The title explains it. I have a fx 8350 at 4.0ghz and a Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 980. I have been getting poor performance in games that I know this card can handle. In BF1 I frequently drop into the 50's and even 40's, same with Far Cry 4. All other games have this same problem. AMD Cool n' Quiet is turned off. Other forums that I have read have said that the 8350 does not bottleneck the 980. All help is appreciated.

System specs: CPU - AMD FX8350 @4.02ghz Cooler - Corsair h55 watercooler Motherboard - Asus m5a97 le r2.0 GPU - Asus gtx 960 strix 2gb Memory - 16gb (4x4) corsair vengeance 1333mhz PSU - EVGA 650w gold I have been experiencing cpu multiplier drops from 20.5x to 7.0x and a voltage drop from 1.36 - 0.8v under load. It's definitely not my cpu overheating as it runs at around 45 degrees under load and is water cooled with a corsair h55. The chipset is very hot to the touch at idle and gets insanely hot whilst gaming. I have tried underclocking and and undervolting to reasonable levels with no luck. This results in massive fps drops in batllefield 1 from a solid 60fps to about 15 fps or so after a few minutes of gaming then returns to 60fps after a few minutes and this repeats over again.

Hello. I currently have a build with a gtx 950 and an athlon x4 860k with a 430 watt evga power supply. However, I plan to upgrade my CPU to an fx 8370. Is an evga 80+ 430 watt psu enough for this build? Old Specs: CPU: Athlon X4 860K w/ stock cooler GPU: GTX 950 evga ssc RAM: 1x4 GB ddr3 1600mhz and 1x8 gb ddr3 1600mhz HDD: Seagate Barracude 1tb 7200rpm Disc Drive: LG Blu-Ray Drive 14x What I plan to upgrade to: CPU: FX-8370 @ 4 ghz with wraith coolerGPU: GTX 950 evga sscRAM: 1x4 GB ddr3 1600mhz and 1x8 gb ddr3 1600mhzHDD: Seagate Barracude 1tb 7200rpmDisc Drive: LG Blu-Ray Drive 14x All of this I plan to be powered by an evga 430 watt 80+ power supply. Is that psu sufficient enough for this build? Acording to Cooler Master's Power Consumption Calculator, it will use 339 watts at load and recommends 389 watts and a 460 watt cooler master psu.

Hey, Needed to upgrade my old motherboard and CPU (amd a8-5500) . And probably gonna go for an amd fx 8350. It's my first proper upgrade so I wanted to make sure I haven't made a mistake. This is the build I'm going for. I haven't picked out a case yet, if you have any suggestions that'd be great. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/mmyDzM Thanks in advance

Herro Everyone! Making this thread because I'm not getting the performance that I should out of my system. I made a thread yesterday with regards to poor performance in Assassin's Creed 3 (https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/704101-poor-fps-ac3/) After settling on the possible conclusion that my GPU's video memory and or Assassin's Creed Anvil engine not favoring multi-core CPUs was the cause of the poor performance at that time. I played Rise of the Tomb Raider on near Ultra on 1080p and got around 45-50fps, which performed phenomenally! Today I decided to be play an old classic Ryse: Son of Rome, where I ran into a lot of skipped frames when moving the camera in certain maps especially the jungle map with the abundance of dynamic foliage (Chapter IV : The King). Monitored the system for an entire half hour playing through and there was nothing out of the ordinary. Looking at my system specs I'm trying to narrow down possible bottleneck(s) that could could be causing said performance in such old games. CPU: AMD FX-8350 4 - 4.2GHz GPU: EVGA GTX 960 2Gb (reference) RAM: Kingston Hyper X 8Gb 1600Mhz (DC 1333Mhz/ 667Mhz) HDD: Crucial M500 128GB & a Cheap Transcend SSD MOBO: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 (rev 5.0) PSU: Rosewill Capstone 750w 80+ Gold Additional Info : Using a 1080p 60Hz Monitor on a cheap 15ft HDMI cable. Now that we have the specs out of the way lets get down to business, I've listed the possible bottlenecks below and the reason why next to them, any advice would be appreciated, I purchased most of these parts back in highschool as I were on a budget, I'm presently in university and I still can't afford top end PC hardware, I cherry picked the parts because it suited my budget at the time and I knew they would be compatible with each other to some extent where it WORKS and it has worked for the past 3 years and has not failed me once to this day. So please don't judge my decisions at the time. Motherboard Bottlenecking the entire system- My mobo is a 760g chipset motherboard, at the time all I cared about was getting an AM3+ socket board, I know there would be a substantial gain moving to a proper 990fx board for my 8350 and moving from the 4+1 phase power phase to 8+2 I could juice a lot more power from the 8350. The motherboard is also an old Sata 3Gbs which isn't using my SSDs full potential. It also only supports 1333Mhz (rev 5.0) which also downclocks my 1600Mhz ram. Graphics Card could be faulty- I mainly play CSGO, I hardly played casual games since I got the GTX 960, look at how the same card performs in systems similar to mine, persons get 15-20 fps difference and their games and they don't get those frame skips in those texture ridden games unless you throw a lot of textures at it's 2Gbs. Just a theory that I may have a faulty GPU or so. Many thanks if you have reached this far into the OP and so much for your time and any contributions and or advice would be greatly appreciated. I really need to get around why I'm getting these frame skips and frame drops in these games.

(I noticed this while playing CS GO) I woke up this morning, all ready to play CS GO, but when I turned on my PC, there were weird artifact looking lines across my screen (There were only two of them). I thought it was nothing, so I restarted my PC. When it turned on again, they were gone, so I opened CS GO and loaded into a match. But there was a problem. I was getting 20 fps. This is not good at all, since I usually average 150 fps. I thought it was no big deal, so I just restarted my computer (again). Sadly, that didn't help anything. I wondered if it was just CS GO, so I tested some other games. My very first game I tested was JC3 (please no hate I know its bad) and I went from a solid 60 fps down to 14. Almost every single game I tested dropped to unplayable frame rates.SPECS: FX 8350 12 Gb DDR3 1600Mhz Asus R7 360 Win 10

Hello again all. First of all sorry for my last thread, I got irritated because people were telling to get a new PSU so I eventually did (Corsair RM750X). Thanks all. So I decided to try and overclock my PC, specs again are; AMD FX 8350 MSI 970A-G43 AMD RX 480 Samsung 840 EVO SSD Corsair RM750X 16gb 1600mhz RAM I followed online examples and pushed my CPU to 4.5ghz. Failed stress test. Upped voltage to 1.38 (from 1.365, it was the next step up), still crashed. Upped it to 1.4, crashed again. I decided to just go back to stock by setting UEFI/BIOS to default. Would not boot to Windows. After multiple resets and power off/on booted to Windows once and froze. This was happening many times over, I thought Windows got corrupted so I changed the hard drive to my backup, still not booting. I also reset the BIOS to stock by pulling the battery. I then thought either Motherboard is messed up or the CPU is. I then decided to swap CPU's with a media rig I had, with an Athlon II X4 620. Took a couple of reboots but finally the original rig booted to Windows on the Athlon and ran fine. The other rig also took two boots but eventually ran good on the FX 8350 (typing on that rig right now). Just wanted your thoughts on this. Why would it not boot up after the failed overclock even with the BIOS reset? Why did the PC start working with a different CPU? I have not yet swapped the CPU's right now, will do it soon.

Hello, First!! I am a german guy who is currently in University (FoodEngenering) and English is not my native language.... I want to spend like 1000-1400 €(1050-1450USD) for an Upgrade. The system is mainly for Gaming and programming software as well as design machinery. Games ( BF 1, Starcraft 2, Dota 2, Skyrim, Just Cause 3....) At the moment I am using 2 1080p 60hz monitors but my new system should be good for 21*9 3440*1440 at a reasonable Hz (Freesync or Gsync) Monitor costs isn't included in the budget ( I am buying the monitor later) I have a running win 10 64bit and Keyboard and Mice, so no need to buy I am currently running: FX 8350 (no oc) Alpenföhn Matterhorn for CPU cooler Gigabyte 990FXA UD3 16 GB g.skile 1866 MHz xfx 7870 GHz edition crossfire ( one is already sold) 480 Gb Crucial SSD 1 TB WD Harddrive PSU: Corsair CSM 650W 80+Gold Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe I bought the System 3 Years ago with only 1 GPU and upgradeI the 2. GPU like 2 Years ago (at the time I bought the 2. 1080p Monitor). I thought about the I5-6600K ( with the NZXT Kraken X62) and a GTX 1070( ASUS or so), paired with 16 GB 3200mhz Corsair RAM on an ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming Aura. ( This is about 1300 € in Germany) Or, since I liked AMD a lot.... wait for ZEN and VEGA.... I don't know Thanks for helping Erik Stolz from Germany

I currently have an FX 8350 with an AMD 7850. I'm looking at upgrading to an MSI 480 (8 GB) or 1060 (6 GB), and they're both about the same price now on Newegg (within $5 after rebates). Gsync/Freesync and xfire/SLI are irrelevant to me. The main thing I'm stuck on is the 480's future potential in DX12 vs the lower driver overhead on the 1060, which may be a bigger advantage with my FX8350. I'd like to keep the card for ideally 2-3 years, and I use a 1080p 144 Hz monitor. What do you guys think would be a better card to pair with my processor?

Hey everyone I'm going to upgrade my setup to increase my rendering times. I'm using Autodesk Maya for my final dissertation project at University and I need to make animations every week so I really need to be able to render pretty fast. In my current setup I have: AMD Fx 8350 GTX 960 12GB DDR3 RAM 500W PSU I was going to upgrade to a 1080 but then I thought I could get a 1060 and get an i7 6700k but that means getting a new motherboard. Basically I'm asking what would you suggest to upgrade to get dat rendering time! My budget is around £600 ($750, €700) Thanks!

I undervolted my FX-8350 and it crashed when running at -0.12V, so by accident I changed the offset to -0.14V instead of -0.10V. The machine actually booted fine and ran through AIDA64, blender and RealBench. But it keeps stuttering and hitching. I checked HWMonitor and I am quite confused as to A. how the system is still running, and B. how on earth did I get those clock speeds??

Hello everyone and thank you for taking your time for reading this post. So lately I've been experiencing this weird problem. Not always, but sometimes, doesn't matter if I shutdown my PC or restart it, the whole system freezes and then there's a BSOD for like a milisecond and the BSOD happens so fast, Windows can't even create a dump file and I cannot find it and analyse the error. The system freezes completely and the upper left corner of my screen is split in half. The left side is a bit bigger than a half and that side is red filled with white dots. The right side of the rectangle is black. Nothing happens and the system won't unfreeze or turn off/restart. I don't really think it has to do with an overheating issue as all my parts actually stay relatively cool both while gaming and doing nothing in the background and while doing some light multitasking. While booting up the PC, the lowest CPU temp I saw was 17°C and it mostly hovers around 20°C. While gaming, it reaches temperatures anywhere between 55°C and 60°C, depending on how much it's getting utilized. The GPU idles at about 30°C and while gaming, anywhere between 65°C and 80°C. My Harddrive and two SSDs hover in the mid 30s. I really don't know why this is happening and while gaming, I have no issues whatsoever, no strange stuttering or crashes or artifacts appearing on screen, everything is perfectly smooth, It only happens when shutting down or restarting. And it's only happening sometimes. Pc specs: CPU: AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor 4.00 GHz GPU: RX 580 8GB Sapphire PSU: 650W Corsair VS650 RAM: 12 GB SSD: 240 GB , 1TB HDD Monitor: AOC Freesync 75HZ 1080p So i got my new RX 580 a few weeks ago expecting it to out perform my old GTX 750 TI FTW which i previously had. I'm having a few problems with my new graphics card, For example i used to play LOL ( League of legends) at 90-280 FPS and same with Minecraft, I used to get 300-600 FPS with my old GTX 750 TI and it wasn't even overclocked and now if i try to play the game with my new RX 580 It fluctuates around 60-140 sometimes drops below 60 which is frustrating. I've overclocked my new GPU to 2100 MHz and have provided 25% Power yet still no change. I've searched everywhere for a solution yet i couldn't find one and so have i decided to come and see if anyone could possibly help me out?

I need to describe the whole problem. I started to have problems with my PC not turning off, instead it restarted, so I had to disable Fast Start to prevent this problem. After some days I started to have problems with some particular CPU and GPU loads restarting my PC. For example using de CPU-Z stress test caused an instant restart, but using prime95 not. Playing Cities Skylines (CPU intensive) also caused a restart, but a game like League of Legends played fine. Playing videos in youtube caused a restar just when the GPU fan starts (I have an indicator in my Gigabyte card for the fan), but other GPU usage never caused a restart, just youtube videos. At this point everything was already weird. After some time I started having problems with booting Windows 10, loading and restaring in the BIOS screen before the login screen. Sometimes I could login, but other I had to wait until it could boot. Tried to format my SSD, but the USB had problems booting to run the Windows install. After so many problems I tried plugin my Laptop drive in my PC to boot, but I had the same problem. I tried my SSD in my laptop and booted fine. It looks like the problem could be the Motherboard/CPU/BIOS. I just wanted to ask because obviously theres no head to head on the things im gonna upgrade So as of right now i have [which also will be listed as photos] An fx 8350 4.4 ghz ddr3 24 GB 1.6 mhz 11.0 CAS and im going to upgrade to an i5 9600k 3.2 mhz 16 cas 16 GB DDR4 +and m2 ssd So i was wondering if anyone had such an upgrade before and what kind of numbers they had , my gpu also is the RX 480 which i plan to upgrade when navi is out.

I wanna ask because im new in overcloacking , i just oc'ed my cpu to 4.4 from 4.0 but it changes the ram settings that i cannot select my 1.6mhz and have to instead go 1.7 and my pc wont run or 1.4 that my pc will run . I could only start my PC when putting it in 1.4 so i wanted to ask. If its possible to make them 1.6 somehow while keeping the OC on the cpu or if its worth having 1.4 ram with and OC'ed cpu or vise versa

Hello, I just recently upgraded my GPU from a GTX 750 to a RX 570. So up until now I would be getting half decent gaming performance on 1080p with no issues. After upgrading to the RX there was a very clear bump in performance but then my PC started shutting itself down mid-game. I checked the temps, GPU was around 40-50c and CPU was around 70-80c at max which is hot but I've seen this processor reach 90c without shutting down. I am using an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 cooler which is a pretty decent aftermarket cooler, also I didn't see any issues with the fan stopping. I tried reinstalling the CPU fan and changing thermal compound, no help. I tried lowering settings, also no help. Anyways, I know this is a pretty old CPU but I'm pretty sure it can handle 1080p gaming at high settings. Also it's not overclocked. Specs Motherboard: Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 PSU: Corsair VS650 GPU: AMD RX 570 CPU: AMD FX 8350 Cooler: Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x4 1666 If anyone has a similar issue or knows something about this, any help would be much appreciated!

I've been thinking of upgrading my CPU, however I'm not fully sure which one to get, or even, if it's worth upgrading at all. Initially, I wanted to go for a 2700x, as it seemed as a sound choice for an update, and since it's an AMD it's not too expensive. Then they announced their 3000 line, so I started thinking if I should just wait for the 3000 equivalent of the 2700x. Another option is that I just stay with what I've got so far, an fx-8350, as my monitor is 4k and 60Hz, so apart from potentially future-proofing, there isn't too much of a reason to get something that will get me way over 60 FPS in games. So what should I then do in terms of CPU on my current rig? Specs: CPU: fx-8350 Graphics card: GTX 1080 Ti RAM: 16GB DDR3
