I'm having this weird issue on my main laptop where going into and out of fullscreen (any app) causes the system to pause/stutter, for probably the first few hours after rebooting it's totally fine but over time slowly gets worse and worse to the point where it freezes for several seconds everytime anything goes into fullscreen. (NOT just exclusive fullscreen, but anything including youtube videos, browsers, remote desktop, etc.) I'm running arch (6.6.10-arch1-1) with GNOME on X11, latest nvidia drivers (from pacman). Anyone have any idea what is going on? It's quite hard to find anything about this because most results are people complaining about stutters when in fullscreen, that's not the case here. Once It is finished entering fullscreen it's totally fine. (I can't use Wayland mostly because video playback is extremely stuttery on anything chromium based, but it also likes to break after logging out) 10900k/RTX 2080S (Clevo X170SM-G Laptop).

Is there anyway I can adjust the brightness and colour management of my AOC monitor in Ubuntu, like how I used to with i-menu when running Windows? I've been looking around and I haven't been able to find anything for adjust brightness in Ubuntu that has worked so far. I am running Ubuntu 22.04 with Wayland .

So, some context. I have had this issue for a while now, since early July, I reckon. I was not able to solve it since then. I first thought it was the mouse I had, a G502 from logitech (I even was to contact amazon and requtest a replacement), but I was mistaken. I did, though, have a speculation that it could be because of the software of my PC (because the bios did not have the issue). Today I lauched Windows for the first time in 11 months to load an old save I had there for a game, and I was amazed to see that the issue was not due to the mouse functioning badly, which honstly is a godsend. That got me excited and I started thinking what could be the issue, well, I went to the Ubuntu Hideout (the Discord Server on the tech-talk channel), I asked some questions, but apparently their solution was outdated as the gnome-tweaks program did not have the option to disable it anymore. I have searched for an option on the dconf-editor to find nothing. So, I thought it was because of GNOME, but then for some reason I chose to log out and use Wayland (I cannot use this regularly because I have an nvidia GPU). Wayland fixes it, so the problem lies in Xorg, or that is what I think it lies in. Please help this has, honestly, not been a fun experience. Feel free to ask questions, I will make sure to answer as soon as possible. Thanks for reading. I’m currently looking into changing the color profile of our Linux machines and want to change it system-wide AND apply to new profiles by default. We’re using CentOS 7 or Rocky Linux 9 (accessible via Teradici) + GNOME desktop, and by default, it applies “Automatic - Linux XGA”. The calibration curves it provides appear to be wonky as a result. Current: Preferred: According to my coworker, who provided a side-by-side between what is outputted from Teradici vs what he sees from his PC: I tried to forcefully delete the color .icc profile from the home profile, but it keeps regenerating the same profile, and I tried to set a default profile via /etc, but no dice Any way for me to do this with Ansible or via Bash script?

TLDR - I used to own a R9 290 (Sea Islands, GCN2) and couldnt get the Os to boot using the AMDGPU driver so that I could use Vulkan & DXVK, due to the reason the Kernel I have installed (5.8) and the AMD drivers only currently supporting up to Kernel 5.4. Im now using a R9 280 (Volcanic Islands, GCN1) and thought I`d give this another go and try to install Vulkan and get the AMDGPU driver running instead of Radeon. Ive had mixed results. I have managed to get Vulkan & DVVK installed and working 99% .... The last 1% being some game I cannot run from steam or lutirs that tell me I need DX11 installed of which I thought DXVK was for, so Im confused. vulkaninfo give 3 errors of what I am attributing to the issue with the Amd drivers not supporting Kernel 5.8 ERROR: [Loader Message] Code 0 : /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libvulkan_intel.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32 ERROR: [Loader Message] Code 0 : /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libvulkan_lvp.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32 ERROR: [Loader Message] Code 0 : /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libvulkan_radeon.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32 In the rest of the readout it also advises that its using the GPU id = 0 (llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.1, 256 bits)) and not my R9 280 and im a little confused about this too. lsmod | grep amdgpu also confirms this with - deviceType = PHYSICAL_DEVICE_TYPE_CPU deviceName = llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.1, 256 bits) In regards to the AMDGPU driver I have tried ... Blacklisting /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf Add the following line: blacklist radeon. Run sudo update-initramfs -u Editing the grub xhost +si:localuser:root; sudo gedit /etc/default/grub Change the line to the following: Change the line to the following: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.si_support=0 radeon.cik_support=1 amdgpu.si_support=0 amdgpu.cik_support=1 ( there is lots of conflicting guides on which one to switch on for my card and ive read that its in-between Sea Islands & Southern Islands, but .cik is the one to use?) sudo update-grub + reboot Adding these lines to the /etc/modprobe.d/amdgpu.conf options amdgpu si_support=0 options amdgpu cik_support=1 All of this had always resulted in either a black screen upon boot .. it just will not use AMDGPU I even tried updating the Kernel ( I think ) with the HWE stack, but it made no difference. sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-20.04-edge So in essence this time I have managed to get DXVK & Vulkan installed, but I still cannot use it properly ( I think from lots of reading ) due to the AMD drivers not supporting the Kernel I have installed. The easy option is to re-installed 20.04 and dont update the Kernel and according to the guides, I should be ok and this will work. However I coming to the conclusion that if Im going to re-install again, maybe I should just bite the bullet and Install Manjaro n go for the more stable setup as I can only envisage these problems returning if I stick with Gnome? Apart from Gnome being modelled off Debian and Manjaro being modelled from Arch .... I really cant find a simple explanation on how they differ under the hood. I know there is no guarantee that I will beable to get AMDGPU working with this card using Manjaro but Im up for the challenge/learning experience, but at the same time, I know more about Pop/Gnome n how it works compared to Manjaro/Arch n that keeps holding me back. I thought I`d run this past u peeps 1st just to see if there is anything I have missed out trying considering Ive actually managed to get Vulkan & DXVK installed this time before I head off on a new journey / head-ache again

Hi! I'm running Manjaro GNOME on my laptop. Default swipe actions are very good but I'm looking to expand their functionality (for example I want 4 finger side swipe to pin my current window to the side). I recently switched from KDE Plasma and obviously did my research before posting here. Manjaro GNOME comes with touche, but it doesn't seem to be working at all. For example, "Swipe with 3 fingers: Left" is mapped to "tile window", but the actual action just changes my workspace. Edit: So the question is: Is there a way to get touche working, or a good alternative?

Ubuntu is getting bloated by gnome.Canonical (company that manages ubuntu) created their own DE known as Unity, should they switch to unity or stay in Gnome??

GNOME, known for it's ever popular DE (Desktop Environment) on Linux, is experiencing a “Major Outage” with 8 out of it's 13 websites not being available for the end user. Notable infrastructure outages include: Pastebin, GNOME Extensions, Nextcloud, Main GNOME Website. Other less vital websites, such as Damned Lies, Blogs, Surveys, and Shop, are also down. Summary These outages have hindered user access to extensions that tie into the GNOME Shell, and download various media on the GNOME website. This shouldn't cause a major impact as these services are not a part of the main GNOME infrastructure, unlike their DNS service, which is still currently operable. Below is Quoting the Official status.gnome.org Website as of 21:40 PST My thoughts It's possible these websites are currently down for updates. However, the unlikeliness of having this many main websites of the GNOME foundation down, is slightly odd. A pain point for me is the GNOME extensions, as I would like to download some. Sources https://status.gnome.org/ Visiting various different websites and being unable to access them.

I would like to make it so that when I'm holding the pen above the screen it disables touch input so that I can rest my hand on the screen while I'm writing. My laptop does have the ability to detect the pen when it's near the display, and I'm pretty sure it used to disable touch input on Windows, but it doesn't seem to do that on Ubuntu, meaning I have to hold my hand in the air while writing, which is uncomfortable. I would be grateful if anyone could provide any advice on either how I could achieve this, or just disable the touchscreen in general so I can create my own script to disable it when the pen is detected --- System Details --- Laptop: Thinkpad Yoga S1 OS: Ubuntu 22.10 Gnome Version: 43.1 Windowing System: Wayland Wacom: Wacom ISDv4 EC

[source] Finally! After years of working on their own fork of the gnome shell, Canonical has finally put Unity to rest. The team cited fragmentation and poor development of their phone/tablet convergence efforts, the team has decided to move back to GNOME. The last time Ubuntu used GNOME by default was in 2010. I loved using Ubuntu way back in the day (the first version I used was 8.04 in 2008), but ended up switching to other linux distros after they made Unity the default and shifted their focus to related efforts. It seems that they're finally moving to help unify the linux ecosystem once again. Frankly, I'm super excited!

Hi. I'm currently running Ubuntu Gnome on my laptop with no problems during neither installation or daily use, however I tried to install it on my desktop yesterday. What happened is that it recognizes my second monitor as my main, and then thinks my primary monitor is on the opposite side of what it actually is. So naturally I tried to configure this in the display settings, but when I apply the settings which fix this situation, either my primary or secondary monitor stops recognizing the computer. It says no signal and then refuses to display anything. The monitor which doesn't stop working just displays the desktop wallpaper and the cursor. However, I can't open any programs or activities panel. Starting a terminal doesn't work either. My specs are: Intel 4770k GTX 780 Asus VI formula 2x8GB RAM

Hey guys, just curious about how many of you are running a version of Linux in at least one computer in your home. It can range from anything as long as you use it time to time Share your computer build along with what "flavor" of Linux and even why if you wanna spread the love!

Hi Guys, I recently purchased a tinker board and I got everything to work but gnome. If I try to load Gnome from the lock screen the buttons disappear and nothing happens for about 4 seconds, after that my pointer gets centered and that's it. I've tried to reinstall Gnome, I've even tried to reinstall the OS. Can somebody help me? I'm a Linux noob. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I admit I was playing arround and managed to run by stupidity "sudo apt-get remove *gnome*" on my Zorin OS 15 Core installation, so now I have terminal only. I am not home, if needed I can install just gnome shell and do my work. But I was wondering if there is an easy fix. Do you know a command that will install all default packages of Zorin... gnome and it's default extensions? PS: If you are wondering how I got into this... the tray icons were not running so I wanted to reinstall the interface, did not realise until later I deleted the extensions as well.

So, here is the deal: I have both KDE plasma, LXDE and Gnome installed on my linux machine. I don't use Gnome regularly, but I have it as a fallback. I also have LXDE for when I use VNC remotely. Either way, recently I have been getting gnome/lxde (i can't be sure which style this is) notification messages instead of the typical KDE notification popup at the bottom of the screen. Here is an example of what I'm getting. Long story short, How can I get back to KDE style notifications? Thanks!

I have a Chromebook Pixel (2015) running GalliumOS 3.0. When I launch GNOME (3.28.3) via lxdm (the default display manager for GalliumOS), the touchpad works well. The launch command for gnome is in lxdm.conf (session=/usr/bin/gnome-session). However, when I launch gnome via gdm3 (GNOME on Xorg), the touchpad has a completely different acceleration curve and sensitivity. Any ideas for how I could track down these differences? As far as I can tell, both are using libinput and Xorg (NOT Wayland). On both, xinput list-devices yields: ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Atmel maXTouch Touchpad id=9 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Atmel maXTouch Touchscreen id=10 [slave pointer (2)] ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)] ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ NCM-G102: NCM-G102 id=8 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=11 [slave keyboard (3)] and the output of xinput list-props 9 is identical under both. Any ideas?

I have been trying to install Arch for a few days now but nothing works. Finally I found a guide that worked pretty well, but it doesn't show how to install a graphical interface, which is what I want. So then after installing the grub bootloader, i jumped to a different guide that actually showed how to install GNOME and Xorg. After a successful installation, i tried to start the service but it gave me an error that I was in chroot. Does anyone know what to do? i tried installing xorg and GNOME outside of chroot but it would give me a long list of never ending errors, effectively soft locking the vm and forcing me to restart the installation process. Could someone reply with a guide that they know is working or tell me how to install GNOME and Xorg and how to start it? Many thanks.
