  1. Hi there, I'm planning out a build, and have included multiple rgb fans. The build will contain 10 fans of which 7 are rgb and throughout the case, and 3 are non-rgb and are placed on the AIO. These final 3 will be daisy-chained and plugged into the AIO header on my motherboard, so those don't require a controller. The other fans, on the other hand, do. I want to both PWM and RGB control them (using iCUE), and that appears to be a pain if you plan on using more than 6 fans. However, I think I've come up with a working solution, and I wanted to dubblecheck whether this would work. Moreover, I have a secondary solution which would be even simpler (and cheaper), which I wanted to check as well. My case, a Corsair 5000X, comes with a PWM controller pre-installed, and when purchasing a 3-pack of the fans I want (Corsair SP120 Elite), I get a Corsair Lighting Node Core (NoCo). These added up have the capacity for 6 fans, which isn't enough. So, what I thought of doing was buying a Corsair Commander Core XT (CoCo). I would them plug 5 fans into the CoCo and the other 2 in the NoCo and the PWM Hub, while plugging these last 2 into the CoCo. This way, I think I should get things to work. The secondary solution (which I thought might be too simple) is to buy a splitter for the two cables coming from a fan, and that way put 2 fans on a single header of the NoCo and PWM Controller. However, I do not know whether that would work, nor whether those kinds of cables even exist in the first place. Any input regarding this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  2. so a couple of days ago i got a lian li O11 dynamic evo case and to fill out all the fan mounts i got two packs of the corsair QL fans https://www.newegg.com/corsair-co-9050098-ww-case-fan/p/N82E16835181186?Item=N82E16835181186 https://www.newegg.com/p/2AM-02AA-002H1?Item=9SIBEYDJ5K5195 i took my parts out of my old case and put them all in the O11 but when i turned everything on one of the fans on my aio ( https://www.newegg.com/corsair-liquid-cooling-system-icue-h150i-elite-capellix/p/N82E16835181203 ) doesnt spin. along with the top 3 fans and all the fans on my aio dont light up. now with the aio i got the a fan/rgb controller up and with the fans i got a rgb hub im using both so im not sure if thats problem just kinda looking for any insight and help from proeple who know more. this is the first time i dove into the rgb fan space
  3. So I have a Gigabyte HD3P mobo with 2 PWM fan headers, 3 including the cpu fan, and one 3-pin fan header. I have one 120mm cpu fan, two 120mm 3-pin fans, two 140mm PWM Noctua fans, and two 120mm PWM noctua fans. cus I don't have enough headers on my mobo I'm using two fan splitters to connect more than one to a header, the problem being that the splitters also splits the voltage from the mobo between the fans. which would be fine more or less, as the end intended result is silent fans, but the voltage the fans receive is enough to run the fans, but not start them. So I have to go into the bios, set the fans for full speed, restart, go into bios again, and then set the fans back at the speed I want them to run at after they've gotten enough momentum to keep them running. needless to say this is pretty tedious and time consuming. My question is what fan splitter/hub/controller should I get to keep all the fans powered like they should be while still having them run off the bios setting (and for that matter, what is the the definitive difference between the 3) also, would this work? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IF6R4C8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3GO5VFCNOM5I7
  4. so i recently saw one of these things in a site of a local vendor and i have not used one or seen one personally to see what use they have in real life. isnt the controlling of fan speed done by the motherboard? you can even set the speed using software right? so why would a person invest on one of these fan controllers? these things are available at various prices too. u can find one on ebay for low as $8 and prices can go upto around $70 or even more! are these things really worth it or are they just there for show? what do u think
  5. This may be a noob question, but it has stumped me so I'm hoping you all can help me figure it out. A few years ago I bought a Rosewill Stealth ATX Mid Tower as part of my first real build. It, among other things, features 2 "fan controllers" at the top. They are these sliders with high, medium, and low. They appear to connect to the rest of the fans via both molex connectors and 3 pins. I really wasn't sure how to integrate them into my network of fans when I first did my build, so I just left them disconnected and power my fans directly from either the motherboard or the power supply. They very quietly and my temps remained low. Fast forward to today, where I have now bought 2 Rosewill 120mm RFA case fans (red of course). My main goal was to increase airflow and add more Red LEDs. So I connected (using the included 3pin to molex adapters) them to the same chain that was powering the front 2 fans. Everything powered on well, but my new fans are spinning really fast, so they are noticeably loud (not launch day ps4 loud, but, oh my computer actually makes sound loud). Therefore, I want to set them up with the fan controllers, and lower the speed, since right now I really don't need them blowing exhaust 3 small freedom units above the case. Please let me know if anyone has any experience with these fans, this case, or similarly designed fan controllers in general, and if you all have any suggestions. Thanks! UPDATE: Success! I switched up my internal wiring so that the molex connectors from the PSU now feed the controllers, and the 3pin connectors (2 for each controller) go to my sets of fans. Now, I can separately control the speeds of my top fans and my front fans. The others are connected directly to the motherboard. Thanks for the help!
  6. I've built my own computer in the past 6 months, and it runs great! It's got good stability, performance, and temperatures; the only problem being it can get PRETTY loud when I start the computer up. So I figured the best solution would be to buy new fans to cool the pc, as the two fans that came with the case (Corsair Carbide Spec 2) are 3 pin fans, and as I understand it can't be controlled to run at less than full blast. Initially I bought a fan y splitter so that I could try and connect the two 3-pin fans I have with my one PWM fan that came with the hyper 212 EVO that I'm using, which seems to have a varying level of success. The fans DO slow down when they're connected to the cpu fan header and the cpu is not under load; HOWEVER, the fans are still quite loud and both before and after using the fan splitter none of the fans will show up in SpeedFan. I haven't the faintest idea if this is because of the specific fans I have, because of the motherboard of have, or because of a flaw in SpeedFan itself. Moving on from there I've been looking at pc fans to buy and have considered buying corsair's led fans or quiet edition fans (depends on which is quieter I guess), both because I've heard good things about them, I've heard tell that they're quiet, and because it matches my build colors (black and red). The problem there is that the only corsair fans that are PWM are corsair's sp120 High performance fans, which is both louder than I'd like the fans to be, and un-optimized for usage. So my final questions are as follows: 1- Can I use a type of fan splitter, fan hub, or fan controller to control 3-pin fans? 2- Can said fans then show up in SpeedFan so I can control them with software and set a fan curve, this would be best case scenario 3- Would the Corsair led or quiet edition fans be the best choice, and which of the two would be quieter? 4- If the fans couldn't be fan controlled would they be silent enough to run at full blast to not matter either way? 5- If these fans aren't the best choice, what would be the best choice? I want very good cooling for my case, with sound being very important as well, but I'd prefer not to spend 25-50 dollars on one pc fan (I will if I really have to though) The Carbide SPEC-2 can fit either two 140mm or two 120mm fans in the front, two 120mm on top, one 120mm in the back, and one 120mm fan in the bottom; in addition to this, I can also fit one more fan on the hyper 212 EVO heatsink, so I figure I might as well add another fan for that All in all that would be 8 fans in total, two SP 140mms (or 120s), four AF 120mms, and two SP 120mms (for heatsink) Of those I have two stock corsair 3-pin AF 120mms, and the SP 120 with the 212 Addition pc junk in the system: Gigabyte Z170 HD3P mobo Intel Core i7 6700k cpu msi 1070 gaming gpu EVGA 80+ gold 750 semi-modular psu ASUS 4x4 802.11AC Wireless-AC3100 PCIe Adapter (PCE-AC88) white label 1tb HDD PNY 480gb SSD
  7. The Scenario: I am building a personal NAS but the hardware use is pre-production, one of the quirks is that the fans run at full speed and the thermal driver was never written so the temps never get reported. I am wondering if something like this is actually useful: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/B7x3j6aG This has temp probes, so I'm wondering how effective is the temp readout from probes attached to the heatsink and should I keep a decent headroom. Thanks!
  8. Hi guys Just to scratch at your brains a bit. Before I explain the situation I'll just give a breakdown of my pc specs i9 9900k (not overclocked) 32gb 2666 hyperx fury (no rgb) Asus rog strix b360-F gaming MoBo Nvidia RTX 2070 Asus duel fan Gamedias 280mm AiO liquid cooler 4 Rgb Gamedias 120mm fans 500gb Wd blue 3d nand ssd Msi Msi gungnir 100p case My configuration at the time is 120mm fans bringing air from the top down onto my cpu and top of my gpu 1 at the back also pulling in over the cpu and 2 140mm on top of my radiator pushing air through the front out of the case. Now for the problem. Since I'm in south Africa it is generally very warm. But my pc can really cook an egg when I want to kick up a game that is very demanding. Like battlefield 5 on ultra with RTX on. My Temps in C can reach 80. What I started to think was my fans are not doing a good job not because of configuration as I've tried it in 4 different configurations. But rather my controller for the fans. The Gamedias set comes with a controller that's responsible for the Rgb and fan speeds. But I have 4 120mm fans and 2 140mm on a single controller being powered by a single sata power connector. Now I'm no guru but I've build pcs before and thinking back especially lower end stuff. Each can was normally connected to a molex by itself or to the motherboards fan ports. So I just wanted to ask if you could help me out to see if I should buy new fans that use the own connecter and perform better or if it's the same with the controller or without it. Thanks guys look forward to hearing from you
  9. I am looking to control the speed of my case fans when my PC is idling, however I use a variety of different operating systems for various reasons so software support and configuration of a software controlled fan controller across all of them would be difficult if not impossible. I have seen Linus mention the mCubed tBalancer that he used to use in his personal rig, however I cannot seem to source one in the UK. I also looked at the AquaComputer powerAdjust 3 however it seemed unclear as to whether it is software controlled or not. Ideally, I am looking for something that I can configure and forget to manage my PCs fans based on temperature sensors placed inside the case, any suggestions would be welcome.
  10. Hey guys! This is my first post on the forums and I am in need of some slight help. Before I get started, I figure people will ask, so for helping purposes, here is my build: Core i5-4690k (CPU) AsRock H97M PRO4 (MOBO) ASUS R9 280X (GPU) Corsair CX600 (PSU) 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 (RAM) So I am currently using the stock fans that came with my Corsair Carbide Spec-02 case, and have been for about 6 months and often times when I am playing Counter Strike, my screen turns to brown/yellow lines and I need to restart my computer. This also happened within minutes of playing H1Z1 for the first two times, and so I figure that this is my graphics card crashing from overheating. (still not even sure why this happens) I figured that the best bet was to take out the 2 stock fans and put in 3 Corsair AF120 Red LED fans (one at the front and 2 in top rear,) and 1 Corsair SP120 Red LED fan (in the front of my case to push air past the hard drive cage.) Finally, I would hook all these up to an NZXT Sentry 3 Fan Controller. So, here are my questions..... 1) Why does my screen do this; am I right about the graphics card overheating because of too little airflow in my case? 2) If so, are these fans fine to get for my case? 3) Do you have any recommendations for fan controllers besides the Sentry 3? (I do care about looks) I will most likely be ordering these parts tonight or tomorrow (May 27/28) so quick answers would be very helpful. Thank you so much in advance guys
  11. Hello, and thanks for reading this already! Can just connect a case fan only to the fan controller, or do they always require power from the motherboard? Thanks in advance!
  12. Hello, and thanks for reading this already! I'm looking for a fan controller like the Sentry Mix 2, with a slider (cause I like that ), and preferably led lights . Why do I not take this one? I do need the 12V+ per fan, but the 2+ fans (I'm gonna have 4 fans), will look ridiculous . So any alternatives you like? Thanks in advance!
  13. Hello, and thanks for reading this already! I'm searching for an fan controller, which... Can handle 12V fans. Has a temperature support. Preferably a red interface (red themed build FTW). I'm gonna have the Air 540, which has vertical 5.25" bays. So I prefer internal, external fan controllers etc. Any answer is appreciated! Thanks in advance!
  14. Would love to see some more reviews of good fan controllers. I'm looking to buy one, and I am leaning towards the NZXT Sentry 3.
  15. So I'm planning to build a gaming computer, and I was wondering what do I do for fan control. I say this because my cooler, motherboard, and case all have their own fan controller so where is the best place to plug them in. here is my build. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xBBrwP Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated, Jared
  16. So basically I have 4 fans but the Fractal Design Define R4 I just bought as a new case has a fan controller for 3 fans would it be wise to use a fan splitter on the fan controller?
  17. I just got 2 delta fans and they are excellent 150 cfm with a static pressure of 12.7 mmh2o at 4000 rpm and to make it even better they are 120mm x 25mm unlike most deltas which are 38mm thick so they fit any where a normal 120mm fan does and my fan controller supports 25w per channel and these fans are 17w so I can use my fan controller the only problem is my controller can only take them down to 50% to like 2000 rpm - 2200 rpm which isn't too bad but i'd like to lower them a bit more when I don't need the extra cooling I have a cheesy rosewill fan controller that will turn them down to like 1000 rpm and not only are they super quiet (no bearing noise at all) but they still move a lot of air the problem is they rosewill pci slot fan controller is too weak and start over heating in minutes so I was looking for a way to further slow them down with having to plug and unplug an in line resistors everytime maybe some kind of variable resistor or another fan controller that I can mount in a pci slot or I can mod to put somewhere else in my case cause I have used all my 5.25 bays have any ideas or suggestions or have tried this before btw I found this inline controller heard anything about it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811995073
  18. Need help to decide what component to monitor with my thermal probes and how to do it! I own a Aquaero 5 LT and i have eight NTC thermistor cables as sensors I currently decided to monitor VRM, Chipset, Air intake, Air exhaust, Case ambient, PCIe slot and DRAM. There is one more sensor i have left and i don't know what to monitor with it. Any suggestions? Second problem is i don't know what method i should use to secure the thermal probe and what position to place it in. For VRM and Chipset, should i place it on the heatsink or at the backside? Which method would give me the most accurate temperature?
