I've had the core of my PC since 2011 and I have upgraded RAM, GPUs and I have added storage here and there. Now with all the sales abound and DDR5 I am looking for advice on what CPU to upgrade to and what motherboard and RAM to pair with it. Some details: I am a designer Video Graphics AI I build AI models and work with them Avid gamer Currently Satisfactory, MWII, and would play better titles with a better CPU General power user I am looking to get the core of what will be my PC for the next 10 (realistically 5) years. So, I need some help. I am going to buy a new pc, but I'm in some serious doubt about the processor. I can either choose a Ryzen 5 1400 or an i5 7400. They have really similar performance in games. That's not the problem. The problem is future upgrades. As everyone probably knows, Coffee Lake won't use LGA 1151, so it's dead, and AM4+ will probably have another round with Ryzen +. My doubt is: should I get the i5 then next year, upgrade to an i7 7700k, or get the Ryzen 5 and wait for Ryzen +?

I will be comparing these PC's (via UserBenchmark) just as a way to possibly demonstrate how current purchases may hold up in 2022. In general terms: 8GB RAM, costs $10 more today, but DDR4 is faster. The optical drive is obsolete, so that's $20+ saved. SSD and HDD storage are half the price. A motherboard is a motherboard. A case is largely an aesthetic matter. Power supply and coolers haven't changed much. Graphics cards have retained their value due to the mining boom, but I'll be strictly comparing performance. i5-3570k is 1% more powerful than the Ryzen 3 1300x (for $115) GTX 670 is 1% more powerful than the GTX 1050 Ti (for $150) Overall, a build like this would cost ~$620 to build today. (It's held about 59% of its value) The i7-3770k is somewhere between Ryzen 5 1400 and Ryzen 5 1600 ($170 as an average) I'm not sure how to directly compare the GPU. The HD 7970 is 20% more powerful than a GTX 1050 Ti but 40% less powerful than a GTX 1060 (3GB). I'll average that out to $180 and double that to $360 since there's two of them. If there's a more effective metric, do let me know. -$85 (SSD), -$20 (HDD), -$80 (Optical), +$10 (RAM) Overall, a build like this would cost $1150 today (It held about 60% of its value) Overall In both cases, the overall depreciation rate was the same (40%). A $3000 build would have a higher depreciation rate, but apparently, the law of diminished returns did not apply to a $2000 budget. The $1000 build would be a good mid-range PC today. The $2000 build would be a mid-high build. However, there's also the factor of upgrades. Assuming I built that $1000 PC in 2012 and I have that extra saved $1000, there's a lot more I can do. I could sell the PC (for $500-600) and build a new one for $1500-1600. Or, I could upgrade: GTX 1080 ($550), another 8gb DDR3 stick of RAM ($60), 3TB HDD ($75), 500 GB SSD ($150). Not even including selling the old parts to upgrade it, the $1000 PC with $900 upgrades ends up no worse than the $2000 PC. In general, the Power Supply, Cooler and Case do not need an upgrade. So, as a result, spend enough money on ones which you'll be happy to own for a long time, but also don't feel the need to spend a ton of money to future proof them. Video cards age the most so it may just be better to go with midrange. In the storage department, it seems to halve in price every 5 years, but you only need so much storage.

Hello everyone, What is the best future-proofing graphics card for 1920x1080 resolution???(1080p) Nvidia and AMD. (Need answers for both) CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X 8 Core 3.70 GHz and will be using the stock cooler RAM: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory Monitor: I'll be using any 1920x1080 monitor that have 144hz either with gsync, freesync or without. I would really appreciate a bit of your help with putting this stuff together. TLDR: Easily upgradeable rig (in 2-3 years time) capable of running latest titles in High / Very High settings. Which brands of coolers to buy? Where can I save some £££ and where I shouldn't? What kind of RAM to get? When to buy? Is there any event that I should consider waiting for so that prices drop? Are there any big things on the horizon (in terms of tech) that I should wait for to make my build even more future proof? Should I swap any of the components above to something else because you think that it doesn't make any sense?

I decided at some point that I was going to build my second PC sometime in the last 6 months, but I was torn over a few things. I want this thing to be running at least 10 years from the day I built it, but I also want performance. 1. Sealed liquid cooling or air cooling for CPU? I know liquid cooling is better in the cooling aspect of things, but from what I've heard, it may not last as long as old fashioned air. It would help a lot if you could also tell me what model cooler I should use. 2. NZXT or Corsair? (Cool looks vs. sturdy, reliable, I think) 3. SSD or Hard Drive? I'm going to buy a laptop and I fear that if I spend 1K on it, the graphics card or the CPU will be useless in a year. Should I get a high-end graphics card, CPU, or other component to to make sure that doesn't happen? If so, what should that part be?
