Hello there. I have an unraid server that is basically purely used to run plex and dumb storage. For that it works fine just fine since that doesn't require anything fancy. My specs: Ryzen 3 2200G Gigabyte GA-A320M-S2H AMD A320 8GB G.Skill Value DDR4-2133 CL15 Single-slot bunch of wd reds 8tb Samsung 1TB ssd cache I tried to run a minecraft server for me and my friends. We were 3 but max would be around 5. As long we did move as a group the server held up quite good. But as we moved separately the server lagged and finally crashed. I obviously did not build the server to be able to handle a game server but i wonder what i would need todo to do that. I read some server specs that were meant to run game servers but they always were build to handle much more than what i would want. I cant really get useful information out of them. I have 2 questions. What made the minecraft server lag and what would i need to upgrade to handle game servers? my goal is mainly one minecraft server for my friends and i but it would be nice to know what is needed to maybe run more. Since the problem was with us moving separately I thought it maybe was the ram i allocated to the minecraft server. Increasing it did change anything which leads me to beleave the cpu is the main factor?! I would be rly thankful for any help you can give me

Hi all! Let me first off say that i have little to no experience with servers (hardware / software) but i do build and watercool my own PCs. Since i have no idea where to start, i have a small list of things that it should be able to do listed from top to bottom with must haves and nice to haves. ---must haves--- >NAS >being able to install and launch games on the NAS so the PCs in my home will not require any storage other than the bootdrive >Plex server with remote access >2.5gig networking >power efficient (europes prices are hell atm) ---nice to haves--- >hosting a website 24/7 >hosting a e-mailserver >hosting game servers for gmod/csgo/minecraft for up to 12 players So i want to know if i can achieve these requirements, and if so what kind of hardware / software i would need, and how to set it up that way. Informative videos on such topics would be amazing aswell, as i don't even know how to search for my edge case. Thanks! -sell

Hello everyone, I'm currently hosting a modded Minecraft server (80+ mods). If more than 6 peoples are online at the same time the TPS is dropping from around 16 to 11 or even 9. That's why I'm currently thinking about building a new server for games and the old server would then be used for Storage or so. I would highly appreciate it if you guys could help me and maybe suggest some parts or even builds for me. I was thinking about something around 600€ as my budget. My current server has: CPU: 2x Intel Xeon X5675 (6C/12T) RAM: 48GB DDR3 2000Mhz Triple channel Motherboard: Fujitsu Dual Socket 1366 PSU: 700Watt EVGA 80Plus Bronze SSD: Crucial 500GB 2.5” OS: Ubuntu server I also have some old parts from my last pc laying around and I was thinking, maybe I could use them. CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X Motherboard: ASUS Prime X570-P ATX SSD: Kioxia 500GB 2.5” PSU: Master Cooler 600 Watt - probably 80Plus Bronze GPU: RX 5700XT If I would use my old CPU I was thinking about getting a 32GB DDR4 3200Mhz kit. There will probably run about 2 or 3 games on the server. If there are any questions feel free to ask them. Thanks in advance for your time and help.

The thing is I don't wand to host a server my self so I just rent a Linux server and put a game panel(Pterodactyl) on it. The question now is should i get a vServer with 6 cores, 16gb of ram, the other stuff doesn't matter. or a Root server with only 4 cores and 16gb of ram for the same price. I don't know cause I heard that the cores of the root server are more performant and I wanna know if 4root server cores is better than 6vserver cores. I also think for Minecraft servers single core performance matters more than multicore. Most times i have 1 Ark, 1 Satisfactory and 1 Vanilla Minecraft and 1 modded Minecraft(Modpacks like Stoneblock 2) installed and at least 2 of them running at the same time.

Hello, at the moment I use an AMD A10-7800 in order to run a small system which I use as a “server”. The server runs a variety of different applications, a Minecraft server, a Csgo server and some other gameservers. Because energy is fairly expensive where I live, I want to change the processor (and the mainboard if necessary) to something more energy efficient. I want to continue to use my “old” DDR3 Ram, that’s why I don’t want to buy a new processor. Performance wise I’m pretty happy with the A10 7800 (Cinebench r15: 240 points). When idle, the total power consumption of the system is round about 40W, but if the Minecraft server is running it draws over 100W. So in short, I’m searching for an energy efficient processor that supports DDR3 and that you can buy used pretty cheap. Sebastian

Hello everyone, I just bought an Intel NUC 8 i5 quad core with 16gb ram, to use as a home hosting pc for a pair of game servers. This is my first time setting up a server and I needed some tips! Actually what I need to know what it's best for me to remote control it with my windows 10 laptop or desktop pc. I plan to get Win10 for the NUC too, and maybe connect vie Remote Desktop Connection, but wouldn't that stop my game servers from running due to the logoff thing? I could use Teamviewer but I was kinda hoping in a more built-in option. Any suggestions? Sry if my doubts feel nooby, but that's what I am.

Hi, i want to setup up some gaming servers in my locality (public hosting). At least 3-4 servers that can handle Rust and other heavy duty games. Don't worry about the expenses, as in for setting up the servers . I have people who can invest in this thing. I just want to make a small business out of it . I need to know about all the potential problems i could run into , a suggestion on the specs of all those servers , what kind of software i should probably use , I'm considering renting a lease line. So i want the lowest possible speed i can run all these games on . You might wonder why all this . Actually I'm from India. i get min 150 ping on almost all games(fortnite, rockect league, rust and many others).I just feel i can make a good business out of these servers. give me a viable deal . Thanks for the Support.

Hey guys! I want to build a server hosting it at my home. Main subjective for is being a NAS with remote access (~ 6TB with redundancy). Secondarily I want to run different projects such as a game server and a web server. As far as I can tell, a simple NAS server with two bays won't suffice. Thus, a "normal" PC is needed (the casing should be compact though). My main problems are pricing (€) and power consumption. I've seen the "HP ProLiant Microserver". That's more or less the direction I'm thinking. My questions are: 1. How much do you think will the power consumption be? 2. Any recommendations regarding a DIY case build?

Hey guys! So I'm pretty damn bored right now, and lately I have been thinking of hosting a lan party. I want to hear your guys' ideas for a lan party setup. I work in the server hosting business, so I have access to basically anything but 10/40g stuff. I have a ton of fiber cable, servers, and switches laying around too, so go crazy if you want. I look forward to hear your ideas!

Hey guys, At the moment I am at a loss with this. Myself and two of my friends are playing some old school quake using a source port called KM Quake2. The problem however is, I am hosting a dedicated server for this and i am running into a snag. I have got port UDP 27910 (official Quake 2 port) forwarded on my Dlink 2750U modem but for some reason when my friends directly connect via console, eg. "connect ***.***.***.***:27910", the pc just sits on the connecting screen and does nothing else. We have tried using Evolve which actually does work but its only a "quick" fix and we would prefer a permanent server solution. I've tried using different ports such as 27920 and even 27990 with no effect, I am hosting Team speak and Killing floor servers on the same server PC as well which are using completely different ports and they are working without a hitch. All firewalls and potential software's are disabled on the separate server PC as well. I have tested the dedicated option on two different computers and the same problem persists. I can connect to the dedicated server via console on the LAN address but not via direct Internet IP address. My friends stated they can even see the game in the server list but when they try and connect the same "connecting" problem persists Any help would be appreciated.

So i have noticed many people from surrounding area of Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia and others play game Call of duty 4, or should i say, one mod called Kill the King. I play the mod myself and it is DAMN AWESOME, IF YOU HAVE COD4 TRY IT. So i create my home servers, i really dont like to pay for them, because you wont know how people make them for you, what goes into process of creating it and is it working properly, and OFC there is a big chance of people that are actually scamming those type of services, so, as i said, i create my own. So you can run servers directly from the call of duty 4 game which wont let you insert custom mods, and to make one WITH MODS, you must copy the whole fucking cod4 folder without mods and usermaps ones, you must just make folders of them because you really dont need to copy 30 gigabytes of map that you collected from years, same goes for mods. Now i downloaded ktk mod online and inserted it into mods folder, modded the cfg's and stuff like that. Now i needed to launch the server, for that you need to create a shortcut of iw3mp.exe and insert the path and variables into properties of the shortcut itself, here is what i pasted in shourtcut target: "C:\Users\racunalo\Desktop\Games\cod4 server\iw3mp.exe" +set fs_game "mods\BalkanKtkMod" +set dedicated 2 +exec general.cfg +map_rotate Text between " 's is the path of the server folder, +set is a command that force the game to complete the command, the fs_game mods just shows where my mod is located, +set dedicated 2 just say, HEY, dont launch as a game, launch as a dedicated server, exec command is a command to execute the cfg which in our case is GENERAL.CFG and it is located in main folder in folder of the server, otherwise it wont be executed. Map rotate is default command for default rotation of maps, lots of rotations there, now my server hated completing those commands on launching server, well just executing the cfg, so i had to manually exec the damn thing for it to work. Okay so here is the part where i really hate it. So you need to download those custom mods? Yes you do, so this is what happens to the people that want to join your server: Cod4's default download place is cod4 master server, and it obviously doesn't have the mod player needs, so master server will redirect you to some places with slow download speeds. A redirect will slow this, redirect is a term also know as FastFile download. Server owner needs to create a ftp server from which cod4 will directly download the mod which causes speed improvments up to 30 times, from 10 kilobytes you can jump to 400 and 1000 kilobytes per second! That is what player want because he doesnt want to download a 65 megabyte mod at 10 kbps, right? So on Braxi forums (braxi is a girl that created this mod, yes, A GIRL) many people suggested serversfree.com ftp hosting or something like that, i dont have money so i signed up and created a place from which cod4 should download the damn mod. So in main_php or something like that i created a folder "cod4" and inside those i create two folders called "mods" and "usermaps" in mods i played the 2 mod files that user needs to download, i assigned the cfg to download from the place : http://cod4redirectserverktk.bugs3.com/cod4 so server already knows about mods located in mods folder and maps in usermaps one so i didnt list the full directory, and i tried, still didnt work. Here is the full thing from general.cfg // Client Downloadsettings (0=off/1=on) set sv_allowdownload "1" seta sv_wwwDownload "1" set sv_wwwbaseurl "http://cod4redirectserverktk.bugs3.com/cod4" seta sv_wwwDlDisconnected "0" so i setted the allowdownload and wwwdownload option to on and i left the last one off cause with it the thing wont download. So my players join the game and they get redirected from master server to this ftp and try to download the damn mod, and it "downloads" 15 and 65 meg files in 1 second like it already was, and it fucks up your game and gives you a error: fastfile for zone "mod" is corrupt or unreadable PLEASE HELP, what did i set wrong in here?
