My grandmother has had the original iphone se for 4 years years (got it in 2017). She is on the latest version of ios she wishes to be tracked by/track my grandfather (who uses a galaxy s8), peace of mind thing. The issue is that she cannot be tracked through google maps location share because the app keeps going to sleep, even though during the share location setup it prompted me to remove battery optimization (or whatever apple calls it, i'm an android guy) for google maps. Does anyone know why this is and/or have a solution? As i previously mentioned, I am an android user and have been since 2014, the last time I daily drove an iphone was 3 years ago when I daily drove an iphone 5 while my huawei got repaired (btw, do not recommend huawei, their software is atrocious, since upgraded to a samsung phone which is great), so I am very rusty in iOS Thx in advanced

So about 8-9 months ago there were reports from people that google maps was starting to show the speed limits on the roads they were driving, a seriously overdue feature as such things have been on dedicated GPS and competing GPS apps for years. It has been months since the first reports came out and so far neither me or anyone I know has had google maps start showing a speed limit indicator. Did google just quietly kill this feature or is it something that is still slowly being rolled out?

So i got the e-mail about vessel's replacement the floatplane club and i noticed their address was at the bottom. This prompted me to do a google search since i lost the address after using it to go to the meet up. turns out linus media group is listed in google maps and anyone can just google search and find the office. So this prompts the question are we allowed to show up at the office? which i think is a no. However if we bring pizza or some other form of bribe would that be an acceptable arrangement so to speak. Also whats Linus's least favorite pizza?

Google Maps is stuttering when panning around, in satellite and normal map views. Looking at task manager my CPU spikes to 100% usage very quickly, then goes down again. Literally no other applications open except Google Chrome. Two tabs open. Update - Little to no stuttering when using Google Maps in Edge.

Is there any official way to find a midpoint in Google Maps e.g. I want to open new offices and I want to see which is the most convenient for everyone to get there, taking into consideration the traffic.

Summary Google has started to roll out updates to its very popular navigation software, Google Maps. The first, most noticeable update is the new color-mapping algorithm. As you can see from the image above, the colors on the updated maps are more vibrant and it is much easier to see the different features. If you want more comparisons, go to The Verge (linked below). This will be coming to all users in the coming weeks. The other update is more detailed streets. You will now be able see more precise locations and other street features like crosswalks and pedestrian islands. Take a look at the image below to see some changes. This will start in New York, San Francisco, and London in the next few months and eventually to all cities around the world. Quotes My thoughts Nothing too major but it is cool to see how detailed they can get these maps. Im guessing the updated streets will take many years to reach every city but will hopefully come to most major ones in a year or two. It really is cool to see how much more detail they can get in these maps without even needing to change the satellites used. Back in 2004 I was a call center agent. People would call with questions and issues and you would assist them for a monthly salary. In 2008 I worked in administration for an institution and people would also contact us with questions and I would provide relevant information... for a salary. Maybe I'm old fashioned but, excited as I was to submit pictures and reviews for local businesses in Google Maps, I quickly realized Google Maps was trying to enslave me. It started happening recently after I bought a new Android phone -I rather not disclose the phone I replaced- and began receiving alerts telling me I was in a coffee shop and asking for pictures and reviews. I was delighted to provide them. Your pictures are popular! an email would inform. Would you like to contribute some more? After a week, I actually didn't want to contribute anymore but Google insisted. "You are near a business" -I was one block away- "help the world see it with a picture!" Nah, thank you. "You are near a business"... After a few days I started getting questions. "Somebody has asked a question about the coffee shop. Do you want to help them?" So now I'm supposed to be a mobile, always ready call center agent again FOR FREE!? Am I the only one that thinks that answering questions about a business is and should forever remain a paid job? Or should I just give in and accept I am Google Maps Support, my name is Jerónimo, how can I help you today?

I need to get latitude/longitude coordinates for a list of addresses. I figured I could just import my addresses into Google MyMaps from Google Sheets and then download a new file as .KML which would have the coordinated but that didn't work out. It turns out the .KML (which is just a renamed .XML) doesn't have the coordinates. It seems to me, google only includes the coordinates data for points that were manually added by clicking the map and not if they were imported in bulk. For the bulk data, there's only the info I uploaded myself. Is there some other service that gives you coordinates for addresses or is there a way to force MyMaps to do this? EDIT: I found Google's API for this: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/geocoding/start?csw=1 Looks like it'll take a line or two of code, which is a line or two more than what I have time for now. So, i wanted to look up something on maps and went to use bing maps. It then suggested that I try the new preview bing maps. Heck YEA! why not? It's different and neat from the previous version. Anyone have some suggestions for an alternative to Nokia Maps or Nokia Drive on Android? I can't seem to get Google Maps to work the way I want (i.e. just driving around with my location and speed shown like a minimap) I still have my trusty Nokia N8 for navigation but it's a bit annoying to carry two smartphones everywhere. PS. Nokia Drive has a "just drive" mode that functions like a minimap, speedo, and odometer

According to newly released documents* , Road tests which was conducted on Googles autonomous cars on 2012 was released earlier his week, The Cars have been tested only once by a government body on open roads by Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) officials in May 2012 & the test was under the controlled enviorment of google officials & NDMV(Nevada department of motor Vehicles) agreed to the terms * IEEE Spectrum obtained the driving log of this test and e-mails referring to it under Freedom of Information legislation Drive Test: The test took place on may 1 2012 in Las Vegas , Chris Urmson head of the Google's self driving card project was behind the driver seat in an event if anything ever went wrong, next to him Anthony Levandowski the engenieer & on the backseat was the Nevada's examiners (One was Bruce Breslow ,a sportscaster and politician who was then head of the DMV.The other, Nancy Wojcik, is in charge of testing and licensing for the state) The examiners would grade Google’s car in every scenario, determining whether it operated fully autonomously, needed some assistance from Urmson, or completely handed control over to Urmson. The final check box would show which situations the car had faced During the 22-km test drive. At one point, a bicycle weaved in front of the car. The car backed off before passing the cyclist safely. The Prius also correctly anticipated a pedestrian running across the street. Construction work, however, proved trickier When faced with a partially blocked-off road, the car switched between autonomous and manual modes and then braked to a halt, requiring Urmson, the safety driver, to take control. Test Drive Conditions: Before the test, Google had written: “It will be hard to anticipate if the proposed demonstration will encounter several important environmental conditions: rain, snow/ice, fog, and heavy crosswinds. So my iPhone 6s in having its battery replaced by Apple so using an Sony Xperia XA (marshmallow) for a couple weeks. Now the problem I'm having is using it for Navigation in the car. My phone hooks up to the car via Bluetooth, but I normally listen to normal radio, not Bluetooth audio. Now this is no problem for the iPhone as the gmaps app has this setting: "Play as Bluetooth phone call" (see pic). This means I can listen to normal radio, but when gmaps wants to say anything it plays it asa call which overrides the radio, and I can hear the nstruction with no problem. Gmaps on Android however does not seem to have this feature - I've looked, but cannot find it (see pic2). This means the only way to hear commands from gmaps is to have the car set to Bluetooth audio, meaning I can't listen to normal radio - it's one or the other. Any android guys know a way round this ? Am I missing something? Thanks
