  1. It's been quite some time for me... My last build was in 2016 and it was my very first custom watercooling loop as well - I learned many a things. My current specs can be looked at in my profile, if you're interested. But now, it is time again to build a high end system. Budget (including currency): 3.5k € for the PC system itself Country: Germany Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Dota 2, Cyberpunk 2077, CSGO, Indie games, AAA games, Lightroom, VS code, Handbrake, Firefox and Chrome with at least 200 tabs each ... and many more things (I like to dabble) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I'll be upgrading from a i7 6700K + GTX 1080 system I'll be buying in the coming months Resolution and refresh rate: I'll be taking recommendations for this as well. I am currently on a Dell U3821DW and I definitely want and need to upgrade. So, 144Hz is a must and I want to go back to a minimum of 2 screens. I think the sweet spot would be around the 32" mark. Regarding resolution, that is the biggest blank that I am drawing: I'd love to go 4k for both because of productivity - because 4k is just crisp. In the case of 4K: singleplayer titles would be played in this resolution, multiplayer titles would be played downscaled My build for now looks like this: PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 4.5 GHz 16-Core Processor (€607.99 @ Mindfactory) Thermal Compound: Noctua NT-H2 10 g Thermal Paste (€24.90 @ Alza) Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS ATX AM5 Motherboard (€299.90 @ Alza) Memory: G.Skill Trident Z5 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory (€281.99 @ Alternate) Storage: Western Digital Black SN770 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (€129.00 @ Galaxus) Storage: Western Digital Black SN770 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (€129.00 @ Galaxus) Storage: Western Digital Black SN770 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (€129.00 @ Galaxus) Video Card: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Video Card (€1095.99 @ Alternate) Case: Fractal Design Torrent ATX Mid Tower Case (€186.18 @ notebooksbilliger.de) Power Supply: be quiet! Dark Power 12 850 W 80+ Titanium Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (€245.29 @ Amazon Deutschland) Total: €3129.24 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2023-04-07 19:07 CEST+0200 Short explanation on some of the stuff: Cooling? I will most likely go custom water cooling by EKWB or another company again Case fans? Most likely be quiet! or Noctua fans - my information may be outdated, but those two have served me quiet (huehue) well in the past DDR5 64GB Ram? To be honest, just for the future proofing 3x2TB PCIe 4.0? I already ordered stuff for my new server (see my post for that topic) which will also definitely be used to store all my backups and stuff that I currently have on my internal HDDs. Thus, I don't think it is necessary for me to have any HDD in my PC anymore, but I still want to have enough performance and storage in the PC (yes, I am a data hoarder...) Questions regarding my stuff: CPU: Just like Linus, I want to go full AMD - I like their current line ups and performance numbers. The 3D CPUs take too big a hit in the productivity department for my taste, even though I most likely wouldn't notice it. Is the 7950X too overpowered and may the 7700X be enough? I looked at the Gamers Nexus benchmarks and think that the 7700X may be enough for me On the other side, the 7950X would most likely be the better future proofing solution for virtually...everything Motherboard: I definitely need help for this... GPU: Same argument like CPU and also I don't like the pricing on the new RTX series, but I may think about getting a RTX 4080 if the price is somewhat lower. Or is the 4080 so much better than the 7900 XTX that the price is justified? I only see the uplift in the raytracing benchmarks (thx Gamers Nexus again) Case: Originally, I planned a mini-ITX build, but...there aren't that many options for all the hardware and stuff, so MIDI it is. Torrent fine? Any other case that is better at a lower price point? Power Supply: PCPP says that 850W is enough, is it though? Any input is appreciated PS: as someone who built his last system in 2016... I hate everything about those prices right now
  2. Hello all, I've attached some images of the gaming rig I'm looking to buy from Cyberpower PC Could you cast your eyes over it and suggest any recommended changes? I want the rig to be able to 4K game and be as future proof as possible. Thank you in advance Arron (UK)
  3. Budget (including currency): - 2,000-3,000 USD. Country: - Portland, Oregon, USA. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: - Gaming, a bit of AAA gaming... - Insurgency Sandstorm, Deep Rock Galactic, Doom Eternal, 7 Days to Die, etc. - VR gaming (Quest 2, Rift). - I might get into developing VR games? Why are you upgrading: - Running a 8 year old build I got help with in college that I've only upgraded with a 1080 GPU and replaced the CPU heatsink on. - Would like a build I dont touch for a few years again and the new AMD GPU and CPU look nice. - Existing Build: PSU: Antec NeoECO C NeoECO 620C 620W ATX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply MBoard: MSI Z77A-G41 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS Case: Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW DT GAMING ACX 3.0, 8GB GDDR5X, RGB LED, 10CM FAN, 10 Power Phases, DX12, 08G-P4-6284-KR CPU: Intel Core i5-3470 Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.2 GHz LGA 1155 77W BX80637i53470 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2500 RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMP16GX3M2A1600C10 Storage: Seagate Desktop HDD ST1000DM003 1TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive, SAMSUNG 830 Series 128GB Solid State Drive Notes: I've never messed with OCing or having to adjust RAM frequencies and such things. Should I just buy a prebuilt? I would like a front USB-C for linking my Quest 2. I also am interested/pondering strapping it under my sit/stand desk. I could take or lose RGBs, as long as everything looks neat and clean. I like the idea of a White build. I like the idea of a SFF build. 4. Hey, I'm planning to build my first gaming pc (around 800-850€) and I'm not sure if the parts I wanna buy are future proof for the next gen games which will probably rely on multiple core performance... I thought about one of these options for my build: R3 3300X & RX 5600 XT R5 3600 & RX 5600 XT R3 3300X & RX 5700. (I can't afford R5 3600 with RX 5700 and I can't find a RTX 2060 right now that is cheaper than a RX 5700 so that's not an option.) So my question would be if any of these are future proof (for at least 3 years, I won't upgrade my pc for at least for this time because I can't afford it...) or would I need better components for a future proof gaming pc? I don't plan to play many AAA titles, just a few, but I'd like to play in 1080p with 60fps or more at mid to max settings. And I would prefer it to not overclock anything if possible for a future proof pc because I don't know exactly how it works, I don't wannt to break anything and I would like my pc to live for more than just a couple of years. I'm worried about the 4c/8t of the 3300X but also about the 6GB VRAM of the 5600 XT... but as I said, I can't get the 6c/12t with 8GB VRAM option.
  5. Yesterday, PC Gamer posted an article, reporting a NAND flash shortage. They say this is going to cause SSD prices to go up by 10-16%. I'm planning on upgrading my PC sometime in the summer (not exactly sure if in June or August). I already have a 120GB Samsung SSD and a 2TB HDD, which I plan to keep, so I can wait for the price to drop again in late summer or fall this year. So is the price going to drop then or should I stock up on a 500GB SSD? It would be better to buy it then, if I don't really need it now, right?
  6. Hello Peeps, What would be a recommended configuration for someone looking to build a desktop for game design, to use the latest game design engines? Preferably a configuration that is as future proof as possible. There is no ceiling to the budget. Some other softwares to be used in general: Adobe Photoshop Blender Similar rendering software, possibly Maya etc and VR Compatible Games. (Will I need any additional hardware for this?) I am assuming the configuration will allow me to play most AAA titles on Ultra, should I add any additional hardware for these? Thanks in advance!
  7. My cpu is E5 1620 v2, currently running with a gtx 1060 6gb Asus Dual OC. I want to play games at around 2k or 4k and was wondering which upgrades my pc needs. so will my cpu bottle neck a gtx 1080?
  8. So this is my first real PC build, i'm looking to put something together that will tackle anything I throw at it while not going over the top with price. i'm interested in 4k gaming and media streaming as well as VR and eventually down the track I want to look at custom water loops and serious overclocking, so I will need something that can be expandable and is fairly future proof. This is my current parts list, just looking for some opinions and maybe suggestions of changes from more knowledgeable peeps. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/svsmpb
  9. "My main goal is to get a list and some knowledge down before black friday and cyber monday hit. Uses for computer will focus on music. I use studio one as my DAW. I will want to be able to edit 4k videos on this machine, but would like to keep cost of video card low if possible because I won't be doing video very often. My budget will peak near 2,000 US$ assuming I can save a few hundred here and there with sales. Future expansion is a huge plus for me, so if you can convince me to get quality stuff, I'll pay forward for it. If it goes a little over 2000, thats ok." So I posted something similar to this on PCPARTPICKER without too much luck because it seems like 90% of builders are focused on gaming. Don't include a monitor in the build, but keep and mind that I want to run 3440x1440. After doing more research, I think my focus should be on the MOBO and Processor to be future proof. MOBO: 2 slots for video cards, capable of running 64 GB RAM, firewire or any other ports that would helpful. I'm assuming I'll want an I7 processor. RAM for the time being 32 GB should be fine? The case is important too of course, Ive considered the be quiet 600 and the fractal designs R5, but would consider anything. It can be large if it helps. As for the video card, people have recommended the Geforce 1070, but thats as spendy as I would like to get if possible. something cheaper would be nice to focus on other key components, but I'm not sure how the ultra wide and wanting 4k capabilities will affect things. Dont worry about keyboard and mouse and I'm upgrading from an old laptop BTW. Hopefully this is comprehensive and I look forward to any input.
  10. Hi guys I'm searching for a am4 CPU alternatives of ryzen cpu B350 am4 mobo I need a cpu with igpu An APU ????? Thanks for upcoming help Peace
  11. I think that Nvidia and AMD should focus on having USB type C instead of HDMI or DVI considering USB-C is the future. If more and more displays would start using usb-c this would be awesome. Imagine having only usb type c for everything. Not having to find the right dongle or the right cable for your monitor but only having to use one type! What do you think?
  12. I have a budget of $300 dollars for a processor. At the moment i cant get my hands on a 5820k or a 6800k for that price and i need a processor now. The two CPU's i have been looking at are the i7 7700k and the Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 Haswell. I need it to overclock well as im doing a custom liquid loop and i need it to be intel so i can hackintosh. 6 cores is preferable but i need the best upgrade path as im going to upgrade in the next few years. I am leaning towards the xeon as it has 6 cores and means that i have the 5960x and the 6950x which will be more power than i need over the next 5 years that i intend to stay on the same socket type. Socket 2066 motherboards are too expensive and too hard to get my hands on. Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated. Lastly i have always been looking to get into the extreme edition platform.
  13. So after hours of researching.. I've decided to go with Intel for my Cpu rather than AMD as there were rumours that they are gping to kill AM3 + socket . When I build my rig... I want it to last for 5 to 6 years . But I'm confused whether to go with lga 1151 or lga 1156 or lga 2011v3 Other parts Gpu Rx480 8Gb for 2 years and then buy another one and run them in crossfire RAM 2x8GB DDRR4
  14. What do you guys think of this build? I'll used it for web development (basically it's a workstation), run Fallout 4 at least, and some 3D Rendering. As much as possible I don't want to exceed $1000, this whole build costs 1207.28 in PCPartpicker. I think my absolute max price will be $1200. Last week I posted here and decided to compose a better build today. NOTES: No overclocks planned for this build, 2 monitors preferred (it's a workstation after all) It makes it easy to preview the webpage on one monitor while coding on another. Should I stick with this processor or can I still get away with an 8-Core AMD since this is only 4 Cores, unless its hyperthreaded? But I'm told here that Intel can execute more instructions/cycle even if AMD has more clock speed so I'm leaning towards intel. But then the number of cores can be a game changer? I know the 32GB RAM can be overkill but going to buy another pair months later seems like a hassle. It's better to have it all in there right now. Also, is there a component here that can bottleneck another? Can the graphics card really support 2 HDMI monitors? I looked at screenshots of the card and the ports look different. I don't plan to buy another PC in 5 years so will this build be future proof for at least 5 years? 15. I’m having a PC built and I’ve had to wait for a very long time to get a good gaming pc. I read a lot to inform myself going from almost zero knowledge on this topic and I’m putting almost all the money I got into this. So what do you guys think, is the i5 9600K with an Asus RTX 2080 dual oc 8Gb and 16Gb RAM a good PC, exclusively for gaming? I’m planning to use it to plug it to a 46” tv I bought trough HDMI cable to play my games like that, I think the tv is 1080p and 60 hz (dunno if that’s actually good or bad). Is it a good investment for the future as well, as in will it allow me to play new games in the coming day 10 years?
  16. So I need a GPU for my current rig: -Ryzen 5 2600 Clocked at 4GHz -2x8gb Corsair vengeance 3200Mhz -AB350M Pro4 Asrock -Bunch of HDD and fans So for my budget I can get an Rx Vega 64 from AMD side and an RTX 2060 from the NVIDIA side. For models I have chosen: -ASUS RX Vega64 ROG Strix OC, which is around 470 USD -GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2060 Gaming OC Pro, which is around 460 USD Note: the rtx 2070 is way more expensive - 650 USD so is the Strix RTX 2060 - 510 USD I am going to use the video card for 1080p 144hz gaming and I will probably change my monitor to a new 1440p in 1 or 2 years time. Suggestion? - the Vega or RTX I know about the power consumption thing so I don`t want it as a first argument, I am looking at performace in games not my electricity bill Edit: If I get a Vega 64, I am 100% going to try the lottery of undervolting.
  17. So the previously posted post got me curious. How am I in the way of Future Proofing? I realize my GPU isn't like really up to snuff, but if I went back to an RX580 8GB card? 18. Is the new i3 9100f future proof with a good mother board + gtx 1060 / 1660 (zotac)...... Or should i get ryzen 5 3500 with rx 550 gpu and good motherboard
  19. Hello, Just opened my account on the forums. Happy to be here! I'm out of college and am saving up to build a strong PC that I can use for gaming, multitasking (I have a bad habit of leaving things open across multiple virtual desktops), doing normal work, occasional artwork as a hobby, video/music editing, and data storage. Basically, I wouldn't consider myself a daily movie and video editor, but I want to know that whatever I throw at it, the PC can handle it. Also, team red ftw. Ideal budget would be in the 1200-1500 range tops. What I've picked so far... AMD Ryzen 7 1800x CPU Cryorig H7 (non-RGB) Cooling MSI ProSeries B350M Mortar mATX Mobo ('cuz it has USB Type-C) MSI Gaming Radeon RX 580 Armor Mk2 8Gb OC EVGA 600 BQ PSU Patriot Viper DDR4 3200MHz RAM Dual-Band WiFi/Bluetooth PCI-e Adapter (simply for the sake of convenience) 4Tb Seagate Barracuda 3.5" Hard Disk for long-term data storage My Crucial MX300 750gb SSD for software and games - already have this Windows 10 (maybe pro, idk if I need the drive encryption yet) What I'm stuck on... Boot disk I'd like to get an NVMe SSD that'll provide a pretty nice speed boost for quite some time in terms of OS, and I currently have a WD Black in my laptop and I love it. I'm stuck between the equivalently-priced WD Black 250gb and Corsair MP500 120gb drives, just because I don't know how much the speed difference (2gbps vs 3gbps, respectively) will make. Case I want a Micro-ATX case that will be compact while still also offering upgradeability, like: Tecware Quad: https://www.tecware.co/quad Kolink Sanctuary: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/kolink-sanctuary-micro-atx-cube-case-black-ca-02k-kk.html Am I making a mistake looking at those? Should I consider something like a mini tower instead? My primary goal case-wise is small form factor, high density, while still offering good thermals and performance. Cooling It seems that liquid cooling is a popular choice for Ryzen users. I am open to any solution, but I chose air cooling for its lower price and lower failure risk mechanically. Plus, I've heard that AIOs tend to need replacement once in a few years. I'd like to avoid that problem, if possible. GPU I am definitely a Radeon guy, and like everyone else, I'm trying to find something that's feasible for long-term use at a low price. Does this mean changing to the 4gb card instead of 8gb? What about a different gpu model? Also, crossfire? Future-proofing Yeah, maybe there's no such thing. But, I'd like to make a machine with a powerful, competent CPU. I'm willing to accept that I may need to swap out the GPU once in a few years, but I'd like to invest in worthwhile, long-life components so I can hang onto that machine for at least 5 to 10 years. So, that's my plan. Any thoughts? PC Part Picker link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xLZnGG
  20. I've got an Alienware 13R3 with a GTX 1060 and a Core i7 7700HQ and I'm really happy with it. As of now, I can get 60FPS on anything with close to max settings at 1440p, the laptop's native resolution. Another reason I got this was the relatively cheap proprietary Alienware Graphics Amplifier, which I've seen as low as $130, has positive reviews, and is basically designed to work well in tandem with my laptop. I'm curious as to how future-proof this setup will be. How long will the 7700HQ be able to hold its own at 1440p, paired with basically any GPU in that timeframe?
  21. Im planning to build my first Gamming Pc in the coming year or 2, If i were to start buying stiff what parts would be universal for future conponents(gpus, cpus, cases, cables, psu, etc.) if i were to change my build I dea and not have to worrie about new stuff comming put for a time span of ~1 year? Im making this post bc i’ve heard romors about new cpus and gpus comming verry soon(in like 3 months). My guessing on “universal” conponents are just the PSU. If there is more conponents that wont get out date in the time span that fast what else would it be?
  22. Hello, I'm having trouble selecting a motherboard for my new system... I need an ATX AM4 mobo that: Will last me about 5-7 years / reliable. Has quality power phases / good overclocker. Under 150 dollars. motherboards im considering: Asrock X370 Killer SLI/ac MSI B350 Gaming Pro Carbon Asrock AB350 Pro4 I'll appreciate it so much if you guys can help me. Please let me know if there is something better out there that fit my needs.
  23. Hello, I am looking to buy a laptop, but I can't seem to choose or fix my mind on a particular one. I am a student and I am trying to get a new laptop. My parents said that once I get it, I will have to use it for 4-5 years. Because of this, I am currently trying to look for a more future proof laptop. Is there any laptop out there that is good enough? Although I don't particularly plan to use it for video rendering or whatnot... I do play games pretty often. Almost every summer, I visit Korea and I want to be able to play games often. Because of this, the laptop should have: good graphics: mx150, 940mx is fine ultrabook: weight doesn't matter too much, but thickness does budget: < $800 (I can go up to $1000, but I prefer not to) Display: IPS panel...quiet a bit important I do have a interest in 2 in 1 and touchscreen but its not necessary. So far I have looked at: Acer Swift 3 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0746P25QX/ref=psdc_13896615011_rv_t3_B0786TPWBP (Not to sure if it will be too future proof) Asus Vivobook S - https://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-i7-8550U-GeForce-Windows-S510UN-EH76/dp/B0786TPWBP (Lot of review say build quality is a bit questionable) HP Spectre 15 - https://www.amazon.com/HP-Spectre-15-BL152NR-TouchScreen-Laptop/dp/B0799849GX/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1526346851&sr=1-4&keywords=hp+spectre+x360&dpID=41kSMygdEAL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch#customerReviews (1. Its expensive, 2. refurbished) Lenovo Flex 15 - https://www.amazon.com/2018-Lenovo-Flex-15-Laptop/dp/B07CX7Y1ZW/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1526526795&sr=8-6&keywords=940mx+lenovo+yoga (I would rather get the HP). Asus UX331 - https://www.amazon.com/UX331UN-WS51T-Ultra-Slim-WideView-Processor-Fingerprint/dp/B078T1715R/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1526606200&sr=8-5&keywords=mx150&dpID=41oYWmSOEcL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch (compared to HP Spectre...nah) Acer Aspire 5 - https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-A515-51G-515J/dp/B075KCJHMD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526606200&sr=8-1&keywords=mx150&dpID=51HItPP1h3L&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch (questionable build quality, pretty thicc, and tn panel) I'm confused. I initially wanted HP Spectre because of the design and specs...but is the price worth it? Refurbished? Thanks...
  24. i m going to build a new pc with i7 8700kgtx 1070z370 motherboard16gb ddr4 3000mhzcorsair vs650w psu2tb hddi m going to use this rig mainly for gaming by pairing it with a 144hz samsung monitormy question is that ,how future proof is my rig ?
  25. So im at a loss here. I cant decide between http://www.aorus.com/Product/Features/X5 v6 or https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RYZ6INW/ref=crt_ewc_img_gw_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER along with a 1080... My budget is around $2000 and I make and edit a good bit of footage. Im tilted towards the Aorus because of the "Stream engine" which basically seems like a built in capture card making my streams and recording seem alot less dependent on taking control of the cpu or gpu. Please help a guy by leaving opinions as I never fully trust my own.
