  1. I bought parts for a PC and decided to put them in the LIAN Li o11 dynamic. I got 6 extra fans as well as a 360mm radiator to populate each fan slot. When i try to put the last fan in at the bottom middle, the case USB (I think) blocks the fan from going in. Is there a way to have both the fan and the USB cable in the PC? If you were wondering i will get the 3080/ti when it comes out, the 580 is just so i can have a working PC while i wait. 2. I'm looking for new intake fans for my PC, and so far the two best choises I've found have been the be quiet pure wings 2 or the noctua redux 140mm. Which one of these would be best? Are there any better options I have missed?
  3. GPU: Nvidia RTX 2070 (NON-super)(yes the only card using a remote 8 pin and small ref PCB, idiot move on my part) Operating System & Version: No issue on windows 10 v 1909, issue on 2020-02 GPU Drivers: clean 442.59 Description of Problem: This issue did not start until a couple of weeks ago which happened to be when windows updated to 2020-02, it could be a coincidence. Before the issue, I could max out the power delivery % and do a +150MHz overclock in msi afterburner and the card would be relatively quiet. Recently, even with no overclocking, fan 1 will max out completely under certain load circumstances to the point where the card is unusable in-game due to noise. It appears to do it when the card is around 80*c but it has never done this before because 80*c has been the sweet spot of noise and performance. I tried to fix the fan curve by using afterburner fan control but fan 1 still does it. Fan 1 even reports the rpm % as what it was before spin up (~66%) even though it is at 5k rpm (what would be 100%). I all around hate this card because of its cooler engineering and the fact that it is the only 20 series ek doesn’t support (aluminum). I am doubtful that it is a hardware issue but the fact that the fan percentage demanded doesn’t correlate to the rpm means that there could be some base (not in os) level protection for overheating or something. But that shouldn’t happen in completely stock form so idk. Any help appreciated Attachments: Look at fan 1 rpm in the screen caps. It solo rpm (not %) maxes for ~10 seconds and goes back down.
  4. is there any difference between molex fans and pwm fans, knowing that molex fan runs at full speed everytime? would there be any issues when using a molex fan despite that it is really loud?
  5. I want to connect Deepcool CF120 fans to the (MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon) or (MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC), and control them with Mystic light light sync, but i dont know which motherboard RGB header to use. i have budget to buy a converter but i don,t know which to buy if necessary. The fan-header is a 5V A-RGB header called ADD_HEADER. How do i connect them? I have A FH10 for the PWM so they want bother me. It is only the A-RGB i have problems with. this is the fan: Deepcool CF120 Motherboard 1: MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon Motherboard 2: MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC
  6. Hey guys I m going to buy a bq dark rock 4 but the fan is covering my ramslot. i cannot put the fan on the ram because my case would be to small. (max height: 165mm; fan onto the ram: 167mm)(nzxt h210). Can i put every fan on the cooler with the metal clips?(a bq pure wing 2 120mm would fit on the ram) is it possible with the pure wing 2? or are there „aircooler only“ fans from bequiet thanks
  7. Hey guys i'm about to build my first pc and the last thing to consider is what the title says, basically if i should orient the cpu cooler towards the back of the case or the top. My cooler is a Noctua NH-U14S and the case is a corsair crystal 460x and the fan configuration i had in mind for the case is 3x intake on the front, 1x out back and 1x out the topback. My first thought was doing it towards the top given that heat rises pretty much but maybe if i point it back towards the I/O vertical to the 3x inntake fans on the front maybe the airflow is better? Any opinions and thoughts are welcome and thanks guys!
  8. Hello everyone. I have encountered a very weird situation with my GPU, Gigabyte's GTX 1050 ti OC. I have had this GPU for about three years and never had problem with it until recently. Let me describe it to you. When the PC is idle and I'm not doing anything, I can hear a vibration (more like grinding sound, you will hear it in the video below) coming from my GPU. This grinding lasts for about minute or two and then stops. This recurs every ten to fifteen minutes. I know that it is coming from my GPU since I stopped the fan with my finger and the grinding sound stopped, but after the fan starts again the grinding sound comes back. It's like it's programmed to do its two minute grinding sound and then go back to normal. Now, the GPU under load doesn't produce this sound, I can hear only the fan spinning and cooling as it's supposed to do. Things I have tried/done: Cleaned dust from the fan, didn't help Installed older NVIDIA drivers, didn't help Downloaded MSI Afterburner and adjusted the fan curve, didn't help. Interestingly, I played with the fan curve and found that if I put 50% and above (min. is 33%), the grinding/vibrating sound doesn't happen. But I don't want it to be at 50% all the time since it's rather loud and it disturbes me. I have googled this but couldn't indentify it. It is not coil whine, dead fan (maybe it is dying) or other things I have seen asked about GPU fans. One thing I did not do is change the thermal paste, since I don't know how and I'm afraid that I will break something. Here's the video in which you can hear this annoying sound: GFYCAT link. Even though the fan blade spins throughout the way, you can hear at the end that there is some kind of switch where regular fan cooling noise kicks in after the grinding comes to halt. Would love to hear your opinions for this. dooda
  9. Well, after owning (let me count) 6 Razer Blades, this one being my 7th, it's been a love hate relationship with all of them, and I don't seem to have learned my lesson. I've now got fan grinding on my less than one year old Advanced edition, 144hz RTX2070 Razer Blade 15 with 1TB 970 EVO PLUS. It's the fan which is situated underneath the left hand while typing. Not sure if that's GPU or CPU fan. (pretty sure this is the model RZ09-02887E92-R3U1) As you might have assumed I've already opened up the device to swap out the SSD, and I've dismantled some of these devices in the past, so I know how to change a fan... (but Razer won't just sell me the darn part) I have no interest in sending this laptop to Razer, I work full time from home and I can't work without my laptop. So my basic question is do any of you know where the best place to source the specific fan would be? I can't seem to find a part number online, but I can remove the fan and give you the number if needed. (First post in LTT, but been subbed since LTT was basically a teen.) Cheers
  10. I recently put together a new pc. For a graphics card I am using an EVGA SC ultra black 2060 super. When I play any games, the fans ramp up to 100% and stay there. I tried using precision x1 to control it. however, it also causes it to go straight to 100% and stay there. The program is also unable to read the fan rpm. What could I do to solve this issue?
  11. Hello, I am looking for a way to monitor my laptop's fan speed, because I want to experiment with aditional cooling. Obviously a piece of software that would let me control fan speed would be even better, but I can work with only monitoring the speed. I've been looking around and I didn't find anything that would work. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 7 A715-72G (i7-8750H, 16GB, 1050Ti). Thanks in advance.
  12. i bought a pre buildt pc(i know i shouldnt) but should i put some more fans in it? the cooling is good but should i? the cooler the better?
  13. Hi guys Just a quick one. Corsair QL120 or LL120, if money is no obstacle? wanna buy 6 new fans, but can't decide
  14. Hi everyone, I'm about to buy my first set of RGB fans. I just need 2 120mm RGB fans that are silent. I'm confused about the connectors. I have the MSI Mortar Max Motherboard and have NZXT H510i case and corsair RAM. So optimally I would like to have 2 fans that can be controlled with mystic light, NZXT CAM software or iCUE. Can I just connect RGB connectors to the RGB header on the motherboard and use mystic light for it? or do the fans need to be compatible with mystic light? Do RGB headers work with RGB LED strip 12v connectors? Any tips or advice? Thanks in advance!
  15. I am about to build a pc and I have chosen the Corsair VS650. Can I plug in ARGB Case fans to this PSU?
  16. Hello LTT community, I'm Krzeszny. I have a PC with a SilentiumPC Supremo M2 550 Watt PSU that requires 500 W. However, the PSU is too loud - 36,6 33 dbA on idle but it hums. It's somewhat quiet but many times louder than anything else in my PC. I was about to buy an Antec HCP-850 but the seller changed his mind so I have a tougher choice now. Out of these used PSU's, how would you order them by longevity and why? I'm not planning on upgrading anything except for exchanging my GTX 970 with a RX 580 when it dies due to a VRM issue. Prices converted to US dollars: 1. Enermax Revolution 87+ 1000W (50 bucks, retailed for 200) - Tier 1 in 2013, modular cables not included 2. Cooler Master V1000 & V850 80 Plus Gold (850W has 1 year of warranty left) (50 bucks for any of them, retailed for ~185) - Tier A 3. Antec EarthWatts Platinum EA-650D (35 bucks, retailed for 110) - Tier C because it has "high overload ripple". I'm never going ot use it above 550 Watts. Its case is scratched all over, seen here. 4. Corsair RM650x (50 bucks, retailed for 120) - Tier A, modular cables not included 5. Be quiet Dark Power Pro 11 550W (P11) (40 bucks, retails for 150), modular cables not included Edit: also 6. Super Flower Golden Green SF-450P14XE (30 bucks) Tier B+ - some reviews mention that it's not very quiet 7. Antec TruePower New 650W (40) - with a modded fan - Dark Pro Wings 8. Be quiet Pure Power 10 400W (40) - B+ 9. Seasonic Gold X-560 SS-560KM Active PFC F3 (50) - Tier A I have no idea why so many people sell them without modular cables but I can always buy the cables if it's worth the hassle. I only need modulars for my SSD, HDD and a fan controller.
  17. Hey, I am new to RGB and all this stuff is really confusing. My motherboard is an MSI B450 Gaming Plus MAX I am planning to buy a Phanteks P400A, the exact model no is PH-EC400ATG_DWT01. The case has 3 included RGB 120mm fans and an rgb controller. I want to add 3 more fans in the back/top and I am looking for ways to which I can connect them all together. I cannot find any info about the rgb controller from the P400A and if it allows more fans to be connected to it. Does anyone with the P400A can tell me more about the fans, their connectors, if they are addresable and if the rgb controller has any more room for additional fans? I was planning to buy 3x Corsair MF121L RGB and some RGB controller (i have no idea what) to control all 6 fans. An alternative was to buy a Lian Li Bora Digital kit that comes with a RGB controller for 6 fans but this one I see has 4pin connectors and I don't know if the case fans are compatible. Any recommendations ? I don't care about syncing to MSI mystic stuff, I just want all 6 fans to be conected toghether so they all have the same color at all times. Thanks in advance, this RGB stuff is really something...
  18. So I have some Motherboard mainboard 4 pin Fan Header questions. The motherboard I'm using is the MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PRO CARBON AC ATX LGA1151 Motherboard and the fans I'll be suing are the Corsair ML140 97 CFM 140 mm Fans which I'll be connecting 2 of to 1 mainboard 4-pin fan header via the https://noctua.at/en/na-syc1 NA-SYC1 Y-Cable. The fans are between 10.8V - 13.2V. I know I should not overload the main board, which I checked the manual and says that for PWM mode (I'll be using) for the mainboard at being a constant +12V.... so I'm wondering, do the mainboard fan headers support more then 1 fan? If they do, because the fans are capable of running above the +12V (I'm assuming) limit, does that mean it'll fry my mainboard fan header or does it simply mean the fans will be stopped at 12V power consumption, like they can't consume more then? OR, might that not even be a concern as I might be able to limit the max volts the fans can run to in the bios on the motherboard for PWM?
  19. I recently built my first PC, and after about a month, my graphics card shorted out and stopped working. After getting an RMA, the replacement should be arriving today, and I want to avoid having the same thing happen again. I am wondering if it could have been an overheating problem? I did notice that my graphics card ran pretty hot (around 85 °C if I'm remembering right). Could it possibly be because of my fan layout? I have attached a picture to this post showing my current fan setup. I have three intake and two exhaust. I am unable to make the fan in the back an intake since it does not have a dust filter, so if I want three intake fans to make positive pressure I have to put an intake in one of the two top positions. Would it be better if I removed the top intake and just had two intake and two exhaust, or even removed both the top fans and only had two intake and one exhaust, or do I already have the best setup in place? Ideally, I want whatever change I make to provide more airflow to my GPU. I'm new to PC building, so I don't know what's best to go with. I would appreciate any advice.
  20. I've been searching around for anyone who seems to have taken apart the new(ish) Corsair ML Series Fans. I was unable to find any definitive answers on how to do it exactly, so I took the initiative and tried it myself. I was partially successful in the fact that I was able to disassemble it, however in putting it back together, it doesn't spin as well as it should and when I plugged it into one of my motherboards to test how it worked, it didn't spin at all. I've laid out the steps that I did to disassemble the fan's below in case anyone wants to re-attempt it and try to fix where I went wrong or just for anyone who is curious. I figured since I couldn't find anyone who had done it, I would put it out there so others could find it. I have attached pictures as my description might not be clear enough by itself. The first thing that I did was remove the stickers from the front and the back. This didn't really give me any ideas on how to continue, so I probed around the holes on the back of the fan hoping to figure out how it was fastened in the frame. I noticed a white tab inside one of the openings, so I toyed around with it until it finally broke off. Next, I turned my attention to the area where the cable was plugged into and noticed a smaller white tab underneath the frame in this location as well. I couldn't quite reach it with any of the tools that I had around me. Not making any progress, I grudgingly broke out my Dremel to see if I could carefully remove some of the back frame to open up the back of the fan to try and get a better angle or open up something new for me to fiddle with. Unfortunately, I got a little carried away and ended up removing the fan from the case entirely. However, the PCB was still connected and so was a small part of the frame. So I continued to cut away the frame piece until I was able to remove the PCB. It turns out that there are four white tabs located around the center of the fan to hold in the PCB. I then started shaving down the center of the frame located on the back of the fan. I was able to remove the "back plate" of the fan frame and saw the usual pin on the back of the fan. Realizing that this was what I was looking for, I began to attempt to remove the fan from the coil. I eventually ended up using a small socket (it was included in my 64 Bit Driver iFixit kit) that was able to fit over the pin and into the hole. I used a hammer to tap the socket further onto the pin. I'm not sure what sort of fastener holds the fan onto the coil (or vice versa), but it took my quite a while to get to the point where I could pull the fan off just like any other SP or AP Corsair fan. Now at this point, the fan is basically useless except to see how it was put together. So I used all the knowledge that I gained with this fan and started on a second, hoping to disassemble it without completely destroying it. The first thing that I did with this second fan was try and drill out the center of the back to gain access to the fan pin. Drilling it out was easy, but there was lots of debris that was still attached to the walls of the drill hole, so I had to scrape this off to get a clean look at the pin. Then I was able to hammer in the socket onto the pin and pull the fan off as stated above. This time, there was only a small hole in the back of the fan that is easily covered up if someone wanted to put a sticker over it. (ignore the other smaller holes in the picture. They were from an earlier experiment when I thought that the white tabs were the key to disassembly.) Now that I had gotten the fan off of the frame with little damage actually done, I was curious to see if I could re-assemble it to fully functional. I popped the fan back into the frame, and it stayed. However, the fan did not spin as loosely as it had before. I plugged it into one of my motherboards and tried to test it out, but it didn't spin at all. I'm thinking that maybe during my attempts to free the fan from the case, I messed up the PCB and killed the fan, but I'm not sure. So there it is. How to disassemble the Corsair ML Series Fans. Maybe somebody can use this and expand upon it and figure out where I went wrong to get the fan to work at the end of all of this.
  21. Hey guys, I'm new here. I'm trying to clean my Palit GTX 1060 6gb dual fan but I don't know how to disassemble it. Can someone provide me some intruction on how to disassemble my card? And also, Where can I find a fan replacement for the card?
  22. The reason why I post in general discussion is because my issue related to so many topic that I have no idea where to put it in. I have a pretty much commercial 15 inch laptop ASUS Vivobook : X510UQ-BR748T. Basically it has 4c/8t i5-8250U with a 940MX dGPU, one HDD, one M2. SSD and 8GB RAM (2 sticks). Not a beast but still come in strong enough for my demand. Recently, I cleaned the laptop myself and gave it a underclock treatment. I mainly use 3 software: ThrottleStop, Cinebend R20 and Heaven to support the benchmarking and underclocking. I only bother the CPU performance in R20 because when I hit the system hard (taxing both CPU and GPU), it will throttle no matter what I do because of the one-fan cooling system. The multi-core score (before cleaning, without underclocking) in R20 is ~560. Thermal throttled as many as it can. All-core turbo max was about 1.4 GHz. I clean it, underclock to -95mV (still stable), give it some Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, the multi-core score is now ~1300. The ambient temperature was 26C at that time, early in the morning when the temperature is still low. The system run smoothly, hit a all-core turbo at 2.7 Ghz, with the temperature of 93C. Sometimes it reach 96C but not for long. With the score above the average score of i5 8250U, I call it a success. Now I want it to run cooler than this by having more airflow. I have 2 idea: 1. Swap the current fan for a better compatible fan (a very hard task). 2. Duct-tape 2 desktop fans, one blow cool air in and the other suck the hot air out. And those are my question: 1) Is there any way to change the default fan to something else that similar but perform better? Like to stick a ZenBook fan into it. 2) Do you think my second idea is suitable in this case? If not what I may need to do? 3) Tell me your idea if you have one. Extra information: the ambient temperature usually in the range of mid to high 30s (35C to 40C). I don't use the air conditioner. Thanks you in advance.
  23. I need to know how many case fans (or fans total) can be supported by the MSI MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC ATX LGA1151 Motherboard, and if the total fan headers include the CPU Noctua NH-U12A 60.09 CFM CPU Cooler fans. I plan to use the Corsair ML140 97 CFM 140 mm Fans which come in pairs per order/purchase. I am not water-cooling the build it'll be used with. The case I'm using is the Fractal Design Meshify S2 ATX Mid Tower Case which claims to support 9 fans. Ideally, I'd like to support 1 back case fan, 3 top case fans and 3 front case fans, less ideally perhaps 1 back case fan, 2/3 top case fans, and 2/3 front case fans. Just a bit of overview, I have no ethernet wall plug in my room thus must use an AC wifi motherboard, hence the MSI above. I plan not to have to upgrade for a few years, hence I want the cooling to be as many fans as possible for hopefully longevity sake. Not to mention dust is a concern in my room so I figure more fans will help.
  24. Yes, i know six fans might sound like a lot, but i wanted to have some good airflow in my case. In total, i will have 6 fans: 4 case fans (2 Noctua NF-P14s redux 1200, and 2 Fractal Design Dynamic x2 GP-12) [all of these 4 fans are 3-pin] 2CPU fans (Noctua NF a15 PWM) The total number of fan headers in my motherboard (X570 AORUS ELITE) is 4: 2 SYS_FAN headers, 1 CPU_FAN header and 1 PUMP header I've read online that generally the maximum amperage spread across all of the headers must be below 1 amp or it could damamge the board. The max. input current of every one of the 4 noctua fans is 0.08 amp, while the two FD fans have a 0,18 amp max input current each, so after doing the math, they should all add up to 0,68 amps, so it should be fine right?? I was planning on using Y-splitters to connect the 6 fans to 3 of the headers, leaving out the PUMP header; is this safe? Does having 2 fans connected to a single header make them go at half the speed? P.S. IF POSSIBLE, i would like NOT to purchase a fan controller
  25. I just bought h500 case and a new pc and this clicking noise comes from the psu bothers me, but strangely noise stops when i open a game. How can i stop it, or is it normal? edit: By the way i recorded with my phone and it was really close to the psu so it is higher and more exaggerated than what i hear https://1drv.ms/u/s!AiYeO7iGEcbqiRtj3Ypl4_FOj8KL?e=wL7A8p
