Looking to give my two teenage boys an alternate gaming computer for when they both have time to play. Budget (including currency): $1000 (Think closer to $900, but push up to $1000 if sufficient value-add...) Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Almost exclusively gaming. However, my boys don't do a lot of heavy FPS or other graphics hogs. They like LoL, Starcraft, Risk of Rain 2. Lots of low graphics indy titles. Others include Gunfire Reborn, Deep Rock Galactic, occasional Apex Legends (which I think is the heaviest hitter they play...) LoL and Starcraft are fairly "Serious" play but not really in hard-core competitive play for the others. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Resolution: sub-4k, single monitor which I will supply (No hurry to upgrade to 4k as even my primary machine isn't 4k yet...) Aside from the monitor, I'd like to start nearly from scratch. I have some keyboards/mice we could use but would love suggestions for a value-level gaming ones... If possible, I'd prefer a lower profile (ie. not huge) case but will take what I can get. I'm looking to buy something in the next month or so if possible. Thanks for any advice you can give!

Wheyy! So a few months ago I moved continents and have been busting my butt in a crap job, but now I have a bit of money saved and I need this one teensy Itch scratched.. A PC! In NE of the UK. £1500 budget (but cut costs if possible!) I'd prefer an IPS panel Full build needed. Not going to OC (very bad luck in that dept) Will be playing Witcher 3, anno 2205, shadow of war. (60fps ultra is my ideal) Will be using audacity and minor image & video editing. Lots of multiple tab browsing. The build idea in production *list edited thanks to suggestions Is the 1080 overkill for the i5? I was going to pick the g4560 but I think I was aiming a bit low for the games and stuff I use. Mechanical keyboard please, don't care about rgb. Not sure if I want speakers or wireless headphones with mic or something.. I'm open to suggestions. Will definitely need windows OS (might try Linux again but It would have to be built boot, Id like to learn but I can be very inept) I have an external 1tb 2.5 drive that I want to use.

So I'm building my first PC, I've been using integrated graphics all my life and got tired of how poorly my games run, like H1Z1 runs at about 15fps on low graphics, I need just about everything, even my keyboard is failing and my mouse will no longer scroll, so I've come up with some builds and I'm trying to keep it cheaper than $1050 because, well that's my budget I would really appreciate the help I've started 2 builds http://pcpartpicker.com/list/FVFVBP http://pcpartpicker.com/list/rZcX2R I'm leaning toward and because of how cheap it is and i think it can perform ok for the games I'm looking to play(CSGO,Overwatch, H1Z1, GTA,etc.) im fully open to other cpu's gpu's or anything, but i would like to keep the sli/crossfire option open in case i upgrade in the future, thus the higher powered power supply. Thank you for your advice and ill let you know of my decision when i make it.

first pc build First full build from scratch
FlamingZebra63 posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hey guys, i have been doing some shopping around online looking at pre-built machines from various places and from experience i know that these options are usually a lot more cost effective for someone that doesn't really know what they are doing and was looking for people that could offer a more "me" kind of build without having all the negatives of DIY As far as build goes, this is a machine intended for mostly gaming and occasional content streaming. i have no plans to do any sort of video/graphics editing, crypto mining, ect. Kinds of games i play range from smaller less intense graphically demanding games (runescape or terraria) up to games my current computer cant run very well beyond medium/low like world of warcraft, starcraft 2, apex ideally ide want the following things but ide happily be willing to compromise on function for affordability and compatibility -intel processor of either 4 or 8 core -4 slot motherboard for future expansions -16 gb ram -several usb slots -mid size tower or smaller (full towers that aren't bulky, or heavy acceptable) -air cooling (This is something i ended up with on ibuypower but with a price tag of around 1700$) (note: i really dislike liquid cooling) I know i could defiantly do a lot better in terms of price buying part for part from places like newegg and amazon but i was hoping you guys can go further and do either much better for a similar price, or better full from scratch set up job Any and all help will be greatly appreciated here! thanks guys -
Hi everybody! I hope you guys are having fun with whatever you guys do. I have some questions and need guidance for my new build. I ask you guys some questions and If you notice something that is stupid that I didn't notice please please please inform me. I'm finally upgrading my 10 year old boi. I am trying to min-max my budget but I'm not sure what I'm doing is right or wrong. I want to go full "TEAM RED" but I can go for AMD+Nvidia maybe if it makes sense. I plan to is for many reasons so here is most to least likely: Unity, Blender, Gaming, Fusion 360, Music + Video Production Tools. I run multiple at a time. So my aim is to have a good GPU, 6-8 core, 16GB RAM. Budget: ~1000$ I live at Norway, prices are usually similar with US market. CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 Should I go for 3600X? Should I downgrade the CPU will the lower core count affect me that much? I run IDE (Jetbrains), Unity, Chrome, Blender at the same time (they are not active at the same time usually.) CPU Cooler: Stock Is this OK in 2020? RAM: Cheapest second hand 16GB DDR4 RAM. Am I doing a huge mistake by not hunting a 3200 MHz one? Currently the cheapest is a 3200MHz one, If I don't score that should I focus on getting one. Case + Fans: Something Under 200$ (BITFENIX Enso Mesh RGB most likely.) I don't like flashy builds but my wife likes the RGB stuff so I'm going full RGB on case fans. Mobo: I didn't look for any now but I need atleast 4 SATA connections PSU: I'm looking for a deal on near 1000W ones. Is it okey to buy a Power Supply out of a mining rig? Currently there is lots of people dumping them. I'm going around 1000W to future proof. Is it overkill? Storage: I have 3 HDDs and 1 SSD (SATA) laying around. I will hook them up then upgrade to sweet M.2 later. GPU: This is the problematic area. I have 3 ways I can go about: Go get a RX 5700XT (Will I bottlenexk RX 5700 XT?) Go get a mining card for cheap?! I have a working GTX 750, finish the build with this then wait and accumalate wealth then go get a 2080TiSuperDuperHyper Edition or whatever they release by the time. I also have a bricked RX460 If I manage to unbrick it with the new computer I can use it for a longer while. Monitor: I have a old 1080p low latency monitor that has been good to me for 8 years now. I'm not planning to get new one but I will add a better monitor in 1 year. So this might effect GPU questions. Finally I know I can research this one online but: Which parts are okey to go for 2nd hand? I'm planning to get Mobo RAM and maybe PSU from used market. Note: I know it looks like overbudget for now. Note 2: I hope I'm not doing something horibly wrong by opening this thread, I don't hang here that much. Please don't kill me.

Budget (including currency): $2500 USD Country: United States of America Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly Gaming: Fallout, Arma 3, FS2020, X Plane, DCS, VR, Squad, KSP 2 (hopefully soon!) etc. - Music Production: Ableton 10, Pro tools, FLstudio - Maybe some CAD programs in the future like NX12 or solidworks but that's not a main priority. Other details I would like peripherals to be included in the cost. I assume I will need to purchase a windows license too. Eventually I would like to upgrade these peripherals to a multi monitor setup with HOTAS for flight simulators like DCS world but for now Id just like one nice monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I can't decide between 1440 or 1080. Anyways, I have never built a PC before but I am not afraid to try! I am just very intimidated by the process of selecting which components are going to be in the build and sorting out compatibility. My budget is pretty firm but I would like to buy once and cry once so to speak, so going slightly over budget isn't automatically a deal breaker. I would like to build this PC as a devoted gaming rig as the only programs other than games I may run for any significant period of time would be DAWs and other music production software. I guess the standard request is to maximize my performance as much as possible while leaving some room for potential future upgrades to try to fight my machine being obsolete after a few years. As I stated previously, the only taxing upgrade I plan on getting in the future is a better set of monitors but for now I only need one. I am not sure what other details may be relevant to help you all make your suggestions but please let me know if you happen to have any questions. I really appreciate the help and look forward to reading your suggestions! EDIT: I wanted to add that I will have to transport this PC in long car rides occasionally so I was wondering if there is any hardware made to increase the number of mounting points between heavy components in the case and the case itself. My concern is that if I hit a bump in the road the mounting point for something like the cpu cooler or the graphics card may break due to the jostling. Please let me know if you have any ideas!

I've recently purchased an entirely new rig to update my first and only rig I've built that was several years old and way out dated. Over the past month I've been buying up parts and installing them in as they come and I'm extremely satisfied. My old rig was something like: CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz Quad-Core OEM/Tray Processor Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H Micro ATX AM3/AM2+/AM2 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 500GB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 500GB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 512MB Video Card Power Supply: Antec EarthWatts Green 380W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply My new rig: CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (Purchased For $229.99) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (Purchased For $25.79) Motherboard: Asus Z170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (Purchased For $139.99) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory (Purchased For $56.99) Storage: Sandisk Z400s 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $39.99) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 500GB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive [reuse] Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card (Purchased For $320.99) Case: Deepcool TESSERACT SW Red ATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For $39.99) Power Supply: XFX Core Edition 850W 80+ Bronze ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $89.99) [overkill, I know] Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer (Purchased For $19.95) Keyboard: AZIO MGK1 Wired Gaming Keyboard (Purchased For $0.00) [used a rebate card] Other: Rosewill RCAB-11050 - 18" Flat Red SATA III Cable (Purchased For $1.99) Other: LOGISYS CLK12RD Cold Cathode (Purchased For $8.99) Total: $974.65 My monitor is fine and so is my mouse for now. I thought about adding a sound card next. However, I know nothing about sound cards or where to even begin. May people say they aren't even that great to have but anyone who has one says that those people don't know the difference. Sound cards? DACs? Pros and Cons? Any advice would help.

So here is my first build. This includes the computer, peripherals, and a chair to sit in . I'm replacing mine and my wife's 6+ year old laptops with a desktop. We will be using this for gaming (of course, just look at those specs), school work, and programming. **CPU** | [intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80662i76700k) | $329.99 @ Micro Center **CPU Cooler** | [Corsair H100i GTX 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-cpu-cooler-cw9060021ww) | $109.99 @ Amazon **Motherboard** | [Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz170xgaming7) | $205.89 @ OutletPC **Memory** | [G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f42400c15d16gvr) | $94.99 @ Newegg **Storage** | [samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz75e250bam) | $74.99 @ Amazon **Storage** | [Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/western-digital-internal-hard-drive-wd10ezex) | $49.99 @ Newegg **Video Card** | [EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB FTW ACX 2.0+ Video Card](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-06gp44996kr) | $659.99 @ Amazon **Case** | [NZXT Phantom 410 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-case-caph410w1) | $79.99 @ Newegg **Optical Drive** | [LG WH16NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/lg-optical-drive-wh16ns40) | $47.00 @ Adorama **Monitor** | [Acer XB270HU bprz 144Hz 27.0" Monitor](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/acer-monitor-xb270hubprz) | $764.98 @ Directron **Keyboard** | [Logitech G910 Orion Spark Wired Gaming Keyboard](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/logitech-keyboard-920006385) | $145.99 @ Best Buy **Mouse** | [Logitech G502 Wired Optical Mouse](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/logitech-mouse-910004074) | $76.30 @ Amazon **Headphones** | [Logitech G633 Artemis Spectrum 7.1 Channel Headset](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/logitech-headphones-981000586) | $149.99 @ Amazon **Other**| Cooler Master V750| $109.99 **Other**| MAXNOMIC™ THUNDERBOLT Computer Chair| $343.99 | *Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts* | | Total (before mail-in rebates) | $3254.06 | Mail-in rebates | -$10.00 | **Total** | **$3244.06** | Generated by [PCPartPicker](http://pcpartpicker.com) 2015-11-11 23:20 EST-0500 | I originally thought about the i5 skylake edition, but decided to go with the i7. Is there much of a difference between the 2 chips and is hyperthreading enough to justify the higher price tag? I don't know if I need a cooler as big as the H100i gtx. I'm looking to do some basic OC, but I've never had a computer where I was able to OC. I don't know how taxing OC will be on my system and if things will light on fire if I don't have a big enough cooler (I'm being a tad overdramatic but hopefully you get my point). Do I need this big of a cooler or can I down size and still be ok? The motherboard, memory, and storage I chose because they were the cheapest parts I found that have good enough specs. I would eventually like to get an m.2 drive and a second 980 ti, but those are further down the road. If I understand everything correctly DDR4 is still too new to worry about getting higher frequency memory since there isn't enough of a boost in response time to justify a higher price tag. Is this true? I have a lot of CD's and still continue to buy physical copies of music, I know I'm weird like that. That being said I need an optical drive. Also I want to watch movies which again I buy physical copies. I'm debating on waiting for the new predator xb1 1440p monitor. I have heard mixed things about the 270hu. Plus the new predator is suppose to be around the same price point as the 270hu. Is it worth waiting for or is the 270hu good enough? Does anyone know if the the predator xb1 will support nvidia 3d vision? As far as the extra stuff (keyboard, mouse, and chair) I've played around with the g910 and g502 and I really like the look/feel of them. Yeah they are a little on the flashy side with all the rgb lighting, but this being my first ever big boy computer I want a few flashy bits. Also I know nothing about Maxnomic but I hear they make good products. Anyone own a chair made by them that can offer some thoughts? I didn't put an operating system on here since I'm planning on getting it through reddit. Sorry this is long. Thanks in advance for any response and advice!!!

Hello LinusTechTips 1. Budget & Location 2. Aim Mixing the best of two worlds, a workstation that’s capable of playing the latest games without lag and frustrations. But the most important part it must and will be silent optimized. There will be no video editing. 3. Monitors IIyama Prolite E2407HDS running 1920x1080 (Main monitor) IIyama Prolite B2008HDS running 1600x900 (Secondary monitor) These will get an upgrade next year. 4. Peripherals Logitech G110 Logitech G5 (Old but does the job, just love this mouse) 5. Why are you upgrading? My previous build is from Feb 2009, it’s in desperate need of an upgrade. Failing front usb ports, scratched case, just old parts in general that make my most important tool slow and unreliable. 6. Part List Case Fractal design: Define R4 Note: Silence optimized, has 2 “hydraulic bearing 140mm Silent Series R2 fan” included and great looks. Motherboard ASUS Sabertooth Z87 Note: Dust resistance, 5 years warranty, great performance, … CPU Intel i5 4670K (LGA 1150) Note: Latest generation CPU with the possibility to overclock (will be overclocked!) and should keep performing for a few years (4y at least) CPU Cooler Corsair Hydro Series H90 140mm HPL CPU Cooler Note: Why H90 and not the H100? The case supports 240/280mm radiators but for this you need to remove the noise reducing foam. Will move the included 140mm fan from rear to front to mount the H90. RAM 16gig Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHZ kit CL9 Note: low profile ones to be sure. GPU Note: Better fans & overclocking, looks are OK too! Still not sure about this one, is pretty high end for mid to casual gaming… HDD Note: One of the best SSD’s, 128GB is not enough for all software/games… Don’t like SSD caching… PSU Corsair RM 750 Note: Silence optimized Fan's Silent Series R2 140mm Or be quiet! Shadow Wings sw1 140mm Mid-Speed Since I can’t seem to find a local store to buy the Silent series… Note: 2 extra 140mm fans for noise reduction. (Bottom & Rear – not going to use the stock H90 fan…) Well that’s it, since I don’t make a build every month or even year there is a possibility I’ve used some incompatible material(s) that’s why I’ve posted my build here. Looking forward to see what you guys think of it and please if you would use other(beter) parts enlighten me with your knowledge . Sincerely FunkStar EDIT 17/12/13: BUMP post #21

Hello everyone, I'm planning atm the moment to build my first computer. I'm not really on a budget, i just want a powerfull enough machine to last several years with this configuration with high quality graphics. I'm also planning on buying a 144Hz monitor (1920*1080), so this computer should output at least 60fps on very consuming games (like bf4, crysis 3, ...) and ideally 120 on less consuming stuff (i do some CS, moba) I wanted to know what you think about it: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Land3r/saved/PHqPxr I'm not sure about the overclocking part tho. EDIT: Also, with Gsync monitor coming out, is that worth if to change to high end nvidia videocard (higher prices but gsync) ? I'm not sure of the impacts of tearing & lag on 144Hz monitor. Thx
