  1. Hello ! I run a shooting range and we do competitions. and we want a scoreboard to evaluate our shooters. I was thinking excel. but im not sure how to do it. we need : x-y axis circle to pinpoint the bullet on the target. (the target has 10 layers but id like to expand with an out of bound one too) our targets are in packs of 10. with a specific pattern. 1 bullet per target. I want to see scores over time, trends of how the shooter shoots (to the left, to the right up, down...) so I was thinking coordinates. but im not sure how to do it. perhaps a website/database ? thanks !

  3. When I googlade there was another page instead of the answer where I would write a captcha to continue. Below was this. Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your network. This page checks that it is not a robot, but you who send requests. Why did this happen? This page is displayed when Google automatically detects that requests from your network are submitted that violate our Terms of Service. Blocking will expire shortly after these requests are no longer sent. In the meantime, you can continue to use our services by solving the above CAPTCHA. This traffic may have been sent by malicious software, a browser plug-in, or a script that sends automatic requests. If you share network connectivity, ask your administrator for help. The traffic may be sent from another computer using the same IP address. Read more If you send requests quickly or use advanced search terms commonly used by robots, sometimes you may need to resolve a CAPTCHA. Never seen it before. What could it be? What is it for unusual traffic?

  6. Google has introduced a new, increased security option for Google Accounts. Essentially, it adds an additional level of protection to your Google account - a physical key. You can register a physical key as well as a bluetooth dongle with your account. This code generator key will be required to log in on a new device. Codes from software authenticators and mobile phone verification attempts will no longer be valid. Advanced Protection bans all third party applications from accessing your account. This means that third party applications, for example honey pots placed by security services or criminals, will no longer be able to access your Google account. It unfortunately also means no more importing of your Google calendar to Outlook, using the default Mail app on your iPhone or even logging into Gmail on a browser that isn't Chrome. Additionally, there are more hoops to jump through to recover your account than usual if you lose your Security Keys and your account credentials. Advanced Protection is available as of today at the link below. I think this is an important tool for people who need to keep their correspondence and correspondents away from prying eyes. Journalists, political activists and victims of domestic abuse are all potential users of this feature. However, it will of course mean more inconvenience (not to mention the money you will have to spend on hardware code tokens), so I think that most people won't turn it on. It will also be interesting to see what happens when the first law enforcement agency tries to gain access to a protected account by force, and whether Google is willing or even capable of helping in this case if the security tokens are destroyed. 7. So if anyone was following the stock market, especially Apple or Google Stocks today, they may have noticed a brief bit of interest between 9:30 and 9:40 (at least on the Apple stock). Apparently someone at Dow Jones Newswire may have accidentally hit the publish button on an article that was a test bit for their internal system. This test article was that Google was going to buy Apple for $9 billion as a part of Steve Jobs will. The interesting question that comes out from this is whether the brief jump and subsequent drop of Apple stock by (admittedly fraction of a percent) between 9:30 and 10:20 before it normalized is in relation to this and computer stock trading. CNBC Article: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/10/dow-jones-posts-fake-headlines-claiming-google-to-buy-apple.html Ars Tech Article: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/10/dow-jones-posts-fake-story-claiming-google-was-buying-apple/ This makes for a really fun read, however it does bring up whether computer stock traders can be sophisticated enough to tell a fake news article from a real one as well as what the economic implications of these kind of issues... Apple's stock appears to have normalized within a half hour yet that may not always be the case. Any economists in the crowd want to take a stab? Note: If mods don't feel this is news-worthy, they can move it. Just thought it was an interesting bit of Tech SNAFU with potential implications...
  8. What new phone to buy?

Hi guys and gals, I currently have a S4 which is long overdue on being upgraded. I am having trouble deciding what new phone to get, however. Personally, I like the Apple OS over Android, but as I am a Microsoft guy when it comes to gaming consoles and computers, having all three connected is very convenient. I dislike my current Samsung because (a) crashing apps all the time, even when brand new (b) there is a good deal of bloatware I cannot fully remove (c) abysmal camera, even with my very low expectations of it to begin with. My new phone needs good storage capacity, excellent camera quality (dual rear cameras would be a giant plus), a strong processor, and preferably 6-8 GB of RAM, 4 at a bare minimum. Water proof/resistant would also be a good quality to have. I was looking at the Note 8 and S8+, but it seems like they would have the same issues as my current phone if the problem is the OS, and Bixby (a terrible piece of Bloatware and a ridiculous hardware button for it) both are putting me off. The most obvious alternative I see is the iPhone X or 8+ (headphones are not an issue, I went wireless way back when), but I was hoping you all might have some other phones you might suggest I look into? Thank you in advance.
  9. How to do research on Hate Speech?

I'm helping my girlfriend do research for a paper she's writing, and we have 4 of 5 scholarly articles. For the last one, we're trying to find one arguing against our viewpoint, so that we can debunk it. We try to google it, but even with safesearch off, all the results are just sarcastic or a parody of hate speech, without any actual hate speech. Although it's definitely a positive thing that google is trying to bury that kind of stuff, it's making this assignment really difficult. Does anyone know how to get search results (doesn't have to be google specifically) that include examples of hate speech? Thanks!

Last year's Pixel and Pixel XL received what I would say was a pretty good response, though there were many small things that could've been improved. These included the speaker, water resistance, build quality (somewhat), lack of microSD card slot, and whatnot. This year's Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL seem to have fixed many of these things, with the newer model adding newer hardware as well stereo front facing speakers, water resistance, and for the Pixel 2 XL a taller display. Which leads us to one of the main changes, the display. On the Pixel 2 we actually get something somewhat similar to last year, but on the Pixel 2 we get an 18:9 display following the trend of taller displays this year. TBH, I think the Pixel 2 XL is really the phone to look for because of the display. However, one thing that may disappoint many people is the removal of the headphone jack. With Google basically making fun of Apple last year about the headphone jack turning around and getting rid of it seems a bit hypocritical, really. For me at least this isn't a dealbreaker but for some it might be. The Pixel 2 comes in at $649 but the Pixel 2 XL comes in at a much higher $849, which is interesting to see. Normally the difference between the two models is $100 but this time it's a whole $200. Thoughts?
  11. Howdy fam, So at work, my computer has 3 monitors (2 small 19 inch and a 29 inch ultrawide) and I use chrome since some of the tools I use for what I do only work in chrome. I usually have 3 windows open, 2 on my center ultrawide, and 1 on the left 19 inch; the other is used for email and my remote tool. I'm curious if there is a way to get chrome to open multiple windows when I start it up and have them open in specific sizes. I know sort of how to get programs to open in specifically sized windows when they open (with X and Y settings) but I know nothing about multi window startup. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  12. An article published on Bleeping Computers outlines that some of the upcoming Google Home Mini (to be released on October 18th) had a hardware bug that caused them to be constantly recording and transmitting back to Google. The bug is associated with the Long Press activation feature and would basically make the device think that that long presses were being conducted and trigger the recording of sound. In order to mitigate this, Google has rolled out a firmware that basically disables Long Press activation. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/google/google-home-mini-caught-recording-audio-due-to-hardware-issue/ While the Home Mini is typically activated by a user saying "OK, Google" or "Hey, Google", you can also activate the Mini press performing a long press on the device's panel. It appears that there was a bug in some of the Minis that caused it to think that long presses were being conducted and thus triggering the recording of sound. According to Google, a new firmware with version number 1.28.100122 has already been rolled out to all Google Minis that disables this long press feature in order to prevent it from triggering unwanted recordings. My sarcastic side would think that the government intelligence community is probably having a sad day as another new listening device is pre-emptively disabled... At the same time, this is yet another good reminder to anyone that has one of these home digital assistance that you may want to watch what you say in front of them.
  13. hey guys, i live in lebanon, a small country north of israel. a friend of mine will be coming from the U.S. and i was planning on getting a pixel 2 XL from there (to avoid fake products coming to lebanon) my question is: will it work with lebanese carriers if i buy the "unlocked" version ? if not then how can i unlock it? thank you for any help.
  14. So I am between the LG V30 and the PIXEL 2 XL for new phone. For me, I love stock android feel and look and is a big reason why I would get the new pixel but the LGv30 has so many more things that are useful like headphone jack, DAC support, wide angle camera, wireless charging, expandable storage, a lil bit smaller in height than pixel 2 (which I want personally), and the cine video capturing feature. The only thing that is still kind of pushing me back is the software differences. I hate LG skin and I love the pixel android software. With nova launcher, I can customize it to look and feel exactly like the stock android, pixel software on the V30. I've seen good reviews saying that nova isn't a big performance hit but I want to ask all of you this. If I get the LG V30 and do the nova launcher thing, will there be a noticeable performance hit on it (opening apps, multitasking, navigating) or is nova not that intensive that it will have no impact (i have even read reviews saying that it even sometimes makes phones faster)? Thank you
  15. Just yesterday (or 10/5/17 if you're a latecomer), Google announced that it is now allowing VM configurations with up to 96 vCPUs and 624GB of memory for its own Compute Engine machine types on their cloud platform. This is a pretty sizable increase over what they offered in March, with VM configs of 64 cores and 465GB of ram. (3) And if the previous options are still not enough and you happen to have workloads compatible with what is mentioned above, you now have even greater options to use your compute budget. Well, you have a beta to try it out and there are even greater offerings coming someday, somewhere... Update 1: Google Cloud Compute will allow you to sign up for a one year trial with $300 of credit (Annual not monthly) if you want to play around try it out. The downside is that during the trial, you can only make VMs with up to 8 cores and 52GB of ram. This configuration is estimated at $345.73/month if that gives you a better indicator of how much the full fat 96 core will cost. What are your thoughts on this and will you end up using it? Sources: (Google) (Tech Crunch 1) (Tech Crunch 2) This is my first tech news and reviews topic so if there are mistakes, please do say so. This post is also compliant with night theme.

  17. GOOGLE EVENT MEGA THREAD

My attempts to be lazy and get someone else to make this thread were futile. Expected announcements include -Pixel 2 -Pixel Book -Home Mini and/or other new Home devices -New Daydream devices -Half Life 3 confirmation https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/10/liveblog-google-pixel-2-and-more-launch-event/ I wasn't a huge fan of the original pixel as it replaced my beloved nexus line with what is in my opinion an attempt to appeal to iPhone fans. I personally would like to see the new Pixel design deviate a little, at least towards a limited bezel or something. A new SOC would be cool but I feel like we would have heard of it by now. Google Home Mini -Nest and chromecast compatibility allow voice activated live video from nest cams inside and outside the house. $49 October 19th. Google Home Max -More powerful dual 4.5" Woofers and Google machine learning to self adjust sound to the devices location. $399 December 2017. PixelBook -10mm Thin 1kg Light, 12.3" Touchscreen Quad HD LCD Display(235ppi), Built in Google Assistan, PixelBook Pen 10ms Latency. PixelBook Starting at $999 October 31. Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL -Both no 3.5mm, squeeze recognition for assistant, pure Oreo, Google Lens Picture Recognition, free Home Mini with purchase -Pixel 2 full HD OLED display with 100,000:1 contrast ratio starts at $649 -Pixel 2 XL pOLED, QHD+, 18:9 starts at $849 Pixel Buds - Bluetooth earbuds, come in same colors as the Pixel 2 devices, charging case, 24 hour battery life(listening time) $159 Release TBA? Google Clips -A fairly expensive action cam type clip camera with some AI that you can give to infants to destroy, $249 coming soon
  18. *sigh* So I moved into college a couple months ago and got a new laptop because I couldn't take my old battle station. I got a hankering for BF4 and decided to download origin. Only I need some google authentication before I can login (app authenticator, It called it). I had GA on my old phone but it bricked itself a while back so I couldn't transfer accounts to my new phone. I've re downloaded the app and it dumps me to a page where I only have two options: scan a bar code or enter a key. I have neither so I go to the 2-step-verification web page on my computer (https://myaccount.google.com/security?rapt=AEjHL4M83ePebQLyYdBzaXeBjswaOgfFdoha8816EftIpH3j6n3nlq0agtqcDz5hhbx9LKfC9_IDy8X3aKonbr1kP1_jZ9sEFA&rapt=AEjHL4M83ePebQLyYdBzaXeBjswaOgfFdoha8816EftIpH3j6n3nlq0agtqcDz5hhbx9LKfC9_IDy8X3aKonbr1kP1_jZ9sEFA) and when I click on "2-Step Verification" under "password & sign-in method" it takes me to an information page about 2-step verification and a "get started" button. The button leads to a sign in page, I sign in and am dumped back to the first page I linked above. All the guides I've looked through don't follow this pattern. It's immensely frustrating to deal with and I'd be very great-full if I could get some help.
  19. LG Phone Quality?

What's everyone's opinion on LG's quality with their phones? I had a Google Nexus 5x made by LG and it was the slowest heap of crap I've used in a long time, and it stopped working entirely a little after 12 months. It was slower than my HTC One M7 before it (3 years older!!!). I've updated to the Google Pixel XL made by HTC almost a year ago now on a 24 month plan with Tesltra and have been paying a premium to upgrade my phone within 12 months rather than waiting the full 24. I do love the Pixel and think I'll upgrade to the Pixel XL 2 when it comes out, but my issue is the Pixel 2 will be HTC (great quality, but maybe too small for me) and the Pixel XL 2 will be made by LG. I want the bigger screen of the XL (and possible higher pixel count as was last year), but being made by LG really puts me off with my previous experience. If the LG quality is still crap, I'm thinking also the Samsung Note (whatever number it's up to), but wary of the slow updates and bloatware noticed on my brother's old Galaxy S5, or have the fixed that nonsense? TIA
  20. OK guys... For some reason when you search google the website title shows up in Japanese??? I have no idea why this is happening I checked and the page title is correct in the header. The company is using wordpress to design the website. I can't find any reason for this to happen can anyone give ANY suggestions? Please and thank you

  22. Articles The Verge - https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/20/16339476/motorola-moto-x4-project-fi-android-one-smartphone PC World - https://www.pcworld.com/article/3226762/android/android-one-moto-x4-project-fi.html My Thoughts Google expanding the scope of Project Fi to include non-Google devices is great news to everyone. I've been using Project Fi on my Nexus 6P for well over a year and I've been incredibly pleased with the service. Giving consumers the opportunity to get Project Fi on more than Google devices will broaden its reach and increasing consumer awareness. It's a great month-by-month service and for people that don't need "Unlimited" data plans, it's a great choice. Android One. It's a cool idea, but I don't have any comments on it yet and a Moto phone being more stock than normal is a good selling point, I guess... Moto's customizations are great and I wish they were built into Android by default, so I feel that I'm loosing something by buying one. Though, if it does follow some guarantee or protocol to ensure that it is updated for two years and patched for three, maybe my mind will change.
  23. Articles Droid Life - http://www.droid-life.com/2017/09/19/google-pixelbook-chromebook-price-release-date/ The Verge - https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/9/19/16335576/google-pixelbook-chromebook-leak My Thoughts I welcome Google back into the laptop/convertible hardware market, and it makes sense for them to be here. Google has been, as-of-late, getting into the consumer hardware market in a noticeable way. With their Pixel phone setting the standard for how a flagship Android phone should perform, a PixelBook makes sense. Even better, since it looks like Google won't be the Pixel C anytime soon, this is a conveertable that looks to be competing with other high-end 2-in-1s, or even the Surface line of products (I know, a stretch). And... that's about it. I won't comment on price because it is to a Chromebook as Surface is to a Windows machine, a reference product.

  25. Gab Declares War On Google, Files Lawsuit This news is already 4 days old, but I haven't seen any major report and I think that people should be aware of it. I don't know if Gab has the law on it's side, but even if they do, I don't thing they will win against a giant like Google. I find it funny though that Google has apps with malware on it's market place, but not a harmless social media app. Source: https://medium.com/@getongab/gab-declares-war-on-google-files-lawsuit-b8646d5f65cf The actual lawsuit: https://www.scribd.com/document/358992508/Gab-AI-Inc-vs-Google-LLC#
