I've been using Pioneer headphones for years now, however there is a few things that bug me: Soundprofile: I love how it sounds when listening to music, but since they have quite strong lows, I feel like I'm having a harder time hearing steps, shots, etc. in games. Closed back: I tend to mumble / slur words a bit when I can't hear myself talking. Pressure: I wear glassed and the Pioneers get quite uncomfortable a couple hours into a gaming session. So now I am looking for good headphones around the $100 / 100€ mark that have a more neutral sound and are open back and comfortable to wear. On reddit, many people are recommending the Philips SHP9500 as a good value choice, however that one is not available in Germany. Do you have any other recommendations for me?

HE400i 2020 mediocre/noob review There are gonna be some comparisons to other headphones as well. The result and points given is my experience in stuff I've tested so far and not really meant to be taken seriously as I don't have very high end stuff to compare with. These are tested on my Sound Blaster AE-9 soundcard on high gain at around 25-30% on windows so these are harder to drive headphones than others I've tested. The reason I bought these is knowing that it will my first time ever trying out a planar headphone and that got me even more intruiged and interested in this tech. Lets start off the review talking about the unboxing and first impressions. Not that it really matters when using them The moment I got my hands on the package it immedietly felt more premium than other stuff I've seen and felt. When I was opening the box cover it slowly slid up, and a moment later revealing the headphones lying in a silk type of cloth. It really felt like Hifiman cares about the whole thing even at the lower end of their planar headphones. The headphones look very pleasing even with the thick headband. Solid 10/10 here Build quality After picking them up I feel the sturdiness of the whole headphone. They seem to have metal cups if I am correct or just very good plastic containing polymers with metal and metal yolks around the cups. The part where the yolks goes into the headband - I forgot the name of them - are made of strong plastic which feel like they won't break as I've seen other DT 990 pros doing. The headband feels very sturdy and the foam inside the pleather is very stiff and feels like it won't get flattened easily. My 990 pros did that for some reason. Might be that I stretched them out too much making the surface area smaller resulting in too much weight on the headband. The pads are made of good pleather and other cloth materials which are soft and strong. Nothing to complain about here. The cable is a bit stiff at first and is pretty tangled in a curved mess but easily fixable straightening it out overnight or a couple of days. One small note is that I can hear some crinkle in the left cup when pushing it gently, I think is planar crinkle. I am not sure if it is normal so anything on that please tell me. 9/10 for the build Comfort The comfort is the next thing I feel after putting them on, literally. They feel very light for their weight but are still kind of on the heavy side compared to other headphones, it doesn't really make sense but in some way they just feel lighter than expected... but I think these get a bit annoying to wear for many hours on end without any pauses. The headband is thick and has pleather around it. The headband does not slip easily or dig into the head as I thought they would coming from the X2HRs which has a huge headband. It does sit more around the head and a bit on the sides like the DT 990 pros do which contributes to the light pressure. Clamping force is really good. Not tight or too loose. The pads are very nicely designed with their angle of the pads and not like the X2HRs which have the drivers angled. The difference in use of materials makes them more comfortable and less scratchy. I am unsure if they are memory foam but I'd assume not due to the softness of the foam. This could be a good and bad thing, memory foam usually fits better for me and has better retention over time. Although they fit very snugly with their circumaural shape around my ears which I think are small-medium in size and if my ears touch the inside wall it doesn't feel like it. I am a glasses wearer but it doesn't bother me because the pads are so soft they just go around the frames. My frames are a bit slim but shouldn't really change anything having a thicker frame. Comfort 8,5/10 Ease of interchangeability/maintenance The pads are the focus pads which are removable with a system that have 4 teeth that has to go inside pockets in a plus pattern around the cup poining outwards. It is finicky to get them back in but pulling the pads off isn't that hard. A bit scary not knowing how hard to pull before ripping something. The headband seems unreplaceable. But I don't really know for sure. 8,5/10 Sound When first testing them out I had to try a variety of songs and songs which are very energetic and fast, including hardstyle, and some electronic music. I've always heard planar headphones are very fast and that is the way I'd describe them. They hit fast and hard but not in a muddy way. I feel like they have so much more energy and more time to recover in between frequencies. It is like all sounds speed up and are undisturbed with low distortion. Especially coming from my previous daily driver, the X2HRs which are dynamic and the drivers are a bit slower because of the way dynamics work and the size of the driver. They are not extremely hard to drive but requires more power than dynamic headphones. I do have one note. I think these have a slight difference in channel balance but I think it is just very slight. I am a bit sensitive to that tho so take that with a pinch of salt. Sound signature To me the sound signature is bright and has good clarity in the highs and still retains the clarity and the detail in the mids when the bass kicks in. They sound very transparent and open and has a big stage unlike the 990 pros which are more analytical and sometimes bloaty in the upper bass to mids and the X2HR's which are darker but wider than the 990's. Low-end The low-end is a bit recessed to me but is very textured and has slam to it. Punch is fixable with EQ with a few dB's to the liking making them a bit more fun depending on what I listen to or game. 9,5/10 Mids According to frequency graphs the mids are very flat but dips down slightly around the 2k area. They are not forward in the mids and are generally pretty neutral or a bit on the colder side. 9,5/10 Treble The lower treble is more recessed than the upper treble which to me makes them very good at not being sibilant but they still sparkle in the upper treble. They are a bit airy as well. 9/10 Soundstage The HE400i's are the most open headphones I've listened to. My other headphones, DT 990 pros and the X2HR's, in some way feel more enclosed and muffled probably due to the pad size of the X2HR's and the dark signature. The 990 pros are almost semi-open for what I've heard others say. The width isn't as big as my X2HR's but the HE400i's have so much better imaging. The width is natural to me and the height of the stage is much bigger than the X2HR's. The depth of the sound is very good and is very 3d like. The X2HR's feel a bit fake in this aspect making the HE400i's very good. 10/10 for me Imaging The imaging is much better than the X2HR's but still unsure if the DT 990 pros are worse, on par or better. I can pin point stuff easily in games. 9/10 In total for sound 9,4/10 To wrap it up, I think these are the best for their value and assuming a very good beginner planar headphone. I can strongly recommend this to anyone having interests about planar headphones and has never tried any. These get a solid *9,2/10* Thanks for reading my review and happy new year everyone! I'd love to see questions or something regarding my review, I'm happy to answer all comments.

Hi all, I am looking to buy a new gaming headset for someone and the budget is anything under $250. It needs to be compatible with PC at minimum but if it is compatible with PS5 and Xbox also that would be nice. I would prefer wireless, but wired is also okay as long as it is a nice headset. Sound quality is definitely the first priority over anything else. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated

Almost every Steelseries Arctis series headphone is probably going to break at this one point, specifically if you wear one ear-cup off of your ear to talk to the people around you. Has it happened to you? I wasnt sure if I should post this to Peripherals, or Audio, etc. Googling: "steelseries headphones break". Results below I'm amazed it's not a class action lawsuit yet. I feel like it should be. I am not personally affected (yet) and I dont have the following to organize one. (EDIT: I DONT CARE ABOUT A LAWSUIT, i just wanna talk about the broken headphones.) I have the grandpa of these headphones, the Steelseries H Wireless, and I'm 8 years in on it. Bought it when radioshack was going out of business for half price. They've only just started to crack (and i wear them off one ear literally nearly all the time). When mine break, I was really hoping to upgrade to a newer SS headset, but not if this is constantly happening. And obviously they're not going to fix it until someone calls them out on it. (Linus pls!) They have the gall to charge up to $350 US for their top of the line ones, but I feel like this affects almost all Arctis designs? Seems especially to affect the most expensive one? (Or people who bought the most expensive one are more likely to complain online). From everything I've heard, the price is worth it, but not if they're gonna break. I think it's pretty messed up. I tweeted about it but have no followers, so I thought I'd post here too. I know it prob wont change, but here's me giving it a shot. I think they need to be called out. I think it'd be a good video, but I just wanted to talk about it.

Title says it all. My brother had a pair of these and they sounded amazing. Was wondering if they would be great for gaming? Also, any recommendations for a DAC/AMP compatible with this headset would be great! Thanks!

So I bought a new headphone, it's better than my old headphone but the RGB on it is always on (Even when pc is off(I hate RGB)). I did some research and I found out I should disable the "Charging USB Devices in Power State S5" from bios. But I couldn't find that in my ASRock motherboard. Please help me. If its neccesary my motherboard : ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0

https://ebgames.com.au/pc-240487-HyperX-Cloud-II-Red-Pro-Gaming-Headset-PC-Gaming https://ebgames.com.au/pc-222450-Razer-ManOWar-71-Gaming-Headset-PC-Gaming They currently have only an $8 difference and I'm wondering what'd be better, they are both 7.1. I chose these two because they also come with a 3.5 millimeter jack so I can use it on my apple devices. I also much prefer if headphones are very in-closed, so the person next to you can't hear your music. I've red mixed reviews and haven't really gotten a solid decision, so that's why I'm making the thread and I also prefer noise cancelling, so I wear them and most of the background noise isn't audible with the headphones on. A mute button and volume control is preferable with the headphones. I'm not worried about it's console performance. I will use one of these headphones for gaming, music, movies and just general use.

Okay, so quick rundown of my situation. Ryzen 1700x Nvidia 1060 16gb 3200 B350 Tomahawk So, I have the Astro A40's without the Mixamp and I've been using them for about a year. It was a vast upgrade from what I had been using. I'm getting ready to upgrade some things to get better quality Audio, specifically for the Mic side of things, but during my research I'm finding that without the MixAmp for the A40's I'm barely getting Stereo Sound and that I need something that will enable Dolby Headphone/Dolby Digital Live. The B350 Tomahawk mobo I'm using doesn't have a S/PDIF option on board so I'm looking at what possible value options I have to provide me access to better quality sound. I've heard/read the debates between DAC/AMP vs Sound Cards and I've waded through the hate towards current Sound Cards due to improvements with On-board Audio. All that being considered, what I'm looking for is help/suggestions towards the most straight forward way of gaining a noticeable improvement on Gaming Audio for the A40's (Yes, I know other headphones out there would be a better choice, but I have a rather large head and the A40's column style construction has proven both comfortable and durable as most headphones don't have the flex on the sides to allow for proper fit on my head). I'm currently looking at the Asus Xonar DGX PCI-E GX2.5 as a Sound Card option to provide me access to Dolby Digital Live/Dolby Headphones which matches what the Astro MixAmp provides at a much more affordable price point. What would be other options or perhaps BETTER options around the same price point, basically looking for a sub $70 option here. Any and all legit help would be greatly appreciated. I will be ordering new Mic equipment with an Audio Mixer for sound input in the next couple of days. Thanks in Advance!!!

I need a new pair of headphones, as my last pair of Razer kraken broke. There is a pretty nice -36% offer on Roccat Cross headphones in a store here, and it comes with 2 years' warranty. Are they worth buying for 50$? I've heard some good things about them but I'm not sure yet. Does anyone reccomend them for that price? Thanks for your help in advance!

I'm not really an audio expert so please bear with my terms. So i recently found out about the m1060. And i decided that these headphones will be my "Gaming Headphones". The question is, If these headphones need a Dac/Amp to get a better sound quality. Which Dac/Amp would that be? And also if you have another recommendation for another great headphone which has good sound quality and can make footsteps noticeable and can make you feel like you're actually in the game (ex. you can feel the feelings of the music) , It will be very much appreciated.

Greetings. I need your assistance. I recently bought a pair of HD 650 on the high side on ebay (around $268. I believe I over paid. I was excited.). I heard so many great reviews about them I didn't even think to research them more. When I got them I was a little let down as they don't sound super amazing to me. At least, not almost $300 amazing. To me they sound a bit boring. Researching it, I found a trend. Most people that say the 650's are amazing have $250++ on amp and dacs. Yikes.. these headphones suddenly became too expensive for me. I'm faced with a couple of options: A. Return the 650's and buy a cheaper headset that's easier to drive or a pair that's closer to a sound that I like. (Not a bad deal. The HD 650 are probably only going to get cheaper anyways. I could probably get them back If I changed my mind and for less than what I paid) B. ??? I returned them. Time to buy a new pair of headphones. These headphones will be used for gaming (naturally) and music. I enjoy dirty, rowdy null metal. Listen to Cane Hill - Ugly model American to get what I mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4rpnaKul64 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8a8IIIvH13E (Yeah, not for everyone) I also listen to Tool, which sounded (pure sex) with 650's. However, the majority of the music I listen to is rowdy compressed metal. I really don't need that much detail. As good as they 650's may be, they felt soft and anemic when gaming and listening to music. I want something with more punch. Something warm and peppery. I'd imagine what works for the music I listen to would be good for gaming and vice versa. These are what I'm looking at: (will be used with a fiio E10k. Better than nothing) k7xx - More bass, good sound, very comfortable at an affordable price. I'm skeptical if they will be as punchy as I want. Still an option. Philips fidello x2 - Confused about these one. I hear some people say they're all right then some say they're God headphones. Anybody own them? Beyerdynamic DT770/80 - Consistently recommended for gaming in everything i read. I heard people say the high treble can be a nuisance but everything else is 10/10. My budget is $200 give or take $40. They don't have to be opened eared. Sound stage is still important tho. Feel free to recommend. FYI: The 650's are GREAT headphones. I do like them. IF I had a setup to just listen to music, with dacs and amps, I have no doubt they be heavenly. I spent $268 on pair of headphones that didn't fulfill my needs with my purpose of use. I truly believe I can get more bag for the buck buying a different pair of headphones than buying quality amps, hoping the 650's will become "punchy ". Which their not designed to be anyway. lol I'm only so rich guys.

Hi i'm looking for a new set of headphones that provide good audio for games and music, have a good mic quality and are lightweight so they don't become uncomfortable for long periods of time while doing work or gaming. I would prefer them to have a 3.5mm jack available but this is not completely necessary as i don't use my ps4 that often. I'm indifferent about it being wireless whatever is best. i've only got a budget of £60-£80.
