Hey guys, so i have a really simple problem that i just can't seem to find a solution for. I just connected a new 1TB USB 3.0 Drive to my Xbox Series S. Now, because im a moron, i just pressed through the questions that the Xbox asked me. Afterwards, i realized that i configured it to be a media storage harddrive. So, i can't put any games on it and it also doesn't even appear in the "Storage" section under the "System" settings panel. However, if i connect it, it clearly gets recognized because i can access the data on the Drive. Still, i can't seem to find any way to re-assign it as game storage. I Formated it to exFAT and NTFS on my Windows computer, both didnt work. Restarted everything etc. Does anyone of you have an idea on what i can do?

Hi guys, I’ve run into a weird situation. I tried using external hard drives and they didn’t show up. I tried different three, with different cables and on two different PCs. They show up for a second and then they restart over and over again. Does anybody know how to solve this? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I have an external drive that isn't being recognized by Windows and I need to get the data off of it. I have checked to see if windows recognizes it in the partition manager (Like Windows just didn't assign it a letter or something) but it didn't appear there either. I think the connector on the external drive is bad. The data on the drive is very important to me and I would really like to get it back. I am thinking of sending it to a data recovery center but not quite sure where to start. Do y'all have recommendations? Things to look for? Big red flags? Thanks for all of the help in advance!

I put the files from the windows repair iso on my external hard drive, but when i rebooted the files from the iso are all that are left, and there is a fat32 mbr partition, and the rest of the drive has been unallocated. I could have also done this accidentally with the mount command in the repair command prompt section? Wondering if i can somehow easily repair the drive partition and get my data back

I have a 2TB external HDD by Toshiba. Amazon Link of product I have been using it for about 4 years. O never used it much, just for occasional storage of stuff. I once tried to play warzone through it, as my lap only has a 250gb SSD (this may/may not help in diagnosing the problem) Anyway, from yesterday onwards, I cannot essentially copy anything FROM the drive. It bursts for some moment but then essentially dies down.(Image 1) But I am able to copy anything and everything INTO the drive at almost decent speeds, still it dies down for a second and raise backup immediately, unlike the READ speeds I looked in task manager, but nothing major is running that can potentially cause this, but even at this point, the drive usage is full, but there is ZERO I/Ops For reference, this drive had consistent speeds for read and write of about 80-100Mbps during the initial days. Here are the other resource usages, if it helps The solutions I have tried: 1. Excluded the dive from Windows Defender antivirus 2. Formatted the entire drive ones, still this is the state Any advice would be welcome. _____________EDITS and UPDATE_______________ This is what shows when my transfer fails completely I have another External HDD also by Toshiba Amazon link of that drive, I'll try some tests with that to to rule out is the issue is with 1. cable 2. Laptop 3. Hdd itself : I'll update the results here. ______RESULTS___________ 1. cable : Swapped the cable, still has the problem 2. laptop : Transferred files to and from the second HDD with 100+Mbps speed - so not the problem of laptop or ports 3. Hdd itself : So the problem rules down to the Hdd itself. Any suggestions will be welcome.

This is concerning the external USB expanded storage of the PlayStation 5 not the recently supported internal M.2 expanded storage as well as external HDD/SSD tech and limitations. By reading the PlayStation support page it appears that the USB ports max throughput is a single lane at 10 Gbit/s (3.1 aka 3.1 gen 2 connection aka 3.2 gen 2 x 1, USB forum rally f'd up 3.0's naming). My question are most external drives just standard 2.5" or 3.5" hdds or ssds with an enclosure using SATA 3 which has a max throughput of 6 Gbit/s or are they able to utilize the full bandwidth? Also, if there is PS5 gamers that use a 5 Gbit/s (3.0 aka 3.1 gen 1 aka 3.2 gen 1 x 1) how is the experience of playing PS4 games off it? If the experience is fine and most external drives have bottlenecks I'll probably just buy an enclosure and use a commodity SATA drive.

Hello everyone, I have a PC with this config: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 with stock cooler Motherboard: Asus Prime B450-Plus Ram: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2*8) DDR4 3000 Graphics Card: Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super Gaming X3 OC 8GB PSU: Cooler Master 750W Gold plus Lexar 500GB nvme + 2TB Samsun Qvo 870 Sata SSD + 2TB Seagate HDD Monitor: ViewSonic XG 27" 1440p 144hz I built this PC about 1.5 years ago and I've been using it for mobile game development with Unity. So apart from some times that I repack art asset atlases with compression that is using CPU for like 5 to 30 minutes it is not doing that much. I used to play games like Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty Moden Warfare at 1440p but haven't done that in a while. Anyway, about six months ago it started showing some weird behaviors. When I shut down my computer, I couldn't power it up by the power button. Until I used PSU button at the back to cut off the power for like 5 minutes and then the power button would work. It was like this for a while on and off and I couldn't find out what's the reason. One time I decided to re-assemble the PC but it didn't fix it. Then it got fixed for some reason I don't know. This was the first thing. Then a month ago I started to play Dota 2 again. It was fine, no problem here, until one day I connected my 2TB western digital External HDD to the front panel USB and the PC shut down immediately without any error or anything. I turned on the PC and it was working fine, the HDD also worked fine. After a week connected the HDD again, but this time I used the USB port in the back and it happened again, the PC immediately shut down with no error. Then after another couple of weeks it started to shut down while playing game. Just like before it shut down with no error or any sign. It was like the power went out but the LED strip on the motherboard was working. I noticed if I immediately after the shutdown (like withing a second of it) hit the power button it would stop working just like before. I googled a bit and got the suggestion that maybe it's related to the PSU so I looked at it and noticed that the last time I re-assembled my PC I put it upside down inside the PSU enclosure so the fan was on the top and it probably didn't have enough air intake to cool down the PSU while gaming. I put it in correctly and it fixed the problem for a day but it started again and this time it got worth. Before it would shut down after 4 or 5 hours but now after an hour of gameplay. For the USB issue I tried to narrow it down. With the External HDD if I connect it to any of the USBs on the PC it would shut down in windows or BIOS. If I use the USB hubs on my monitors or my keyboard it does shut down. I used my mouse, keyboard and flash drive and none of them caused the PC to shut down. I used only the cable without attaching the HDD and it didn't cause any shut down. For the shut down during game I used HWiNFO to monitor the PC and all the temperature I could see were normal. CPU was around 80 and GPU was 70 all the time. I used a memtest to see if the RAMs were OK and a three hour test didn't show any error there. I also used a synthetic benchmark (a combination of Cinebench r23 multi core and FurMark for 30 minutes) and the PC was fine and stable. The GPU and CPU were thermal throttled to around 1815MHz and 3.8GHz respectively during that time but no power limit or anything and no shut down. Now I have couple of ideas. I think it's either Motherboard or PSU but I don't have access to any extra of any of these to test it out. I think maybe the PSU got a defect during the time I was using it upside down and now it can't handle sudden surge of power that may happen during game but since the synthetic benchmark is steady it doesn't have any issue handling that. And for the USB it maybe something is wrong (a capacitor maybe?) with the HDD that acts like a short circuit (subscribe to the channel, it's a good :)) ) and causes the PSU to shut down the PC. Maybe these are not related at all, frankly I have no idea at right now. Can anyone help me with these? Any ideas?

I am looking for an external HDD with 8TB, but I can't seem to find one that does not have the old micro usb b connector, which I would like to avoid because it is a terrible connector and type C seems to last much longer. If anyone has any advice for some good external hdd with at least 6tb or more I would appreciate. I wanted something similar to one of these Western Digital Elements Desktop External Hard Drive WD My Book Desktop

I have a Latitude E7740 laptop. When I plug my HDD USB 3.0 enclosure in, the computer starts freaking out, constantly enabling and disabling the USB enclosure (for power saving?). I took care of that by uncheck the "Allow computer to turn this device off to save power" but the computer still stop it after a while. The files are accessible (not for the users' folder). Disk Management and Minitool Partition Wizard fail to lauch/refresh but immediately work after I unplug it, even restarting/signing out/shutdown fail while it is connected. CPU usage peaks. It is not just Windows that struggles though. I have a Kali Linux VM and the same problems occur when I connect it to my VM: GParted take forever to load disks, 100% CPU usage, cannot restart/shutdown/reboot (but using sudo works). Kali Linux take ages to mount any of the 3 partitions the HDD has which does not happen with Windows 10. ORICO is the HDD enclosure's brand I am a little bit confused why this happened so if you have any theories, please reply (also make it clear that if your reply is a just theory or the real explanation)

It's been a while, about 9 months, since my 2tb external HDD got corrupted when it accidentally unplugged thanks to it's wobbly cable. It has always been like that since I bought it in 2014 and never had a problem with it before, also the drive came formated to NFTS as intented to be used as my Time Machine. During this time, the unit has always been detected by the Mac and other PCs, the HDD doesn't do any weird noises and acts just as normal. In this time I've tried some methods that can just be summed up in just 3: Using Disk Utility's Main options: First aid, partition, erase and restore being futile but just dropping the diagnosis of the error in question com.apple.diskmanagement.disenter error 0 . Accessing the root user and editing in terminal the path being shown in this tutorial. While being a well elaborated tut, it didn't solve my problem. Using photorec and testdisk. Of course, first installing the Unix libraries that Mac OS lacks, to have the programs work properly. Again, my external unit was detected but I wasn't able to do anything at all after that. Of course, i've tried forcing mount and unmount with all privileges but this issue i am having can't be solve that way. I've seen in some Apple dedicated forums, including the official one that this has been a problem since the Catalina update, which is the one I'm using and in which the com.apple.diskmanagement.disenter error 0 happened to me. I had luck in this forum with my previous problem and i hope this awesome community knows a way out of this error that is entirely Apple's responsibility. Happy Holidays!

I have this external SSD (Samsung T7 1TB) with Windows10 on it, my main machine is a MacBook Pro 13' 2018. I recently shrunk the volume, so that it could have two partitions, one for Windows and one as a regular ExFat USB drive to use for with MacOS. The ExFat and Windows partitions appear when I have the drive connected on MacOS. But when I am on Windows, I don't see the other partition on File Explorer. I do see it on Disk Management where it comes out as a Healthy Partition. So not sure why Windows does not see the partition as a USB.

I have an old windows 10 laptop that was dropped and no longer turns on, I've torn it apart to gut it for spare parts. I've recovered any files from the mechanical hard drive that I needed, but I would like to recover the windows activation key for future use, does anyone know of a good way to do this?

Greetings community. I am looking at two external drives (but limited two these two, feel free to make a suggestion for a different one) to back up some files on my computer. I currently have about 1.3 tb of data to back up, but as I am a content creator that number is always growing. I would like an external drive with 4-6tb of storage for around $100. Here are the two drives I was looking at: Toshiba: https://smile.amazon.com/Toshiba-Canvio-Portable-External-HDTB440XK3CA/dp/B07KQPKJXH/ref=sr_1_5?crid=OT5CMQ1XRH7N&dchild=1&keywords=4tb+external+hard+drive&qid=1589669942&sprefix=4tb+%2Caps%2C254&sr=8-5 Seagate: https://smile.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B07VS8QCXC/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1

Hello everyone, few days ago my friend bought a new laptop that came without windows installed on it, so he used my external hard disc to create windows installer. now I cant access my data on the disc. The original capacity is 1TB, when i connect it to my computer it shows thats its only 35GB. We did a quick search i we found out that it was partitioned and the data still there some where. and the attempt we did ended up with failure or an expensive subscription plan to restore it to the way it was. Is there any way i could restore my data? i have important data on that external hard disc. please help!!

Hey Guys, So I am having this issue with USB3 HD's that I cannot safely eject them from the PC. I have searched the net but have not found any solution that works. SPECS: R7 2700X ASUS X470 Pro 64 GB RAM Win 10 X64 1909 Build 18363.836 I can eject thumb drives smaller than 64GB, but anything over that, Pops the error that the drive cannot be ejected as some application is using it.
