I have a problem with the fingerprint sensor on my laptop. The operating system behaves as if it does not exist and is not ready to set it. After updating the drivers, OS and firmware got me nowhere, I used Dell's troubleshooting software. In the end, after all else didn't work, I called their customer service, who told me to do the things I had already done. So I reinstalled OS and went to sleep. In the morning, the sensor still didn't work. I called them again, and after a few minutes of exchanging details on the computer, they referred me to local customer service, claiming that they would be able to resolve it. They were miserable. After over half an hour of conversation in which they asked me to change all kinds of settings in the bios that are not related at all and asked me if I even know how to install a fingerprint sensor in Windows, they had to seek help from those who really understand. After fifteen minutes of waiting on the line they said that there was nothing to be done about it and that apparently my computer simply does not have the fingerprint sensor. Of course, after that I checked, and I couldn't find any store in my country that sells it without the sensor, so I called them back, and after a moment they put it on hold, and two minutes later they hung up. The next time they did not transfer me to a service representative. The fourth time I called they answered and explained that there was nothing I could do and I had to go and replace the entire keyboard at their service center at my own expense, even though the warranty clearly also includes hardware issues that require replacing components. Just to clarify, the warranty package I have is the proservice. Does anyone have an idea what can be done?

Hi. I've been in the market for a legit finger print sensor to add to my laptop that is not equipped in order to allow windows hello. There are miriads of USB knobs and doodads that does exactly this but none is positively recommended and most stop working after a few weeks from buyer reviews. Does anyone know of one that works? I mainly use windows, so no applewatch login tricks. Thanks.

Hello Guys, i got the old Laptop of my dad a few days ago. It´s a 5th gen Lenovo X1 Carbon (Prod. Nr.: 20HR002MGE if thats usefull). The device has a Synaptics WBDI - SGX Fingerprint reader that used to work just fine until i got it. The Laptop had a freshly installed Windows 10 pro and no I´m unable to set up my Fingerprint. What happens: I go to the settings menu to windows hello fingerprint. I type in my pin and get to the set up process. The LED above the sensor lights up in green. As soon as i touch it, it blinks yellow 3 times and then goes black. A few seconds after, the set up fails and Windows wants me to start it again, obviously with the same issue over and over. What have i done so far: I tried opening the device and reseating the cable I did an in Place Upgrade with the newest Win10 Version, keeping my files so it would just clean up the registery and the windows files. I reset the fingerprint data in the BIOS I ran Lenovos Update Programm, which updated the BIOS to the newest version I uninstalled the Driver from device manager and installed the newest one from Lenovos website (5.2.3540.26) I searched the Group Policies and set biometric authentification on for all users I enabled SGX in the Bios permanently I basically searched through all of google and tried everything that fixed the problem on other devices. I´m just really frustrated and want to get the Sensor to work. If you have some opinions of what I can try to get it to run, i would be very gratefull. With kind regards, Florian

Mastercard has decided to begin testing a system to do away with PINs or requiring a signature for your credit card purchases. Their solution, use a fingerprint. Now this isn't something like NFC verification with the fingerprint scanner on your phone, but actually having a built in fingerprint sensor on the edge of the card to use. According to an article on TechSpot: http://www.techspot.com/news/69028-mastercard-testing-credit-cards-embedded-fingerprint-sensors.html Assuming the current testing in South Africa goes well, they are hoping to roll this out to Europe and Asia later in the year and maybe worldwide before the end of 2017. Some issues I can see, this may not be as secure as they are assuming considering I've seen quite a few videos on fingerprint sensors being overridden. Another issue I can think of is the durability of the sensor. I know that my card usually looks in bad shape after about a year or two in my wallet.

Hey, I have an S7 edge and I use the fingerprint scanner to unlock it, it works very well. But i can register only 4 of them, and i'd like to register, near twice because i would like to put some friend's fingerprint on it. (5 of them and i would like at least 2 fingerprints for me, so that's 7 fingerprint) So, is it possible to do that without using an overly overkill solution (Like rooting). So if there is an app or a manipulation i could do from my PC to change that,, it would be cool. So thanks for helping !

Hello everyone, i have a issue that bothers me, it's that when i try to set up a fingerprint with Windows Hello, y select "Set Up" asks my pin, then i introduce it but then nothing happends, only i hear a "Denied Sound" but not an actual new windows marking me a error or code, i tried reinstalling drivers, even making a fresh install of windows and nothing works, sometimes, that's very rare to happen after some restarts it pass, and works fine, but then i shut down and turn on or restart and i put my fingerprint and then says "Your Pin is required to use fingerprint" even waking from sleep, here is the model of the laptop, i searched in the Event Viewer and here's the error that gives me to set up the fingerprint Error ID 10016 The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160} and APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276} to the user NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE SID (S-1-5-19) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). I accidentally touched my cpu on the gold side of my cpu... it left a smudged of my figure print. My hands were clean but I guess I still hand a little oil from my fingers. Is this bad? Can I clean it? The finger print is on the side that makes contact with the mobo. Please help P.s. the picture doesn't show the finger print but I just wanted everyone to know what side of the cpu I got dirty.

So recently I got the Samsung Galaxy A50, and have had trouble with the Fingerprint reader. I don't know if it has to do with being under the screen, but I've been locked out of my phone 4 times today alone, from too many attempts. I have even rescaned my finger a couple of times and it's the same problem. I would like to know if anyone else is having this issue and if I can fix it. Thank you

Original source from KitGuru. UK-based bank NatWest is trialling new debit cards with built in fingerprint readers, in order to improve payment security. Currently, in the UK, NFC payments can be made with your card under the contactless scheme for payments up to £30, without the need for any further authentication. Adding the fingerprint sensor to the card will allow users to remove that cap, effectively replacing the current chip-and-pin system. NFC payments made using Apple or Google pay are already unrestricted in many major stores. The technology has been developed by Gemalto, and is explained in their video here: All fingerprint data is stored locally on the card and is not transferred to the bank's servers. Hopefully this will improve the security of contactless payments, and I think it could be a step in pushing reluctant adopters to use it more often.

My current phone is the Oppo A57. A feature I really like is that I can use different fingers on the scanner to open different apps automatically whilst locked. For example my left thumb could be Chrome and my right thumb could be messages etc I'm looking at an upgrade soon and was wondering what other phones have this feature? I assume other Oppos' will (wouldn't mind confirmation though) but are there any other phones/brands that do the same? Thanks

Thanks for reading, So me and my friend just figured out this bug and are trying to spread the word. People's security is in danger because of this software/ hardware flaw (This is how we believe it works) If you quickly swipe the fingerprint sensor while opening the camera on the lockscreen you can trip the sensor by thinking its reading a registerd fingerprint because of the illumination for the optical sensor. This causes you to be able to bypass it and get into the phone. https://youtu.be/sxz3FXNobhw

Hks temporarily but after 2-3 hours it has issues.

So I just bought a Dell Precision 7720. I bought a refurbished model, so I couldn't add a fingerprint reader to it at checkout. I initially bought a replacement palmrest with an FIPS fingerprint reader in it thinking it would be an easy swap. I followed Dell's repair manual instructions and I just cannot get the fingerprint reader to show up. I already installed different versions of the ControlVault drivers on Dell's website to no avail. Anybody who has done this before or has any knowledge about this please help!

My Pixel 2 XL phone went from one charge with the scanner working to the next with it malfunctioning. When i would try to use the scanner i would get a message saying " fingerprint hardware not available." This is making me think the scanner isn't bricked since it can tell when my finger is against it but it won't actually read my fingerprint. I then tried deleting my fingerprint data and re-adding but it wont read my finger anymore. Is there any possible fix besides sending it in for repairs.

I want to setup the fingerprint scanner on my Samsung Galaxy S7 for the phone itself, my bank's app & anything else I can. Ever since the day I got this phone though & saw someone else having theirs serviced because it wasn't recognizing their fingerprint, I've been too worried to try it. Is it really that bad or what? Is there a decent chance that some apps such as my bank's won't play well or is it more fool-proof than passwords? On Android Central, they said to grab 2 pics of my thumb going across the censor diagonally. Are they implying I slide it across or just press it down in that way? Also, will only that particular thumb & not any other finger of mine work to unlock the phone? Can a cut or callus inhibit the censors success rate?

I posted this here in general since this is more of a subjective discussion. But if this should be on Phones and Tablets please feel free to transfer. I've been looking to upgrade my Huawei P9 and my current choice would be the new Samsung Galaxy Note8. Personally I prefer phones with fingerprint readers on the side since they are much faster to access when, say, taking them from your pocket. I also rarely use my phone face up on a table so having it on the front does not give me an advantage. Unfortunately, I think the Note8 has such a weird placement on the fingerprint sensor and considering how long the phone is, it might not be easy to access.

Apple on Tuesday was awarded a patent that, if recent rumors are to be believed, might make its way into next year's iPhone model. Specifically, the company now owns IP covering a fingerprint sensor capable of gathering accurate readings through structures like a device screen. According to reports, the 2017 iPhone will do away with the iconic home button to make way for a "full-screen face" comprised of an edge-to-edge OLED display. Instead of the physical Touch ID module seen in contemporary iPhone and iPad devices, Apple is said to be working on a virtual button which presumably carries over the same features and functions. Software commands can be easily replicated with graphical buttons (or through a press on modern 3D Touch screens), but how Apple planned to integrate now-standard Touch ID fingerprint technology into a handset lacking a home button was unclear. Today's patent overcomes design hurdles by introducing capacitive sensing technology that works through gaps in space, thereby allowing a future Touch ID module to sit behind iPhone's display. With common fingerprint sensors, separation between the contact surface where a user places their finger and the capacitive sensing array results in a blurring of the finger's electric field. This can lead to degraded fingerprint image resolutions and decreased recognition accuracy. To alleviate blurring caused by gaps, Apple proposes the use of electrostatic lenses, which are simply described as one or more patterned conductive layers. Depending on their position, relative voltage and shape, however, the layer or layers are able to shape or bend the electric field associated with a user's finger. This bending can in some cases offset the natural dispersion a finger's electric field experiences as it passes through a dielectric layer or space. Being a part-time online trader and a full time business man on the move, I have always been worried about losing my phone or my information falling into the wrong hands. Not only do I have to keep my information secure, but I also need access to my online trading accounts at a moment’s notice. While I have been pretty happy with the conventional security that a 4-digit pin code offers (some phones use lock patterns), there have been times where I lost a good opportunity to make a killing on the commodities market because I was unable to access my accounts fast enough due to the security lock and pin code. I recently read that a person unlocks his devices 110 times a day, I probably unlock my phone at least twice than the average. Recently, I saw a Le 1s advertisement on Flipkart and I learnt that it had fingerprint scanning technology and I saw this as an answer to my prayers. From the little I understand and some quick google reference, I found out that fingerprint identification technology in phones had the answers to all my security concerns. Since no two finger prints are same, the automated authentication biometric of Le 1s allows just its rightful owner to access the phone. Since identification is based on the fingerprint scanner, it also removes the need to remember a password there by providing an accurate and reliable way to unlock the phone. One interesting feature of Le 1s is that the sensor comes with a 6H hardness anti-scratch mirror that allows the finger print to be read without any issues. As I tried to unlock my phone, I found the sensor enables both flash recognition and identification accuracy immediately and effectively as promised and it eliminates the need for PIN codes or patterns to be memorised. Now with quick access to my online trading and banking accounts, I can truly say that I have all information at my fingertips.

I built my first desktop a few months ago, but after 4 years on my HP Laptop with an integrated fingerprint scanner I've become used to logging in that way. I've been looking for a good USB Scanner but haven't found much reliable recent information, If anyone could point me in the direction of some reputable brands or sources of information that would be much appreciated. I am running Windows 10 Pro if that matters. Thanks in advance
