  1. Budget (including currency): ~$3000 CAD (give or take) Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft, Valorant, Cyberpunk 2077, HL Legacy, VS Code, IntelliJ Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I have all the peripherals I'll ever need, and then some more I'd like to get some 27inch 1440p 144hz monitors. I currently have two monitors that I use hooked up to my MacBook which I will use until I decide to get new monitors. Suggestions for good gaming monitors would be really appreciated! (They can be outside of the budget stated above, they would be bought at a later date most likely) https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/9BCZVw This is the list of components me and a friend picked out, I've been told it might be a bit overkill for what I'm planning to do, but I really just don't want any bottlenecks whatsoever, as well as some future proofing If anyone has any advice on what I should change and what choices are actually idiotic, I would really appreciate it!
  2. Budget: $2500 USD Country: USA Games/programs: Really any game, but also things such as editing Other details: I already have the monitor in plan, my rig might end up being overkill "since the monitor is 1080p but it does have a very high refresh rate". I'm unsure if everything is combatable as it's my first time, it'd be nice for some reassurance, and with this build do you recommend I should buy more than the 2 case fans the CASE comes with and if so which one's? The build Cpu: I9-10850k Cpu cooler: Noctua NH-U12A Motherboard: MSI MPG Z490 GAMING EDGE Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 1 TB NVME HDD: Seagate BarraCuda 4 TB GPU: RTX 3080 "type unknown" Case: Fractal Design Meshify C ATX PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA GA 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply OP System: Windows 10 Now this all prices in around 2100 without including tax or shipping which my budget includes, is there anything I should downgrade "such as CPU" but I plan for this pc to last around 8 years without needing a full new system, also do I need a software such as McAfee Antivrius 2019 to be able to boot it "first time builder, I know bad time".
  3. Good day everyone, I would like to ask for opinions and recommendation for this build that I picked on my own CPU - Ryzen 5 5600x MOBO - Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite GPU - Gigabyte GTX 1650 (GPU too OP) RAM- Corsair Vengeance RT 2x8GB CL16 3200mHz SSD - Samsung 970 Evo plus 500gb NVMe M.2 PSU - MSI MPG A750GF 750W 80+ gold fully modular CPU Cooler - Coolermaster Hyper 212 Turbo Case - MSI MAG Vampiric 100R

  5. Budget (including currency): $2,000 - $2,500 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Destiny 2, Rainbow 6 Siege, Call of Duty Cold War, Halo Infinite, normal YouTube surfing and watching some movies and shows. Will primarily be for gaming. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Current PC is a Pre-Built Alienware R9 with an Intel I-7 9700K with 16 GB RAM and a Nvidia RTX 2070 GPU with an AIO CPU Corsair Cooler. Current Monitor is a HP 25X with 1080p Resolution and am able to run a constant 140 FPS on Destiny 2 on High Settings in game. What I am after or trying to find out is what build would be an upgrade and within my price budget? The Alienware is ok, however, I do not like the fact that I can't really upgrade each year or when major components come out, especially due to how small of space there is inside the case. Or would it be better to go to another Pre-Built like Digital Storm or iBuyPower type of setup? I would like to go with a build so I can get the experience in working on my own machine and have the satisfaction of building it, if that makes sense. Keeping all of this in mind, the only real PC upgrade/building experience that I have is replacing RAM sticks and adding a couple of SSD's to the PC. Any help, input, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kindest Regards,
  6. Budget (including currency): Min: $1000. Max: $2000. Country: USA ( West Coast ). Games, programs or workloads: World of Warcraft, Among Us, FTB modded Minecraft. Nothing super extensive but use Xbox Game Pass Ultimate so that could change. Discord for voice chat. Streaming Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime Video. Other details: No existing parts lists. Peripherals: Possibly a monitor upgrade from the Lenovo I currently use. What you're upgrading from: Currently playing on a 15" Surface Book 2 which is having GPU issues. When you're going to buy: Late Winter/Spring 2021 What resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc: Better than a potato - smooth enough but no need to be top of the market. This is going to be my first build. I have folks who are going to help me put it all together but I am so lost at where to start! This is a whole new language to me so any ideas/pointers would be rad. Thanks!
  7. I want to have a motherboard which is Asus Rog Strix B450-f Gaming II with NZXT H510 Elite. It says: A USB 2.0 to USB 3.2 Gen 1 header adapter is required. A USB 3.2 Gen 1 to USB 3.2 Gen 2 header adapter is required Where can I get them?
  8. So, I posted here before with a parts list that i threw together rapidly, and wasn't very good. Someone replied to that post with an alternative that I quite liked the look of, but by the time I got around to looking at buying these parts, a few were no longer available. SO. I picked out some alternatives, trying to keep as close to the recommendations they made as possible, but my lack of knowledge on this front is making me worried about trusting these picks. So I throw this list to y'all, and hopefully you can see what I can't, or confirm I'm not about to lose a sizeable amount of my hard earned money. For reference, this is the desired computer description I had on that post: Budget (including currency): 1500 - 2000 Usd. I'd like to keep the PC itself down to around 1500, and keep the rest for peripherals and the like. Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: It's going to be used as an everything machine. The three main points are somewhat modern games,(think more like fallout 4 and vermintide 2 than halo infinite), 3d modeling in blender, and to be capable of streaming. Other details: ID like to be able to run games at mid to high settings at a consistent 60fps while running other things like OBS. For resolution, I would love to reach 1440p , but something that could be moved over to 4k later down the line would be great. I don't want to go super huge on peripherals, and I have a functional mouse and keyboard already, but it would be nice to know about some better yet still reasonably priced alternatives. I'm going to be jumping from a 1650 ti (In original post I said 1080ti, Which is incorrect.) laptop to whatever I build, so no matter what I'll be seeing this as an improvement. Also, I'm going into this without any sort of OS, so recommendations on that front would be appreciated. And here is the link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/j9bV8r Any help is Appreciated. I REALLY don't want to screw this up Edit: More availability problems have changed up the list. Edit changed link. -Shy
  9. Budget (including currency): $1000 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games: more rpg/open world type, Assassin’s Creed, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc, some Minecraft, Roblox Work: general Microsoft and Google Suite work. May need lots of tabs open in Chrome Other details: I don’t really have anything. It’s more the idea of I want to build this semi as a hobby…but we also kinda need a computer better than the Chromebook we have. I honestly don’t know where to start. Like what CPU to start with that does what we want…but then that leads to a motherboard that’s compatible. Obviously, I can just go to partpicker and it’ll show compatibility, but again, I’m brand new to this “world” and would love some feedback.
  10. Well, it's time that I admit that my well-used laptop (nearly 10yo ThinkPad W510 - Intel i7-720QM & Quadro FX 880M) has a certain family resemblence to a Starchy Tuber. I've decided for a couple of reasons that I don't want to do the laptop thing again, but I do want something fairly compact. This would be my first scratch-build, though I have messed about in the case before, mostly back with 386/486/Pentium class stuff. Location: USA Budget: Flexible, but I'd like to see if/where I'm being inefficient. Current listing is ~$US900 all in on the electronics, not including case. I would love to get this number down to $US500ish. Timeframe: Probably a winter project. I procrastinate, and I work in the retail sector, so no time to mess with Black Friday deals. Use Case: Sort of moderately specd all-rounder, as I dabble in a lot of things. I'd like to hang on to it for a while. Light gaming. I'll be quite happy with 60 FPS on a single montior w/something like minecraft. I never play AAA titles, mostly weird open-source/indy stuff or old backlog games. Some 3d - think light blender use Ditto photo/image manipulation (Hobby level photography - Gimp and Inkscape, depending on what I'm up to) A bit of programming, possibly including compute-on-GPU - at a hobby level, so doesn't need to be the fastest at any one thing. General utility work - browsing, stream video, video-conference. Not a high bar, but I do tend to keep massive numbers of tabs open when I deep-dive into something. This is kind of where I've started: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Vbvmv3 CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 3.9 GHz 6-Core Processor (some alts in the listing) $128.00 (Intending to use the stock Wraith Stealh cooler, or if aftermarket needed, something similarly low-profile.) Motherboard ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming-ITX/ax Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard $159.99 Memory Silicon Power GAMING 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory $68.97 Storage Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive $59.99 Video Card MSI Radeon RX 6600 MECH 2X 8G Radeon RX 6600 8 GB Video Card (some alts in the listing) $189.99 Power Supply SeaSonic FOCUS SGX 500 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular SFX Power Supply $100, incl shipping on Ebay -- I Picked this one because it was less expensive than lower power PSUs from brands that I recognized. Stuff I have: 2x 1440p monitors, 60 hz All major peripherals OS will be some flavor of Linux - probably Arch, so no need for product key. Stuff not on the list that I know I need: Case. This one is going to be a custom build (As in "Start with a stack of Acrylic sheet and several feet of extruded aluminum angle bar") I have the hand and tool skills to deal with that and will take details to the appropriate forum. Not part of the budget that is listed here. Power button/power light/hdd light combo harness beeper speaker $2 Case ventilation fan(s)? (May need some help here) Case connectivity "Front" panel - hopefully including a memory card reader. 15.6"-17" class portable monitor, 1080p-2k range. Somewhere between $50-$125 depending on what I find on Ebay. PCIe3x16 Riser ribbon cable ~$30 So, are any parts here really unbalanced or over/under specd compared to the rest? I'm pretty much willing to be talked into anything, brand/model wise, if you make a good case. I do need WiFi, so either on-board or the cost of the expansion card factored in. A note on form-factor: I'm intending a rather odd bespoke case, so keep that in mind when suggesting stuff. I'm willing to be talked into, say, a micro-ATX motherboard if you've got a good reason, but there are some size constraints. I'm working with a notional volume 12"-14" x 17" x 3"-3.5" (300-360mm x 430mm x 90mm) internal measurements. These numbers can flex, but I'm not expanding it to fit in a full ATX board or PSU. Note that no matter what, the GPU will be off the main board on a riser ribbon laid parallel to the main board, so no need to limit to ITX/low profile cards . I still don't think I want to try make a tripple-thick card work, though.
  11. What's a good cheap CPU cooler? What's the best budget RAM? What's the best budget SSD storage? any recommended peripherals? How would I figure out what motherboard is compatible with which CPUs (whoops that was originally a typo)? Budget: less than $1000 CAD For video editing and gaming
  12. 1. Budget & Location for this build i have a max budget of US$1200 and i am located in Texas near a micro center if that helps 2. Aim primary purpose will be for School and running solid works and inventor with complex assembles ,blender, multiple containers and VMs. would would also like to be able to play space engineers, ksp, Gta V, and cyberpunk when it comes out. would prefer to play at 1080. Needs to have WiFi capability ideally i would like to prioritize science and i don't care for rgb just prefer coordination of colors 3. Monitors currently running two 1080p monitors and will eventually get a third most likely at 1440p 4. Peripherals if it can fit in the budget without sacrificing performance a 1440p monitor else no peripherals are needed and already have a copy of window 10 5. Why are you upgrading? upgrading because currently running off of a 2in1 laptop that sounds as if its going to take off when running solid works and struggles to render objects is also slow to run small coding projects and vms

  14. So im building myself my first gaming PC. I have a motherboard but its a server board with dual xeons. finding a case not so easy so Ive decided to do an open system like Linus's test bench. provides a bit more heat dissipation i guess. but how do I mount it to a board? spacers? offsets? I know it should be elevated so the bottom side of the motherboard can breathe a bit but how do I do this? Also my motherboard has no screws... Any help at all would be much appreciated.
  15. Hey all Karza Here I'm new into the building realm #joiningup #pcmasterrace. But most of all I'm excited and feel that I need input on the parts that I am choosing in my 1st $1500 build. Howeverm I don't want this to only game (Battlefield 1 to Skyrim), but to be a workstation as well to edit graphics and render videos using the Adobe software. My Set Up (consists of): CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler MOTHERBOARD: Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory (TOTAL 16GB) GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB FTW Hybrid Gaming Video Card PSU: COOLER MASTER V650 CASE: Rosewill RISE ATX Full Tower Case SSD: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Thanks xephoneration for the catch - I missed this important piece on my notes) Looking for great performance and efficiency and quality over quantity. 16. Hi there, I need some help/suggestions about my build would be much appreciated. I've been using my dell xps 17 laptop for almost 6 years now (running gt555m graphics xD) finally saved up enough money for a good build! My budged is around £2500 I've compiled this build myself from the research that I've done Do you guys know if all these parts are compatible with one another? And can this build be improved for cheaper or better parts? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01A9EN4YU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B010T6DCBS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3GB52LS5MMHQD https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01IHEUDWA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00TY6A1LY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ABQJGLE2G5CGH https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B014K3BFVU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A17AS5ETPMZ9A1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00L7UZMAK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0151KM6F0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A74X9SO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00V01C376/ref=ox_sc_act_title_9?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015FY4HLS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_10?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE Also would i need to buy thermal paste I think it doesnt come included with this stuff right? 18. Hi so I'm working on a Hackintosh build and the budget of this project is $2100. This is my FIRST Hackintosh build. I already had a good line up of what I wish for. I wanted to know if you guys think this is a good build, and would be compatible to do so. This might sound Odd, But I wanted to do this on a Old PowerMac G5 case just to make it more discrete in my workspace, plus I don't like the PC desktop tower cases in general, (and if you guys had any suggestions on where to do laser cutting for the fitments that would be awesome too.) Reason for a Hackintosh build in general, is for my Production use. I am an Audio Engineer and major in Recording, Mixing & Mastering. & Logic Pro X plays a Huge roll in my life as my Main DAW of choice. And I will be using Bootcamp to partition Windows 10 after the Mac Install is complete, graphics don't worry me too much, Which is why I am choosing a GTX 1060 to balance me out. So here is what I'm looking at so far.. PowerMac G5 Case Custom Cut. ASUS sabertooth Z170 Mark I Intel i7 6700k Kingston HyperX Ram cards DDR4, 32GB EVGA Geforce GTX 1060 ACX 3.0 (6GB model) Corsair Hydro series H100i Liquid Cooler (240mm) EVGA 850 GQ GOLD+, 850w Power Supply. WD 2 TB 7200RPM Samsung 250GB SSD LG Bluray Drive Copy of Macintosh Yosemite 10.10.5 So far I've estimated everything down to $1780 In parts. Please let me know If you think this is so far a good build, or If maybe any changes should be made for more reliablity. I would highly appreciate the advice! Thanks & I'm happy to be apart of the Linus Tech tips community! -Nick IG | @truleyy
  19. Hey guys, I just got the final parts posted to my house for my very first PC build. I see in a lot of Linus's videos that it's worthwhile to power everything up outside the case before mounting it all to ensure the hardware works. I'd like to know if there's anything specific I need for putting it together, and if there's any particular order I should be doing things in (Cable management, mounting storage, fans and PSUs and watnot). Some tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.
  20. So this is a first time build. I'm looking for some input on any changes that can make it more efficient. I gave it some room for upgrades down the line but like I said first time. I went for the aio for silent cooling and the psu for its fanless setting. Maybe I missed something. Thank you for your input. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bNYKtJ
  21. My old computer is an ancient Dell machine I bought in 2007. It is still running windows XP, with Ubuntu as my go-to OS. It is long past time for me to completely replace this ancient old machine. This is my first build. I am not aiming for the best of the best. I want to get solid performance for a reasonable price. Keeping options open for upgrading later is great but I expect to entirely replace this first build within a few years. I want to use this machine I am building to get my feet wet in the tech world. I am learning a whole lot and this machine is going to be a part of that. I want to be able to try out a wide range of things, so I want at least enough power to not be severely handicapped by the machine. I expect to know more about how I want to specialize by the next machine, a few years from now. For now, I just want a machine that will let me try out things like programming, content creation, rendering and other tasks I may get into in the course of my learning progress. I do enjoy gaming and am looking forward to having a machine that can run decent titles again, but I am not upset if I am missing out on a few frames. Part of the learning for me will be overclocking. I want to learn to overclock all the things with this build. I hope it will give me a some extra performance, but a big part of the reason I want to overclock is simply for the experience of learning how to do it. The style of the build is of very little consequence to me. I do not want RGB lighting and am not interested in any particular visual theme. I care about price to performance. I do care about noise levels, but I am not expecting miracles from my machine. However, I would spend a little extra for a little better noise levels. I don't mind paying a few extra bucks for quality products as well. I am not very familiar with brands and manufacturers, so I only know what I have picked up from doing research for this build. I don't want to pay extra to have some hip logo printed on a part, but I don't mind paying a bit more for higher quality parts. PC Parts Picker Link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gkgyGf CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Noctua - NH-U12S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: ASRock - AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: Gigabyte - Radeon RX 580 8GB Gaming 8G Video Card Case: Corsair - 200R ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair - CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Optical Drive: Asus - DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 8.1 Pro OEM 64-bit I already have the Case, Power Supply, and Optical Drive. I intend to run in Linux primarily. I have considered not getting Windows at all. I do not want to put Windows 10 on this machine for sure. I am thinking of running a duel boot to Windows 8.1 just because some programs I may want to use are a pain to run in wine. I hope by the time Windows 8 stops working for me I will either not need Windows at all or Windows 10 will have been improved a whole lot. (Hopefully I don't derail my own thread with this.) I am thinking the Ryzen 7 1700 over the Intel chips because I don't mind being a few frames behind for games, and I want the extra threads/cores for other tasks I want to explore. For the Video Card I am looking at the RX 580 because I want to go Freesync for the monitor. I am not stuck on the brand of card, I just selected the cheapest one from what seemed like a quality manufacturer. I would appreciate any suggestions for what upgrades would make the most noticeable difference for this build. If there is anywhere I can cut cost without cutting performance I am interested in that. And I am interested in any observations that may help me reduce noise levels. Again, I want the build to be able to handle at least an intro to a wide range of tasks as I learn and explore tech related pursuits. I do expect to play games, but I don't mind not using ultimate settings all the time. I will probably play a lot of shooters, and MMOs. A game I have enjoyed in the past, and expect to get into again, is Eve Online. It would be sweet if I could PvP with multiple accounts open, which I have heard is a CPU intensive situation. Thanks in advance for any advice. -JD
  22. I am hoping to get some feedback on what I am thinking in terms of my cooling strategy for a new build. I am also trying to double check if I will need any additional power adapters or extensions, so I can make sure to order all the parts that I will need. It would be very valuable to me if anyone wants to walk me through specifically how you would expect to power the fans, either through the motherboard or directly off the power supply. I am interested in what connections, extensions, or adapters you would need to do that which I will need to order. I am new to building PCs so this is as much about learning how to do it as it is about getting better performance. I understand that some of what I am doing may be over-thinking a fairly basic build but I want to learn what I can at the same time as I try to make things a little bit better. I value silence highly, though I understand that I will need to put up with more noise than I would wish. I also value performance. I do plan to learn to overclock with this machine so that may factor in as well. I do not care at all about RGB lighting and would prefer not to deal with it. A matching color scheme to the components is also irrelevant to me. The new build I am working on is here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qRHgVY I already have the Case, Power Supply, Optical Drive, and Keyboard. I have already placed an order for the GPU, RAM, and Motherboard. I am in the process of building my final orders with retailers trying to make sure I get the number of fans and any additional wires I need correct to save on headaches and shipping. I am new to shopping for parts, so am not very familiar with brands or the level of quality they represent. A lot of the reviewers I have been watching seem to favor Noctua for performance, but I am open to other brands as well. I have been watching some videos to become familiar with concepts like positive pressure, and static pressure vs airflow. I am going to shoot for positive pressure in my system. The case I picked out has 2x 120mm fans that came with it; one is on the front as an intake, the other at the rear as exhaust. I was planning to leave them in place. The front panel has filtering on it, so I was going to add another 120mm fan with good static pressure on the front even though it will be somewhat obstructed by the drive shelves behind it. So that would be 2x 120mm fans on the front for intake. Then the open side panel has ventilation and places to install fans so I was going to install 2 more fans (140mm) there as intake with a filter in front of them. I was thinking going for static pressure fans for those as well. Then the top of the case has a lot of ventilation cut into it with room for more fans. I was thinking of just using one 140mm high-airflow fan on top at the rear without a filter for exhaust. So I would end up getting 3x 140mm and 1x 120mm fans, plus the 2x 120mm fans the case came with. I would be pulling air in from the side and from the front, and pushing out the back and top. There is more ventilation on the top, back, and bottom where I hope the positive pressure will be pushing air out. The fans from the GPU seem a little odd to work around without creating a bunch of turbulence but it seems to me like the GPU fans won't conflict with the setup and will help push some air out the bottom of the case. The PSU is on the bottom but seems isolated by the walls of the PSU, except for what may come back in through the bottom of the case; but I think the positive pressure with some help from the GPU fans should take care of that. The ventilation in the side panel starts near the top. It looks like it would set the intake fans next to the CPU cooler. I am not 100% sure the top one would fit with the CPU cooler installed. Another thing I may consider is trying to rotate the CPU cooler to push air up instead of towards the back of the case, if the mounting system will allow for that. With all of these fans (I realize it may be a bit overkill) I will expect to have the 2x 3pin connectors from the fans that came with the case, plus another 4x 4pin connectors from the additional fans to plug in. I am having trouble telling exactly how many fan connectors there are on the Asus motherboard. I also don't know if I will need anything extra to plug some of the fans into the PSU. There is a "Peripheral" cable that came with the PSU which has 4pin connections that seems promising, but that seems like it would be female to female connections, unless the needed parts are included with the fans. Obviously I don't know what that cable is really supposed to be used with. Any help or insight is appreciated. I will continue doing research into the fans and trying to figure out the pins, cables, and connections. -JD
  23. Hello, I am building a pc for the first time and wanted some advice before committing to buying parts. I will be using the computer to play games, use 3d modeling softwares (like AutoCAD), and maybe VR in the future. Here is the build so far: CPU: Intel i7 7700k Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Motherboard: MSI - Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Memory Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive and Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive GPU: GTX 1080 ti PSU: EVGA - 850W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Case: be quiet! - Silent Base 800 (Orange) ATX Mid Tower Case with Windows, a keyboard, and a mouse, the build is about $2100. I have not yet decided on a monitor. Here's all my questions: 1) Is the PSU overkill? Pc part picker says the build is about 500W rn 2) Is there any part of the build that would bottleneck the others, or one part that is way better than the others? 3) Monitors? what monitor would you all recommend for this build? I want a fairly nice monitor to match the quality of the other parts in my build, but nothing too absurd on price. I am going to start with a single monitor, and maybe upgrade to a second once I save up some more money again. I am looking at 27 inch, 2560 x 1440 resolution monitors rn, specifically i was looking at the Asus - MG279Q, but am totally open to suggestions. 4) Any other thoughts on something I might need, or do you see any compatibility issues? All advice and general thoughts are appreciated, Thanks!
  24. Hello! So these are the parts I have chosen so far: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Knichtus/saved/9XVCJx So this is definitely going to be my first computer build, I've been planning a few years to make one, originally I was going to make a gaming pc which would be much cheaper, however I am a 3D Modeling and Game Design student and that means i often work in maya, photoshop, 3dsmax, unreal, and I'm also planning to explore cry engine. So I instead started making a build suited for this pursuit since i've been doing everything on a Asus ROG laptop for the past few years and would like something much, much beefier that can tackle both. The reason there is no CPU cooler is because I've also been looking into watercooling, which I've already priced with EKWB, which is not included with this as I'm still making the decision how far down the line am I going to do that. Since I might go air cooling initially while I save up for all the watercooling parts. Also I couldn't help but want a rgb themed build. I would definitely appreciate some feedback, maybe where I can cut costs or get a better bang for the buck, or other rgb shenanigans. I've been tweaking this build for a few months. For me this is worth the investment since I've been wanting to make my own custom pc for a long time.
