  1. For a very long time I was planning on designing my own fan controller, and I'm finally doing it. I want to release the design as open-source/open-hardware so anyone could use it and benefit from it. Now with that said, I want this project to be driven by the community. This means that my goal for this project is to design something will be: Helpful / Useful - you can use it to solve a problem, or improve the quality / reliability Open - Design must be fully transparent and well documented. This way new features and integrations can be easily implemented. Accessible - Anyone should be able to order parts or kits and put them together without the need for special or expensive equipment. Affordable - Components are relatively inexpensive and/or can be excluded if they are not necessary for the build (ie. Don't need buzzer, OLED, RGB controller etc) Features that I have in mind for now are: Programmable FAN profiles (i.e. when temperature reaches X, set fan 1/2/3/4/all to Y%, when X app is running turn all fans to max or set fans to 20% during night time but only if temperature is below 40C and so on) Individual FAN speed control Support for 3-pin and 4-pin fans Temperature sensors (you can place them anywhere and use them as triggers when programming) Current sense (sens how much current each fan is drawing. Could be useful to detect fan stall, broken fan or even when over time there is a lot of dust on the blades) RPM sense (additional data point that over-time, combined with other parameters, could give more information about fan health and efficiency) Programmable and Open-Source (end user must be able to easily reprogram/update the device over USB) Buzzer (audio feedback. Can be used if fan failure, stall, high temperature or other problem is detected. Also user must be able to turn this feature on/off) Parts and components must be easily available and reasonable (end user should be able to order individual parts and assemble the thing as they see fit for their case/mod. No unicorn horns or pixie dust allowed. ) OLED support (you can connect OLED to display any information on the screen) RGB controller (you can connect RGB strip to control it) WS2812B controller (you can connect WS2812b strip, which is basically RGB strip but individually addressable) Robust and reliable (goes without saying but this has to be robust and reliable solution) These are some of the basic features that I would like to develop. This is just a draft from my head, but I think you get the idea of where I'm going, and I would really appreciate your input and feedback. Also if this is something that you are passionate about too or want to contribute in any way shape or form, let's collaborate. And as a final note, a word about me; I'm an electronics engineer/consultant with years of experience. In my free time I love to work on fun and interesting projects and share them with the community. I absolutely love sharing my projects (at the least ones that I'm allowed to) and find this to be very satisfying because I feel like I'm contributing back to the community. And most importantly I'm someone who is really passionate about tech, computers, engineering and open-source / open-hardware community. [Mods] I hope this message is appropriate and not in conflict with any forum rules. If there is a better place for this post, please move it as you best see fit. I would really like to get the LTT community involved in this project and guiding it with their feedback, suggestions and collaboration.

    ARGB Fans

I was searching on how to connect fans in a NZXT H9 Flow (max. 10x120 mm fans), but I am still not sure if my conclusions are correct. Also I understand that I do not need a fan controller. Let's assume that I have such parts: case: NZXT H9 Flow motherboard: ASRock B760 Pro RS cpu cooler: MSI MPG CORELIQUID K360 V2 7 fans: Stella HP ARGB 120 PWM or Stella HP ARGB 120 I would connect stella hp argb 120 pwm/dc fans in a daisy chain to one of the argb controllers (one fan is 0.4A, port will work up to 3A) and to 4 pin chassis port for power (one fan is 0.1A, port will work up to 2A) and I will see 7 fans in signalRGB. About this particular AIO - there is a tutorial to follow MSI tutorial, but from what I understand it is completely separate from those daisy chained fans. I will see 3 separate fans in signalRGB even though a splitter will be used. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  3. I have a prebuilt cyber power PC (it says et9300-1266 on the back if thats useful) I knocked it over like a dumbass and now my fans all stopped spinning (not including the cpu fan) I’m assuming that since they all stopped at once the fan controller either broke or unplugged? I could use some help finding where it is and whatI should unplug and replug photos attached
  4. So I decided to plug in an old 80mm fan with LEDs to my NZXT Sentry 3 to test out the lights and I noticed that when I lowered the fan speed, the lights would dim. The fan I tested with: The 3 pin connector of the fan controller (its wide enough for a 4 pin but only has 3 physical pins) Currently I have two 140mm fans that I would like to switch out for Corsair 140 LED fans which would be hooked up the fan controller because my motherboard doesn't have enough fan headers. Is there any way to prevent the LEDs on the fans from dimming when I lower the speed? Sorry this is my first post and if there is anything wrong with where I posted and the format, just tell me and I'll fix it
  5. I'm rather confused about NZXT's fan controllers, They have there hub, The HUE+, and few others. I'm just looking for the one that will allow me to control my aio aer RGB fans.
  6. Hi Everyone! I would like some help/suggestion regarding a problem i have with a GTX 1070 INNO3d ichill x4. In other times it would have been gently escorted to the garbage can, but given the current times, this GTX 1070 is gold... I recently purchased from a friend a GTX 1070 INNO3d ichill x4, that has a problem with the fan speed. The fans are spinning at max speed and there’s no way to control them trough MSI afterburner. All the software i tried (argus, msi afterburner, the INNO3d own software), are unable to control the fans, and and show a rotation speed of 1500RPM and a temperature of 23° while the indicated speed percentage is 0%. My deduction is that the fan controller is broken so it can no longer handle the fans, but I can't be sure of that. The alternatives to not throw away the card are A) use an old Kraken G12 + a cheap aio (unfortunately all the ones I have at the moment don't seem to be compatible: liquid freezer 240mm, liquid freezer 2 120mm) B) buy a 4 pin adapter for the fans and control them through the motherboard. This last alternative is certainly the cheapest and perhaps the most sensible considering the age of the board. My question is: which cable is needed to connect the fans to the motherboard. The board seems to use a 4-pin mini cable. How do I control the fan speed from the motherboard without having a GPU temperature reference? Do you have other suggestions?
  7. Hello! I'm planning to re-use an older case for my little brothers first PC (most of the parts will be a hand-downs from me), and I'm having some trouble figuring out if I will be able to connect the new fans to the old fan controller. I'm thinking of installing four of these fairly cheap fans in place of the old ones. This is the motherboard. The old fans (which I think are these) had RGB, and connected to a fan controller called DF-906 (couldn't find any information about this fan controller after googling it). The description of the fan connector in the manual states the following: "Fan connector port: (PH2.0) 6P, the interface is parallel, 6 - way fan lighting synchronization, line sequence: FAN / 12V / FGND / LGND / DATA / +5V" The DeepCool fans are rated for 12V, so if I plug them into the upper 3pin part of the 6pin, they should work, if I'm not mistaken. I don't care much about the RGB or controlling the speed, the main objective it to get them to work. If there are any better/more simple ways to plug all 4 case fans in, do let me know. Thank you for your time! Edit: I decided to just connect the exhaust fan to the PSU using the included Molex connector, in stead of frying my fans or something else. It works well, the other fans are connected to the motherboard and also work well.
  8. Hey everyone. I recently purchased all the parts that I need for a custom water loop. Most of them already arrived (just waiting for the fittings and tubes), but my water block came with the pleasant surprise of a bonus fan controller (which was actually great, because all my fans came with a 6 pin connector that I never saw before in my life instead of the 3 pin argb connector + standard fan connector, so I won't need to get an adapter/hub). But this fan controller has a 2 pin connector that I don't know exactly what is for, and I didn't find any user guide. I saw that there are some fittings with temperature sensors that have a 2 pin cable, but after talking with a seller (which didn't seem like someone who knows a lot about the matter), they said that it wouldn't work with that fan controller, because the controller doesn't have any connection with the motherboard (well, it has an argb header for the motherboard, but he said that it wouldn't work anyway). The 2 pin connector is named "manual control", and the controller also has a power input (molex) and that argb connector that I mentioned before (3 pin connector to the motherboard). What device/cable should I be connecting to that 2 pin slot?
  9. I have been trying to find a solution for about 4 hours. I am slowly going insane. Alright. This is what I have: - NZXT H510 Elite with 1x RGB LED Stripe - 4x NZXT Aer2 RGB Fans - 2x NZXT normal Fans (in a push/pull configuration with 2x of the Aer2 RGB Fans) - 2x NZXT Underglow LED Stripes - NZXT Kraken X63 The case has an RGB & Fan Controller (Smart Device v2) with 3x Fan Ports and 2x LED Ports. This is how I daisy-chained the 4x RGB Fans (IN/OUT are RGB Ports on the fans by the way): Smart Device v2 1/2 LED Port -> Rear Fan IN Rear Fan OUT -> Top Fan IN Top Fan OUT -> Front Top Fan IN Front Top Fan OUT -> Front Bottom Fan IN Front Bottom Fan OUT = empty/not populated https://imgur.com/a/HliYaCA So the LED for these 4 Fans should now work. I now have 4x Power Cables from the 4x RGB Fans. The Smart Device v2 has only 3x Fan Ports, but it also has a splitter. This splitter has 1x 4-pin Port and 2x 3-pin port. https://imgur.com/a/DjrkwOE What do I do here?! -------- The other normal Fans have only 1x 4-pin Cable each. This means that I can use the splitter shown above. But here's the important question: Do I connect one Fan to 4-pin Port and the other one to 3-pin Port or do I connect both of the Fans to the two 3-pin Ports of the Splitter?! Note: In the case manual says: "The first fan connector with 4 pins on the fan splitter will be the primary Fan. Do not mix PWM or 3-pin Fans." So I guess I can go with one Fan in 4-pin Port and the other Fan in 3-pin port, since none of the two Fans is a 3-pin Fan. -------- This is how I daisy chained the LED Stripes: Underglow LED Stripe -> with a weird 4-pin cable that comes out of pre-installed LED Stripe of the case. https://imgur.com/a/MXPPrUV Is this even the correct connection? The second cable that comes out of the pre-installed LED Stripe of the case went into 2/2 LED Port of the Smart Device v2. -------- The NZXT Kraken x63. 1st Cable: I connected its Fan cable in AIO_PUMP on the motherboard (ASUS B550 Gaming F), just like the manual said. Will the Kraken be able to control the 2x RGB Fans and the 2x normal Fans (all 4 mounted on radiator) that are connected into two separated channels on the Smart Device v2? https://imgur.com/a/O54Bn3g 2nd Cable: The RGB Cable. https://imgur.com/a/PRpmsKc Where does this go? I know I can let it be, but I would like to added either in the daisy-chain of the 4x Aer2 RGB Fans or the daisy-chain of the RGB LED Stripes.
  10. I have been trying to find a solution for about 4 hours. I am slowly going insane. Alright. -------- This is how I daisy chained the LED Strips: Underglow LED Strip -> with a weird 4-pin cable that comes out of pre-installed LED Strip of the case. https://imgur.com/a/MXPPrUV Is this even the correct connection? Because the Underglow doesn't turn on. The second cable that comes out of the pre-installed LED Strip of the case went into 2/2 LED Port of the Smart Device v2. I know I can let it be, but I would like to added either in the daisy-chain of the 4x Aer2 RGB Fans or the daisy-chain of the RGB LED Strips.
  11. So, I moved my 3950x build (32 gb 3200 MT/s ram, GB Aorus x570 pro wifi, and 2070 super) from my old case to a Lancool II mesh performance edition. The case has a fan controller built in that allows LOW-MED-HIGH-Auto controls. I've noticed that when booting with it in Auto mode the machine would hang. Through some troubleshooting I found that the culprit was a WD 500 GB SSD; which in retrospect was connected to the same power source along with another SSD. I redid the wiring, and replaced the SATA cable thinking maybe that was at fault... it didnt work. I then proceeded to take the SSD out and put it into an external enclosure... it worked again. When I put it back into the system, it hung again. When booting with the controller at low, the SSD works fine. I decided to remove some of the fans from the controller in case this was a power draw issue, and lo and behold everything works fine. Has anyone experienced similar issues with SSDs not functioning well due to power draw of devices on the same rail? I do have a Corsair RM750x
  12. So I've been using argus monitor but it failed on me today, causing my game to crash and saying I need to buy a license. Any free softwares out there that are similar and aren't dead like speedfan?

  14. This is my “first” build. I bough a ASUS motherboard that comes with a ROG Fan controller/hub, there’s also the Lian Li AL120 hub, along with universal fan hub in the Evolv X case. I am not sure which to use or to either connect in series. The goal is to use minimum software to control the fans along with my water pump. The case, fans, and mother board all have integrated D/ARGB. I would like to use the ASUS ARGB software. The mother board has ARGB installed on the waterblock. Using AL 120 also There will only be (3) fan, (1) pump and ARGB connections. (5) total ARGB connections with the case. The pump can connect directly to MoBo. I would like to use the case hub to connect to the MoBo. Thoughts on the best configuration to control both the fans and ARGB?
  15. Hi, this is my first time building pc and i did the following I have a lian li controller that controls fans and it needs to be hooked to 2 SATA power supplies and 1 usb header to work. I hooked up fans to this connector, and just plugged in the 15pin SATA power supplies. And then I switched on the PSU. At this point no other device was connected to psu not even the motherboard, i just wanted to check if fans would run, also the controller was only connected to psu and fans and no other connections were done(usb to mobo was not done basically) . Within 5seconds I could smell burnt plastic kind of smell from both PSU and controller. I am not sure if this is compatibility issue or I need to plug in everything in for controller and then only connect psu sata connector. Now I am very scared to go ahead with any kind of build and am not sure if the PSU is faulty, was it my fault that I didn't connect all the wires of fan controller, was the fan controller faulty. Please I need some suggestion or help. I am very new to this forum, so very sorry if I do something wrong, any guidance will be really appreciated. Thanks
  16. Hi, I have a certain dilemma with my pc. All my fans and everything on the power/pwm side is working, but I have an issue on the RGB/ARGB side. I have 9 Lian li st-120W fans and a strimer v2 24 pins for motherboard power and strimer v2 2x8 pins for gpu power. My motherboard is a Rog strix B550-A Gaming. How do I wire everything to make every rgb parts work on the system? Thank you in advance
  17. So I have a fan controller that came with a case. It was working fine and the RGBs of the fans were good as well. The fan controller has RGB lights on itself and they were working fine as well. The fan controller had an extra cable for motherboard. But it was 3 pin and my motherboard had 4 pin. So I decided to somehow fit the wire on the 4 pin header and I did. Nothing changed when I connected it to G B R, then I flipped it, nothing. Then I changed the position to 12V G B and the RGB colors stopped spinning. Then I disconnected the wire but the colors were still and not spinning like before. I restarted the computer after turning the case supply off and now the RGB won't light up. Not even the remote or the RGB button on the case works. Can I fix it somehow? Please help me
  18. Help!!! Hello beautiful tech people! Im bringing an issue which i don't know if you ever experienced and i'm seeking for big HELP!!! I got a Floston Halo RGB Rainbow 3 pack fans today, with a package containing the 3 fans, 1 fan controller with a 4-pin molex going to PSU for power, a remote for the controller, one extension cable with 2-pins going inside the controller and 4-pin for the motherboard ( only 1-pin inside the head of the 4-pin) and a 5v with 3-pin for the rgb. First, i conected all 3 fans in order from 1 to 3 in the controller and the molex on the PSU power cable. All good by now, fans working properly, RGB working good, the remote working good as well with all the modes lightning effects. I also wanted to try to connect the extension sync cable to the motherboard to test and see how is doing with the MoBo. I connected de 4-pin fan cable coming from the controller in the sys_fan_2 4-pin connector and the 3-pin RGB in the d_led connector from the MoBo at 5V, fans and RGB also worked good, obviously i was not able to use the remote for the controller because it was synced with the MoBo. Here comes the issue: i have disconnected the MoBo sync cable from the MoBo because i wanted to set it back to control fans and RGB manually from the remote, when i did that, fans and RGB won't work anymore.....god damn, i dont think i have done nothing wrong!!! Now, to have the 3 fans working i have to let the controller connected the to the 4-pin from the MoBo, bad news is that the RGB don't work at all.....and i dont know what to do and PLEASE help me guys....i messaged the shop i buyed the fans from but they did not answered to me yet, i wanna consult this forum maybe i will find out a way what the problem is and maybe fix it. I am waiting for your opinions. Thank you so much!
  19. I found a pretty nice RGBW (Red, Green, Blue, White) LED strip on my house. I really want to put it into my PC case since it looks empty and dark. The only light in the case is from the case fans and the little Gigabyte logo on the GPU. I have an external fan hub/controller connected via SATA from the PSU with a remote to control the fan speed, brightness, and to cycle through different colour modes. It has more empty fan headers in it and I want to connect the LED strip to one of the headers. This would mean that I can turn the fans and the strip off with the remote that came with it. P.S. - My PSU also has extra molex connectors if that helps... I have attached pictures of the fan hub, connections already with the fan hub (the red cable has a female SATA on the other end which is connected to an empty SATA cable from my PSU and the black ones are the fan cables), the remote and also the LED strip.
  20. I bought a Phanteks universal fan controller to facilitate the 4 fans that I have in my case because my motherboard only has one fan header. I have a total of 4 3-pin fans (3 came with the case) but the controller only has 3 slots for 3 pin fans so I was wondering if I would be able to use a splitter on one of the fan hub ports or would it just be better and easier to get a 4 pin fan?
  21. Was wondering if this'll help me control the speed of my fans & work with the fans & motherboard im using (and if you can tell me how to determine that as well so i know how you came to this conclusion? im new) controller: https://www.nzxt.com/products/grid-plus-v3 fans: Deepcool RF120M(5 in 1) 56.5 CFM 120 mm Fans board: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard case: Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C ATX Mid Tower Case
  22. Ok guys so heres the deal. I have bought 12x Corsair SP120L fans to fit to my 3x 480mm radiators and a NZXT Sentry Mesh fan controller to run them off. The NZXT Sentry Mesh has 5 channels, each supporting 30W. Obviously there isnt enough channles to support 12 individual fans, so i was planning on buying a Y splitter so that i could run 4 fans per channel, occupying 3 of the 5 available channels. The problem is: 1. I cant find an appropriate 3pin to 4x3 pin Y-splitter anywhere. 2. The NZXT SENTRY MESH only supports 3 pin fan inputs (there isnt enough room to physically fit 2xPWM fan headers adjacent to eachother). 3. The cables provided with the NZXT SENTRY MESH only have 2 of the 3 pins actually present, and are wired using 2 cables. So I somehow need to find a way to power 12 fans in total, running a configuration of 4x PWM fans per channel that only accept 3 pin fan headers yet are wired with effectively 2 pin cables. Confused yet, so am I?
  23. Hi i just bought 2 noctua fans NF A14 industrialPPC-3000 PWM one works perfectly on any pin number of pins (3 and 4) but the other one won't start unless i disconnect it and plug it in again and it starts up and keeps on going.has anyone else had this problem?i've tested connecting it to the motherboard 4 pin and 3 pin and the same thing happens tried connecting it on my h440 fan header and it's the samething
  24. Hello all, My machine is built inside a converted Powermac G5, and inside I have 3 Arctic PWM fans. My motherboard only has 1 3pin fan connector for chassis fans, so I am daisy chaining the fans off each other. My motherboard is the Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 How would I get a hardware devices that I can plug the fans into, and then manipulate through software. Are there any? Thanks, Josh
