Hello, I was looking at getting this motherboard https://www.newegg.com/amp/asus-rog-maximus-z790-hero/p/N82E16813119597 and it says it comes with a PCIe 5.0 Hyper M.2 Card. After googling I learn I can put m.2’s in there but it’s raid or something. After googling what raid is for, I see something about choosing speed or redundancy, I have no care for redundancy really. Questions: 1. what is this for? 2. Is it just letting me add more m.2 drives? 3. what m.2’s should I get for it? 4. Is it faster than m.2 on the motherboard? 5. What do I put on it? Games? any info on this would be appreciated, thank you!

What's the main differences between the X and Z series motherboards? I'm using a z590 because my cpu is unlocked and the Z series allows for overclocking but thats about as far as I've looked into it. Would someone care to elaborate further for me?

Hi! I had discussed an article with a friend recently, about how does "RobinHood" makes money. Not returning to those exact problems, we couldnt rsolve a more general question: why do you need robinhood (or any other similar products) at all? I'm not talking about going in person to a nasdaq, but isnt it just another middle man between you and a thing you want to buy/sell? Arent there more streamline ways for an average person to buy stocks in NA (both, Canada and USA)? To be clear: this is not a question, how do stocks (and other equities) work, as I had lessons on it in uni and i have some personla experience by now. But it seems that ways of accessing stock market differ between countries. P.S. I rewatched TechLinked on "Robinhood" topic and didnt find an answer. P.P.S. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi all, I know that there is already a video explaining screen resolution on techquickie, but there is still too many people that don't know screen resolution, and that give them any names, just look at the comment on the 8K screen video and how many people asked why isn't it a 16K screen. I was hoping that there would be an explanation in the video, so people would understand why 8K is 4 4K monitors, but there was none. Also on some phone reviews people were saying one of the screen had a 1080p resolution and the other one a 2K resolution, when referring to a 1440p screen. When 2K is for any screen with a 2000 pixel length only, and that 1920x1080 is sometimes considered 2K (from the Wikipedia page on 2k screen). So I hope to see a video explaining for example that 1080p isn't 1K etc... on the main channel so it can be a detailed video and hit more audience because I think that everybody should know about this. The techquickie one got 300 000 views and was posted 2 years ago. It is simply annoying to see how many people get it wrong and start arguing, even more annoying to see that tech reviewers make such a mistake.

TL;DR This is just regarding watching videos. My brother thinks you need to adjust brightness and have the ability to render HDR to make a PC look less like a "PC plugged into a TV", where as his Xbox and TV's YouTube app display everything better. I'm not sure where to post this, but I need help explaining a few things, because every time I go to explain display calibration and that computers are basically a bigger and more powerful thing that what's in his smart OLED TV, I get a "Yeah but" in response. Any assistance is appreciated, especially if there is a better place to post this. I'll set the scene: I have a younger brother that games on console. That in itself is fine, because I infrequently play online with him, but recently he has bought a new TV. He tells me how awesome his 4K TV is when he watches 4K Netflix, YouTube and plays 4K games on his Xbox One X. When I say that my computer can do all that, (i7 8700, RTX2070, 32GB RAM, 970Pro, etc) he is sceptical and the next time we hang out I bring my computer and we watch a movie in 1080p via HDMI. The next week I get this text after organising another movie night: "[...] bring it on a USB [...] and we can try play it directly through the TV, might make it look better." This bewilders me, and I tell him I can't because the files are over 4GB in size and won't fit on a FAT32 drive. I also scoff that he compared his, albeit expensive, TV to a desktop computer. His response is just that "It looked washed out last week, like it was on a computer screen. When I stream things straight off Netflix or Blu-ray it looks crisp as." I don't understand what he means by washed out, because the colours looked true to life to me, but I think he is used to the over vibrancy in video games. Can't be sure. Now, the video files we are watching aren't 4k, so I get it can't be compared to 4k footage. But the bitrates are 15-20Mbps, with true colours and minimal artefacts. It's a very good image on a 1080p display, like my TV at home, and it's equally as colour accurate and artefact free on his TV. When I say that his TV isn't magic he responds "Well no because your computer's display settings such as brightness, contrast, sharpness, and ability to render HDR or 4K would affect the way it looks." Even going as far as saying Netflix looks better on his TV than when someone plugs in a laptop. "It looks like a laptop on a TV." I don't know how to respond to this. Could it be that laptops have colour profiles because their display is incorporated into the device and that's how you calibrate laptop displays? I'm lost for words. I've tried looking up colour calibration, and showing him that it's all display dependent. I can't even find anyone talking about the 2070's ability to "render HDR or 4K", except that it can handle a 2D Texture Size up to 131072x65536 and is HDR ready. But how old would I have to go to find something that wasn't HDR ready? Does the 2070 support HDMI 2.1 and Display Port 1.4? I've found the Windows HD Colour Settings, but that just says if the connected display can do HDR and WCG. I've tried showing him videos on YouTube in 4k, but when the "YouTube compression" artefacts start showing up in both the computer and the TV he starts saying that Netflix on his TV never has those types of artefacts. I don't know how to explain to a 25 year old, who only uses his Xbox to game and watch movies, and the TV app to watch YouTube, that the cost of a computer isn't a waste. It's like he doesn't even know what a computer is, except that his Xbox One X must be a really good PC for really cheap because it looks "better" and his TV is amazing because it displays the best Netflix content. I render videos and music. I game and often dual screen. I basically need a computer to multi task. I don't know enough about the technology to tell him he doesn't know what he is talking about. Next time I go around, I'm going to take -IMAX Pre Show 2014- that I downloaded in lossless 4k quality, and the YouTube link for the same video IMAX Pre Show 4K, because then I'll have a video that fits on a USB and that's on YouTube so he can finally understand that it's the content that dictates how good the image is. Not the device playing it. Lastly, how does the Xbox render 4K and cost a quarter the price of a new gaming pc that would crush 4k? I know previous consoles would upscale, but apparently the Xbox One X naively does 4k.

Hi everyone, I have a quick question. For some apparent reason my video card (nvidia gtx n760 hawk) doesn't work in the 2 pci-e 16x slots but only in the 8x. I have asked plenty of people for the reason but none could figure out why, I've heard that it doesn't really make that much of a difference but I personally don't really like the idea of half of the pins being out in the open. Specs: Cpu: intel 2 quad Q9400 running at 2.67GHz Ram: 4x2GB DDR2 corsair XMS2 800MHz Gpu: nvidia GTX N760 HAWK (got it for €80 btw :D) Psu: combat power 750W Mobo: HP xw4600 motherboard I know these are very low specs but I'm a budget gamer ;-; Just for a bit off topic and another question, I'm upgrading my pc to these parts. Cpu: Ryzen 5 1500x Gpu: stays the GTX N760 HAWK Mobo: pc mate B350 msi Ram: corsair 2x8GB DDR4 2666MHz white LED (do these work with the Ryzen chipset??) Psu: stays combat power 750W Case: NZXT S340 black window And for the GPU problem I can send a video for proof if you want. Thanks for helping

I'm trying to understand how does the motherboard, Ram and CPU help improve the performance of the PC during gaming unlike GPU and hard drive of which I understand. A clear explanation would be great because im thinking about upgrading my motherboard, RAM and CPU cause I think they might be throttling my GPU. Thanks

I'm a Best Buy employee and I'm looking for ways to explain the benefits of one part over another in a simple way for someone who doesn't understand computers. Most of the time I hear analogy's with cars or lanes and speeds on a highway but I think there's an even better way out there. I believe I am very familiar with these parts when it comes to explaining them to someone who already gets it but the large majority of people don't. I'm mostly looking for how to explain to someone that certain processors won't/will do what they want. Also, many people come in an refuse to buy a computer with AMD in it. For most general users I think that it wouldn't matter the brand as long as it has the same performance output. Am I right/wrong? How can I explain this?

I don't seem to quite understand what it is and I keep hearing it wont work over usb.

Can someone help explain everything about the fan headers? Ive read things that clash with eachother about the controllers, like "Oh dont plug it into the alternate cpu header, or it will only take these numbers of fans before it "Blows up". I need halp

Why do I see this processor so often being talked about and used in builds? What is so amazing about it? Sorry, I have no cpu skillz so I can't determine myself. Edit: Is it solely the price point?

Ok so this happens every year (since they removed the console from cod, what was that, mw2?, I stopped playing the new ones) and capped the game at "91" fps. Everyone starts complaining and the same thing come up every time, "Oh why is it 91 fps its such an arbitrary number, why not pick a more used frame rate such as 60, 120 or 144". In fact 91 is actually not arbitrary at all and the other ones actually are (please note i'm not saying 91 is good i'm simply explaining why they use it). To explain we need to go back to the basics, the engine (please also note, they never "change" the engine, it has always been a modified version of the "id Tech 3" or "quake" engine and every time that they say its a "new engine" they really mean they added new stuff source:here). The id Tech 3 engine is quite old now however for most of the underlying parts of the CoD games they will keep the code the same, meaning "bugs" from engine will always be there (why would they re-write the code if its already been written). As the fps part of the game is a integral in the engine then the "bugs" from way back in the day will still be here. The id Tech 3 engine's fps part works with integer (real whole numbers) values that are derived from 1000/x, this means that the engine will ONLY run at "fps's" which are integers from 1000/x (x being any integer below 1000 i.e. 1,2,3,4,5,6, etc....). If "x" is a number which would make 1000/x not an integer the division still happens but the number is rounded up to the nearest FPS that DOES allow the division to be an integer. These numbers being 500, 333, 250, 200, 125, 91, 83, etc... . This is why 91 is not a random number which IW made up, its how the engine works! FYI, IW actually set the FPS to be 85 (i actually don't know where they make this value up from, it makes no sense) however as the engine rounds to the next which is 91. It may be due to the fact some framerates cause bugs in the engine, at: 125 = jump further 250 = jump higher 333 = lots of bugs, some fall damage decrease, you jump A LOT higher/further Here are some screenshots of the proof of rounding, FPS is in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, in the top left is what I set the FPS to be. You can see 240, 60 and 85 round up but the 250 just stays 250. (shows capping to 60 would make it 62/63 anyway, also 120 would round to 125 and 144 would round to 166) Source: General knowledge of how cod4 works (played for ages (Promod = best game ever)) Source: Quake engine Source: Cod4 modding wiki Edit: Pressed Post to early, hadn't finished writing it. Edit: spelling Edit: Added some more explaining

Questions by a member of the forum. "Can you please explain this to me? I can't find out exactly what they are." (In regards to Folding @ Home, Bitcoin mining, etc.) My answer: I have literally no idea what Folding @ Home is beyond "It's a computer set up to do calcuations for the purpose of scientific discovery/understanding." Example: If there's a DNA genome that needs to be sequenced, which would normally take a super computer to do, and the scientists lack the hardware to do it, they can use Folding @ Home groups as if they were one big super computer to sequence the genome for them. That's at least how I understood it, though I could be very wrong about that. YMMV As for Bitcoin mining, I know a bit about that. But it's an essay almost. I'll put it in a spoiler.

I understand how they work, and the process of them and how the consumer can benefit and such. However, I don't understand the point of the companies even offering one, how do they benefit in any way? Plus, why do they have to put this unnecessary process in there, why not just lower the items price? This may be a stupid question but I don't understand this.

Hi guys, I am confused. IIRC, at the Hawaii event, the AMD guy said explicitly that pre-orders would be available October 3rd. And yet Newegg still isn't offering pre-orders. Just listing the items (and they do say "Battlefield 4 game included, limited offer", so they are the pre-orders mentioned) with the "coming soon" thing. I'm just curious as to why this is. If anyone knows. Thanks, Vitalius.
