Source: The Verge Original Source: Google Official Blog So it looks like the fight is over! Bob and his Army have won! YouTube and Google+ have officially split! It's like that hot celebrity you have a crush on dumped their super lame significant other! It will take time to roll out but you'll only need a Google account to create a new YouTube Channel and interact on YouTube.com and further more all across google. This comes shortly after Google has cut features like Photos away from Google+ and made them stand alone offerings. Their aim is supposed to be a "more focused Google+ experience." So you won't have to have a publicly viewable and searchable Google+ profile anymore. This means everyone can go back to leaving completely unaccountable flaming, trolling and belligerent hate filled comments on YouTube. Well I guess that never really stopped. Part of me liked the idea that people might have to check the ridiculous and horrible things they said on the internet. Like how* Alanah Pearce started contacting the moms of middle schoolers threatening her life. Another part of me believes you should be able to maintain a level of anonymity online. Either way it seems that the majority have spoken and Google have listened. *Edit: Typo

This new service from Google lets you search all your uploaded images using terms like aeroplane! Quite truly amazing! But if you were slightly concerned about the integration of personal pictures that get sorted by likenesses, Google's Anil Sabharwal was quoted as saying "It is important for us to make this a private home for your photos" The big benefit of the new service is the free 15GB of storage within Google drive with a paid subscription after that "up to US$1.99 per month for 100GB and US$9.99 per month for 1TB" This is available to you if you are willing to store all of your pictures in the cloud. Of course it frees up space on your phone for those who have not enough device storage and cannot slip in a MicroSDHC. The upload of digital content will be to a resolution of 16 megapixels for pictures and 1080p videos. Those 4K videos on your device you would more than likely need to pay for at their rates PLUS the data transfer charges (from your carrier or account). HHHOOOOOWWWWWEEEVVVEEERRR Having more than one Google account (as I am sure many others do too) the need arises to upload "selected" pictures into one particular account, not a whole photo-album OR folder-container. This was particularly noticed when a picture was taken to be used in blogger, and that was the only reason or need for the picture(s), for it to be utilised in THAT account. The work around as there seemed to be no way to back up a selected series (my case it was only three) was to share the images required to DRIVE, which can be done within the installed phone generic photo application. This then creates the conundrum of whether this app is in all actuality a useful resource, OR just a Google "bling-bling" fail-over / marketing device to sell the next version "yawn" mobile device? It is understood that it is possible to once the pictures are backed up, from the backup service to share across "platforms". However what need then is there to waste bandwidth uploading the ENTIRE library into each account? When DRIVE seems to be more than capable of doing this task, quite admirably anyway, already? This is my first time posting on the forum so please, be gentle.. Source: The Verge - http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/20/6650961/google-is-no-longer-forcing-new-users-into-making-google-plus-accounts Anyway, the article is basically saying that new users to Google Drive, Gmail, Google Docs etc can opt-out from creating a G+ account by pressing the 'No Thanks' button at the prompt. I thought Luke would like this, a lot of us all share the common hatred of amazing Google services being overwhelmed with the poor social network.

So I'm there searching YouTube and the typical pop up comes up with the message saying that YouTube is merging with Google+. I though I might as well do it since it is inevitable and so I proceed through the process and select the option that I want to keep my nickname on my YouTube account. Once I finished it made a NEW separate account with my nickname ( has none of my subscriptions, likes... NOTHING!) and changed the one I've been using for years to my real life name and there is no option to change it back to just a nick name alone... This seriously sucks Why would Google do that EDIT: oh wow it's even worse than I thought... It moved all of my likes and favorites to the new account with my nickname but all of my subscriptions and settings are in the one with my real life name... WTF!

So I just got a notification on my phone that Unbox Therapy on Google+ added me to his circles. Can someone explain to me what that means? On his page it says he has ~1500 people in his circles when I search my name it shows up under people in his circles but I don't really get what that means as I've never used google plus for anything more than commenting on youtube videos. Now I have commented on a lot of Lew's videos but it is still weird to me because I don't even "follow" him on google plus. If someone who is more social media savvy could help me understand if this is a normal thing or what it means I would appreciate it. P.S. Sorry about the Facebook notification below, I couldn't figure out how to take a screenshot without that being there.

***HTC ONE AND GOOGLE+ BATTERY ISSUES*** Phone - HTC One Issue - Battery issues with Google+ Hey guys/girls, having this issue on my HTC One, Googe+ Photos & Google Drive seem to be draining the absolute s*** out of my battery on my phone, I did a bit of googling and I found basically google drives auto sync to the servers has a function to be turned off, I proceeded to turn off the auto sync but the problem was still there, I found this thread on reddit about the phone and how WakeLock isn't even a parameter in the code for the software, in my case Google Drive. The service was basically not responding, something that is only apparent on the HTC One and Nexus 5 so far. The program 'WakeLock Terminator' was basically a service that kills a service, and I'm as IT competent as the next guy but I never like downloading 3rd party apps that are associated with Google, there is just too much room for paranoia to set it, even though it's probably nothing, I still don't trust 3rd party apps. Can someone help me out to come to a conclusion with this? I literally have 100% one minute and then 86% the next, it's basically gotten to the point where I have to carry a cable around with me 24/7 to work etc. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playfulgeeks.gservicefix&hl=en I'm going to try this app (refer above 3.0) and get back to you, any tips and pointers please let me know! Thank you, BDRUM!

I was talking to a friend about google+ comments and google+ in general, and he said that there's no way that Youtube comments can be good no matter what Google did.Period.... Is he right?

Why am i making this thread?: I am making this thread because of two reasons. Number one is of course because i am annoyed about the fact that there are basically 20 threads being made every hour only to complain About this. I am aware that making this thread is going to make about the same difference to that as the petition to remove g+ is going to make to youtube. But also because this debate is Dividing the forum into two camps.. Those who like it/don't care and those who don't like it. I've even seen some people on other forums become hostile because someone else has a different opinion than their own. I concidered making a video about this instead of a thread but i decided not to because of Three reasons. 1: I couldn't find the audio clips i wanted to use to make the video entertaining as well as (possibly) helpfull 2: If i posted the video on this forum it would probably be concidered self promotion. And that's against the code of conduct 3: It would've been a big "COME AT ME BRAH!" to people that hate the new comments and g+ merge...and trolls Which would've turned my channel into a "bridge" under which trolls would probably thrive Something i'd like to propose Before continuing is a temporary pinned thread where people can discuss G+ and youtube comments. With one thread it would be easier for the mods to keep an Eye on it. So there's an incentive to keep things civil. The problems i've seen people mention the most: 1: Being "forced" to use your real name. 2: Being "forced" to use Google+ 3: Having a hard time navigating/Reading comments and replies. Problem 1: Being forced to use your real name You are not forced to use your real name. Google wants you to use it. But you don't have to All you need to do is write your normal username in one of the boxes. Or split it into two halves. like "Tech Swede" There are also some other things like location and occupation which are optional. Problem 2: Being forced to use Google+ This one is a bit borderline i'll give you that. But once you've made it past the "what do you want as your new name" bit you barely need to look at it again. Problem 3: Having a hard time navigating/Reading comments and replies. Really?. This is the argument i have the most problems with. Is it really more difficult to navigate this new system? Before this we had the (show comment) button for replies. Was that really better? i mean really? Sure it was a bit more fun. It was like going on an adventure through those 20+ comments But when you got to the end and saw "comment removed" You were probably also a bit miffed right? With the new system you just press a handy new button. Illustraded below in a masterpiece of ms paint proffessionalism Click it. And magic happens (or rage depending on the actual comments) And if you have a Gmail account you get pretty much instant notifications when someone replies to your comment. Im sure i've missed something but if you add your complaint or solution to a different problem below and i'll add it to this list Google won't change this. They did this to create their youtube-Gmail-G+-Google eco system. And no amount of complaning or petitions are going to change their minds. They're only asking for the same amount of information that facebook already got from most of you without any objections. Sooo yeah.. add complaints, suggestions, solutions etc below. and let's just work together to get around this/live with it alright?

Many YouTubers including PewDiePie, NerdCubed, TotalBiscuit and Boogie2988 are disabling there comments section as of today in Protest of the new Google+ integration. Here is a video Boogie made on the matter: Some youtubers will be providing alternative methods of commenting via reddit or elsewhere.

In case no one has noticed, Google has recently merged their Google+ with Youtube comments - making it MANDATORY to have your Youtube account merged with a Google+ account in order to post or like comments. I find this absolutely ridiculous, as Google+ has given me nothing but more frustration with Youtube when I switched awhile ago. I switched back, but I can see what Google's doing - trying to get everyone to merge to Google+ by forcing them... slowly... Is anybody else annoyed by this? Because I certainly am.

I was opening Youtube on my desktop this night, and i realized that they change the layout to be like google +, with new designs in the side menues, and the same for the search layout, they have not add the options for how many rows would you want to fit on the screen, but i am actually liking it. by the way, i am using windows 8.1 with chorme 32.0.1678.0 dev-m Aura

Has anyone seen the new retarded YouTube and Google+ Layout? I certainly have, And I hate it. Do you want the good old YouTube back? Follow the steps below to get YOUR YouTube account back to normal! 1. Click your email at the top right corner of youtube 2. Select "YouTube Settings" 3. You should see a picture of your profile picture (or not one at all) And a button called "Advanced" Click that 4. Now you should see a long YouTube link, Right next to it it says "Change Channel Link" Or "Change Channel URL" Or something along those lines 5. Click it, Now choose what you want to be for your channel URL, Just type your username in the field. 6. Now go back to YouTube settings, And you should see a button called "Disconnect YouTube account from Google+" Click that 7. Select "OK" And you my friend have the regular YouTube back! I haven't found a fix for the comment situation, But I'll post back when I do. PLEASE Post comments on questions! If you have any

Well, I saw plenty of bugs with the new changes to the comment sections on youtube, but not all of them were actually bugs IN the comments.... For example, this one. I click on a video about Battlefield 4 and youtube plays me A DIFFERENT VIDEO! It isn't a hoax, I can tell right on the thumbnail the video is 35 minutes long. I just unsubscribed to MrSuicideSheep, so I'm assuming why this is occuring. Another glitch is that the video trailer on channel pages never shows up, are there any other glitches you guys are running into?

Since Google decided to shut down Google+, I'm guessing that the Google+ is useless now. So no point in keeping it, right?
