And in a mini ITX form factor. I usually use laptops, current using a Zepherus Duo 15, with a 3060, and Ryzen 5800H I really love it, but I'm looking to replace it with a desktop as I'm no longer on the road working away. I mostly use it for Fusion 360 and gaming. Currently displaying on an older 49" samsung ultrawide (1080p version). Currently with my laptop I do find that playing games such as No Mans Sky, I definitely can not get even 30 fps on ultra with the larger resolution. I'll knock the resolution to 1080p and get by. When using Fusion I find that many operations especially nesting operation take for ever if they finish at all. These are larger projects. My biggest issue I'm having right now is determining what kind of GPU and CPU to go with. From what I understand Fusion is both CPU heavy for CAM computation as well as GPU heavy for rendering. Honestly I'm fairly unsure what kind of GPU I'm looking for, especially with the large monitor resolution (3840×1080), which I'll upgrade some day to a higher resolution. Even with the CPU, I'm not sure if AMD or Intel is better suited for Fusion. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if you can point me to some information! Thanks, Jesse

Budget (including currency): No real budget, but I prefer to keep my kidney(s) Country: France Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Fusion360, Solidworks (rendering and modeling), maybe editing videos. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): - You can view the complete list of current parts here, the prices are a rough estimate and can be ignored mostly. - No previous parts to use - Must be Windows since Solidworks is Windows-only - Later two monitors will be added, probably 1440p 60hz - As silent as possible, within the abilities. Watercooling is not an options since this PC wil not be maintained by me or the person who it's for. The build listed below started from following the Puget Systems recommended systems for Solidworks. There I found that AMD Threadripper would be best for rendering because of the massive amount of cores, even though most pre-builds I found online are built with Intel. For RAM I read somewhere that it's best to use as many of the slots as possible, hence the 8GB sticks. For the case I went with a big boi Corsair Crystal 680X to maximize airflow, but I'm looking into a smaller mid-tower or rack solution if it's needed, this is something I'll have to check. Sound and airflow would still be most important. The biggest help I would need is with choosing a decent GPU for this kind of work. Currently a Nvidia Quadro RTX 6000 is chosen, but not for a particular reason. Let me know if you need verification that this is indeed for Winter-, oops, I mean, marble loving YouTuber©. Hey there! I'm a student and currently looking for a laptop to replace my current HP one. I have a budget of around 1.2k USD (flexible) and I intend to do CAD work on fusion 360 and other softwares. I currently have a HP Elitebook 820 g3 with a i5-6200U so I need something more powerful. What do you guys suggest I get? Also, is the increase in silicon prices affecting laptop prices, if so, should I buy now or later once they get cheaper?

Currently using a second hand CAD machine from an office. I've got a pretty intensive Blender project underway spanning the space of several months and have been seriously suffering with cycles render times. This is a pretty CPU intensive task so that's the main focus of the upgrade / rebuild. I'm also planning on doing some Eevee rendering (which uses the GPU) - add on top of that the fact that my current GPU is not compatible with Premiere. Struggling to justify the steep costs however as I'm not much of a gamer. I do also produce music but I don't see this as being a big factor in my reason to upgrade. Another struggle I've had is big lag with large CAD assemblies. I'd basically like my computer to be a beast at all of the softwares listed above. I've very quickly thrown together a parts list with some help from a friend and was hoping for some feedback. I would be very appreciative of any advice! And for those interested, I'm toying with the idea of throwing this all in a Mac G5 case as I think they're damn good looking. I've got a 3D printer to do all the mounting with. I have a set of drawings (top down, side elevation, rear elevation). I need to convert them into a 3D model, but I have no idea how. Is there way I could hand them over to software and have it make me a 3D model? It doesn’t have any holes in it, just a solid object. If you need any other details, let me know, I’ll see what I can do to aid my own rescue (deadlines are on the way). If you have any critiques of my CO2 powered dragster you can add that too if you so desire.)

Hi, I thought of buying a new laptop since my 7 year old desktop is not able to execute any of the 3D CAD applications except Autodesk AutoCAD 2016 which I will be studying in my next semester. So, please suggest me a good laptop under $1000 range on which I can write notes with a pen (Ultrabook) and run the 3D CAD designing applications like Dassault Systemes 3D-Experience, PTC Creo, Solid Edge, Fusion 360, etc..

I was wondering if anyone knew any good guides to building something that would run software like Solidworks, Rhino, Fusion, and Keyshot. I want to build something but it would be more on a budget. I was aiming around $750USD but I can budge if I need to. As far as I know so far, CPU with a good core count is good as well as good amount of RAM. I could be wrong, this is why I am asking.

Hi Guys/Girls! I need some help picking parts for a Home Office Computer! First post on the forum! Been a follwer of LTT for what I belive to be 4 or 5 years now. Did my first build last year from used parts I found for cheap ish local. Not really a gamer, but love technical gadets etc. Anyway, going to build a computer for a home office at my mothers house. The job she now attends is moving 2hours away, and we decided to renovate an old bedroom to make an new office. (Im hoping she could work for home office a day or two a week if emplyer accepts.) I brought home my computer so we could have a temporary setup while sourcing parts etc. Use cases for the new build; As the title goes, this is going to be an office build, and would really benfit from beeing quiet. Recently we purchased a CNC machine, and I am teaching my mother’s boyfriend how to use Fusion 360 + other software relevant for the CNC machine. (he is a carpenter; made the desk from an old used oak table.) The temporary computer is running; · 6600K processor, (Overclocked to about, not really for the performance gain, just me wanting to learn) · Asus motherboard. I bought used with the CPU, so I don’t know the model number. · Corsair 16GB ddr4 (2666mhz) · Asus GTX980TI. · Kingston, 120GB Sata SSD My plans; General requirements / wishes · Quiet · Reliable · Minimalistic · Able to use Fusion 360 Here is what I come up with this far myself; · Computer Case - Fractal Design Define Mini C Black Silent. (2x 140mm fan) Chose the case du to minimalistic design, formfactor & a low noise level. On Newegg it is listed at 70USD. In Norway, its more like 115USD converted. The computer is going to be placed on a shelf under the desk to clear some leg room. · Processor / GPU – AMD 3400G I want the computer to be as good / cheap as possible, but that it can handle some 3D. I don’t know if this APU is good enough for fusion etc. But certainly, good for office work at a very attractive price. · RAM – HyperX Fury 2666Mhz or 3000Mhz 16GB kit I know that AMD cpu`s have a rumour for needing high speed RAM. But how much improvement would I see in GPU based tasks? Worth to upgrade from 2666Mhz to 3000Mhz, difference in same make seems to be aprox 30-40 USD of the cheapest make sold here. · Motherboard – Here im quite lost, seeing im looking into using an APU + dual monitor. I am looking for something with 2x displayports preferably. · Storage – Kingston 240GB Sata SSD. For the use that this is going to see, it does not need a crazy fast storage device or loads of storage. Everything that takes space uses only storage. · Powersupply – Not really looked into it; Sort by price ; Lowest first… hehe. 400W or more. Norwegian stores does not have no-name brand powersupplies anyways. · Monitor - Samsung C27R500F 27" curved monitor Its no need for high refresh rate or other gamer type comforts. Higher resulotion would be nice, but that bumps up the price about 1.5 times it seems like. · Monitor arm – Only dual arms I have found is for mounting on the desk, that could work, but I would prefer to being able to screw into the wall. · Peripherals – My mother will pick out what she likes herself (she uses a rollermouse). I will keep a cheap keyboard + mouse for when I might use it. TL;DR:Tips for building a home office computer for my mother that also can run Fusion 360. So hey guys, I recently got into trying to 3D printing and all that good stuff. Was working on a simple project (tweezers) yesterday to learn the options and get a feel for Fusion 360, which is my application of choice at the moment. There's one thing that's really bothering me though and I there doesn't seem to be a problem a lot of people have because can't even find a google search on the bloody topic. The end of the tweezers has some excess material that i cant get rid of... any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I've attached a picture of the issue below because this blob of text didn't really describe it properly BTW I've tried using the trim tool, but i don't think that's working for this, gives an error at the bottom of the page that there is nothing to trim. I recently have been using my HP z-book for light CAD models in fusion 360 and immediately found a few bottlenecks. When i open files my i5 quad-core cpu gets pinned to 100% for a second or two while my gpu sees little usage, after the files open im seeing 80-90% RAM usage. I was thinking of upgrading to 16GB of CORSAIR`s Vengeance RAM but it would be a better deal to buy 3 more 8gb sticks of my current RAM and end up with 32gb. However my current setup is clocked at 1600Mhz while CORSAIR`s is clocked at 2400Mhz, would that make a difference in a RAM heavy application like modeling large assemblies?
