I have an awesome idea I would love to see a video on. If not I'd make it myself after a long long time because it seems interesting. A table with touch screen tablets inlaid into the surface that are covered and used as touch screens for attached monitors via a network of custom cables. For background, I never owned a pc for nearly 20 years, and so while I do love my pc I've had for about 3 months now I have stretched the limits of what android could do for years. Android supports many niche features that otherwise I didn't know was possible such as display output via the port on the bottom or even being able to use the android device as a second powered monitor for a pc! It supports USB hubs (but you have to make sure the USB hub is fast enough to support the phones full connection speeds) and I have gotten great success with just plugging it in n it working in most cases. This brings me to the idea I had l. It was just a musing at first but it became more than that really quickly. I spent the last 6 or so hours engulfed in designing a table where you knock on a squared off section of the wood and the monitor on the wall lights up to an android swipe unlock screen. You can swipe on the table and unlock the screen and use the tablet in the table (that you can only see from the marked off section) to control the screen! There are 3 USB c ports on the side edge of the table all connected to the tablet. One port is dedicated to the charging of the device (via a magnetic charging connector attached at the end so its snag proof) and the other 2 are for the monitor (wirelessly or wired) and for USB drives/updates/adaptors you want to use. This would be easily implemented with Android. The only technical problems I can think of would be a power button extention out the side of the tablet on to the side edge of the table (just in case power ran out in the device and it needs to be turned back on) and potentially the wifi not reaching the device as easily as expected in which case the antenna internally needs to be moved towards the surface of the table. The hardest part would be the custom cables and getting them to not be filled with resin or the casting material on the edges of the table. The internal cables would be fully connected and in place during the casting so connections would not be integrated from being encased (tho I'd have the device depowered just in case) then potentially the power button being a pain... Hmm probably lead the wires to the edge and dremel out the pocket for the small pcb for the power button and use touch up materials? My idea would take the shape of a completely normal looking wooden table with a gloss finish that you can hav by a wall that is a hidden tablet control for a wall mounted monitor (or sitting in the middle of the table) I know LTT doesn't typically do cool custom android stuff or have the same cult following as Apple products have but this idea was a fun one. Thanks for your time reading my idea! If you like the idea feel ree to nab it but please link me a pic of video of the end product here.

Not sure if an office chair would qualify as a peripheral, so posting here in Off Topic. I'm looking for suggestions (based on your personal experience if possible, I can web search for suggestions just fine) on a high-back drafting chair, preferably with adjustable height and adjustable/flip arms, mesh back preferred. Just trying to see if anyone bought a product that wowed them... If I do a search on a site like Amazon it seems like there's limited models sold under hundreds of different brand names.

Hi everyone! My name is Zak, and I am currently working on getting a degree in industrial and innovative design. I am currently working on ideas for a capstone project, and I was wondering if I could get some input on one of my potential ideas. I really like the concept of is designing a way to integrate home theater audio with furniture. There is some precedent for this type of thing with companies like lovesac integrating speakers into couch cushions, and victrola and some other companies making side table bluetooth speakers. But none of those are really high quality hifi solutions in my opinion. I was thinking of integrating audio into a tv console, in such a way that it would basically be like a giant high quality soundbar, and maybe combining that with a subwoofer concealed as a side table, but that's just one way you could do it. One company that has tried this approach and no longer exists is MeiliAudio, who designed a great looking, and apparently great sounding tv console (pictured below), but that company is gone, though hopefully not because their product wasn't a good idea. The benefit of this approach is that if you or your significant other don't like the way your living room/theatre room looks with a bunch of sound equipment in it, this would be a great discreet compromise for high quality audio that also is a high quality piece of beautiful furniture. If this is something you'd be interested in leave a reply on my post, and let me know what you think! Some things I'd love to get your opinion on are, should I be considering other types of furniture for this idea, would this fit into the market seeing as relatively cheap decent sounding soundbars exist, and if it should exist, would you prefer it as like an ikea level product (which might actually work since they have that sonos partnership), or something more handcrafted and oriented towards audiophiles?

I'm planning to get a cat sometime soonish, I haven't decided on breed and would take recommendations but I have some concerns regarding the damage the cat can cause. Like many of you, I have a large assortment of electronics and computers scattered around my house, and am wondering how this will work out with a cat. Similarly furniture, decoration pieces shelves... how will that work out? It would be great some of you can share personal experiences and tips to cat-proof my house. Thanks!

My idea is to make a computer case that's more congruent to furniture and interior design... rather than electrical boxes in an industrial setting. The first picture below is one of the many I used as inspiration [I will not copy this design]. 1. Below, what do you see? The armrest from broken Swedish chair? I see a computer case. 2. The layout. 3. Frame pieces all cut to size. 4. Gluing things that are not at right angles always takes some creativity. Here I had to add non-stretch ribbons to the clamps to pull the different angles together. 5. I tested a few different hinge types, and decided simplest was best. 6. Rear panel and mobo tray went in with no problems. 7. Front Panels: I used 1mm mild steel [because I had a bunch laying around]. The first one looked good on paper but after I made it, I didn't like the radius of the bends. Then I made one with a simpler 'C' cross-section, hated it. I wound up trashing at least 3 or 4. 8. Finally decided on this. Here I'm trying to get the 1mm gap lined up, and get the pilot holes drilled. 9. Front Panels done. This took way longer than any of the other operations because the tolerances had to be kept under 1/2mm [not fun]. 10. Rear panel framed in too. 11. With a temporary psu I started looking at what internal structure needed to be added. 12. Space for 3 x 120mm fans that will draw cool air from the bottom. The hot air will exhaust from the top because warm air naturally rises. 13. Changed my mind about the placement of the hard drives. Put in a crossbeam behind the mobo tray so the interior parts have something to attach to [it is parallel to the floor but the different angles might give the optical illusion that it's tilted]. 14. Created this triangular bracket because both the front and rear components are at an angle, and I wanted to tie them together solidly. 15. Power switch finished. Frame stripped down ready for paint. 16. Another view of power switch. 16. The case is Finished! It's covered with nylon fabric so... a) if you put 'awesome' components in it, you'd be able to see them from any angle; b) no heat is trapped inside; c) less dust gets in. 17. Front: the 'on' button is under the fabric but the ring around it glows when powered-up. Originally I wanted to hide the button when it's off, but the cloth turned out too see-thru for any hiding. 18. Right side panel can be removed with 4 screws. 19. Back view. 20. Bottom view. 21. Left panel swings open w/ just 2 screws, giving access to the entire interior. 22. Hard drive area fits either 1 SSD and 3 HDD... or 2 SSD and 2 HDD. 23. Detail of upholstery. In Its Environment: 24. If I wanted to use it as an entertainment computer, it could sit by the TV. [I know the 'holes' in the back are distracting, but they should all be filled w/ components, making the whole thing visually more solid.] 25. A slightly more 'sculptural' location. 26. I think it fits best here by the couch. Theoretically, I could use a wireless keyboard and the TV as a monitor.

Didn't seem like it fit in any of the other topics, so Off Topic: I have been looking for a new Gaming/Extra comfy desk chair and have been having a really hard time figuring out what to buy. I have had very little luck finding DXRacer chairs in Canada. I see a lot of AKRacing, and Thermaltake chairs, but I have never heard about their quality. Does anyone have any information about what some good options for these types of chairs, available in Canada that are high quality and good value?

All, I searched the forums for a while looking for recommendations for desks. Lots of users just say to build one yourself which isn't an option for me as I'd have to purchase the woodworking tools making it far more expensive than just purchasing one. I'm hoping peripherals is the correct forum to post this. Basically, I need something that will allow for my Desktop tower, a 27" monitor, 32" monitor, keyboard, and additional space for school work as well as storage. I've been looking all over the internet and I think an L-Shapped or U-Shaped desk may be the best option I have but I don't like buying poor quality as it costs more in the long run and doesn't last. Commercial desks seem to be well made but are usually much more than I'd like to spend. Anyone have any descent recommendations? Not looking to spend anymore than about $1,000 to $1,500 USD.

Summary IKEA teams up with Republic of Gamers (ROG) to develop a new range of affordable gaming furniture and accessories to bring the gaming experience at home to a new level. The range consisting of about 30 products will be launched first in China in February 2021, and from October 2021 it will be available in other IKEA markets. Quotes My thoughts Interoprability with RGB controllers would be nice. If anybody can break the market and bring decent quality products for a decent price it's IKEA, so it would be nice to have a nice desk without having to break the bank. Hello there! As my desk is rather small 120x60 (Metric system FTW) especially now when I'll have 2 monitors and I dont really have the space.. Cant be bigger than 165x70 after that it starts to block shit of in my room. I was looking at the Ikea Malm (Notice that I'm Swedish) the hard thing here is amazon and other things are rather restricted here like it costs a fortune for shipping and import and all that stuff but just say a desk and I'll see if I find it in my countries webshops and so on (could send me a pic of it?) Oh yeah height doesnt matter but it gotta support a monitor mount which clamps togheter between the desks tabletop and black colour is preferd but I think white also works. Thanks in advance!

I've kind of gotten tired with searching for a decently priced desk that is just bare bones and simple. I took all of my frustration and put it into sketchup to come up with my ideal desk, but there's a problem. I've never done CAD work before. The most drafting experience I had was a class I half assed my way through in high school. That being said, if anyone with said experience could give me some tips that'd be great. Also I'm not even 100% sure it'll even stand up, so there's that. Included in this dropbox link are a sketchup file and what I'm guessing is a more open source 3D model of the desk. Let me know just how bad it is.

I am a digital artist and game developer by profession and has to work long hours at a stretch. I am currently using a simple leather chair that is not very ergonomic in the sense that it's very hard to seat on, not adjustable at all and the head rest is missing. I am 6'1" (183cm) and I was hoping anyone could point me to some comfortable chair for computer use with a fair (or rather lots of) adjustments, a nice head rest but in a non bucket style that is popular in the market these days as I have the same problem as @Slick with broad shoulders that curves forward making my muscles sore over prolonged use. A lockable wheel is an added bonus so that I can lift up my feet while I watch some random videos or enjoy a session of LTT videos. International shipping because I live in India (or an indian manufacture?) Thanks in advance!

Some mental institution of copyright abuses had just come with its latest brain fart idea of how to milk even more cash out of the thin air. Apparently, too many people out there make no difference between a tangible object and representations of a tangible object. How that became a copyright issue? They would make nice looking, reasonably priced and high quality furniture. Do you hear me @JoshFractal? This is mostly a joke, but it would be awesome.

I am looking for a new desk, and I am tired of crappy OfficeMax brand stuff. I would really like to find something with sturdy construction, doesn't have a whole bunch of drawers and unnecessary stuff underneath the top, has a lot of USABLE surface area, and won't break the bank. Are there any brands that make simple, steel construction, commercial desks? I was thinking around 60-70 inches wide, and 24-36 inches deep so I have room for multiple monitors, and a keyboard with a long wrist rest.
