Hello everyone, I am planning a build and my goal is to be able to upgrade the CPU and GPU down the road without replacing other parts. Right now my system is configured like this: R5 3600 Rx 5600xt Gigabyte B550 Aorus elite I would like the ability to go to this down the road: A new 4th gen 5000 series CPU (OC) And either a 3080 or a 6800xt (maybe OC depending on the performance uplift) And sufficient cooling the CPU So I have a few questions, what psu wattage would you recommend? 750? 850? I was also planning on getting the 3600 now and then upgrading later because the 3600 should be able to do everything I want it to now, but if you'd recommend just waiting and going straight for the 5600x Id consider it. And lastly I am fairly sure that the B550 Elite shouldn't have trouble with even a 5950x, I wanted to ask you smart people to be sure : ) Thanks a ton!

I'm really worried about buying a computer now and having the accessory industry convert to USB-C. I plan to keep this laptop for five years and I'm afraid buying it now won't future proof me for later. I'm looking at laptops such as the Razer Blade, MBP 2015 and the Microsoft Surface Book. Because these devices don't have an abundant (or at all) amount USB-C ports, I'm worried I'll be locked out later. Thoughts?

Hello there ! I'm setting up my first pc Build(still hooked to mom and dad so no more than 450€) I'm living on an island,so it's a nightmare to get parts and component other than with sellers(and their price are higher than normal of course, i d'ont need any peripherals and already have an hard-drive with windows 10) i have to choose between two builds the first one is,i think, more about future proofing while still keeping low cost: Intel Core i3 6100 (3.7 GHz) (130€) Cooler Master K280 (i have no other choice) Smartteck ST-BX350 - 350W 80Plus Bronze (still no other choice) HyperX Fury Noir 8 Go (2x 4Go) DDR4 2133 MHz CL14 (i can just buy 4 gigs for less but... future proofing) ASUS Z170-P(130€) (for future proofing and overclocking later) The whole would cost me 430€ The other build: Same case, power supply and Ram Gigabyte GA-H110M-DS2 (69€) Intel Core i5 6400 (2.7 GHz) (200€) (the whole for 449€) The problem is,i don't know wherether i should go with one or another,i d'ont plan on Heavy gaming so no Gpu for now,i will be moving to Quebec next year, where price would be more reasonable.(this i3 and i5 are also the only model i can have right now and i can't wait, the reasons would be too long to explain) And i would like to know if the +70€ for an i5 is actually worth it Thanks for any reply

Hello guys, First of all I should say that most likely I would keep this build for 4+ years and that I play at 1080p 60Hz. Basically I have around $1300 budget, but in my country parts are a bit more expensive so all I want is your opinion which build is better for down the road since I will keep this build for a long time. BUILD 1 : CPU: RYZEN 5 1400 GPU: MSI GTX 1070 AERO 8G OC RAM: AVEXIR 8GB (1x8gb) DDR4 2400MHz CL16 HDD: SEAGATE Barracuda 2TB 7200rpm MOBO: ASUS PRIME A320M-K PSU: EVGA 450B Bronze CASE: MS SPECTRUM BUILD 2: CPU: RYZEN 5 1600 GPU: GIGABYTE GTX 1060 ITX OC 6GB RAM: CORSAIR 16GB (2X8) Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz HDD: SEAGATE Barracuda 2TB 7200rpm MOBO: MSI B350M GAMING PRO PSU: EVGA 450B Bronze CASE: MS SPECTRUM As far as the BUILD 1 is concerned I wouldn't have enough money for 16GB RAM, I might add additional 8 down the line or try to somehow save more to add it straight away. I plan to game on this PC and I highly doubt I will do any type of encoding, rendering etc. Only stuff I use is Visual Studio and T-SQL for my college which would be fine on 1400. Basically my question is which PC would be more future proof to make me able to game even in 4 years time (obviously with lowering details).

HI! I'm new here though I have watched a few of the videos. I have something I was wondering and forgive my technical ignorance if this is obvious. I have been following the kickstarter for the new NSG S0 case. The one that does not require any fans or power to cool the system just 40 pounds of AL. I looked at what CPU's and GPU's it can handle and apparently, short of a fire inside the case, it will stay cool inside no mater what. This got me thinking, if this case can keep all modern parts cool will it be able to keep everything in the future cool as well? For example if we all had the case would we never have to think about fans or tubes again? Or is it more likely that more powerful parts will shift the focus away from energy saving and require more cooling?

Hi I need some suggestions and advise about next gen hardware so far I’ve been using my current monitor for about 6 or so years now and plan on upgrading to a new monitor but I would like to get one which I most likely wouldn’t need to replace for a while any suggestions would help. currently I’m considering the Asus XG27UQ for the 4K 120hz performance and I plan on using the Xbox series x and I understand that I won’t get 120frames at 4K out of the Xbox but this monitor won’t just be used on a console. A question I have about this suggestion is that the xbox series x won’t have a display port on it instead opting for a HDMI 2.1 port but the monitor only has a HDMI 2.0 port and display port 1.4. If I were to purchase an adapter in the future for HDMI 2.1 to display port 1.4 would there be a noticeable affect on performance or not? my price range at max for a monitor is $2000 aud ($1300 usd)

Your Impressions/Review on Asus ROG's B350-F 1. Is it capable for Overclocking!? (Or only happens with the X-series) 2. Dose it come with an onboard WiFi card or internal WiFi card adaptor is required to be purchase!? 3. Can it hold a 1070 Ti (AMP edition) Horizontally!? 4. Or what the best affordable B-Series Motherboard? Thank you.

Getting a GPU in October. I want to be able to use it to play games at good frame rates for as long as I can without upgrading (at 1080p). It's basically is the 1070 worth the extra £150 especially as in 2/3 or however many years when it might struggle I can just SLI or would a 1060 be more than enough and it just be less expensive to buy a new card when it starts to struggle?

Hi Guys and Girls ! I sold my GTX 660 DC 2 a year ago and wanted to buy a new GPU . So with all these Graphics Card's coming out lately I wanted to buy a fresh GTX 10-Series Card to be able to play my Graphics deamnding games again and so on. (Rejoin the Masterrace ? - Check) My CPU is an I5 4670k on stock clock and I don't know whether to go for an 1060 or 1070; the 1060 is around 100 Euros Cheaper where I live, but keep in mind I only have a 1080p monitor, still I kinda want the 1070 to be "future-proof" for a few years. Do you think my CPU would bottleneck the GPU'S? If so which card would you recommend me to buy ? What aftermarket producer ? Do you think I should try to buy a cooler for my CPU and try overcloking it ? (I have no experience yet even though it'S a K-Chip ) Thanks for helping me out, greatly appreciated !! Lots of Love, Adil

Below are a handful of questions I have concerning motherboards and I would really appreciate input on anything you are knowledgeable about! Between 1151 (z170) and 2011-v3 (x99) which would best protect me moving forwards concerning "future proofing"? It's been established that 1151 sockets are just getting started and we can expect AT LEAST the next line of none-extreme CPUs to support the socket (this is a big deal for me). What are the chances that 2011-v3 will see a new line of compatible CPUs in the future at all? Assuming that I've decided whether to go with one chipset or the other at this point, which Motherboards would you guys suggest? I don't know anything about motherboards (I hope to change this), and would really appreciate any anecdotes/opinions/experiences/expectations you might like to share. I would need a board (and processor) that can support quad channel ddr4 (I have a 32 gb dominator set) and sli 980 ti kingpins. For what it's worth, I plan to replace the GPUs with Pascal titans (or whatever they end of being called), so if there is an expectation that they will require more bandwidth thus making current boards obsolete; I'd love to hear about it before hand haha

Hi i am trying to find out if i should upgrade to the new 900-series nvidia cards. I currently have a Evga gtx 780 sc w/acx 3gb card, the reason i want an upgrade is that i can't run 3D with full settings on my current monitor. Additionally, i want to upgrade to a multi-monitor setup in the near future. Im already running out of vram in certain titles. So, should i buy another Evga 780(probably used at a reduced price) Or try and make it a bit more "future proof" and just sell my current card and upgrade? And if so, am i better of waiting for the next major card release from nvidia before i do that?

Hi! This is my first post on here so I'm excited to get some good advice, and feel free to let me know if I should edit or add anything. Essentially, I'm trying to figure out what a good future-proof upgrade to my current pc would be. I have knowledge of components and stuff, but I think people on the internet know more than me. My Current Build: MSI GTX 970 Gaming graphics card: link intel i5-4690k procesor w/ stock cooler: link asus B85M-G r2.0 motherboard: link Evga 500watt psu: link 2x4gb ddr3 ripjaws ram: link WD blue 1tb hdd: link bitfenix comrade atx mid tower: link Wireless: none, I run off of wired internet. But I plan on buying a wireless adapter in the future, I don't need one now though So, that's the build I have. Trust me, I know it's not the best I could have done, especially with the motherboard and such. This is why I want to make some upgrades to it now. I want to upgrade the case, power supply, and motherboard primarily. I want it to be something I can keep for a long time. For the case I really was looking at the Corsair Carbide 400c (link). The reason for this is that I love the look of the case, the magnetic fan covers, and the power supply cover. All of those would help me out a lot (the $99 price point doesnt hurt either). As far as power supplies go I'm open to suggestions, I was going to find a good modular psu at around 1000watts and go with that. When I was choosing a motherboard things got difficult. I at first wanted to get the msi z97 gaming 5 motherboard (link). This seemed not too expensive and was definitely way better than the board I have now. But then, I realized I wouldn't be able to upgrade to skylake or ddr4 without buying a new board. So, I began to look at the msi z170a gaming m5 (link). This is where I found some trouble. I do not think that the LGA1151 motherboards are backwards compatible with the LGA1150 chips and ddr4 motherboards are not compatible with ddr3 (which are the processor and ram I have). My questions are, should I get the newer motherboard and then also buy a skylake cpu and ddr4? If so, what cpu and ram should I get? Also, should I get a different motherboard than the z170a? I want to make my computer compatible for a while so I don't have to make a ton of major upgrades like I'm doing now. Also, if I get a new processor, should i get a cooler? What cooler should I get? I would prefer air cooled right now, as jumping to liquid cooled would be a bit expensive for me. I don't have a ton of money, but I'm of course willing to save and wait. So, if anyone could let me know what I should do, and what I should buy now or buy later, that would be fantastic. Thanks in advance! As a side note, I live in the United States, if that affects shipping or pricing

Hey guys. I was wondering whether you could help me decide on this. I'm currently considering a gaming rig build that contains a core i5 and a gtx 970, which sits nicely within my budget. However I recently got a bit more money to expand the budget. I'm now considering whether to upgrade my CPU to a core i7 or simply getting a better graphics card. With the recommended system requirements for Metal Gear Solid 5 being a core i7, and the general talk i've been hearing about future games being more CPU dependent, which should i go for? I only the need the pc to run games at 1080p, and I realize the gtx970 is more than capable of that right now. I guess my real question is, which option, the i7 CPU or a better graphics card (gtx 980 i guess), will have better future compatibility and be more long-term durable? Thanks in advance guys

Hi folks, So I'm not really interested in the next generation CPUs or for now the i7. I do have a future build in mind but I wanted to wrangle a little debate which could influence future buying decisions. In short if you upgrade to the next gen cpu you have to upgrade ram and motherboard. But if you stick with the i7 in three or four years your looking to be out of date and you're not taking advantage of next gen features. Even if you are saving a bunch of money. So my question is... Should we be buying next gen at extra money and no benefit now but all nice upgrades will be compatible, and 4k and 5k possible, or should we be buying current gen and risk being left behind? As I say I have a build in mind which includes the i5 and the gtx 980. I think we all eventually want 4k gaming... Which path should we take? So please comment current gen or next gen? If you had a budget of $2600 (picked out of the air but I wanted money to be limited, if we all had cash to spare we wouldn't hesitate for next gen) what would you do? Budget should include peripherals and operating system.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had data on how the price and performance of computer hardware holds up over time? I guess what I'm looking for is a chart or graph that has a timeline of all graphics cards (or cpu, ram, etc.) , the specs, price on release and benchmarks. With this data there could be a formula that can estimate the lifespan of your hardware, price performance over time, and more. I was hoping someone might have compiled this data and put something like that together.

Hello all, I was wondering whether i should replace my I5 3570k with one of AMD's 8 core CPU's? I keep being told that games are going to be using more cores and my I5 will struggle to keep up with next gen games! Is this just "Fan-boy" talk, or is it the truth? Also, if i did get a new MOBO and CPU would i have to purchase a new operating system? Any thoughts are appreciated!

Budget (including currency): Looking at between 1500 - 180 pounds Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: General work during work from home period and gaming on new games e.g Fallen order, Cyberpunk, Assassins Creed valhalla Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I have had a gaming PC since 2013 that has only just given up and died on me, so I have been looking at some parts as I would like to build the next one I have myself. I have been doing some research and would appreciate some advice from more experienced builders and thought this would be a good place to come. Specs i am looking at (am looking on scan.co.uk as they have an insurance that protects against damage during installation for a minimal price around £40 for a £1500 system): Intel i7-9700k --> my previous system was overclocked by the builders, i dont initially plan to overclock but with some help would be looking to further down the line, or straight away if its easy and safe? ASUS Strix Z390-F Gaming --> unsure of motherboard but wanted to buy something that would allow me to put other drives in and future proof it for the next 5 years or so, as previously didnt invest in a good motherboard, what do people think of this, i have read good reviews so far? And has a sleek minimal amount of RGB Gigabyte RTX 2070 super Gaming OC --> i had a question when it came to speed of graphics card, how much difference would a card for £527 with 1605mhz compare to a £580 card with 1800mhz would it be worth investing in the more expensive card? Corsair Vengeance 16Gb (8gbx2) at 3600 mhz --> is it worth investing in 3600 or would i be better off with a 3200 kit with RGB with future proofing in mind? Power supply advice would be greatly appreciated... Corsair Hyrdo Series H100i RGB --> Cooling wise, my previous build had water cooling and has run sub 60 degrees for everything i have used for so have seen the benefit, but have a little concern about fitting it myself and if it leaks. Any advice? My main question is around storage: 1. What brands do you recommend for NVME SSD's? I have been looking at WD Blue ? 2. My previous computer about 4 years ago had a SATA 2.5 inch SSD installed from kingston, which has my OS on, could i use this for my new system as it is a fully licensed version of windows 10, or should i invest in a new one to be safer and get a free version of windows to put on my m.2 NVME drive? 3. If i use a new m.2 for my OS could i put the old SSD and 2TB hardrive for my new build as extra drives on purchase, waiting for a new possibly 3TB hard drive ? So overall how long would you be happy to use a hard drive for ? (i.e have a 500gb m.2, 256GB SSD SATA, and a 2TB Seagate HDD , and could i leave buying the new 3TB drive till later?) Case wise I have not selected anything but am looking at an NZXT black case Has anyone used the Scan.co.uk warranty for installation before, if so was it any good? Also, does anyone have any advice for a first time builder buying an expensive set of parts. I am looking to invest now and slowly invest in new peripherals as I get paid over the next few months? Appreciate anyone who can provide advice as there are lots of questions
