Hi everyone, I'm seeking advice on choosing a new monitor after transitioning from an Nvidia to an AMD GPU. I currently own an Acer Predator XB271HU 1440p 165Hz G-Sync monitor, but since I've switched to an AMD XFX 7900 GRE after my first build in many years, I can no longer utilize the G-Sync module. I'm concerned about losing access to variable refresh rate technology and I'm looking for recommendations on a suitable replacement. My desk measures 65cm in depth and is this model from JYSK: [ https://jysk.ie/office/desks/computer-desks/gaming-desk-halbjerg-65x135-w/led-white ]. I'm considering a 34" ultra-wide for immersion, but I'm unsure if my desk depth is sufficient, I'd also be open to a better 27" monitor too as I'm concerned about stability if mounted directly on the desk. I'm open to purchasing a TV stand and slightly adjusting the desk setup if needed. My priorities are good contrast and motion clarity, although OLED monitors are out of my budget. I'm located in Europe and my budget is around €500, but I'm open to cheaper options as long as they offer an improvement over my current setup. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I read quite a few opinions on the interwebs about this issue and many of them were conflicting others didn't make any sense so I beg you to respond to this post only if you really know how this stuff works without assumptions etc because I am very confused already as it is. Thank you. So my question is simple and only about Freesync (dont care about Gsync) Lets say you have a 144Hz monitor that has Freesync but only on the range 40-90Hz What happens if your actual FPS rate on a game can be like 180 FPS ? will freesync lower it to 90 FPS?

First of all, specs: Monitor: Acer KG1 (75Hz) KG271 - Tech Specs | Monitors | Acer United Kingdom GPU: Sapphire RX 470 Radeon™ RX 470 Graphics Cards for Desktop | AMD Processor: Ryzen 3600 Hello everyone :), I've been having some issues with freesync and was hoping to get some help. Freesync is supposed to be an anti-tearing solution to v-sync, however, with it enabled I am still getting tearing, of course when I enable v-sync in game my gpu utilisation and fps both go down. Freesync is great at smoothing games where I have a framerate lower than 75, but as soon as it goes over its back to tearing. I have a feeling its to do with the fact I'm using an HDMI connection, however the monitor does not have any DisplayPort ports and Radeon Software allows me to enable Freesync anyway. I have tried fixing it with some online solutions such as: Limiting framerate to 99 or 72. Turning on enhanced sync. Disabling the 'AMD External Events Utility' service. Manually enabling the Freesync and Enhanced Sync options in the game profiles in Radeon Software. Freesync works in the windmill demo.. but that only runs at 60fps. I really appreciate if anyone has a solution to my problem :). -dumbfvckvirgo

freesync Freesync premium doesn't work on Minecraft anymore
owosoup posted a topic in Troubleshooting
It's not uncommon to go out of my way for fixing things on my computer, but here I'm completely lost. So, I used to have freesync (premium) on with Minecraft Java edition (I use sodium and shaders as well as other mods, but it worked). I wanted to record things with AMD adrenalin's included video encoder, but it wasn't working. I tried a factory reset, and it worked, now I can record. But now freesync doesn't work with minecraft anymore. -I can tell that freesync is on or not because my monitor will have higher ghosting at lower refresh rates. -Freesync reduces but doesn't completely eradicate screen tearing in minecraft. -Vsync with sodium is horrible, it throttles my fps to ~80 where I could be getting over 140. -I'm not sure if resetting adrenalin software was the cause, but it seems like the most likely thing. -I have tried enabling freesync globally or locally (in the games tab) for the java process. -Freesync works with other applications just fine. I haven't updated my mods recently, and the most recent change before it started happening was my factory reset of AMD software. Ask me anything you need to know if you have anything to help. help D: -
I just decided to upgrade the display on my ASUS TUF A15 with an LP156WFG-SPB2 which is a GSYNC/FreeSync compatible display. When the display was first installed it FreeSync worked immediately, the problems first emerged when the laptop was plugged into my setup. FreeSync stopped working in Adrenalin graying out and stating that it was not supported. I then proceeded with standard debugging practices including the following: unplugging everything, restarting, searching (and failing) to find drivers for the panel, updating Adrenalin, using a driver updater tool, uninstalling the display in device manager, verifying that it is a legit display in HWinfo, and etc.

On one of my HDR monitors, the color is dimmer than the other, (its easier to see in the title bar of the photo viewer I have on in the video) UNTIL I launch a game with freesync enabled, then that monitor gets brighter and stays that way, even after closing the game. if freesync is DISABLED then it DOESN'T get brighter. When it is brighter it seems to match the OTHER HDR monitor. This implies to me that HDR isn't fully 'on' until I launch a game with freesync enabled. I'd like it to be in the brighter mode all the time, to match the other HDR monitor, but I'm not sure what is going on. I recently upgraded from an i7 10700K to a 5800X3D and am noticing a lot of stuttering paired with my RX 7900 XT. I have finally narrowed it down to being Freesync. Another thing I found is if I play a youtube video on my second monitor OR record my gameplay locally the stuttering is lessened quite a bit. Here I will link videos I recorded with my phone showing the stutter that occurs with Freesync and the smoothness that occurs without it: Stutter No stutter In troubleshooting i have: Used DDU to reinstall GPU drivers Installed and reinstalled chipset drivers Updated BIOS Lower RAM speed Tried running everything at stock (I do run my RAM in DOCP at 3000MHz and my GPU is overclocked) closed background apps lowered GPU clock to heavily limit power consumption Changed color depth to different values as suggested on other posts i found tried borderless, fullscreen, and with/without vsync

I just don't seem to get any luck with my LG-UltraGear 27GN800P-B display. I have gotten two replacements for stuck pixels already and after that, I thought that my lcd controller was failing due to scan lines appearing on the display. I got that repaired but today the lines appeared again! The weirdest part is that I can replicate it! I seem to get the problem only when launching Elden Ring at full-screen with freesync on.... I tested the same thing with Bayonetta (another 60fps capped game) and it runs with no issue. I can play the game at borderless windowed, but I just want to know If my monitor is dying or if LG just did a crap freesync implementation. Here is a video of me switching between borderless and fullscreen until the monitor craps out https://vimeo.com/828155382?share=copy

Hi I have a Philips 346P1CRH/00 monitor that should be AdaptiveSync compatible according to shops and philips.com. It is attached via a DP 1.4 cable (albeit a 10m /30ft long one). Adrenaline lists FreeSync as incompatible and I was wondering if the cable might just be too long or if there are picture options like HDR that might automatically invalidate FreeSync? I already called Philips support but not only was I called rude for disagreeing with their statement that the monitor did not support FreeSync, they claim AdaptiveSync is a different technology altogether. I'm pretty sure that's false but frankly, lately I feel like I'm getting old (or getting gaslighted, who knows these days) so I thought I'd check with you guys what my options were. I just noticed in the manual that there should be an option to activate or deactivate AdaptiveSync but it just isn't there... The Manual lists compatible GPUs but they're all from the R9. Is there something in the standard that might prevent more modern cards to communicate with this monitor? Is the monitors implementation too old or something?

First of all I would like to clarify that I have checked other topics about flickering and non were exactly the same as mine and the given solutions either didn't help my case or were obviously not applicable in my situation. With that out of the way back to the issue at hand. My monitor- HP 22x has a weird flickering issue which is present when browsing the internet and sometimes on my desktop itself, but not when playing games (doesn't seem like the game or it's settings matter), or using programs like Blender. The flickering itself is rather odd as its not the entire screen but only a horizontal line near the top that flashes white or black. Sometimes the lines doesn't even go across the entire horizontal axis. Scrolling or staying static on a web page doesn't change or much or how often it flickers. In general it is quite rare, but sometimes it happens multiple times one after another. I have set my monitor at 144Hz (in the settings it says 144,01Hz) and I have it connect to my GPU (GTX 1660 Super) via HDMI cable. The resolution is 1080p if that matters. Freesync is on in the OSD, the monitor has been updated with the latest drivers from the manufacturer, same goes for the GPU. I have tried changing the refresh rate, updating everything and messing around with the OSD settings (in the end had to do a factory reset) and non of this helps! I tried messing around with Chrome settings too- turning on and off both smooth scrolling and hardware acceleration- again neither helped. Also G-Sync option is missing from my control panel but from I have read on this forum I need a display port cable to be using G-Sync with a compatible monitor, which this one claims to be, however I do not want to buy a new game (which is oddly expensive there I live) if that won't help. (Both the computer and monitor are about a week old. All new parts and freshly installed Win10.) Thank you for reading through!

When I turn V-sync on, games feel much smoother but I get annoyed by the occasional frame stutters (framerate dipping slightly below monitor refresh rate). When I turn v-sync off, screen tearing starts to become a problem. The weird thing is, my framerate with v-sync turned off is well above my monitor refresh rate of 144hz. Shouldn't my gpu then, with v-sync turned on, have no problems running at 144 FPS, so that I won't have frame stutter?

Hi, I am wondering if anyone has the Acer 4K CB282K Monitor and if they know if it is G-Sync compatible? I know it is a FreeSync monitor but was wondering if anyone has had luck with Nvidia Cards. I plan on buying the monitor used and see a good deal - if anyone know if Adaptive sync works with Nvidia Cards then I am going to pull the string and buy it. Thanks!

Hello I was trying to find a deal this black Friday and cyber Monday but with no good results so now I'm trying to find out the best value for money ultra wide monitor I can find within my budget. Requirements: inches: at least 34" ultrawide aspect ratio: at least 21:9 resolution: at least 3440 x 1440 refresh rate: at least 120Hz. A big plus would be gsync or gsync compatible freesync with at least 100 Hz with it enabled. budget: around 400 euros (+-50) I want to use it for both gaming and productivity like coding/modeling/art. So a high refresh rate, and good colours are what I need. From my search I was looking at the Xiaomi mi Curved 34" (which is about 400 euro here) and the Samsung Odyssey G5 LC34G55T (which is at around 420 euro). Also the Gigabyte G34WQC at around 520 euro. Please let me know which of the two you would recommend and any other recommendations on other monitors in the same price category. Thank you for your time!

Hi, I recently bought relatively cheap UW 3440x1440 VA monitor from Huawei which is the Mateview GT, Good UW monitor for the price. I noticed that in some game there is screen flicker specially in bright areas like blue skies and in games like Anno 1800 and Planet Zoo, I dont noticed it in AC Valhalla or Dirt Rally 2.0 Even if frames in mid 80s and 90s which is within freesync range (No LFC) I still notice the flickering. When I turn off the freesync the issue disappears, I didnt notice tearing of increased lag when freesync off. Anyway to reduce flickering? I'm fine keeping Freesync off since I dont notice a change between on and off, but If I can reduce flickering with Freesync on it would be better. Thanks.

Hi, A local store has ASUS 34" PG349Q on sale of great price, however, the Monitor is only Gsync, So was wondering If I can pair with my 6800XT, will Radeon software recognize it or not? will I have tear free experience?

I hope im posting this in the correct place, and didnt find a topic like this before, if there is please link me because I couldnt find it. I have a 144hz Gsync compatible, Freesync Monitor, specifically the Gigabyte G27F and I've been noticing random flickers almost like the monitor is turning itself on and off again whenever I turn on gysync in Nvidia control Panel, it happens at random times, and stops as soon as I turn G-Sync off. I have tried setting the refreshrate down to 120hz, Ive tried with V-sync both on and off, I dont know what could be the issue. If anyone could help that would be great. Idk if this is important but i do have a GTX1080, and Ryzen 3700x and 16gb of ram, I dont think my pc hardware is the issue but someone smarter than me can tell me Edit: I am using the Display Port Cable that came with the monitor

Is there a list somewhere of G-Sync monitors that are Freesync compatible? Mine is not, so I was wondering if I could find out, prior to purchasing, if a monitor is compatible because I have an AMD card at the moment.

Hey guys, I have just bought a 240hz monitor. Its an ALIENWARE 2521HFA and I was wondering if I should have freesync enabled for the least input lag. I mainly play Valorant and sometimes CSGO. In valorant I can maintain 220-300 fps almost always but from time to time I do dip below 200. So I was wondering if I should have freesync enabled for those time? Does freesync increase input lag by a noticable amount? If I turn freesync on should I limit my fps in any way? Thanks for the answers.

Hi, I own a Dell Inspiron 7567 (i7-7700HQ with a 1050 Ti gpu) and am planning to buy a monitor with AMD freesync. I've heard that freesync works with Nvidia cards but only through display port. Since 7567 only has a HDMI 2.0 port, I was wondering if I plugged the monitor into the laptop through USB 3 with an adapter for display port, would that work and if it did would the USB be connected directly to the dgpu or the igpu. I'm kinda sure that it'll work but I'm not sure if it would have any difference in performance compared to connecting it through HDMI. Has anyone ever tried this, if so are there any issues with doing it like this?

Hello, Ive recently upgraded from my Ryzen 5 5600G intergrated graphics to a GTX 970. I once enjoyed the use of freesync on my monitor, however I cannot use this anymore because the function is only available on 1000 series cards or later. Is there any way to still having freesync? I have an LG Ultragear 27GN850 - B monitor which I specifically bought to be sure I have g-sync. It is a QHD 144hz display which I've been using with a GTX 1650 super, and g-sync has been great. I am potentially purchasing a newer AMD gpu however, and am hoping someone can assure me that the VRR will work. When I looked at AMD's compatibility site, this monitor isn't listed, but when you look at the product details on retail sites it says it supports g-sync and freesync, but I don't see what version. I assume this is a g-sync ultimate display as it is 144hz so hopefully that means it is Freesync Premium Pro compatible, but if I am going to get a more powerful card I want to be sure this monitor can handle the frames. Can any monitor masters provide an answer? Thanks

I got an LG 32QN600 display, 1440p, 75hz, Freesync. When I plugged it in it would only display 60hz and Freesync was off. When I turned Freesync on, the refresh went to 75hz, but the res went down to 1080p, and I can't find any way to display 1440 with 75hz. Is this just a design flaw, or could there be a way to achieve that? Thank you!

Hello, so as the title suggests i'm facing some rather frustrating and downright blood boiling problems, I play really only a couply of games, some being demanding and others not so much but in almost all of them I get stuttering when framerates drop by 20,25 or even 30 but not when it drops by 10 so i'm really wondering what could be the issue here. I've tried: - Reinstalling W10 - Using DDU on GPU drivers - Capping framerates using Rivatuner and Nvidia Control Panel - Lowering Graphics (this one funnily works as FPS mostly remain stable and I see practically no stutters or even tearing) Games i've played and tested: - Star Wars Battlefront 2 (Ultra Settings, 1440p, no stuttering as FPS mostly lingers around 80ish and is smooth] - Dead by Daylight: (Ultra-High Settings, 1080p, minimal but noticeable stutters as game is capped to 62 fps but can be unlocked, stutters happen even at around 58-59 fps) - Witcher 3: (High Settings, 1440p, steady 60-70 fps but of course with some noticeable stutters when frames drop by 10-15) and the list could go on but you get the point. Specs: CPU - Ryzen 7 3700x RAM - G Skill Ripjaws 16GB 3200mhz Motherboard - MSI B450 Tomahawk Max GPU - EVGA RTX 2060 SSDs - Crucial MX500 500 GB (System Drive) and Crucial P1 1TB (Games Drive) PSU - Corsair TX650m Monitor - LG Ultragear 27GL850-B (Freesync but its Gsync Compatible + running on DisplayPort) Is there another setting that needs to be paired with Freesync? I've got Adapative Sync turned on in the monitor settings and all the necessary Gsync settings in NVCP. Any suggestions and input appreciated. Thanks.

Hello guys A week ago I bought the VG242YPbmiipx / VG242YP gaming monitor and noticed that the monitor starts ghosting as soon as I enable AMD Freesync in the OSD. It's especially bad when scrolling through an article which as a white background and black text because I get these black smears. The weird thing about this is that I don't get any ghosting when Freesync is OFF. According to the OSD all settings like the Overdrive function stay the same (overdrive: set to normal) and only freesync is being changed. Overdrive set to normal and Freesync off => no ghosting, no smears, all good Freesync on (sets overdrive to normal) => Ghosting issues and black smears Overdrive set to extreme no freesync => Ghosting issues and black smears Here are some technical infos about my system: Monitor Refresh rate: I'm running it on 165Hz but the problem is present at 144Hz as well GPU: MSI Radeon RX 470 Gaming X 4G CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 Mobo: MSI Tomahawk MAX RAM: 16GB 3200Mhz DDR4 Cable: Display Port 1.2 OS: Windows 10, Build 19043.1083 AMD driver version: 21.6.2 I suspect that the monitor enables the extreme overdrive mode without actually showing it but since it greys out the OD function while freesync is on, I can't do anything against it. Is there any fix for this issue? Or do I have to return it? Freesync / Freesync Premium should not cause this problem afaik

I've been thinking of buying a new monitor (I currently have an RTX 2060 Super) and the best one I've come up with is FreeSync only, though it's been listed as "Compatible (Tested)" by https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/acer/nitro-xv272u-kvbmiiprzx. Now I know that you can enable G-Sync on FreeSync monitors, but I'm concerned that there may be issues (possibly the reason this monitor isn't "certified" by Nvidia. Do you guys know if there will be any issues/incompatibilities with this setup, or am I overreacting? I tried googling a bit and I only found a few people posting about not being able to enable HDR or having flickering issues, though I don't know if those have been fixed in driver updates or are issues with their particular monitor. Any insight on this is appreciated. Thanks!
