Hello All, I'm looking to upgrade my AMD desktop I built in 2013 without spending much money by keeping and reusing most of my existing parts. I currently have a ASUS F2A85-V PRO FM2 AMD A85X (Hudson D4) motherboard with a AMD A10-6800K Richland 4.1 GHz (4.4GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 100W Quad-Core Processor water cooled with 16GB of DDR3 RAM currently with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card. I have dual graphics turned off in bios, since I didn't notice an improvement with it turned on, so my A10 processor can work independently freeing up the graphics portion. I watched the techs tips video about using APU processors with graphics cards and that you can have some performance improvement vs cost. I bought the processor first then added the graphics card years later. My desktop has been a work horse for me for 10 years without much issue and I'd like to give it some overdue love. It started with a traditional spinning HD, I upgraded to SSD a couple years ago. With the read/write performance boost of M.2 SSD's, I want to see if I can upgrade it again. I know some FM2+ motherboards are backwards compatible with the standard FM2 processor (the minus 2 CPU pins) and that some motherboards support using M.2 SSD using an adapter card. My main question is if there is a FM2+ motherboard that has a M.2 SSD slot rather than trying to use an adapter card and taking up a PCIe lane and if not, what recommended motherboards would be good using an adapter card to use an M.2 SSD. Any information would be awesome into giving my electronic child some love. Thank You, G_MAN_LIVES

So i recently brought a H100I GTX for my amd build for a Athlon 860k and i decided to overclock. I acheived upto 4.2ghz stable but there's a problem the only two options relating to cpu frequncy are auto (which turns off my OC) or manual which pins my cpu at 4.2 ghz all the time, which i don't like. How can i set the frequency to dynamic on a ASRock FM2A88X-ITX+? A friend of mine have an old system, it's running an a8 7600 and is basically a potato. He did however, finally had enough money to buy a gpu. Looking into the options in the budget category, and RX570 would be a no brainer. But would it be too much for an a8 7600? We could get a 1050ti -- even a 1650 as far as I know and it would still be outperformed by the RX570 at a cheaper price. As long as fortnite could be played at 60fps on low to med settings he would be happy with it to be honest. TL:DR Would an RX570 be too much of a bottleneck for an A8 7600?

So, I wanted to build a secondary PC for hometheatre and a bit of gaming. I found that I still have a AMD A10 7870k with a fiting motherboard and RAM lying around, but the cooler had no RGB and thats unacceptional. So could I mount the AMD stock cooler to a FM2+ board?

Hopefully this is the correct board to post this! TL;DR I need a Mini ITX motherboard (FM2) for less than $70. I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 5 build and have a bunch of old parts from my previous FM2 build that I would like to make into a functioning computer. The motherboard that I was using with the FM2 CPU was a Micro ATX MB. That being said I would not mind using the Micro ATX MB I currently own if a very small Micro-ATX case (around $50) can be recommended (I want the portability of an ITX system). I am planning on using my old MSI Twin Frozr 750Ti in the build if I have height and length clearance. All the FM2 ITX MBs I have seen are all around the $110 range and is out of my budget at the moment. Finally, I would like to add that I would not mind switching socket types or even switching to Intel if I can find a Mini ITX MB and CPU for a decent price (no more than $120 for both the MB and CPU combined). To give an idea of what games I am looking to run (for alternative CPU recommendations): Skyrim, Resident Evil series, DOTA 2. Essentially, non current generation games. Thank you for the help!

My cousin brought his computer over to see if I could fix it. The computer is an older A8 5600k in an ASRock FM2A75M-DGS motherboard. It does not boot to the PCI Express video source. The system used to work with the 7870 without an issue and my cousin told me that it was working one day, the next day he turned it on and it stopped. I have tried 3 different GPUs, the original 7870, a 960 and an old 5450. I cannot get them to boot with video but once got the 5450 to show the screen through VGA when I moved the VGA cable from the onboard to the 5450, but the system was hard locked. When I remove the GPU and plug the monitor directly into the onboard it will boot and show video and run just fine. In the BIOS it shows in the North Bridge that it is PCI Express preferred, when I changed it to onboard preferred it booted to the onboard while the video card was plugged in. I tested the 7870 in another computer and it was fine, I also tested the RAM in another computer and it was fine. The only thing I have not swapped is the PSU but that was why I tried the 5450 as it does not require anything but the motherboard to power it. I have also tried to reset the BIOS, but still no joy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

so ive got 2 spare setups: LGA 771 X5460 modded to a 775 mobo and 8Gb of DDR2 (4x2gb) and A8 5600k, 8gb DDR3 (1x8gb) on a fairly decent overclocking Asrock mobo (cant remember model number right now) now the reason why i'm asking which is best is because i'm giving one of these setups to a friend so she can play some less demanding games (yes she will be getting GPU probs a 750ti or equivalent). I've used both setups in the past and overclocked both to as far as i could take them before limiting factors kicked in, X5460 @3.9 before ram max FSB kicked in and The A8 just got too toasty for me to be comfortable with but both yielded decent improvement from stock, if i remember correctly the X5460 performed better but i cant remember as i was using them at different points in time and that's why i'm asking here, does anybody have any actual evidence of which performs best? I've seen posts in which people are saying the X5460 is up there with the i3 2120 which i know for a fact is still very capable (friend of mine is running one in his main rig) and ive seen posts saying the A8 5600k is sort of just behind the i3 2120 so im just looking for evidence or first hand experience from people on which is best performing. NOTE: by less demanding games i'm referring to like: Half Life series, Doom 2k16 (which i know for a fact can run on a Q6600), life is strange Cheers.

So looking to make some upgrades when I get my tax returns, and yes you can roast me for the absolute potato that I play on. I only go for 1080 60fps. What I currently have: MSI MS-7778 AMD A8-550 8 GB DDR3-1600 1 TB Sata HD (I don't think that matters much in my case) GeForce GTX 660 And a 500 Watt Evga psu ------------------------------------- Mostly what I play is CS, rocket league, and right now of course fortnight. I noticed I get frame rate pretty bad near and in tilted towers (-60 frames) I just thought I need to upgrade my gpu but I'm pretty sure it is my cpu/ram. Ram is pretty easily up-gradable I don't have any questions on that, but on the cpu side of things I am stuck in a FM2 socket. I looked into what I could upgrade in the FM2 socket and everything looked pretty slow. Was I missing a cpu that would actually be beneficial for me to get or give me a decent fps improvement? Or should I be looking down the new mobo/ processor route. I'll look to spend ~100-135 usd Thanks for your guys time Edit: Someone recommended this to me elsewhere but is it actually realistic to think I could get this price See if you can get a hold of a used Haswell i3 or i5 system on the cheap. Oftentimes businesses will offload their old equipment for under $100, and it'll come with a much better CPU, motherboard, and usually a single stick of memory. Add in your existing 8GB, GPU, HDD, PSU, and case, and you'll likely see a boost in frame rate.

Hi I bought a pre-built pc about a year ago. Specs are: AMD A4-5300 APU (sigh) MSI FM2-A75MA-P33 Motherboard 4GB of ram (I have since upgraded to 16GB) I was looking to upgrade and decided on an RX460 and an Athlon X4 860K but am unsure on compatibility between them and the motherboard. Would there be an issue or am i fine with this combo? Is there any way in which i could improve (Budget £200)?

I recently posted about thermal-throttling issues on my rig running an AMD A8-7600. In the aftermath I started thinking about the best upgrade course. See whole PC spec on my profile, in the linked thread or... TL;DR - AMD A8-7600, 4GB DDR3, GTX 970, SSD & HDD, ITX. All I really do on this machine play Final Fantasy XIV, steam-games and odd interests that crop up like The Division, however I want them played as well as possible within my means. After building the ITX machine I've been left very, very strapped for cash on doing anything major like a new motherboard to Intel or AMD FX chips. So that leaves me on my current platform. My question is: What's the best possible upgrade I'm looking at on my current motherboard (ASRock FM2A88X-ITX)? Ideally I'd love to get a CPU, not an APU as I'd LOVE to experiment with overclocking I appreciate the AMD X4 CPUs are old. I'm running an amd Phenom II X4 955 on a spare machine and it throttles much less, but still throttles. Plus that's AM3. If it's one of the A10 APUs, so be it, but I just prefer the idea of a CPU having used both, really. Anyway. I know a lot less about computers in general than my language dictates. Halp? Thanks in advance. This forum has been amazing so far for me.

I currently have an fm2 mobo, which of these cpus should i upgrade to? amd a10 7890k amd athlon 880k P.S (i backordered a rx 480 a month ago but i'm unsure on how long i have to wait and would like to game as soon as possible)

So, I have an A10-7700K. According to UserBenchamrk, the Athlon X4 845 will give me a 22% performance boost. I've found it on NCIX for $80 CAD. Is it worth it. If it is, I might even sell my 7700K. Here's a link to UserBenchmark: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Athlon-X4-845-vs-AMD-A10-7700K-APU-R7-Graphics/m84491vsm9888 Thanks

Before ordering the Cooler Master T4 cooler, I was not aware that it would only be able to mount in the horizontal position on AMD motherboards. This created a problem with ram clearance issues when trying to mount it onto the micro atx motherboard I am using. On this particular board there is a 2 inch clearance between the cpu socket and face of the nearest ram dimm slot. Half of the cooler length is 2.5 inches. Would this same issue exist with the hyper 212 evo mounted with it's back plate, or does the back plate allow the cooler to be mounted in the vertical position? I'm not about to tear apart my main computer to find out.

Hi every one im trying to sort out a gaming pc build for a friend of mine the only issue is that it is very value oriented as he is only an apprentice and as such he doesn't get paid very much and is currently stuck with his old non gaming laptop i've also only ever put together one pc which was my own so any mistakes i made (which i did) were not as much of an issue as they would be for him. i believe that the system below should give decent performance in games whilst keeping it small for portability purposes, the issues i'm having are 1, the processor i'm not sure how well it will perform and how the power supply will hold up with that graphics card. if i can get any advice on how the system might perform and its cost effectiveness that would be great. Mother board: ASRock FM2A88M-HD+ CPU: AMD A10 7850K CPU cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120V Graphics card: My old Gigabyte windforce R9 290x Power supply: 850W Aerocool Integrator Boot and storage drive: 1TB Seagate Barracuda Ram: 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair DDR3 XMS3 Case: Thermaltake Core V21 OS: Windows 10 Thanks in advance.

I'm curious to know how well would that cpu run games like Battlefield,GTA,Metal Gear Solid & the new Star Wars Battlefront? I know a i3 would be better and all but I would like to know how good is the Athlon 860K. So if anyone can let me know that would be great! Thanks.

AMD today officially announced the AM4 socket for the upcoming Summit Ridge and Bristol Ridge family of Zen-Based APUs and CPUs. This confirms the rumors over the past year that Bristol Ridge and Summit Ridge products will indeed be using a unified platform with the AM4 socket! The current AMD's platform has 3 different sockets like AM3+. FM2+, AM1 (entry level). And then there is little news about A10, they've launched A10-7890K. k. Source: Legit Reviews, Hot Hardware.

So my motherboard recently passed away and I'm looking to replace it. I need a good low budget friendly fm2/fm2+ motherboard, so far the best I've found is this one by Gigabyte. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaf2a78md3h If you guys have any other recommendations for around the same price then feel free to throw them at me.
