Hello, I have been developing a game in Unity for close to a year now. However, I am now switching over to Unreal Engine 5 for various reasons: higher quality graphics, environmental details, more features, better for a larger project, and to put it simply I just do not trust Unity anymore. I have been meaning to switch from my 1660 for some time now but never really got around to do it as the GPU has been working just fine for the most part. It struggled in some cases when working in Unity (the 2021 3D version of the engine), but I have been able to work some stuff around to boost performance. Plus, after some optimizing in the game it would no longer struggle as much. However, no amount of overclocking, optimizing, or disabling lumen helps boost performance or prevent lagging. It runs but is still slow (20fps-40fps), and I fear the project will become more demanding on the GPU as it continues. Thus, my question: should I buy the 7800xt or the 4070 (or any other option you guys consider viable)? I have budget of $600 but would like to stay close to around $550 if possible and use the extra $50 or so to buy more or better RAM cards as I currently have the Ripjaws V DDR4-3200 16GB (2x8GB). Thank you. Here is a list of my PC's specs just in case there are issues elsewhere or if there needs to be a change in parts in order to better suit the GPU upgrade. Who knows, maybe I could do with a cheaper GPU than the two options I listed and rather something here below needs the upgrade instead. CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800x (yeah yeah I know, but at the time when I got this I was told this CPU was future-proofing at a budget) Motherboard: MSI MPG Gaming Plus ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 Storage: Crucial P2 1TB M.2 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME SSD Power Supply: EVGA 700 BR, 80+ Bronze 700W CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Cooling: 8 fans (120mm x 25mm) Also, the CPU has been overclocked using the AMD Ryzen Master auto CPU OC tool. Again, thank you very much.

I have had this GPU for many years and it died about a week ago and I need a nickname for it because im gonna make a game about it. Some background on it: It was prone to over heating and I had to install a plumbing pipe from the fan to some holes that I drilled in my case... and that's pretty much it. Any Ideas?

Hello LTT community, I am in the market for a laptop for game development with Unity and AAA gaming. I need the laptop to run the following applications: Unity Adobe Creative Cloud Visual Studio I am looking at the 14 to 15 inch screen size and would like it to be able to play AAA games at medium to high settings at 1080p. I am also looking for long battery life as well as at least a 500 gigabyte SSD. I’m currently looking at the MSI GS63VR (link below) and am wondering if there are any better options. My budget is around $1700(USD). Thanks! http://www.microcenter.com/product/467753/GS63VR_Stealth_Pro-068_156_Gaming_Laptop_Computer_-_Aluminum_Black

Hey, I'm considering investing in some HD 558s and a Blue Yeti microphone for my activities, I would love to have some opinions. Here's what I'd be using them for: -CSGO mostly -Casual livestreaming -Intermediate sound engineering (Not a pro, I just want noise-free recordings of objects making sounds or voiceovers so I can use them in games I'm developing) -Listening to music while I work The mic: The Blue Yeti might be overkill but it seems like something I could take with me to the grave, it does EVERYTHING. I'd want it over the snowball for the gain knob and mute button mostly, both immensely useful to me. Kinda freaked out about the size though. The headphones: I'm also considering the 598 but being a mudblood when it comes to audio, I don't know how much I would gain from it over the 558s. I currently see a deal for the 558 at $125 USD, and the 598 at $160 USD (EU tax incl). Thoughts? Also, I know colors should not matter but I'm not too keep on the cream color of the 598. Open-back seems like the choice for me, leaking is no issue, and while outside noise is annoying, it is also a necessity occasionally. It seems to be the consensus that open backs produce better sound, so I figured I'd spend on a quality product, but not more than what my untrained ears can really appreciate. Currently using a Creative Fatality headset, it does the job, sound seems fine, but microphone has more background static than what I would like, plus it's just awkward to record anything other than voice with it. It's starting to die so I've got to replace it. Opinions? Am I overspending here? Should I consider closed-back headphones?

Hey everyone! I'm planning on building a Mini-ITX PC for gaming and game dev, I have picked out parts on pcpartpicker and need your opinions on whether this is a good build. Here is the link: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/externalhardrive/saved/z7FZLk And here are the specs (if you don't want to click the link): CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U9S 46.4 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170N-WIFI Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 Memory Storage: Intel 600p Series 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card Case: Fractal Design Define Nano S Mini ITX Desktop Case Power Supply: SeaSonic 660W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit Case Fan: Fractal Design GP14-WT 68.4 CFM 140mm Fan Budget & Location: My budget is $2000 USD (monitors/peripherals not included), and I live in the US so shipping isn't a problem. Aim: My aim is to create a Mini-ITX PC that can run most next-gen games at decent fps (~60), and also for game development using Unreal Engine 4 and Visual Studio. I'm currently using an old laptop that can't handle good graphics and takes 12 minutes to compile code, so I'll need a good CPU and Graphics Card. Of course I will also use the PC for normal web browsing and such, but the main focus is going to be gaming and game dev. Monitors: I'm planning on running 2-3 monitors (3 preferable). So any monitor suggestions are welcome. Peripherals: Not very important to me, so don't worry about it. I'll use Windows 10 though. Thanks for reading this, and please give me your opinion and suggestions on anything I should change or do. (~ ̄▽ ̄)~

Hi there, I have recently came up with an idea for a game which uses completely online server. I was wondering if anyone knows or can point me in the right direction to set up public servers for my game idea. I am a Game Design College Student but we are not touching off Servers at all. So i want to learn for myself. If anyone can help this would be much appreciated Thanks in advance

Hi, I'm planning to build budget workstation for Game and Android Dev. I'm working in Android Studio and Unity/Unreal Engine. From time to time I also work in Visual Studio on .NET apps. Is it enough to buy i5 8600K or do I need i7 8700 or Ryzen 2700X (same price), and what is my best option. Thanks

[in the UK] To start off with, I'm really sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place, this is my very first post to the forums here, I've been following LinusTechTips since the NCIX days, never really felt the need to come over here until now, maybe I'll be more active from now. Okay, so I'm a PC guy, always have been, the whole 'portable PC' thing didn't interest me, since my smart phone was good enough for me to get by with my Emails and videos and such, however; now being a University student, it's seeming like it would be a more like a convenient addition to my setup. So why do I need two? Well... My girlfriend is also looking to pick one up, since her ancient one bricked last year and she hasn't got around to replacing it. I'm the one who usually advises her on this sort of stuff, so that's lumped in with my purchase. So, why the post? I'm knowledgeable with hardware, but know very little about notebooks/laptops, I barely even understand the distinction between the two besides size and weight. I'd like to know which brands to avoid and look out for in terms of battery life, longevity and build quality, since I really have no clue in this department. I know nothing about the performance of laptop processors in comparison to a PC's, I would imagine much lower clock speeds and/or heat could be a problem, but that's about the extent of my knowledge there, I don't even know exactly WHAT the standard is for core count and frequency in laptops. I have my PC for all the heavy lifting, but I'd still like to be able to open my projects whilst out and about [i study game design/development] Alright, so the requirements for mine are as follows: To be able to run 3DS Max 2015 [This is the main thing I'd need it to work with] To be able to run Unity 5 To be able to run Photoshop and Flash Professional To be able to run Visual Studio 12 If it can run these, I'll be a happy guy, and know that my other software will be fine. I could lug a 17" machine around, but I hear that this size is just uncomfortable and awkward [giggity], so I guess I'm lookin' at 15.6". Resolution doesn't matter much, I don't need 1080p. More concerned about running the apps listed above and below than fidelity. Optionally: A bit of Light gaming, [Dark Souls 2 if possible, but really not a requirement, I'm just a big fan o' Souls ] Much less important to me, but it'd be nice if I could throw hearthstone and a few other small games on. It'd be convenient if it could run UE4, but I know this is a much higher requirement than the others, so I'll keep this as optional for now, since it'd bump the price up for sure. The requirements for hers are much simpler: Minecraft Hearthstone MS-Office Gmail Web browsing Skype Really, that's about it. She doesn't need anything too beefy, but chances are she'll be taking it to and from work and such, so portability is more of a factor for her with her [i know she won't mind me saying this]; tiny lady arms. [[she does carry a decent backpack around, chances are; a 15.6" machine would fit in her bag, but it'd be convenient if it were a little smaller, I'm sure. It's more the weight than anything else]] Any 16:9 res. Details: Operating system isn't really too relevant for either machine, if they come with Win8.1; great, less effort for me. If not I'll be wiping the drives and throwing 8.1 on there myself anyway. That also goes for any pre-installed software, any bloatware gets the boot from me, and I can take care of the applications I do actually want, along with security [since we all have our preferences there.] We'll both by carrying around wireless mice, since we both equally hate trackpads with a passion, so quality of trackpad means basically nothing to us. Manufacturer refurbished machines are totally fine, so long as there's a returns policy and warranty. Budget: For mine - Lowest appropriate price, I'm flexible for this, but preferably less than £450[700$] if possible. If I need to go higher, I can: but that's what I'm throwin' at ya' right now as a rough estimate.[i am a student after all] For hers - £200 [310$]. Somewhere around this price, not much higher. That's basically it. Thanks a ton if you can help me narrow down the search, otherwise I guess I'll just go with my gut and order something that sounds about right.
