  1. Hi everyone, Just trying to get an idea on how this case is, in all aspects. Doing a white build and was having difficulty choosing a case. Any information is appreciated! Thanks All! ~tropton~
  2. I couldn't find a better place to post this so I though this thread seemed the most adequate for the LTT choices available. Is it just me or do desktops just seem to provide a more immersive experience than laptops, even high end ones? I really don't want to drag this question on but as I have gotten older I feel as though I have developed autism and began to notice more and more things that drive me crazy. Among these is never being happy with anything, but especially laptops vs my desktop. My desktop build is a fx vishers 4350 on a gigabyte gmt-78 and 4 gigabytes of ram, I am currently running an HP elite book with 8 gb ram and an 15-2540M cpu, but I did have an alienware r3 with an i7 and 32 gb of ram and an ssd at one point up until last year the processor died and I have yet to get around to replacing, but I am planning on it. I am sure I can explain what I mean but it would be much easier if you were here to show you and explain it more throughly with in person, but to explain it briefly I would say obviosly my AW R3 with the 17 at around 3.7 hz operating frequency was running the fastest (even though the fx ran close to that if not surpassing it when oc'd), but when I speak about latency I don't mean processing speed I mean mouse to screen immersion speed. And by that I mean the speed between the time you move the move and the time the screen reacts and also the polling rate. And to be fair I have experimented with many different laptops and mouses and desktops and their software but always feel this way, as if when I am behind a pc, regardless of how old or out dated it is, that I am driving a ferrari or a porsche, but when I use a laptop I feel like I am more at it whims, as if it is throttling down to control its weigh as it moves around turns all on its own, it just feels different. Like I can actively tell when I am using a pc and I can actively tell when I am on a desktop, it just feels so much more reliable, is there any truth to this? Does anyone else know why this is?

  4. Reusable crumb putty?

    Hi, I was just wondering if all the 'goop' actually works for keyboards, and other tiny cracks. If so, could you recommend me a good one? I'm Canadian and have Amazon prime; prime Canada is like Canadian Netflix :-(. I also use compressed air, and have taken apart keyboard before. This is more me asking if the stuff works and which one to buy. Thanks. :}

  6. What can you say about WD10EZEX

Hi guys. What can you say about this Western Digital Blue Internal HDD: WD10EZEX? Anyone here who already used this model? I am planning to buy 2pcs for my main boot drive and sync drive. (I don't want SSD yet because of the limited budget.) Thank you.
  7. OCZ Drives, Reliable or Not? VX500

So, I've been planning on building a new PC, I was going for a setup with SSDs only and I mentioned that I would pick the OCZ VX500 due to their High NAND Endurance and 5 Year Warranty. However, nearly every person suggested that I avoid OCZs all together, because they are faulty and tend to break... So is this a rumor or not? and does it apply to a specific model of OCZs drive or is it a quality thing with the manufacturer... If so, what are some other alternatives for the same price and with similar High NAND Endurance? mind you the system will be mostly used for graphics, editing and 3D work Here are the basic specs compared to the similarly priced 850 EVO: 850 EVO – SAMSUN VX500 - OCZ CAPACITY 500 GB 512 GB PRICE $165 - NEWEGG $155 - NEWRG MC 3D V-NAND MLC MTBF 2,000,000 HOURS 1,500,000 HOURS ENDURANCE 150 TBW 296 TBW WARRANTY 5 YEARS 5 YEARS I would like to hear everybody's opinions... Thanks & Regards,
  8. So I have multiple monitors and it seems that geforce has gotten hidden under the monitor. When I click on it to open it, I see it come in as if I am minimizing it. I can't see the window on any of my monitors. Restarting my pc does not fix the issue. I have also tried using the windows shortcut (WIN + Arrow Key) to move it onto the screen. Any ideas?
  9. Well since Nvidia forces us to download their driver is there anyway to disable it? I have two desktops with 900 series GPUs that will get this bloatware or virus what ever you prefer to name this poison! Help anyone!!! o3o *currently trying to repair the laptop but that I will manage on my own it just takes time...*
  10. So the new version of geforce experience is out and it didn't give me a choice whether I wanted to upgrade - so I did. Now that version 3.0.5.22 is the current version I have no option to rollback, it seems. So basically what's happening is when I start it literally everything goes wrong ; network errors, popups to tell me to restart it, my rig and other things not showing and eventually a complete crash with the error message following the lines of, "Something went wrong. Please restart geforce experience." and when I press the ok button - obviously - it closes. I have windows 10 home n ; this has caused multiple issues with missing things before so I'm mentioning it just incase. Thanks for any useful replies. Specs: i5 6600k @ 4.5Ghz GTX 1070 fe MSI z170a pro 16gb DDR4 hyperX fury @ 2133mhz
  11. So here I am ordering my new ZOTAC GTX 1060 6GB Mini from Amazon. I don't live in the US so I had to pay shipping fees + tax, which is well over $80. I pay for expedited shipping which is 7-10 business days, but guess what. It gets delivered on the 19th of september. I contact customer support telling them my issue and the lovely lady in customer support gives me free priority shipping, and now I receive my item on aug 29-sept 6, which is amazing!! What is your best customer support experience?
  12. I plan to mod my Corsair Carbide Spec-01 case side panel, changing it for acrylic/plexiglass. The idea came when I saw the new Phanteks cases with Tempered glass side panels. For now I made a project in photoshop, but I need advices from people who have experience with this, I need to know the thickness of the acrylic, how to mount it and how to tint it. Here's the photoshopped picture:

  14. Your No Man's Sky Experrience

Hi, I've been waiting for No Man's Sky to be released on PC but......the Steam reviews are in and they are mostly negative because the game is not working, keeps crashing or is very laggy. So what is your gameplay experience with No Man's Sky? and post your system specs and settings so others can view and compare. Thanks
  15. First pc build.

*UPDATED* So i made this pc on a norwegian website called komplett.no. It's my first pc ever made, and i'd like to ask what kind of games this could be running and at what framerate. also if it would be able to record games. anyways i have a budget of around 1500 - 2000$ (this pc is around 1300$) so if you could check it out and give me some recommendations that'd be great! Sorted out a few flaws in the pc, and i think i'm about done. Thanks for all the help and support! https://www.komplett.no/wishlists/482f9f18-9ea2-4f93-aa94-88e65bdbf365 Thanks!
  16. Note: Sorry if this is the wrong forum, couldn't decide between General Discussion and the actual motherboard section. This is the story of little bill and his quest through... the MSI RMA service of doom. Our story begins on June 1st or 2nd, 2016 (forgot exact day). bill got bored one night and decided to try overclocking his EVGA GTX 750 Ti FTW for the first time. In fact, it's his first time overclocking anything. But he got an OC wrong and ended up having his GPU get stuck around 400Mhz. He then restarts his computer and instantly gets violent flashbacks about his PC's past issues. Namely, the "Stuck on A2 at boot" issue that is common with MSI motherboards. He has encountered this issue anywhere between 4-8 times in the past year alone, and it gets worse each time. The last solution he tried was to clear the CMOS, which surprisingly worked. This time, it wasn't so simple. After days of trying, ordering new SATA cables, unplugging and replugging, etc., he declared that the motherboard was dead. On June 5, 2016, he filed an RMA request with MSI. The pain was only beginning. He mailed his [presumably] dead motherboard to MSI's RMA center in California on June 9th. An attempt to deliver it was made June 11th, but failed due to it being a Saturday. It was successfully delivered to an individual the next Monday, June 13th. The wait began. It took until June 17th, 4 days after it had arrived, to finally be scanned in. Miraculously, it jumped over the 'Arrived' stage and was instead set to 'Replacement'. "Yes," he exclaimed, "my repaired motherboard shall soon be mine!" However, the hunger had already started to settle in by now. And so, the next Tuesday, June 21st, something odd happened: the RMA status was moved back a step to 'Arrived'. Multiple calls and emails only left a non-reassuring "it says they're working on it" from MSI support. And so, on June 26th, 2016, the following email was sent to MSI: "Here is a timeline of events to give some insight on my RMA's progress: June 5, 2016 (Sun): RMA approved June 9, 2016 (Thurs): RMA shipped out from Chicagoland area to RMA center in California June 11, 2016 (Sat): RMA shipment delivery attempt made, failed due to business being closed June 13, 2016 (Mon): RMA shipment successfully delivered to individual at RMA center June 17, 2016 (Fri): RMA status set to "Replacement" June 21, 2016 (Tues): RMA status set to "Arrived" I've encountered some inconvenient yet understandable issues during the course of this timeline. They include the lengthy amount of time that my RMA took to be scanned in, the RMA status page crapping up for a day, and now the status being moved back a step. I fear that my RMA is going to be denied or something. There is only one event in the RMA log, that being the approval of the RMA itself on June 5th. I'm usually patient with these things and all, but I'm kind of dying over here being stuck on a Mac with a desktop w/o a mobo. I respect and thank MSI for warranty coverage and RMA service they provide but would like to request further information regarding the status of my board. I sincerely hope it being moved back a step isn't a big deal and is usual. Thank you." Two days later: "Dear **** I have requested a rma status update for your rma as soon as they respond back to me I will give you more information. please not it can take 5-15 business days from the time we receive it." Two hours later: "Dear **** my rma department has informed me that they are still working of this unit but should contact you shortly with more information via email." And so he waited. And waited. And then sent another email: "I have yet to receive any email. I'm really, really, really trying to remain patient, but it's now been over a month since I've been on my desktop due to my issue. I have about a week before I just go out and buy a whole new motherboard, and there's quite honestly a minuscule chance it'll be from MSI. I apologize if I sound impatient, but I simply don't want to spend the rest of my summer on a Macbook Air. Thank you." 3 days later: "I have been told they have emailed you yesterday check your junk/spam folder for that email." And so I checked. And so there was an email there, but it wasn't the one he was hoping for. "Dear customer, Same model replacement is not available. To not further delay, can we process below refund?" A mad dash to reply handed MSI this: "Yes. What steps do I need to take to process said refund, and for how much will it be?" And the magic number is...? $47.20 BUT HE DIDN'T GIVE UP! He replied to their lousy settlement with a half-cringey email: "Can the refund amount be raised to $75? I purchased the product for $149.99 retail. Obviously it's been 2 years and the value has degraded a little, but $47.20 simply isn't enough to cover for a brand new motherboard of the same quality." And so they finally replied with a defeated response: "We will compromise with $75.00" The RMA nightmare was over. But little bill still got his $75, about half of what he had paid for the motherboard originally. So, what went wrong, you ask? The long wait-times. The broken status system (that only had one event in it, that being it being approved on June 5th). The attempt to payout exactly $47.20. The worst part about it? I had even included this handcrafted letter for the MSI technicians specifically. :((( And so, little bill will not be buying MSI for his next motherboard. Your mileage may vary, as will it with any other motherboard maker. Whether or not you take this into consideration is up to you. But make no mistake, my experience cannot go unheard. And thank you to all who read the whole thing through. Let us celebrate:
  17. I got a new monitor, (LG 27UD68-P) and went into Geforce Experience to optimize my games. Everything else optimized to max or near max settings and 4K resolution except BF4 which optimized to low and 4K resolution. What gives? I turned everything back up to where it runs decently (45fps+) in game with an almost High settings setup. Does 4K really really put that much hurt to the 970 in these bigger games? On my 1080p monitor I could go ultra everything and have 50fps+ Anyone have any suggestions? Play in 2k? New card? Overlcock? I am open to overclocking it but I have no idea how to overclock GPU, becuz am skrub when I try i just crash it. EVGA SSC GTX970
  18. I have gotten 2 bsod's while gaming within the last 2 days while having shadowplay on. I do not crash or get bsod when I have shadowplay off.Anyone else experience this or know a fix?
  19. So my MSI CSM-B150M PRO-VDH ended up dying today after I attempted to wake my PC up from being asleep for about a hour. GPU fans cranked to mad and then everything shut off. Ran some basic tests and came to the conclusion that the board is completely dead. So, since I plan on RMAing it does anyone here have any experience with MSI and their RMA process? If it's terrible I'll just buy a new/different board to not deal with it.
  20. SO In A recent post of mine I was trying to find out why my Precision X16 was acting up as shown in the pictures and why geforce experience was doing the same. So I was gaming with an overclock profile and my screen went full green and the game crashed, went to Precision X and I saw the dials and numbers were messed up, reinstalled Precision X16 and it still came out blank like in the pics. also noticed Geforce Experience was acting up saying my gpu could not optimize games, even a restart of my PC didn't fix these issues, so I reinstalled my graphics drivers and it went back to normal, but I tried overclocking again, and repeat story above. WORST OF ALL was that the fan profile was gone, the fans wouldn't turn on at all... even at high temps! AND for some reason the gpu wasn't even sending a temp reading to Speccy and my AIO Cooled cpu was reaching 55c from the ambient heat from the gpu (its placed as an exhaust)!! Has anyone else had these issues with the latest Nvidia Driver 364.72 because this scared the crap out of me!
  21. Hello friends, today i got my NZXT H440 case and X61 Kraken cooler and i am very happy! My question is can anyone share his personal experience with me about shopping on Mindfactory.de, because i am gonna purchase 80% of the other parts from it. Most people from geizhals.eu write positive feedback/comments about it, but of course there are some that write things which make me really confused. Thank you in advance,Best of luck! - Redjo
  22. Today I’d like to go over a couple little adventures I’ve had recently; if you would like to read then that would be wonderful! Go ahead and dive in. Since a few days ago, I had been negotiating wtih this Indian dude about some forum software he wanted set up and tailored. He wanted this loading bar effect or that tiled category system, and I was up next to take a whack at implementing it – for $200 USD no less. Originally though I had given him an up-front quote of half that, and asked for more after reevaluating how much work I realised I’d actually be doing. Hesitantly, he obliged for the new quote, I was given SSH access, and from there we were off to the races. I was totally on my own, out in the wild, working for a cause I wasn’t invested in and didn’t care for… and I’ll tell you I’m not the type to fret over much, but boy was I a nervous wreck. There was a pile of cash on the table equating to God knows how many rupees in his country, an initial demand to demonstrate my skillset in a day’s time, and I realised after one rescheduling and a little time after then that I just wasn’t ready. I knew a lot for someone who just turned of age, but I just didn’t know enough to get the job done. I realised my limitations and sent the guy a message, apologising for the time wasted and telling him that I wouldn’t mind working together in the future. And after that, well… it clicked. Just like the years before when I’d come home from school and sit down at my PC, I was off the hook. What’s a more enjoyable—and less frightening—roller coaster ride than that whole fiasco would probably be the adventure I just wrapped up: setting up a mail server. I’d like to give some background, though: for the longest time I have been staunchly against “free” e-mail providers due to concerns for my own security and privacy (and for that same reasoning I will be avoiding Microsoft Outlook by the way), so about a year or so ago I went and talked to the admins on a forum I am now permanently banned from called the PokéCommunity. The owner hooked me up with a nice little address for myself complete with SSL/TLS and webmail access in case I’m not at my PC, and I was settled. I handed out that thing like candy for the VIPs, man. But after being banned from the forums and having my address still linger, I decided it was time to explore other options for e-mail hosting… so I turned to my now astranged friend Kristian to, uh… sell me an account, as it were. Since parting ways with him I found myself out of options, until it hit me: I am a sysadmin and webmaster myself! My uptime hasn’t been bad, so why not host my own e-mail server? Immediately after breaking loose from the deal with Mr. Indian Dude, I searched around for a quick guide to do the job on Debian Jessie. I’ll admit that things actually got pretty messy, what with some discrepancies between the Debian 8.1 that the guide used and my own Debian 8.3; in the end I had to buy a secondary IP address to give my mail server its own proper reverse DNS, but I got it working. Hooray, right? Wrong. Just kidding. It’s all well that ends well, right? What’s that about Outlook eavesdropping on me? Speaking of eavesdropping, you have probably heard about our sponsor Lenovo’s Superfish virus! And when it comes to Superfish, it’s something I could give less than a flying fuck about, because I work with ThinkPads, and uh, ThinkPads are awesome man, you should totally like go get one, like right now… yeah… …anyway, what with me not caring about crapware that comes only on PCs I don’t buy, and what with me having such a startling admiration and adoration for the legendary, born from the Gaia of IT itself, ThinkPad line of business and workstation laptop PCs, you can probably tell that I am not very much of a gamer. I mean, sure, most everyone who comes around and even sticks around this place plays games, right? Wrong. I’m here suckas, so you better learn to deal with people like me and my lack of interest in gaming, pal… but really, I actually do play some games, but they’re either so old they could run on Intel Integrated graphics from two generations ago at 1440p on max, or they’re really easy-to-render games like Minecraft that would be a lot nicer with shaders that need a discrete GPU but hey I don’t play that often anyway so I’m not complaining. Most of the things I do on a computer are work, and most of the work I do is with software development, and most of the software development I do is with… yeah. You get the picture. And you know what? I gave a valiant shot at making a “100% custom, decked-out and just-the-way-I-want-it” PC. I didn’t plan it very efficiently (though it still came out better than expected), I had a bunch of problems getting Arch Linux to run on it easily, and my biggest complaint by and large was how bulky the whole thing was! What I wanted was a small PC, that did what I needed and wasn’t wasteful, and I never really needed a ton of horsepower or anything. I wanted a middle-of-the-road workstation. And since I had decided a good bit before finishing the whole thing that I absolutely had to have a good, strong laptop for college, upon browsing for one of those I peered into what other business-grade products companies like Lenovo and Hewlett-Packard had to offer me. And I gotta tell you the truth – it was like a sign from God. I found myself with those computers. They were perfect. No, they were what I grew up with. When I first laid my eyes on real, task-oriented, hardy PCs, what I saw day in and day out at the school house were those ThinkPads. Every teacher had one. And when I got into high school, I even had one! So I knew I wanted one of those, and maybe down the road, I would even get a ThinkCentre for the family to use. It all sounded great. From then on I decided on my role and place in the community of PC enthusiasts, and I finally came to terms with what my real interests are and what my tech needs are too. Thanks for reading, have a good one! o/
  23. How is the ThinkPad Helix?

Here’s the deal: My mother loves watching movies and browsing the web, and she has a Kindle. As we all know the Kindle pretty much sucks donkey balls, and even with her its inadequacy shows well. She doesn’t want to spend more than $1,000 ($1,100 is the absolute most I can convince her to spend), and since I’ll be buying a ThinkPad Yoga for myself for collage, I wanted to bring her on board the ThinkPad train and get her something nice to replace her old laptop that I broke. What I would like to know what is, what is your knowledge and/or experience with the Helix? I don’t really care what generation it is as there’s only first and second gen made so far, but if you must know I will be buying a second-gen Helix if all goes well.
  24. Enthoo Primo owners

I've recently found myself a little disappointed with my R5, it's just super cramped inside and I miss the clean look I had with my s340. I've been thinking of transferring my main PC components to the Enthoo Primo and switching my NAS from the HAF 932 to the R5. I would have already bought the Primo if it wasn't so expensive, something just doesn't sit right paying that much for a case. Any thoughts, experiences, or opinions would be awesome. Thanks, TidaLWaveZ
  25. Give me some ideas!

Hey there! I am currently in the learning process for C# (8 years of prior programming experience in other languages, about a month in C# [see my GitHub: @SysVoid]). I am out of ideas. What could I make? If any of you lot have ideas, fun, tedious, challenging (fun!), let me know! I want to do some more algorithm work too, if you have anything for that. It's also a bonus if you're currently in university and could send me one of your project specs so that I can attempt it myself and compare it to what you have later. I've never been to university, so that'd be fun. Thanks!
