A while ago, I tried out re-skinning Windows 11 21H2 to a WinXP / Win98 theme. After a while, I tried to revert back, and I have everything returned to normal, except for one thing: now, once I switch back to dark mode (i was using light theme for the WinXP reskin), File Explorer has an issue where the folder names in the main window are black on the dark background and are impossible to see. You can see that the drive and folder links along the sidebar are totally unaffected. It's just the files and folders in the main window. There is also the white bar toward the top. This issue seems to be the only thing that isn't switching back to dark theme properly. Everything is just fine when using light theme. Main window works with black text on white, and the sidebar is fine too. Which basically means I am stuck using light mode (do not like). Anyone know how to fix this ? Tried file explorer restarts, PC restarts, have updated through a few Win 11 versions since having this issue, pretty sure I fully uninstalled all the software I was using to reskin so there should be no clashes. Currently on Windows 11 Home 22H2 build 22621.2361. Any tips on getting this back to normal ? I fear i may have to resort to a fresh install of Windows.... thank you!

I'm looking for a mobile app that would have support for both PDF thumbnails and SMB shares, and I've been desperately looking for this for the past day or so. I've also posted the same question in other forums with no answers. Basically, I want the thumbnail function that Windows provides, but for Android. Most file explorers can do it with pictures like JPGs and PNGs, or even videos, but I absolutely cannot find anything that does it for PDFs. The absolute closest I could find are Xodo and ReadEra, which are readers, and they both have file preview, but neither of them seem to be compatible with SMB shares. The easiest SMB share connector I've found is Total Commander, but it doesn't have file preview. Alternately, if I could have some way of mounting an SMB drive as a "folder" that an app can then see and use, it could also work. The tablet used is a cheap RCA Android tablet but this doesn't matter as it should be something applicable to any Android device. As of right now, these are all the apps that I've tried: Foxit (no SMB) Google PDF (no thumbs, no SMB) Files by Google (no thumbs, no SMB) ES File (not the real one apparently) (no thumbs, no SMB) Astro (no thumbs) Adobe Reader (no thumbs, no SMB) Xodo (no SMB) EA Essential File Manager (no thumbs) Simple File Manager (no thumbs, no SMB) Easy inc. PDF Viewer (no thumbs, no SMB) ReadEra (no SMB) Perfect Viewer (no thumbs) Librera (all of them) (no SMB) Office (no thumbs, no SMB) X-Plore File (no thumbs) FX File (no thumbs, paid SMB) eBoox (no SMB) Pocketbook (no SMB) Lit Photo EBook (no SMB) Lithium (no SMB)

Hey folks, when I open my Desktop in File Explorer (it is pinned in my Quick Access), EVERY time it opens the desktop folder it will show one arrangement of icons, the address bar at the top will begin showing a green progress bar loading, and then after 10ish seconds it totally rearranges all the icons displayed in the desktop folder. It appears that the first configuration of files/icons is alphabetical, and then after the green progress bar completes, it goes to the order I have set as the default. ONLY the desktop folder opens this way, no others exhibit this behaviour. I would like it to just open and not have to wait for it to re-sort all the icons to my preferred method (sort by date), and this is beginning to really wear my patience. Can anyone help? I am running Windows 11 Home 64bit version 22H2 Thanks!

Hi everyone, I just recently build a new computer and everything is going great. However, I have some files that I want to get off of my old PC so I put everything back together (I had a 3080 in I replaced that with the original graphics card (a Redon something). Then with the original GPU in I booted up the system and I got no display. So I went thought and tried all the video outs I have and got nothing. When the PC turned on I didn't hear a beep that the system posted. I thought oh well lets take out the C drive and put it in my new PC as just a USB drive and see where that brings me. The old C drive didn't show up in File Explorer. So I went to Disk Management and all that shows up is Disk 0 (my 1TB Games Drive), Disk 1 an 256 GB SSD that is Dynamic and Foreign in Windows (Doesn't show up in File Explorer) Disk 2 my current C drive (a 1TB Sabrient m.2 SSD) Disk 3 (my old C drive) windows says there is No Media I only want to get my Plex Media Server Files off (the video files are on a different drive this is just the server config and watch history, etc.) of it and some Beat Saber maps. Steps I tried, booting into Windows on the old PC (nothing), connect the SSD as a USB drive (nothing), change the boot order to boot from the old C drive first (nothing it just now takes a bit longer to boot into my new Windows install). I used the drive about 2 or 3 days ago. When I switched from my old PC to my new one I tried to boot up my old one. But when I did the GPU fan would spin up really fast then spin down then repeat that for as long as it wants. I had to cut the power and at that point it still wasn't booting. Any thoughts would be great Thank you all in advance. Edit: I also want to get Train Sim World 3 save data off of the old drive (I used Game Save Manager and that data wasn't transferred over)

I was starting to run out of space on one of my drives and I opted to compress it. Unfortunately, about a quarter of the way through compression, Windows Explorer restarts. Afterwards, any attempts to interact with the contents of the drive (i.e., view the files on it) results in Explorer slowing to a crawl ("Working on it...") in what appears to be a really sad attempt at re-indexing(?) the files on the drive. When it does happen to finish up, all thumbnails for images, videos, etc. are entirely gone, in their place the blank file icon. Incidentally, my Recycle Bin icon's "full" icon entirely disappears during these bouts (understandable, considering what Explorer is wholly responsible for). As you would imagine, this makes regular usage incredibly annoying. Assuming this is the root of my problem to begin with: How exactly do I compress/decompress this drive with the assurance that Windows Explorer won't decide to have a normal one and crap the bed? I've sort of hit a brick wall here. Thanks in advance. EDIT: When restarted from Task Manager, Explorer no longer exhibits any of the aforementioned problems. However, it will continue behaving like this shortly after doing so.

I've never really paid attention to file management on Android since I seldom use phones to deal with stuff, but right now when I have to, it's a nightmare looking for good file explorers, good ones require you to pay and you sometimes they have ads that get in the way. Can anyone recommend a good file explorer, paid ones can be okay if it's good. Also, is it possible to have a publicly available folder on my phone?

I was just curious if there was a way to make middle click function as "Open in new Window" like in a web browser but for Windows File Explorer. For example when you have multiple folders with files you need in front of you. It would be neat to be able to just middle click all these folders and have separate instances of file explorer open up for me that I can re-arrange on my monitors. I know it's a function because it's a context menu option. I'm just looking to speed up the process if that makes sense. FYI this is like my first post. Hope I'm in the right spot for this question!

Hello. I just bought a Synology DS220+, I've set it up following some guides but I'm having a stupid little problem I cannot find a solution to. I've entered my NAS from the Windows File Explorer (\\"name of my nas"). At the login Window I've entered my credentials no problem but now I need to log out and log back in with another user. I've set up 4 different users so far including an account for administration only but I'm now stuck with one user only and I cannot find out how to do this simple procedure. Pls help, I'm still a noob at this..

I am struggling to change the icon which appears in file explorer for a "pinned to quick access" folder, in the quick access section it appears with a normal folder icon even after changing it as per the normal method (going into file properties, over to the customize tab, find specific .ico file and finally apply changes). While I find this file (not through quick access but my navigating to it manually) it appears with the icon I applied but that isn't the reason I applied the icon, it isn't showing the changes I made in quick access. Any help?

Hi all, I have this folder on my NAS that I want to copy to my local machine so that I can easily sort the files with a script. But the properties panel reports a "size" and a "size on disk". What's the difference between these and which one should I worry about? 144GB definitely fits on my local drive but 11.4TB definitely doesn't. Thanks a lot!

Apologies in advanced, I'm hoping I'm asking in the right place. Here's what I got. I received a large file with of a couple years worth of time-lapses from my dad for a work thing he is doing. He asked me if I could remove every video that is recorded on either a Sunday or Saturday. Either me or Windows 10 is dumb because using file explorers advanced search tools I could find a way to make this specific kind of search. The video names are just numbered but the date modified are all accurate to the day recorded. I read that you could plug "created:saturday" into the search engine but this turned out to be false in my efforts. Is there any way to get file explore to isolate by day of the week? If there isn't as I suspect, does anyone know of any reliable programs I can use to do this task?

file access How can I resolve "destination folder access denied"?
Desirable6 posted a topic in Windows
Hello, so I've been trying to access an application but the 0x000007b error is showing up. From what I've found I need to copy a bunch of .dll files to Sys32 and Sys64WOW, but "xinput9_1_0" is the only one that can't be copied. Now I've been searching and finally accessed the ADMIN account(well I hope so), but unfortunately, the same thing happened where the access is denied. What can I do?- 1 reply

I need to search through all my files. I was wondering if there is a feature where I can search through them and if I type in a word it will exclude that from coming up. Something like if I type in the word health all the over documents will come up but if health is in the title then it won't. Not sure if I'm conveying it properly, but hopefully you understand. Thanks in advance

Hi everyone! Lately I have been having issues when I would open my file explorer. We have tried many things such as removing the HDD but now I have ran out of options... Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Its very annoying when trying to save stuff or look for files. Added a video to the topic for reference. FYI: Takes about 2.5minutes to load the file explorer. Thanks in advanced. Joey. 2021-04-25 19-19-37.mp4

So I downloaded this mp4 file, and I was trying to cut and paste it another folder but the progress bar's just stuck at 0% and I'm not getting any kind of error pop-ups. 1) File runs just fine. 2) Can copy and paste it anywhere I want. 3) Can't cut and paste it. 4) Can't delete it. Nothing happens if I try to do so. 5) Can't delete using Shift + Delete. 6) I've tried some cmd commands; They don't work. It appears that Windows can't find the file. Here are some Screenshots. 7) I've tried running chkdsk command to see if there are any errors. As far as I think, everything seems to be ok. 8) Can't rename the file either. If try to do so, File Explorer just straight up stops responding and restarts. Here's a Screen Recording of what happens. 2021-05-17 21-59-33.ts 9) Renaming the file through third party utilities such as WinRAR and 7-Zip doesn't work either. The programs just stop working. 10) The same phenomena happen when I try to delete it with WinRAR, 7-Zip and Wise Force Deleter. Please help me get rid of this cursed file ;-;

For some reason my file explorer keeps opening up randomly. This started a few days ago, I've tried searching it up but couldn't find a fix that worked for me. I've disabled autoplay, ran virus checks and did the system file checker scan but nothing seems to work.

Hello, I started having some fun with photography recently and I wanted to organaise my photos in groups. I just clicked "View, Group by, Date" and I called it a day. Recently I noticed it doesn't sort them by specific date (01/02/2001, 28/01/2001, 01/01/2001 - like that assuming it's 01/02/2001 today and date format is dd/mm/yyyy) but instead by bigger chunks (today, last week, last month). How do I make it group by specific dates?

So some days ago i decided that i clear up my storage on my main internal hard drive of my laptop by deleting thumbnail catches, after that is me seeing files not showing the thumbnails properly (like most of the file saved except for some) So I'm curious if there's a way to recover those and not having me to check every file to see a photo I'm sharing is the right one or not.

Whenever I open file explorer to search for a file, my PC internet connection sometimes drops dead until I close file explorer. Other occasions will disconnect internet for 6 secs then turn back on again. This issue only occurs with my PC, other personal devices do not get affected. Pls help
