fixing successive right hinge breaking issue
doosrikothi posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hi, I own and currently use an ASUS ZenBook 14 UM425I since 2020. I was experiencing issues opening and closing the lid so I opened the laptop up to check... only to see that the right hinge screw holes are completely destroyed and broke off from the body. Is there any way to fix this? This issue is peculiar because my previous laptop (Dell Inspiron Gaming 15) had this very same issue on the right hinge breaking up after 3 years of use. Situation was worse there because the broken hinge caused the wifi cable, camera and much more that goes through the hinge to break. I'm lucky I opened this laptop on time otherwise I'm sure this would've gone bad soon as well. I see a pattern emerging with my usage case and I need help figuring that out as well. Funnily enough my roommate has the same Dell laptop that first broke for me and his laptop never had any issues with the hinge. Any leads on this would be appreciated!- 2 replies

I'm curious what programs/tools people have, and what you guys (and gals) use them for. I'm soon to be finishing up my CCNA and hope to familiarize myself with such programs/equipment before being thrown in the deep end. Any suggestions will be helpful! Currently I use pretty basic stuff; malwarebytes, superantispyware, and ccleaner for generic maintenance and removing tricky programs, Wireshark for monitoring traffic, VirtualBox to test things in without completely screwing myself, and I got the password recovery key 2.0 that Linus did a video about a while back.

Just the title. Can't click on profile picture to log out, or click on that 3x3 square icon to browse services. Google classroom is black bar'd at the top. Doesn't work on other browsers as well. Does work on my other PC though. "BOLDED" happens when I click on it. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling chrome and clearing cache cookies all that stuff. Restarting doesn't help.

I have a Logitech G502 Gaming Mouse that I recently disassembled to fix the left click button. I fixed the Omron button with fairly no issues. The trouble I'm having is actually putting the top shell of the mouse back onto its base. I've been trying for days now to get everything inside to line up, so that it will click tight & flush back together. This is proven to be an extremely frustrating & impossible task. If anybody has any tips or magical tricks to make this happen, please send a reply.

Alright so I have like 8 years old laptop that has some of the "important" emails on it from outlook and i can only login from that laptop But it wont boot ... ( it is windows XP ) I get to the boot selection like - Start windows normally , with networking, command prompt or last boot that worked I tried every single one of those and none of them get to desktop they just make my laptop reboot over and over and over. I went onto the boot settings there are no indications of anything not working It is booting from 1. Optical drive and 2. Notebook hard disk I tried switching it out from some reason hoping it would work but of course it doesn't. Does anyone have any solution to this problem ? It might be that simply some parts are not working but if they all are do you guys know a solution to fix this? Huge thanks in advance.

I found a gtx 1070 online which has a broken fan, It's really cheap (about$220). I was thinking of buying it and getting these fans from ali express and replacing them, I would also clean and replace the thermal paste. The original owner says he's used it for one year and that he never mined on it. Should I get it? Is there any risk the fans won't work? I've opened many gpus and I won't break it. Atm I have a 950 which can't run most games even at 1080p and I want to upgrade. Before asking, where i love used 1070 go for around $340.

Hi! In my room stands a nice looking pc. One problem. It's old, like 8 years or even more. Unfortunately it doesn't work anymore. Now I tried to fix it, rewiring everything and cleaning a bit up (dust). But still, it doesn't work, I think one or more components are defect and I am trying to figure which, but I just can't. So, is there anyway I can know which component it defect and doesn't work anymore, so maybe I can replace it?

i have a logitech g402 Hyperion fury gaming mouse that i got 5 years ago and its been working for a long time, the only problems have been that i accidentally dropped it on the scroll wheel. i managed to realign the wheel so that the middle click button worked but the rubber outer part of the wheel has these tiny "flaps" that are supposed to fit in some small holes in the plastic inner part of the wheel. i attempted to use tweezers to put them back in but it ended up causing a small rip in one of the flaps and didnt fix anything, any advice on what i should do? i really like the mouse but idk how to fix it

HI, first time writing here. I have a Lenovo Legion Y520 laptop. i bought it new in the end of 2017, and it's failing... the sytem is run by a Intel core i5-7300HQ and a GTX 1050 mobile 2GB DDR5 vRAM (READ, not a TI) and 8GB of DDR4 RAM. the problem is this, my graphicscard is failing big time, windows disables it automaticly because it notices that the problem of the crashes and the blue screens of death are the card. every time i am trying to reinstall the drivers, removing the card completely and starting from the start and downloading the drivers manually, the laptop crashes and shows the blue screen of death. the problem started in about in august 2018. and is was just one crash... nothing much about it, it can happen. but then the crashes started more frequently and then when i played a game (skyrim heavily modded, with graphics mods ofc) the game would show 2 fps where it would be normal to be 30-40FPS (not knowing that windows has switched of my 1050) it was about then i became worried, i contacted lenovo tech support after doing the basics and reinstalling drivers, flashing the BOIS etc. the support contacted me and i sent over the laptops information via lenovo companion. they emailed me back and said that nothing was wrong and that they could not find a hardware problem, a week after that i got a standard email on how i rated there help (gave it a 4-10, because customer support was nice and patient, but listend badly on what i already hade tried to fix the problem) anyway i said in that review email that the problem was not fixed and a other tech support called and we got a bit more advanced, never heard form her again, even tho she siad that she would email me what and how to fix the problem. this was about 2 months ago, (my review for the support is now at a -197 of 10) so i have lived with my laptop on the intel graphics and i only can play minecraft and the elder scrolls oblivion all on low settings...... not much more, my HDMI output sometimes works sometimes it does not.... that one also started around that time. things are starting to get really boring and winter break is over, starting school tomorrow and i am going to be bored af at the breaks..... back to the computer and not my personal life.... the blue screen of death error codes are: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED the failing: nvlddmkm.sys VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE the failing:nvlddmkm.sys (btw this error code is the most common) VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR the failing: non shown if any questions please ask and i will try to answer them as best as i can. BUT PLEASE HELP ME FIX MY LAPTOP!!! (almost crying because it doesn't work)

Hi everyone, I’m typing this message after hours trying to get this slider into place. I fixed for someone his laptop (ASUS N76VZ) and installing a fresh SSD and cloned his data to a new 2,5inch drive. Before I would have taken the drive out the computer and put new ones in I wanted to get the battery out and swap the drives. At the moment I slit the slider to get the battery out the button came off and the battery is stuck. It looks like the slider was full open, so the battery had to came out, but it doesn’t. I tried and I tried to get at least the battery out with a few plastic tools and sliding the plastic underneath even more open, but the battery keeps being stuck. Also the slider I can’t reattach because the plastic underneath that does the opening-mechanism bend down, and so the button won’t reattach. I don’t have high hopes, but maybe there is someone here who can help me with this problem. I feel so stupid and I don’t know what to do. There is not any plastic broken on the slider nor the opening-machinism underneath, it looks like. In the attachment are some pictures of the problem. Thanks!

Hello the images below shows my GTX 660 which according to my dad has a burnt IC. The burnt chip has been labelled Q7 as shown below in the images. I would like to know if there's a possibility of fixing this. plugging this gpu to my PC as it is now sometimes makes my PC to bootup but with no video. sometimes it will not turn on at all as i think my mobo has detected there is a short circuit. Your support at fixing this would be very helpful as even used GPUs are very expensive from where i come from. Thank you

Hello there, Tldr version: Need suggestions on CPU block, manifold, radiator and reservoir for following components. Also need to know if I missed anything important. Long version: I am building my first water cooled PC with a custom loop. I have built many PCs here and there for family and friends before but never ventured into the world of liquid cooling. I have gone over the FAQ already and wanted to know if my list is missing anything important. This is definitely going to be an overkill machine for my standards but I have decided to take the plunge at this point. All things considered, I care most about the aesthetics of the PC, and then the performance and then the noise level. I do want to run games in 4K and also run occasional video compression and encoding. I have never experimented with overclocking before; may be I will give it a try with this one. My budget is flexible. This is what I have so far: Intel Boxed Core I7-6700K 4.00 GHz 8M Processor Cache 4 LGA 1151 BX80662I76700K ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII GENE LGA1151 DDR4 M.2 SATA 6Gb/s USB3.1 Type A Type C Intel Z170 mATX Motherboard Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB DDR4 DRAM C13 Memory Kit, CMK64GX4M4A2133C13R I am debating whether to go with 32 or 64GB; I usually get an itch if something is under utilized. EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti HYDRO COPPER GAMING (X 2) One might be enough for my needs, but with 2 I don't have to worry about upgrading in the near future. Corsair RM Series 1000 Watt ATX/EPS 80PLUS Gold-Certified Power Supply - CP-9020062-NA RM1000 Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case CC-9011030-WW - Black I have bought the case already at a discount price so I am pretty much stuck with it. I do like the boxy look of it though. I also have 2 4TB Seagate SHDDs (will run in RAID 1) and will get 3-4 Samsung pro SSDs (not sure about the capacity yet - this is for dual/triple booting). Now the water cooling components: If I understood FAQ correctly, a system like this would need at least 3X240mm of Rad space (when counting CPU + 2 GPUs whose accumulative TDP comes to just under 600W). I wasn't sure where to start on Radiators, so a quick Google search yielded a review site that compared relevant radiators of 2015. Their overall best contender was EK’s XE 360 in thick category (60mm) and Hardware Labs Nemesis GTS in slim category (21.2 mm). If I decide to mount the reservoir in the drive bay slot then I can probably get away with 2 thick 360 mm radiators in the front; If I mount it with rest of the components then I will have to go with the slim one. Feel free to make suggestions here. I don't even know if I need a thick radiator or if an average or slim size will be sufficient. I have had my eyes on the Liquid Fusion X4 Quad Spiral Reservoir for a while but I was always afraid that my case may not have room for it; so I was delighted to find Liquid Fusion Dual Bay Reservoir, which sits in the dual bay drive. If I use the dual bay drive reservoir this leaves me more room for thicker radiators. The question is, do I need thicker radiators for my setup? I prefer the quad spiral but I will settle for dual bay reservoir without any complaints. I will be using six of these fans in pull configuration: Thermaltake Riing 12 Series High Static Pressure 120mm Circular LED Ring Case/Radiator Fan with Anti-Vibration Mounting System Cooling CL-F038-PL12RE-A Red The pump I picked is Performance-PCs Über 655 Fully Modded (D5) 12 VDC Water Pump - Red. Most forums say make sure it's a D5 pump and nothing else matters. I want to have a red/black theme on there and will add UV reactive red liquid to hard acrylic tubes. The loop will probably go like this: Reservoir > Pump > CPU block > GPU 1 block > GPU 2 block > Rad 1 > Rad 2 > Reservoir. I will be using the Primochill 1/2" hard acrylic tubes that are available from Amazon. I haven't yet decided what fixings I will need. The FAQ page also recommended getting a manifold to drain acrylic tubes but I couldn't find much info on it anywhere else. I also haven't looked at which CPU blocks are available right now - I would prefer one with a red LED. There are many other areas where I want to modify things in but I can discuss them later. Sorry about the long post but I am pretty detail oriented .

So I am having problems with my CM Storm Trigger that I bought 2 years ago. Occasionally my keyboard will disconnect from the computer and give me a warning that there isn't enough power to operate the USB device. However, when I plug the keyboard into a USB 3.0 port it still had the same problem. My guess is that the USB port on my keyboard is worn out as I replace the USB cable and it still have the same problem. Anyone have any ideas on fixing this problem? Thanks.
