  1. I currently have a 60 down/5 up mbps VDSL line for my home internet, connected to: AVM Fritz!Box 7490 VDSL modem (German brand of modems with VOIP built-in) 16 port basic Gigabit switch Unifi UAP-AC-LR Access Point QNap 1 bay NAS drive Asus PN50 (AMD Ryzen 4300) mini server with OpenMediaVault for plex/docker/development servers All my computers and devices are connected with 1 gigabit connections, and wireless is provided over the Unifi 5GHz network. According to my local testing most of the devices are capable to reach my local network with speeds above 300-400mbps, I've done the testing with the LibreSpeed speedtest docker image (a locally hosted speedtest server to test your local network internally). My S21 Ultra smartphone can connect to my local network at around 400-500mbps, my 7 years old workstation laptop can connect with around 300mbps, gaming PC with wired gigabit can easily surpass 900mbps. In around a week I will be getting a fiber FTTH connection of 300mbps, are there any changes I should make, or things I should add to my network to have a better high-speed experience? I want to benefit from the new high speed for online gaming, 4k streaming and most important have some reliable online backup for my home workstation, I currently do local backups on the NAS and removable HDD which are always at risk.
  2. Hey there People, I just have a simple problem im facing. (or atleast I hope its simple) Currently our home is connected to our ISP via VDSL with 100 MBits down and 20 MBits up. In our house, since its somewhat old, we dont have networking like idk Cat 5 oder Cat 6 or sth like that set up. The only "interconnection between some rooms and the basement" is that we have old phone cableing running through our house. Now we got a letter from one of our regional ISPs telling us that they are finally wanting to provide FTTB for us and our neighbors. I just have one problem. Sure getting a fibre connection into our basement is no problem since theres already an empty tube going from our housewall to the road. But how am I going to connect e.g. my room (1st floor) with a potential fibre connection down in the basement. Can I convert the optical signal somehow and just dump it onto the existing phone lines that are layed out throughout our house or what other good options do I have? Looking forward to hear from yall.
  3. Hey guys, so I have this G broadband connection of 100 Mbps up and down and I am getting almost full speed ranging between 92-98 Mbps up and down. But when it comes to Wi-Fi speeds, it is not even half. I have the 2 routers, 1. Dlink DIR-600M Rev. C and Dlink DIR-615 Rev. T1. Please help me. Also PFA the ss for speeds and wifi channels around my apartment.
  4. This is a big problem and the explanation is going to be relatively big so strap yourselves in. Also its a bit of a story as well. I recently got a 100 Mbps up and 100 Mbps dedicated FTTH line from a local ISP for $15 . I have switched between over 5-10 ISP's in India. India is a country with a lot of people and extremely limited IPV4 allocation. ~ 35 million IP addresses for 1.2 billion people. As of Match of 2017, the amount of people with internet access soared to 420 million users, a quarter of it due to a revolutionary company called Reliance Jio, with 4G only, VoLTE calling, fully IPV6 ready networks. Unlike Mobile Network operators who flock to ipv6 due to heavy shortage, ISP's have clutched the egregious abomination CG-NAT aka Double NAT. As I mentioned earlier nearly all of the ISP's have so little IPV4 addresses that they universally adopted CG-NAT. Older ISP's who have enough IPV4 addresses either use Dynamic IP (which for me is fine) or still give out static as a standard. However by literal definition older ISP's are not providing FTTH instead still relying on DSL connections or false branding Vectorization DSL as V-Fiber. As all ISP's do, my ISP also has a paid Static IP service. However that is only available in a business plan. And the Business plans have Data Caps of about 250 GB for a 100 Mbps connection at a higher price. And the static IP charges alone per year is almost half as much as the yearly service bill. I just cant bear to live with a 250 GB data cap beyond which my internet goes back to stone age 512 kbps, a increased bill of almost 75% extra just for the "pleasure" of having static IP. My ISP is relatively small and although I would consider myself a noob in networking, those guys are even more so. I begged them to enable the support for IPV6. However they haven't bought any due to the fears that some of the equipment in people's home wont support it, it does not add value to the sales pitch, and they have to shell out for ipv4 NAT anyway. They pretty much said to me I am the only guy asking for this and its just absurd. I run a Plex Server in my Home. Since I am stuck behind CG NAT for the past year or two, Its useless other than for local streaming. At least during the time of ridiculous mobile network speeds I could have convinced myself to scrap the Plex idea. However I pay $7 Flat fee prepaid per month for 2 GB per Day 4G LTE only network ( with 90% network coverage all over India including rural areas with 100% coverage expected by next year). And I use 0% of it because I am behind a damn CGNAT and bored whenever I leave my house. I have already tried running a VPN as a default to Pure VPN's dedicated IP service and reverse SSH tunneling to my Network. It is super slow and slows down pretty much everything. Here is the scenario : 1) All expected client devices for the Plex Server support IPV6. 2) The server does not have access to an IPV6 address because the ISP does not support it. 3) I get a private IP address from my ISP and am not able to reach my network behind a NAT. 4) My ISP will offer little to no help whatsoever Question : What is the best fastest solution to expose my Home Network to the Internet ? If a solution that I have mentioned as already tried sounds the best to you and/or have a similar but faster approach please let me know. Thank you guys in advance
  5. I just got a 100Mbps Dedicated Duplex line Fiber to the Home ( I mean seriously not even multiple passive splitters ), they convert 2.5 gbps incoming line to 25 X 100mbps connections ensuring no slow downs for $15 dollars a month with absolutely NO Data Caps. They do use Carrier Grade NAT (so we cant use it for server purposes unless you pay $75 a year for static IP). Its not even economies of scale, the next known customer for this particular ISP lives 250m away from me and I am on the main road with multistory apartments on all sides. They also told me the only reason they do not give Gigabit right now is that almost everyone has only 100mbps RJ45 Ports in their routers ( P.S In India we buy the cheapest routers and access points). Although they can literally convert all the connections to gigabit by just removing their limit. And they are just withholding till another ISP matches their current prices after which my ISP can quickly enable Gigabit and start taunting about the new USP. This is soo wierd to me, I mean 2 years ago my broadband was 2 mbps till 8gb 512 kbps afterwards. Now I have 100mbps no FUP fiber for a lesser price. Just Wow. Let me know how much do you pay for your internet
  6. Hey Folks, I live back in India and we are currently experiencing a fiber boom of ridiculous proportions (1 Gigabit Internet with 2TB of Data cap post which I'll get 10mbps Unlimited for around $70 ). I am getting a Fiber to the Building connection. The internet guys do offer the ability to run Fiber to the Home if I bear the cost of the Customer Premise equipment. Since I already have a router with an SFP port its not much really for me. The problem is the people installing these crazy internet connections have no idea on what Optical Fiber Cable they use, or what connector they use. I being a mechanical engineer have no idea either. They tell me that they can terminate a new Fiber connector at my rooftop cable entry point of my apartment. But I have to patch the male connector from Female and run it to my Network equipment wherein a wall port where the wire will be terminated into a wall port. I have to do this all without knowing if it is a multimode or a single mode fiber, and what type of connector it uses. Kindly let me know if there is a standard in fiber cabling to the home. If so what connector it uses, and if it is duplex or simplex. If there is no standard in FTTH connections kindly let me know on what exact details I need to know before purchasing the Optical Fiber Cable and wiring it to my room including what Female and Male Patch Connectors it uses. ( Pictures welcome ) Thank you all in advance
  7. I have moved into a new-build house (UK) that is set up with fibre to the house. I am just about to sort my internet package and would like advice on setting up my wireless network. The house has network cabling to several rooms from the under stair cupboard (lounge, kitchen/diner and master bedroom). I want a seamless wireless network throughout the house to share the glorious ultrafast broadband and would like advice on my best options. It seems to me a mesh network may solve this but is that surplus to requirement with the house wired for network? I hope somebody can shed some light for me Will
  8. Hey guys, I need some help with my network setup. I recently got an internet upgrade from my provider, they came out and replaced the cables to fiber ones and they installed a new router too. The router that they installed is quite bad, lan is okay little bit unstable but it's usually fine(900mbit/s) on the other hand the wifi is really bad, usually it's 30mbit/s and sometimes 50mbit/s but never more. It's a free router from them, didn't expect better performance so i should just upgrade it to a good one right? Here comes my problem the router they gave us has a fiber input and i only foudn routers with ethernet input, but i saw some converters which could work but there is another problem, my router has the phone output too and with those converters and an ethernet router i couldn't use the the phone. So i need help what stuff i should buy to be able to plug in any decent router with ethernet input and still be able to use my phone and TV. Sooo the current setup: FTTH receiver: -SC APC input -SC APC output -TV cable output(coaxial cable f type from what i can tell but it has no labeling) Router: -SC APC input -4 ethernet output -phone output(RJ11 i think) and of course the router is connected to the ftth receiver with a sc apc cable Thanks for the help in advance. PS.: sorry for my english i'm not a native speaker
  9. Hi all, I was just wondering, why does the LMG fiber box cost so much ($40K as stated in one tour video)? Here in Spain, I've got 300Mb/s Down and 300Mb/s Upload speeds (yes, a symmetric connection), with a small Alcatel-Lucent ONT which may cost no more than $15. Then I've got a wireless AC router connected to it via ethernet, which my ISP provided me (yes...not the best, but hey, it isn't giving me much trouble at the moment), so I don't believe that is the reason why it costs as much. Heck, and the LMG group "only" has 200/200Mb's. And I also don't believe reliability is the reason why it's costing 2000x more. For sure, it has a much more reliable power supply, it may have temperature stability controls for the main processor, it could even have a fiber splitter, two converter units and a linux box checking each 1/30 of a second if one has failed, changing to the best one. But that doesn't cost $40k. Not even $4k... Does anyone know any reason why? When I use my computer connected via ethernet, I can verify those gorgeous 300/300Mb/s. When it's in it's default position, connected via WiFi N300, I can only achieve 50Mb/s/40Mb/s, but that's another story.
  10. 1.3 more million homes and businesses were added to the NBN construction timeline today. NBNCo has released a new three year going to 2016. NBNCo has updated their roll out map to include more and more houses. I am one of the lucky ones to have been added to this map! http://www.nbnco.com.au/when-do-i-get-it/rollout-map.html SOURCE : http://www.nbnco.com.au/blog/1-3-million-more-homes-businesses-added-to-nbn-timetable.html
  11. Hi, My friend's ISP charges him about $20 as a rent yearly for providing a ONT device from ZTE. It takes in SC APC Connector on one end and gives RJ45 Gigabit on the other. Can I buy say the any ZTE GPON device or the Ubiquity UFiber Nano G as a replacement for it ? In short what i want detail I want is, Does a GPON ONT device just convert fiber to Ethernet ? or does it require some configuration ? I doubt the ISP's knowledge of configuring an access point let alone a self owned GPON.
