI B450 Gaming Plus, AMD B450 Power Supply: be quiet! System Power B9 450 Watt (80+) My setup includes 3 monitors (2x 1080p, 1x 1440p), I play a wide range of Games from Rocket League over LS22, Cities Skylines (II), ARK and LoL to CoD and Destiny 2. In my (not very professional) opinion, the Graphics Card is the best option to replace in order to increase performance since its runnig at 100% usage basically all the time. I just dont have any idea which GPU could fit on my mainboard or power supply or if i would have to upgrade more than just the GPU in order to increase my fps. I want to thank anyone in advance for their time spent to help me.

We are a small tech repair shop and I had a client contact me about upgrading their GPU on their 3 month old HP gaming desktop they bought from new. They currently have a 1660 Super and it came with a 350W PSU. They would like to upgrade it to a 3060Ti GPU, this requires (according to HP) that the PSU is also upgraded to a 550W PSU (which is fair) and the configuratior on the HP website says it is possible to buy a new PC factory fitted like this but support say you are not allowed to upgrade it without voiding the warranty, and their sales department say you must buy a new PC to upgrade a 3 month old computer. The PSUs in the current Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop PC TG02 PCs is not a standard ATX PSU, it is a custom HP PSU, and there is no information out currently (that I can find) of the model number of the 550W PSU to be able to purchase one, and even I was able to find the part number HP say it would void the warranty if anyone except HP fitted it and they dont offer a service to fit it. The HP website usually provides part numbers of different build variants but there is no information currently. Their support provided no information and told me to buy a new HP PC before cutting me off. You could (under UK law) purchase a new PC with the configuration you want, use the serial number to get the build BOM to get the part numbers and then return it within 7 days using the Distance Selling Regulations (UK), this seems extreme and still doesn't get rid of the warranty problem. I really feel this could be a good video for Linus to bring companies like this to light or as a warning that buying a branded computer is not always a good idea. You should be able to upgrade your GPU on your own computer at any time and you should be able to easily buy standard parts to fix them too. Happy to share my research and experience and supporting information if required. Thanks, Andy

gpu upgrade Changing Graphics Cards on my Dell OptiPlex 990
Zac_The_Dude posted a topic in Graphics Cards
My GPU sucks. When I was fixing up this PC from the brink of death, I used a Radeon R5 340x I found lying around. That worked for a bit, but it’s time to replace it. How bout a GTX 1050ti! It’s cheap, but does the job. However, I have an issue. My PSU is 240 watts. My current graphics card is 65 watts which with all of the other parts wattage leaves…not watts left! This new GPU is 75 watts, which is above my PSU’s watts. I know a little bit above the the limit is fine, but this seems a bit too much. Plus, chaining the PSU will require me to COMPLETELY take apart my PC. That’s…hard. So, will I be fine? -
I have a PNY 4070 TI OC. I've seen this done on youtube to either upgrade or replace ram on the pcb so I know it's possible. My problem is my board is set up to take 16gb of 2gb chips. The last two are unpopulated as well as all the little resistors and capacitors around where the chip goes. I'm guessing micron doesn't make a 4gb chip because I thought the 40 series used the same boards across the series with different components on them and I could swap them all for 4gb chips to give me 24gbs. It appears I'm limited to 16. I've checked out what the 4090 board looks like and it has 12 spaces for 12 2gb chips. I think the 70 uses the same board as an 80 being that the layout for the ram could be 16gb. I can find 2gb micron chips. My problem thus far is, 1) How do I find out what the smaller components are? Also, 2) how do I know what bios to flash on the board to make sure all 16 will work. Even tho right now I can max out the settings at 4k and get a little over 100fps, as newer games come out, this won't last very long. Hence why I want to add some ram. I was stupid when I built this computer as I had the money to buy a 90, The price was already over 3 grand and I tried to sav4e a little money. I didn't think it thru and I kick myself every day for it as I do not have the $1600 to fully upgrade anymore. In a slightly unrelated issue, I was trying to update my firmware that has something to do with the rgb as it really sux compared to the rest of my rgb. Upon running pny's program to do so it reads my firmware version as 40.90.02 and closes the program. 3) So, is the gpu firmware the same as the gpu bios? If it is and I can pull this off I may not have to change the firmware/bios. Lastly, 4) Does anyone know what the small red 4 pin connector is on my board? I can't any mention of it anywhere in the documentation or on the internet and it's driving me nuts.

I'm planning to upgrade my gpu in a few months. And i know the cpu is traditionally a bottleneck but my gpu has hit 100-99% usage before easy. Whats a good gpu to keep up without losing a lot of performance cause bottleneck? I do not plan on building another pc. I have a 4k capable display with an hdmi port but i normally play at 1080p 60 fps. My display is supposedly capable of 120hz but no refresh rate change option on ubuntu so just 60 for me. Id probably play at 4k if my pc could handle it. And my pc's bios lacks "rebar" so 40 series, and arc may be bad choices also the 40 and 30 series use pci 4.0 so i feel like taht in itself id a bottleneck. My board is a z390. Current specs: 8086k(no overclock unless os does it automatically)+ 8gb ram(had 16 but slots died). Ssd 480gb, or nvme 120gb and external hard drive. Os: ubuntu unity 22.04

Hi I've got a 980 ti and I've been wanting to upgrade for a while and I've just seen on Amazon a xfx Rx 6600, I don't know much about AMD cards I've been more team Nvidia to be honest, but it's a good price and I've seen it get 50% better FPS in games compared to the 980 ti what do you think ? Btw it's 580€ ( I live in France ) I can probably sell my 980 ti for around 300€ https://www.amazon.fr/XFX-Speedster-Radeon-Graphique-RX-66XL8LFDQ/dp/B09HHLX543/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=23Z8HUD40GNPJ&keywords=rx+6600&qid=1642788956&sprefix=rx+6600%2Caps%2C241&sr=8-2

Hi, I am wondering if it’s worth upgrading/possible for my pc. I mainly play games on my PlayStation but from time to time I play some pc games (in 1080p and 144hz if possible). I use my pc for video editing also! Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card, and what card would you recommend (thinking about bottlenecking). And do you recommend any cpu? (Basically I’m looking if there are any upgrades available to let me improve graphics/FPS in games). Is getting a second gtx 970 and doing sli an option? (Even though I probably have to upgrade PSU then). Or should I wait a year or two and get a completely new pc when the new graphics cards hopefully are cheaper? My current build is: (PSU) Cooler Master B500 (CPU) Intel core i5-4690 (Motherboard) Msi B85-G43 Gaming (Ram) HyperX Savage Ddr3 1600Mhz 24GB Ssd

Hello, I currently run a pc with the specs down below. I am really stumped on what to upgrade I'm having some cpu usage issues when recording and having a few tabs open during gaming causes 100% cpu usage with barely any apps open. I also am lacking a bit on newer games due to the 1070 I used to have a 2070 but sold it months ago hoping to get a 3070 instead for them money I made off it and we all know how that went luckily i had a 1070 lying around from a previous build. So my question is where do I go with my pc seeing as gpu prices are outrageous. i5 9400f Gtx 1070 FE MSI z390 A-PRO 32gb lpx 3200mhz 4x8gb hyper 212 evo cooler Thermaltake rgb pro 650watt modular psu 80+bronze 1tb xpg nvme ssd 8tb barracuda 5400rpm hdd Musetex phantom black mid tower atx case Resolution:1080p 144hz

I recently got a new GPU back in March and I have been having problems with games crashing and multiple blue screens. I upgraded from a 1060 6GB to a 2080ti. I've tried resetting windows and that didn't seem to work. I know it's some hardware but I'm not sure what? Temperatures are fine and usage is normal. I thought maybe the GPU was drawing too much power for my PSU (It's only 600W 80 plus) but I'm not entirely sure. I've gotten the following BSOD error codes: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED EDIT: Also forgot to mention I've done memory diagnostics with nothing found, I've also done sfc/ scannow, and other disk repair tools. No avail. SPECS: Motherboard: B450 Aorus Elite CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws (8GB x 2) GPU: EVGA 2080Ti XC SSD: Samsung 860 EVO Help is so greatly appreciated! Please do excuse my ignorance as well, as my knowledge of computers is somewhere between beginner-advanced.

I was wondering down the line, what would be the best card for price and performance for ULTRA 1440p gaming at 70HZ? (I'm thinking of upgrading in like 2 years tops so I don't mind waiting for prices to go down for the currently new RTX 3000 series for Nvidia and RX 6000 series for AMD) The Graphics card I currently use is a GTX 1060 3GB, with a 1440p Monitor capped at 70HZ. Which works fine for me, since the games I play with friends at the moment are not demanding, so I don't need to upgrade as of right now. Games I play rn:League of Legends, Fall guys and Minecraft (with Shaders). Although, I've got lot's of games in my Catalogue that are way more demanding, so and upgrade would benefit for better performance at ULTRA 1440p, i.e. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Monster Hunter: World, GTA V, Payday 2, Subnautica and Abzu. What cards would you guys recommend? Would the RTX 3070 be overkill, or does AMD have better price to performace for their cards? Are they future proof?

I am planning on upgrading my gpu later this year once prices go down and gpus are actually in stock. I am thinking on upgrading my rx 580 to a 3060 ti or a 5700 xt or maybe an older 20 series card. What will be the best option for longevity?

So I just upgraded from GTX 1060 to Asus RTX 2060 12 GB. As soon as I did it I played game for few mins. Everything was fine because I had enabled Vsync so that was capping at 60 fps. As soon as I disabled it to check how further it goes. After 5 mins game got crashed, closed and system got hanged. Then I tried to boot it up again but no display port. Both gpu fans spinning. Then I put my older card and same issue. Afterwards, I reset the CMOS jumper to reset BIOS putting screw driver for 10 seconds and removed the battery for 2-5 mins. I also removed my one RAM slot(2 *GB sticks) and then boot it up again and it worked. So here's what happened: 1) after that, when I logged in first time after few mins blue screen error came up. 2) I tried 2nd time to boot up and everything seemed fine. 3) Then I installed my 2nd RAM stick and seemed everything is working 4) Then I changed it to my newer GPU and played it for a while. So far it seems to be working. I even played under heavy gpu load for a while(99% usage, 80C temp, 180W) and it seemed stable NOW, I'm really worried about what I should do. Can anyone tell me what caused that? I don't want my PC to crash again. Here's my specs: Ryzen 3 3100 MSI b450 Tomahawk max Asus dual RTX 2060 Corsair CX 550W No overclocking except enabling XMP

Been out of the loop for a while, but if my memory serves me right as long as i had a midrange good enough CPU i could play without worry about. Problem is my midrange good enough R5 2600 isnt even in comparison charts these days . Long story short I've been oogling an RX 6800XT that would come up to around 500 after tax and shipping (lets pretend thats a good deal bc of my country), would i see bottlenecking as in i would see similar performance as i do now? I could in theory upgrade to a 5600x with a bios update (scary) but idk i wanna hear yalls opinion Specs are R5 2600 OC @ 4GHZ Rx 580 4gb 16gb 4x4 walking at 2666Mhz 1080p144hz display B450 mobo Main games are War Thunder Valheim For honor I dont even play that much these days but i still feel like i could use some extra fps so i have one less excuse when i lose or i want to run high SMAA cause im blind and wanna pump up the graphics too Thank you in advance

Hello everyone, I need help upgrading my GPU on B450 Motherboard. Currently using B450 Tomahawk Max with Ryzen 5 5600 and Gtx 1650. The price of RX 6650xt is quite tempting (~$269) compared to RTX 3060 (~$361), but will it be a bad idea to run a newer GPU on B450 since it only has PCIE 3 slot and not 4? Are there any recommendations? The used market isn't really great at my place so I consider getting a brand new one. The PC will be used for gaming and light-medium photo/video editing (mostly 1080p). Thank you very much for the help! Really appreciate it..

Hi all, Looking for some thoughts on whether to upgrade from a 970 to 2060 / 5600XT or upgrade my CPU ram and mobo to Ryzen 5 platform. Due to budget constraints would it be worthwhile? My question more specifically is, at this point in time (human malware ongoing etc) to upgrade or to wait until the new chips come out in Autumn / fall with a new system entirely (cpu + gpu). Specs: 4690k OC 4400 Ghz CM hyper 212 turbo 10GB ddr3 1333 (a stick died) Asus gtx 970 (blower style) Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks

So I have an old Asus G73jh and I believe the ancient mobility hd 5870 has kicked the bucket. I would like to replace it but the prices for 5870s are still pretty high for their age. ~$60 from China. For that same price I could get a used Dell AMD firepro m6100, heatsink from a Dell Precision m6800 (the model the m6100 is from) and some thermal adhesive. This gpu swap has been successful before with a firepro m6000, hd 6970m and a few others. I assume it will work with the m6100. The issue is getting the heatsink to fit. In the past people have used the stock heatsink of the new gpu and swapped the heatpipes. I use a heatgun to remove the heatpipes. That's the easy part. My question is can I use thermal adhesive to reattach the heat pipes from the 5870 onto the heatsink of the m6100? Solder would be best but I'm not great at it. Would thermal adhesive be Able to transfer enough heat to the pipes? Tldr: Can thermal adhesive be used to attach heatpipes to a heatsink? And will it work well enough?

I'm here with my prebuilt PC, and hoping to upgrade soon to a GTX 1650. It's got a 280W PSU and I'm hoping that will be enough, since I have no HDD to use up power and the CPU's TDP is only 65W. Are any of these deals on Amazon good, or am I better off looking somewhere else? (UK btw) I would probably need an ITX size one - my prebuilt's case is a 'Mini Tower' and is a lot shorter than a standard size.
