TL: DR I have a 350GB media archive (.7z file) in my google drive that when I try to download (using Edge) reaches ~30-50GB before saying its a network error and wont restart the download. The average speed was around 10+mbps Ive pinned the tab in Edge so that it doesn't get snoozed, I've turned off efficiency settings and yet iv already restarted the download for the 3rd time I need to get it downloaded back on my system within 48 Hours before my 2TB Drive Free Trial expires. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hello! As mentioned in the title, Google has begun its transition from unlimited storage to a pooled storage for educational insitutions. (It's been a good run for students and members of the academe.) Thus, I wonder what alternatives I could choose from, so that I can still have access to my files anywhere, taking into consideration everyone's suggestion as regards practicability, privacy, reliability, and economy. In my case, here is a brief overview on how I use my Google Drive account: 1) I am a post-graduate student scrubbing through an average of 500 GB worth of document files, as well as audio and video lecture recordings which I have compiled through the years. 2) I also upload photos and videos to my Google Photos account in their original quality. Some suggestions that I have seen online are the following: 1) use external hard drives. (Hard Disk drives or DRAM-less Solid State Drives for mass storage. Then SSDs with DRAM caches as a scratch drive.) 2) move to OneDrive. (I think students can have a maximum of 1 TB worth of storage space, if their school's are subscribed to it.) 3) subscribe to either Google Drive, One Drive, or iCloud. 4) NAS servers. 5) Home-made NAS. (Since some of us have dipped our toes into the realm of PC building or gaming during the course of the pandemic - and eventually built our own systems in our homes or dorms.) I hope to hear from y'all, so that we can help each other out in this Google Drive transition. P.S. - Apologies in advance if I misused some technical terms. I admit that I am not too techy.

Hey! So I'm in a Discord server and I wanted to share some cute videos of my sister's bunny with them. I don't have Discord Nitro so my file-size is limited to 8 MB, and the videos were ~50 MB á piece, so I figured I'd just upload them onto Google Drive and make some public links. So some people freaked out, saying I basically just doxed myself and anyone who clicks the links. Personally, I know when they open the links they can see the email address of the person who owns it, and the name tied to that account. But that's basically it (I thought). These people were saying anyone who clicks those links are doxing their names, connected e-mails, billing addresses, etc. etc. just all kinds of personal information. Anyway, the server mods removed the links and said if I was alright with doxing myself that's one thing, but if it doxes anyone who clicks the links, that's not okay. Fair enough, I certainly don't want to accidentally trick anyone into sharing anything out of privacy concerns. This post isn't about drama... I'm just honestly curious if it's true that a public G-Drive link gives everyone access to that much personal information? It seems very unlikely to me. I know personally I wasn't able to see whenever anyone else was on that link. There's also a difference between a shared file and a shared link, where a file/doc/etc. share does show everyone's e-mails or "anonymous animals" if not logged in. But I suppose it's possible that someone much more tech-savvy than I could have access to that stuff if they really wanted to.

I’m planning to set up a home NAS. it will be used for: 1. to replace my google drive. 2. to dump my photos and videos from my iphone 3. To do some torrenting 4. About 2-3 users 5. For backup maybe as time machine for my mac and backup storage for my desktop. questions: 1. do i really need to consider raid 1? I mean it’s for personal use. Files aren’t really THAT important but i don’twant them gone either. To make it as reliable as a google drive, is raid necessary? 2. Ironwolf 4tb 5900rpm x 2 on raid 1 on a ds220j OR ironwolf PRO 8tb 7200rpm on a ds120j?

Hi, I have a word file in my Google Drive that I make changes to it everyday. I have a website (Google Sites) that I embed it in because Google Docs renders things differently to Word some of the text is not in the right position so i save it in a word as a PDF. It's really annoying, as I said earlier I am making changed everyday so it becomes a hassle. Does anyone have solutions (I use Google Drive Stream so I can access it from my File Explorer?)

Hi there. So I'm currently experiencing some issues with Google Drive and NPM. I am using the new Google Drive on Windows (if I remember correctly, used to be called Google Filestream). The issue basically involves the fact that when I do npm install in a Node.JS directory, it tells me that the <PROJECT DIRECTORY>/node_modules folder doesn't exist. Using the same project files and package.json in my local Downloads folder worked absolutely fine and installed everything like it was supposed to. The full error is as below: npm ERR! code ENOTDIR npm ERR! syscall mkdir npm ERR! path G:\My Drive\Coding\1. Node\1. Discord.JS\SleepBot\node_modules npm ERR! errno -4052 npm ERR! ENOTDIR: not a directory, mkdir 'G:\My Drive\Coding\1. Node\1. Discord.JS\SleepBot\node_modules' npm ERR! A complete log of this run can be found in: npm ERR! C:\Users\stent\AppData\Local\npm-cache\_logs\2022-03-13T17_06_01_171Z-debug.log The log file mentioned above has been attached to this post. And my package.json: { "name": "sleepbot", "version": "1.0.0", "description": "A custom bot to fix the brat's sleep schedule", "main": "app.js", "scripts": { "test": "echo \"Error: no test specified\" && exit 1" }, "keywords": [ "sleepbot" ], "author": "Stentorian", "license": "ISC", "dependencies": { "ascii-table": "^0.0.9", "chalk": "^4.1.2", "cron": "^1.8.2", "discord.js": "^13.6.0", "fs": "^0.0.1-security", "moment": "^2.29.1", "ms": "^2.1.3" } } If anyone could help, that'd be great! 2022-03-13T17_06_01_171Z-debug.log

So I use colab to copy files from my FTP server to my drive using this code (i've import os os.chdir("/content/drive/Shareddrives/HAHSCollage/") !wget -c -m --ftp-user="username" --ftp-password="password" "ftp://cloudstorage.com/folder/subfolder/Finished/*" But I have to manually delete all files and folders from the "Finished" folder everytime after I'm done copying. So, I just need a code that deletes anything in the "Finished" folder, so I'll run it with the same above command. Thanks.

When downloading a large folder (>50 GB) from Google Drive it'll split the download up in multiple smaller ZIP-files (about 2 GB each) which makes the original master folder a nightmare to put together again with all the files in their correct subfolders. How do I merge/combine multiple downloaded ZIP-files from Google Drive on Mac?

Hi. So Dropbox made an official app for Ubuntu. But Google hasn't afaik. Why don't I just install a 3rd party Google Drive app on my computer? Because, one time, I saw one, maybe 3/5 stars overall, ok, decent score. But one of its reviews said their password was stolen from the app. So I was like... that's sketchy. So, anyone know of a SAFE Ubuntu app that syncs a folder straight to Google photos or drive? How can I tell if an app isn't a virus and is safe and made by trustworthy developers that won't steal my password or whatever? Or another free legal alternative?

Hi Guys! Is there a way to let Google know which folders contain images for Google Photos and which ones are just folders? I synced my documents folder with Google Drive and he picked up all logos, players and kits from my Football Manager 2020 folder and added those 100k photos to my Google Photos library. I want that folder backed up in Google Drive, but I don't want to have all of the photos in my photos library. Any ideas on how to do it? "just delete them" didn't work for me, I need a permanent solution, so for any picture on my documents folder, just don't add it to Google Photos. Thanks!

I was uploading my movie collection yesternight and let it run the whole night, it was around 200Mbit speed (25MB/s) speed and I uploaded around 20Gigs or more of data using RaiDrive. Now I can't upload there. I can download but not upload. I can upload the same files to the same location (same shared GDrive) with my mobile and other PC (which has separate internet so separate IPs). Maybe the upload was more, as Rai Drive uses a lot more data when uploading.

First of all I don't know if this is the right section to post this. With that said, here is my problem I have 100mbps upload and download(megabits) from my ISP. I wonder why the google drive upload is so slow, and it seem to cap at 0.60% which is 750kbps(according to google on 0.60% of 1gbps) So is there any thing that I can do to improve the upload speed? When using the google photo uploader the speed is fast but I need to preserve the folder hierarchy so I am uploading with google drive uploader instead.

I'm sort of in charge of the tech stuff for my school's journalism staffs, and I've been trying to figure out for a while how best to go about live syncing many gigabytes of files between multiple computers in different locations. Google Drive Sync, which we've been using this year, is THEORETICALLY the perfect solution, because we store the files on the cloud and they sync in (mostly) real time to every PC running the application in the background. There are a couple of issues with this: 1. The lack of a backup. Someone could break into our Google account and delete and entire year's worth of work. 2. It doesn't really work very well. Files sync correctly probably 90% of the time, which turns into a big issue when we have about 40GB of Adobe project files. Often times the program on one person's computer will simply refuse to sync a certain folder containing stuff they need to work on, and they have to hand it over to me so I can delete everything, reinstall the program and then wait for it to download 40GB of files. This all isn't even considering the fact that we have 40GB of synced files, but almost 800GB of files on the cloud in total (most of what isn't synced is our enormous photo library and old archives). My adviser pays quite a bit per month for unlimited Google drive storage for this purpose. I haven't found a better solution for this. It's a public school with all sorts of restrictive nonsense in terms of the local network so a physical server is not an option. Thanks so much to anyone who even reads through this mess let alone has a response

Why do these companies keep ending services only to replace them with the exact same thing?! I mean, why not just effect improvements on the existing service https://www.msn.com/en-za/news/other/google-drive-is-shutting-down/ar-AAruwoJ

Greetings, fellow tech lovers! ? My issue is quite simple: I want to know if it is somehow possible to set up an automatic data migration from one google drive account to another? Say I create 3 accounts: one for temporary storage and 2 for long-term storage. Is it possible to only upload my data to the temp account and have automatically migrate to one of the other 2, then delete itself from the temp one? I don't think it's possible but if you think it is, please let me know how. Thanks and have a great day/evening! p.s. If it's possible but with a different cloud storage solution which is also free, let me know as well.
