Fergus Urquhart the CEO of Obsidian Entertainment who in around 2000 assisted in the development of 2D role-playing games (RPG) such as Baldur’s Gate. Uncovered in an interview with IGN Unfiltered that one of the teams that he worked with began production of a game code-named Van Buren which was to be driven by the “then” latest technology a 3D game engine called Numerical Design Limited (NDL). This he said in the interview was to be the third in a succession of games we know as Fallout. That 3D NDL game engine was later sold to Gamebryo and became the engine used to develop Bethesda’s Fallout 3. Source: BY ALEX OSBORN @ IGN UNFILTERED / 27 JAN 2017.

I am Kind of new to 3d printing only had mine for a month or so. I just finished the long process of printing a Fallout Laser Pistol. I am in the process of assembling the pieces and getting it ready for Paint. I have a couple of places that need filling because of warps, top layer holes, and general seams where some of the pieces meet. What do you use to Fill work on your prints. I printed in PLA. Having spend 150+ hour printing this thing I don't want to ruin it with improper filler material.

I know I'm a bit late to the party but I played fallout 4 for the first time. This is due to the major backlash and horrendous issues with the game in ways only writing a book could have you understand if you haven't played it for yourself. I've only played a few hours of the game and have maxed out the graphics in 1080p, 1440p and 4k (almost). Why is it that the games graphical fidelity is lackluster and decent at best? It seems that the engine may be old? I feel like with the cards that I've tested (Rx 480, fury, Gtx 1070, Gtx 1080) It feels like the cards are doing worse than they should. I've made sure the test benches are fine and there is no thermal issues or bottle necks of any kind but for some reason the game just doesn't look that good. Maybe it's me? I just feel like something is holding the game/cards back and just makes the game looks god awful. Even at 1080p high settings I see jaggies out the ass and even when putting everything on ultra @1080p (God rays turned off) it still looks terrible. It feels mushy and like someone smeared Vaseline on the screen. It could be the style of the game but I have a rather unanimous consensus from my circle of friends that have played the title. I'm assuming it's an old engine (Which if it is shame on Bethesda) Honestly the game wasn't worth my money and will return the game asap. What do you guys think?

Ideas so far: Fluvo Nate Shure (not sure) Help me out here people

I just wanted to create this thread to toss around ideas on how Bethesda COULD implement 2 player co-op into some of their open world sandbox games. I really wanted a functioning Fallout 4 COOP mod to show up but it looks like that won't be happening due to the technical limitations of it. I noticed a lot of people arguing about how it could be implemented, if it even should be. This is my idea: First of all, it should be voluntary of course. It should be like Minecraft where one person hosts and the other people can only play when the host is online. I feel like that would be MUCH easier to maintain than to deal with dedicated servers. Of course a dedicated server would be much cooler but it's way too hard to maintain and seems really unnecessary. And of course the other person is able to DC whenever they want without interrupting the host's gaming. Now for the major things that people are afraid of: Story and conversation: Fallout can be heavily dialogue based and it's unrealistic to think Bethesda should change the dialogue lines to include both players, that'd be insanely time consuming and Bethesda already doesn't put enough time into polishing and bug checking, last thing we need is them having to polish this system. What they should do instead is continue to make it based around the host player. The host does all the talking and conversations. When you enter conversation the camera switches between the people talking when they're talking, right? Well if the second player is nearby there should be an option called "listen in" or something like that, where they see the same thing the host sees in conversation, all the people talking and the line picking options where the host decides the next line said. This way the host and the other player can discuss the correct option, but of course the host should make the decision. Charisma challenges should be based on the host entirely as well. Keep in mind, watching the conversation should be a toggle thing. If the second player would rather explore elsewhere than they should be able to. Companions and PVP: two player coop, no companions. The second player is essentially your companion, so you can't have Piper while your friend is playing with you. There are no special companion perks when you have a second player because it's already a perk to have a well equipped and competent player rather than a really crappy AI. PVP between players will also be an optional and consensual thing, akin to how it was done in Borderlands and it wouldn't completely kill the other player, but the losing player would have to heal themselves' back up while the winner gets their health reset to the way their health was before the 1v1 (that way you can't just do 1v1s to boost the other person's health and the loser does face a consequence) Items: Items and shopping should be the same for either character. When one player picks up an item it should still be there on the other player's screen. If there's a roll of duct tape in the corner and the host picks it up, it should still be on the other player's screen. This way there will be plenty of items for both players so Bethesda doesn't have to worry about increasing the amount of items. This will be different with pick up items and props though. Props like chairs and stuff like that will be the same for both screens, that way if one player hits the chair it moves for the other player. That's different from items though, so if one player moves or picks up an item it doesn't move for the other player. This should go for power suits and weapons as well. When one player is in the powersuit, the other player should be able to see it. But once that player gets out it should disappear for the other. It's gonna look janky and unimmersive but this seems like the best option. Players can't share items so there will never be an overabundance so that difficulty will remain the same. They have different items even if they're at the same workshop or crate. Shops will be the same. If one player buys a weapon from a dealer then that weapon should still be available to the other player. Game difficulty: With two players the game difficulty most certainly needs to be increased to compensate. I would say add twice the enemies and double their health. Bosses get health doubled (but of course there won't be two of the same boss that would be stupid) and there will be twice the amount of super mutants or ogres than before with double the health. If a player DCs while the host is in a gunfight, drop the difficulty so less enemies spawn and newly spawned enemies have less health so as soon as the host clears out the enemies that spawned in while it was still a two player game, it'll be as if it were a single player game the entire time. Bethesda has a bad habit of giving us low framerates when a lot of enemies are on screen though, so a solution to that would be to make the corpses of bodies killed by one player invisible to the other. It'll be last hit based by the way. If one player did 99 damage to an enemy and the other player got the last hit then tough luck! Kill got stolen. That's why you don't play with asshole friends am i right? This way there doesn't get to be an overabundance of items and the game doesn't have to render so many bodies. This would be different for bosses, however, where both the players would still see the boss's corpse and can loot from it. Of course for Bethesda to be able to handle this some compromises need to be made. Maybe less render distance in two player mode and lowered quality. You'll get the best looking and best performing game on solo play but sacrifices must be made in coop. Tough luck kiddo! Finally, the workshop: If Bethesda continues to keep the workshop function introduced in Fallout for and the one in Skyrim, there needs to be a coop plan for it. I think it makes a lot more sense to keep in the workshop function if they do include a coop function. What's the point in building a bad ass settlement or lake house if you can't show it off? I would in Fallout, both players should be able to make a settlement. They both get to build in the same settlement and everything, they can delete each other's items and everything. It should be just like Minecraft in that sense. They should have separate workshops though since they can't share items. If one player has 84 concrete the other player has to get their own concrete. If the second player delete's the host's items (or vice versa) items go back to the original builder, not the person who destroyed it. For a new Elder Scrolls game if they keep the same house building system like they did in Skyrim, I think both players get their own house and can't change the other's. Homes in the Elder Scrolls games should be entirely personal and unaffected by another player. And that's my idea for how Bethesda should implement coop! I know it's much easier said than done but I just wanted to give my perspective as a gamer and NOT a game designer. If there's something I didn't touch on or if you have a better idea or just want to comment on my idea please do so! I want this to be a discussion after all. Also no arguing or insulting. If you have a better idea that someone else in this thread or than me please share it respectfully, I don't want this to be an argument, just a friendly discussion between gamers.

I am playing all the old fallout games and I recently downloaded Fallout 3 and did all the normal compatibility stuff: Downloaded the Unofficial Patch Set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP3 downloaded G4WL disabled G4WL Still it crashes every time I press "New Game" and "Yes". I have read through a bunch of different threads but none of them seem to apply to me. I'm running a: GTX 1070 i5-4690K 16 GBs of ram SSD boot and Hybrid Mass Storage

Specs: gtx 1060/ryzen 1600 In most games (for example Rust/Fallout 4) my gpu rarely ever goes over 50% gpu usage resulting in pretty bad framerates. On top Im also getting fps drops caused by gpu usage dropping for a split second from for example 40% to 15% dropping my fps hard. How is this possible? Gpu isn't overheating http://imgur.com/a/dOXgu (right percentage is gpu usage/left is power consumption) No components have been overclocked (gpu factory oc) and Im using the latest Nvidia drivers Playing Fallout 4 I also noticed that looking at certain things/areas dropped my gpu usage hard to like 30 both, turning around looking at a wall or something my gpu usage actually goes up.

GPU for modded Skyrim/Fallout games and upcoming titles
Dimitri0706 posted a topic in Graphics Cards
So I finally decided to scrape together enough cash for a graphics card and can't really decide between two cards. The GTX 1070 and the RX 480 (also I've been thinking of the R9 Fury but HBM is uncharted territory for me). As the title suggests I play a lot of Bethesda games modded to high hell (mainly script mods, overhauls, and feature adding mods) and would like something that can handle that with a few light texture mods. Where I live (Hungary) both cards are expensive due to import taxes but the 1070 is a good 160-170 dollars more (USD). I'm wondering if the added performance would be worth it for games other than Skyrim and Fallout modded (because you can never have enough GPU for those games) at 1080p tops with an FX-8320 stock and 8GB of memory. Also, would a 550W Chieftec Smart PSU be able to handle either of the cards with the 8320? I already killed a hard drive with a crappy power supply and would love to avoid further incidents. Any other suggestions are much appreciated, thank you in advance. -

Hello, Name's Deetex. I recently bought a new laptop to replace my 6+ year old Dell. The one I elected to buy was the Asus TUF FX505DT. Ryzen 3750H + Vega 10. GTX1650m 16Gb 2400Mhz (2x8) Kingston HyperX Main SSD is a Samsung OEM specimen, 512Gb. Secondary storage is provided by a seagate 2Tb 7.2K Harddrive. Everything is running hunkydori, except neither Skyrim SE or Fallout 4 will actually play. They run FINE on my Desktop, which is roughly speaking comparable to the notebook(1950x, RTX2080Ti, Samsung 970Pro, 8x8Gb Corsair 3K RGB). I have them installed via Steam, Steam itself is installed to the default folder(C:/Program Files(x86)/Steam/, and the games were installed to the D:/ drive. Upon launch, I get Steam's first-run prompt(DirectX apparently needs an install -EVERY- time, not just the first one)... then the splashscreen launcher comes in, it tries to detect the graphics hardware(and naturally fails)... setting said graphics option to High or Ultra, or even leaving it at low, does nothing. Upon hitting [PLAY], the Splash loader disappears, but the game does not appear. There is no process running, no EXE listed, my CPU is near enough running idle, and Steam indicates I'm doing nothing. What I've tried so far; -Checked BIOS and Drivers for updates; non applicable. -Verified integrity of game cache files. -Deleted and re-downloaded. -Checked the Internet, but I'm having trouble summorizing this issue, as there isn't even a crashlog or message, my google-fu is left wanting. -Compared the installation folders to those on my Desktop, which runs both games fine(both pancake and VR). -Hard-set the nVidia control panel to run the games and launchers through the GTX instead of Vega. *--Also tried this in Window's own GPU settings. -Fullscreen, Windowed and Windowed_borderless make no difference(Thanks for the tip, williamcll) -Unistalled the game, deleted the remaining folder, then reinstalled it. (Submitted by Intransigent) -Installed the game to the Steam install folder(C:/Program Files(x86)/Steam. I found something on NexusMods pertaining to nVidia Optimus Optimizing, but that requires the replacement of D3D9.dll, which I am unable to locate on either my Desktop or Notebook... so... What I haven't tried so far; -Hard-set the game and launcher to run through the VEGA instead of the GTX. -Determine if I have the same issue with Skyrim/Fallout4 VR editions. -Run either game in Compatibility mode. Shouldn't matter, my desktop is an RTX enabled Threadripper system... -Copy over the configuration INI's from Desktop to notebook. -Copy over installation folder from Desktop to Notebook. -Completely reinstall Steam itself to closer match my Desktop's configuration; Steam in the C:/Steam folder, do away with the ProgramFiles... Does anyone have any other ideas that might help me out?

Well looks like Intel's chips have been hit hard first by Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities and now by MDS vulnerabilities as well. AMD has been hit by their mitigations for Spectre but since Intel has had now 5 vulnerabilities to patch it seems like they might not be the default CPU in the market anymore particularly now AMD has a process node lead over them too. Though it seems 8th gen and 9th gen processors are not affected as much by this. But they are still significantly more than AMD's offering and they may now be more similar in performance https://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-amd-mitigations-performance-impact,39381.html According to Phoronix an 8700K might now be on par with a Ryzen 7 2700X and the same for the 2990WX and the 7980XE. Though since Intel chips can be overclocked further they might still have a performance advantage. But on out of the box specs they might be more similar and this further gives consumers a reason to buy AMD processors. Though this is Linux and not Windows I might add. Plus AMD has rejoined the Fortune 500 list so their debt situation seems to be looking up. Though comparing them with the revenue for Intel at the moment I'd expect Intel to not sit on their hands and to do something about this. AMD Fortune 500

Gigabyte WindForce 1060 6gb Not Performing as Expected
Swoops McGee posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Hello all, My rig is only about 3-4 months old with these specs: CPU: Ryzen 3 2200g (OC @ 3.8Ghz) RAM: 8gb 3000Mhz DDR4 (dual channel) GPU: GB Windforce 1060 6gb (dual fan OC'd using Afterburner's new built in OC optimizer - roughly 1900Mhz) PSU: Seasonic 520W Bronze Storage: 1.75TB total of 7200 HDD, no SSD yet. I believe some more optimization needs to be done due to recent performance. The main instance recently has been in Fallout 4 - completely Vanilla. With Afterburner always open while gaming, my CPU sits at around 70-90% usage and around 50-65 degrees. My GPU sits at 80-95% usage and hits a high temp of mid 70's. There are many areas in Fallout 4 where FPS drops to 35-45 FPS and stays there for quite a while. It seems to be based on the environment, but this still does not seem correct. I run it at high-ultra settings (a few things turned off such as v-sync, motion blur, effects lowered a tiny bit). These results seem sub-par for the readings I am getting through Afterburner. Another example, though it is not as consistent, is Far Cry 4 and 5. Far Cry 5 I have set around high settings, so not ultra and sit at 60 most of the time, but get stutters here and there and the FPS sits at around 45-50 after the stutter and builds back up to 60.. Sometimes it takes a while to vamp back up. These results may be more appropriate than I may think as I am new to this and this is my first PC. One thought I have had is the HDD. I know an SSD would help boot performance and allover OS performance, but did not think it would have much of an effect on in-game performance - such as helping with these issues I am seeing. So what do you guys think? Thanks! -
i only get max 48 frames in fallout 76 on my 7700k and gtx 1070 both overclocked withh the cpu using only 17% and GPU only 50%
-
Whenever I play Fallout 4 it starts out fine and running at 60fps, but after a little bit, like 10-30 seconds. It drops to a 30 fps cap and it plays like it's duplicating every frame and stays that way, regardless of where I go in the world. Often it even drops down to a single frame. I know it's not my hardware not being good enough since it has run just fine up until then, and Fallout 76 works just fine on the highest settings. I'm updated on all my drivers. I've tried new saves, no mods, Turned off v-sync, lower visual settings, and lower resolution. All of these i've tried at the same result. It is to note that with a new save, no mods, and lower visual settings the problem prolonged for slightly longer. If you guys have any ideas, please tell me. Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Graphics card/GPU: Radeon RX 580 (4 gb) RAM: 16 gb DDR4 (2x8) Motherboard: MSI B350M Bazooka

Okay, so I have a near vanilla version of New Vegas without any mods. I have downloaded d3d9.dll which can easily be removed. Every time the game finishes the intro the game would crash. With the d3d9.dll the whole PC freezes. My specs are R5 2400G @4.0GHz and 16GB 2400MHz RAM. I honestly don't know what to do to fix this. Does anyone have any advice? (I accidentally posted this in "Off-Topic" and I don't know how to delete it. Admins, please delete the other one)

I recently have been playing all of the old Fallout games, but when I get to Fallout: New Vegas, It crashes about 10 minutes in. I don't recall exactly what triggers it, but I know ALT + TAB ing freezes it. WHen it crashes, It doesn't say "Not responding" or anything, it just disappears. Anyone have the same issue? (I have tried running in compatibility mode for Win Vista and Win 7.)

As the title states, I’m having an issue with my gpu where in a few games, the gpu load changes very frequently if I use any of the in game controls and I’ve been able to link this rapid changing to the lag spikes I keep experiencing. I can’t provide screenshots right now since I’m on mobile. I’ve been having internet troubles for the past few days on my PC. In Fallout NV, Terraria, Clone Hero, Minecraft and Garry’s Mod, I have this issue and i’ve had it for the past half year. I have some not-so-good hardware anyway, but these are all games I shouldn’t have any trouble with. CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 220 2.8 GHz GPU: MSI GeForce GT 610 RAM: 6GB DDR3 OS: Windows 7 (x64) SP1 I know I have bad hardware but these are all games I didn’t have issues with until a few months after getting the GT 610. Before that, I had no fps issues at all. In NV my framerate drops way more than it should. I’ll be getting a new GPU soon but I want to know why this even happened.
