Hello everyone. So I built a new pc from scratch, everything works perfectly, but the only issue is that every now and then I lose internet connection to my pc (it is connected via cable and not wirelessly). And according to the troubleshooter, this message pops up: "The default gateway is not available". After that, it automatically resets the ethernet adapter and the problem is fixed. The motherboard is the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2. The solution I've tried but to no avail: 1)Reset the TCP/IP Stack (through cmd) 2)Disabling and enabling the network adapter 3)Updating the netowrk adapter drivers 4)Disabling the save power option that turns off some devices 5)Reseting the router to factory settings (Did not do that myself) 6)Replaced the ethernet cable. Replacing the cable, stopped the issue from occuring multiple times throughout the day, but it still happens once or twice every other day. Is there a permanent solution to this problem?

Hi, I created new sub-net for just phones, then created separate wifi, but I don't have internet. Not very good at networking but here is what I have: I already have DHCP server that is running on 192.168.1.0/254, when I created new network I created with different range 192.168.2.0/254 and selected DHCP Mode = DHCP Server. My gateway is on 192.168.1.253, from what I understand I need to somehow to connect the new network with the old gateway, not sure how to do it, please help Thanks Roly

Hi all, I recently came into possession of an old junk laptop (Gateway NV52L15u) that my parents were going to throw out. I figured, rather than creating more e-waste, I would try to give the laptop a new lease on life, while at the same time finally taking a dive into Linux (plus, if I failed in doing so, I could at the very least scavenge the hard drive as a new game library drive). The laptop isn't great - coming into my hands with a lightning fast AMD A8-4500M at 1.9GHz with 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 500GB mechanical hard drive - but I had some extra DDR3 sticks lying around, so I upped the total memory to 6Gb and focused on OS upgrades. I got Windows 10 running but it's pretty slow, and I don't really want to throw any money into this machine at the moment for a solid state drive, so I thought using a 128Gb Samsung USB 3.1 flash drive, coupled with this laptop's single USB 3.0 port, would at least allow me an easy way to run PopOS (I had seen a lot of videos about PopOS and of course the Linux challenge has me interested in the overall ecosystem). I created a Live Environment (using a 4GB USB thumb drive I had floating around) using my main desktop machine, disabled UEFI on the laptop and reverted back to Legacy BIOS, booted to that Live Environment, and installed PopOS on my 128Gb Samsung drive. All was well and good until I removed the Live Environment drive and tried to boot directly from the Samsung 128Gb drive (herein referred to as my boot drive). The laptop does not detect my boot drive in the USB 3.0 slot, only the USB 2.0 port. At that point, I might as well use the hard drive in the machine as a boot drive, but I don't want to nuke my copy of Windows just yet. When I booted to my Live Environment, it was from the USB 3.0 slot, so I know that the port works and can be booted from. Is there some way to rectify this or something I'm missing? I'm new to the Linux community in almost every way (I have a Raspberry Pi I play around with every once in a while), but willing to get my hands dirty. Any advice? TLDR - See bolded System specs - See underlined Thank you to all!

I started having this problem around 4 or 3 days ago and I've tried everything that I've seen in other web pages and videos and nothing has helped. I'm connected to the internet through an ethernet cable and I can navigate on the internet normally but whenever I go to YouTube and I watch a video at 2160p a couple of minutes after I started watching the video, my computer is unable to connect to the internet. I just troubleshoot the problem and its fixed. it says "The default gateway is unavailable. Fixed." and the internet comeback and I can navigate normally until I watch a YouTube video. I've reset my router. I've make sure that the ethernet cable is properly connected to my pc but non of that worked. I also updated the ethernet driver and I tried by uninstalling it and letting window re-install it too and it didn't work. I've reset the network and it didn't work, I hope some of you guys could help me please.

I am trying to upgrade my network to enable more ports for configuring a network / cluster. When I tried to use more than 6 ports, the devices are not getting the internet. Is there a way I can configure and enable all the ports on the switch to be able to access internet on all of them and also ssh between the devices ?

Hey all, So I was trying to create a “Mesh” network in our household. I’m somewhat tech savvy, but hold very little knowledge in networking.. What I tried last weekend was connecting a router into our gateway (in slot 1 as it’s the only WAN slot) and it worked for a couple hours until the network crashed. I believe it crashed because I didn’t disable the gateways functionality and it was giving each device its own unique code as well as the routers doing the same thing. What we currently have: Gateway: CODA-4589 (TV/phone/internet/Wi-Fi all in 1) Router: ASUS AX6100 (x2) The modem keeps consistently timing out during games on a hourly basis... I believe this is because we have almost 50 devices hooked up to the Wi-Fi including smart tv’s smart plugs, google home, phones, pcs, ect… I also went with Wi-Fi 6 to future proof ourselves and we currently have a true 1000 mpbs connection that I want to utilize as much as I can without being hard wired in (not possible where it's set up). Currently I tend to drop to around 100mpbs or less with ping fluctuation from 3-120 on LAN and an even bigger fluctuations while connected to servers. the ping is just never stable. can someone help point me in the right direction? thanks!

I am working on a home project to experiment and create a more secure network. I believe I have most of it planned well, but I am confused on the DNS and Gateway settings. On my Gateways I've set the IP to their next hop from the device they are currently on. If there is a mistake. please help me figure out what I need to change for this to work properly. As for DNS I couldn't find an exact answer on google or forums regarding the use of a DNS IP that is on a different network. I'm not sure if all 3 separate networks can use the same DNS 192.168.2.3/24 (Located on the Fanless i5 ESXI Mini PC), or if a DNS "must" reside within that same network that the computers are in. This is the reason why I added 2 Pi-Holes for both the First Network and the Third Network (The Second Network is the IPSec network between both locations). So I would like a reassurance check as to if my DNS/Gateways are correct or if I need to change something. Another concern I have is that if only 1 Pi-Hole is needed at the very beginning of the network, will the IPSec Tunnel in between cause any issues in filtering dns requests? That was too specific to find a google answer, and I'm unaware as to how IPSec affects the Pi-Hole filtering, if at all from the network on the right side. Thank you for taking the time to review my design, and I look forward to your suggestions. By the way, IPSec must be implemented on the design as is. Other hardware and servers are excluded from this scope if they aren't relevant to the project.

Good afternoon, I am having issues adding a switch to my network at my office. I currently have my set up as Modem to the firewall (ubiquiti unifi security gate) to my switch (netgear gs 105) then the switch has one port going to my desktop, one to my security dvr, and one going to my access point (ubiquiti unifi uap-ac-pro-us). My Point-of-Sale needs a switch in my showroom. My network equipment is in my back office. The switch that came with my PoS package was a TP-link 8-port cable/DSL router. I ran a 75 foot cat6 cable through the ceiling from the netgear switch to the showroom. There I connected to the Tp-link switch. Once I did all my other connections stopped working. When I ran the troubleshooter through a desktop I have on wifi it says there is a DNS error. I do have a static IP through my ISP so I can monitor my security off site. Is the 8-port router conflicting with my other set up? Do I need a different switch for the showroom? Is there a way to may the 8-port router work as just a bridge? I am not an expert when it comes to networking, It took hours just to add the firewall in because I thought it was a switch. Looking for any and all help or explanation on what is going on. Thank you

Hi, i am trying to reset a Gateway laptop with the factory image that it came with but it seems like something has made the partition unbootable and i am not sure how to fix it. i am getting and error code of 0xc00000e9 with an info message of An expected I/O error has occurred. after a bit of research i can supposedly fix it by running check disk on the partition but i am afraid that it might make the recovery partition worse then it already is. Can someone give me a little info on to what it will do to a recovery partition? will it make it worse or could it possibly help me? i will be making a backup of the recovery partition before i do run check disk to be on the safe side.

My router is getting really old (manufactured 2006) so I need a new one my servers are also really old so I thought I would build a new server I am building a server with dual ethernet and wifi so that I can have one ethernet port be WAN (connected to modem) and one be lan and then also have wireless lan Parts List: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/cTurtle98/saved/pYyRBm my only problem is that this computer will be tucked away in a cabinet with fans on the back for ventilation. the motherboard only comes with antenas that screw directly onto the motherboard. any recomendations on an external antena to use? i need about a 4 foot cable on the antena so it can sit on top of the cabinet while the computer is inside

I tried changing boot device priority to removable device and saving and exiting setup but it every time the pc turns on it gives me my gateway logo and at the bottom it says preparing for automatic repair and brings me to this blue screen. I have also tried disabling secure boot. I dont know what to do. I would appreciate all the help i can get. If you need to see any pictures just ask. Thanks in advance!

Hello Everyone, I have a problem trying to get Windows 10 on a old school Gateway LX6810 oem computer. I was trying to install win 10 and kept getting this error message " We couldn't install Windows 10 0xC1900101-0x20017 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation." I called Microsoft support and chatted with a technician. I even allowed them to take over my pc because I was upgrading from win 7 to win 10 through the upgrade process. Even after the techn was done doing everything they did in a what they called a custom install and was told it would not fail it did. I was stuck with the same error code but this time I could not get back into windows 7. So I used my main computer and contacted Microsoft back with my case number and we tried it again this time making a DVD iso disk. So I tried a fresh install on the computer again I was told it would work and my system did pass their system compatibility test which they ran before we began the upgrade from win7 to win10. This information was in the case notes. I tried the fresh install and it gave me this error code 0x1900107. Ok, so that didn't work so I contacted them again because I was able to use my win7 disk and loaded win7 back on the hard drive so I wasn't understanding why win7 would load just fine but win10 wouldn't? The new techn was like do you have a new or different hard drive available, I was in luck I did! I installed the new hard drive I unplugged and took out everything but the graphics card and Dvd drive, I unplugged all the usb front side panel and all extra sata cables from the mother. Now I made a USB iso flash drive and we tried installing Win10 this way, this time with the custom install that she provide me and again guaranteed it would work. Well it didn't. This is the new error code it gave me after it crashed and blue screened, but it did load onto the hard drive and gave me the win10 logo and the little circles started spinning like it was going to load. Here is the error code, "INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE." Since it did crash she transferred me to another techn this guy said that my Gateway LX6810 was not on Gateway's upgrade list and it was not their problem and ended chat. When I talk to a technician over the phone, YES I called to complain and report the end chat! I told her that in my first contact the technician ran a compatibility test and the system passed the test. I also told her I have a FX6800-01 which wasn't on Gateways upgrade list but it passed the compatibility test and is working just fine. OK here is what I'm here for she transferred me to another technician over the phone and he said he see's this error all the time the last one "inaccessible boot device": and said it's my bios. He said," I need to switch my bios from UEFI to Legacy. That this was a "secure boot" problem Here's the thing I DON'T have that option in my bios? I looked. I'm not a super computer guy but I do know my way around one, and I have the internet, lol. I was told to call the mobo manufacture for a secret way to get into bios? I know about F2 on my computer to get into bios, F9 to get into my systems way to do raid array, F10 to access the boot menu. The delete and tab button don't do anything for this system. So I did call American Megatrends they told me to contact Gateway. I called Gateway they were no help at all. They wouldn't help me because my computer was out of the warranty date. I finally got someone on the line and transferred to their technician department. He said since it was out of warranty he couldn't answer any questions. He did give me an number to call, but it was disconnected. So now I'm here GUYS please help me or let me know if there is any hope for this computer? Anyone else have this problem? Thank you for any advice, help you can give.

Hey everyone! Im new here and have a few questions / looking for your opinions on how I should finish this mod project. I recently bought a Gateway 2000 Performance system from Ebay and gutted it. After hours of Dremel work I cut the new motherboard IO hole, Did some small cable management locations on the inside and Had to unfortunately tinker with the PSU slot and cut away a small amount but it all fits and is working! This system is rocking: Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z270X-Ultra Gaming CPU: Intel Core i5-7600K 4.6ghz Water cooled by: Corsair H60 Graphics Card: GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2060 Gaming OC Pro 6G RAM: HyperX FURY 12GB DDR3 (1866MHz) Storage: (2) SSD's @ 250gb each + a HDD PSU: 630 wat corsair or something similar i forget lmaoo Anyway my questions here are what is the best way to repaint or recolor the case? Im wanting to get the classic 2000 beige white back. Currently the front cd drive is the only thing with the classic color still on it. The rest has turned to a yellowish tint. The side panels are full metal while the front panel is just a hard plastic. I also am looking to purchase front USB / Card readers / Fan controller units later but all the models online are in black so I will have to repaint them as well. Below are WIP photos don't judge the duct tape on the front xD. All responses and reply's are appreciated!

I currently connect to my computer at home by directly port forwarding an obscure port to it, which means I cannot prove the identity of my remote computer, which is NOT great. Sometimes I use my raspberry pi VPN to connect (which is openvpn with proper certificate and password authentication) but I often find it easier to to directly connect to my computer. Is there a good way to add kerberos to prove the identity of the remote computer, perhaps with a raspberry pi? I'm looking for something similar to the RDP gateway that I use to connect to my computer at work.

So I'm trying to get a DHCP and DNS server running within vSphere. Problem is there was a MikroTik device handing out DHCP and DNS before. I turned off those services on the MikroTik, spun up the VM but it can't even consistently ping the MikroTik. I'm at a loss and don't know what it is. I have a feeling it has to be with the config in vSphere. HELP

Hello, I was mostly wondering if anyone who is familiar with Pfsense has seen this before. Some background: I have Centurylink Gigabit Fiber to the home for my ISP. I have gotten everything working for connections and we have been running correctly for a while now except one thing. When I look in the Pfsense box's connection statuses for the gateways, it shows that my 6rd gateway is down. Problem is that when I run tests on the ipv6 connection, it actually works perfectly, in-fact the test shows native ipv6 even though it's a 6rd setup. I'm not sure if there is anything I should be changing or fixing considering the devices behind the box are able to use ipv6 seemingly without issue.

So I’m thinking of moving my small rack with Ubiquiti gateway, switch, cloud key, and Netgear modem from the office room to the garage of my house. The normal temp inside garage is around 80°F/26°C to 85°F/29°C in Florida (U.S.A) humidity. Question is, does anyone think I’ll have any problems by operating all these devices within the garage? I want to move it to the garage since I just moved to this house and it’s already wired with Cat5e throughout the home and the junction box is in the garage. I’m open to suggestions or ideas. Thanks in advance.
