I am using a mid-2012 13" Unibody MacBook Pro, running OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), and my system has 8 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM, an Intel Core i7 processor, and the original 500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Disk Drive (yuck). Pretty standard, outdated setup. I recently purchased a brand new 1 TB Samsung EVO 870 SSD to clone my HDD to and replace for a substantial speed and storage upgrade. Currently, my 500 GB HDD has about 400 GB of content on it. I formatted the SSD in Disk Utility, using the "OS X Extended (Journaled)" Format, and the "GUID Partition Map" Scheme. Then I cloned my HDD to the SSD using Disk Utility in Recovery Mode, and then I opened up the MacBook Pro, unplugged the battery, and swapped out the drives. I plugged the battery cable back in, put the back cover back on, and booted up. It worked, but it was suspiciously slow. I would get the Spinning Beach Ball in between clicks, and the overall responsiveness actually seemed worse than with the ancient HDD. When I logged in, all my Menu Bar icons and Desktop icons loaded more quickly than with the HDD, but I was still getting the Beach Ball when I would click on things like the Logo. (I actually opened Spotify by mistake and was happy to see that it actually loaded everything in a few seconds, instead of a few minutes.) I also noticed that my Superdrive (CD/DVD drive) was making odd clicking noises, almost as if the laser reader thought there was a disc loaded into it. And at one point my fans revved up for a second. My CPU performance looked like a square wave, where for a moment it would be maxed out, then nothing, then maxed out, then nothing. My Disk performance didn't seem to indicate that the SSD was doing anything in the moment that I was looking at it. I attached pictures for reference, and I posted an Unlisted video on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/ALy6oZ1AIg0. After seeing these mixed results, I restarted the computer, in case the first bootup happened to be a bit more rough than future bootups. It took roughly five minutes of my laptop sitting on the gray screen for it to actually get through the restart to the login screen. When I logged in, the same weirdly laggy behavior continued. It's like the SSD is faster... when it feels like it. I'm confused. Is the 870 series too new for the mid-2012 MacBook Pro? Or are there drivers I need to install? Maybe I need a new hard drive cable? Or maybe 1 TB is "too large" for my MacBook to handle? Or did I seriously manage to zap the SSD with electrostatic while I was handling it? I did my best to keep myself grounded at all times by touching the aluminum case of the MacBook periodically, and I touched the SSD only when I needed to (while, of course, avoiding the metal contacts on the SSD). I would consider myself a tech enthusiast, but I am a musician and a music teacher first, so I'm sure there is something I'm missing. Quite possibly something basic or simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! I need some help. I would like to build a watercooled PC. I already got the components, which are as follows: -dual MSI SuprimX 3090 -Threadripper 3970x -Zenith II Alpha Extreme -Corsair AX1600i -G.Skill Trident Z Neo 256GB 3600 Now, I don't know which house to pick. I like the design of the Lian Li O11D family, but confused about EVO or XL. EVO would be better, since I have more space on the left side of my desk, but the XL would be better for cooling overall, as I am told. My question is: with this configuration, components, would the O11D EVO be able to cool down the GPUs and CPU sufficiently? Mind you, I would like to use it as a mine when not rendering, editing or running bioinformatic softwares. Would I face overheating issues? What radiators could fit best in a case like this? I saw that the EVO can support really thick radiators on the side and on top, but I am cinserned about the bottom radiator, since there are two 3090s taking space from it, reducing its thickness. Can it be done? How loud would it be? How cool could it get, and how noisy would it be? The two cards consume around 780-800W when mining. Plus the Threadripper, is that a 1000-1100 TDP? Detailed answers or any help would be much appriciated! THank you!

Hello, when my ssd is under load, it spikes up to 1000 ms response time, normal? When im using it normal, its from 0 to 5ms, but a bit higher load sometimes causes above mentioned. And i have one more question thats bothering me, i needed to format my USB stick using cmd (from RAW to NTFS or FAT32 not sure) and it was doing fine, until i forgot i was formatting it and put my laptop to sleep, when it woke up, the USB was doing nothing (cmd was formatting it), and something was written to the ssd about 6MBps constantly until the USB? formatting finished. I had to foramt my usb again because the first time it didnt do anything. And the response time could be even higher if my CPU supported more than 40k iops? Right? I can record a video if you need it.

Yes yes yes, i know i have an old computer and yes im looking in to upgrading when prices go down a bit more. I made my system in late 2015 so i think it was decent at the time. But since i bought it it was always running a bit hotter than i would have liked, my cpu (FX-8350) was regularly running at over 80c when gaming more demanding games with a CoolerMaster 212 EVO. I looked in to the subject a bit and learned that the fx-8350 likes to run hot and that its normal, but looking at much more powerful new cpus from intel and amd i cant imagine that 80c+ temp on an older cpu with a good cooler are normal. I dont have an overclock, i have 4 case fans generating positive air pressure inside the case, room is well ventilated. I'm trying to figure out if my situation is really normal or not, and is there a cheap fix since i dont want to invest in an old system.

This document is a summary of the issue and troubleshooting I have done. I will also attach system information files, event viewer errors and disk info files. Original error/problem: This is an abridged story but the key details are included. I bought some new Samsung 2TB 970 evo plus NVME SSDs and I installed them to my PC. I was playing Star Wars battlefront 2 2017 from those new drives, and when loading a new character to play the character did not load. I tried to respawn and then none of the characters would load, the game would still run though. I quit the game and tried to load it again, but it would not launch. I was confused why and restarted my PC. The problem went away, and I started to play again, but the same issue occurred. I then got concerned and ran a CHKDSK on the D: drive, which turned out fine. The problem continued and then I proceeded to reinstall windows. After installation of the OS and my games, the error still occurred. I restarted the PC again and left disk management open while I was playing and then when the error happened again. I saw that the disk became uninitialized in disk management and after a restart it was fine again. No data was corrupted, and no data was lost. I downloaded Samsung magician to scan the SSDs for any sector errors and that also turned out fine. I switched the drives around in their M.2 Slots and the same error occurred. I finally gave in and bought a new motherboard (MSI Board). The errors still happened on that motherboard, so I reinstalled windows again. STILL didn’t fix it. So, I called in the powers of RMA and got a replacement MSI motherboard and both Samsung SSDs. Brand new drives and another brand new mother later, I thought Ill just run them all as separate drives, C:, D:, and E:. but when I go to play the game on a new installation, the issue still occurs. I am completely lost, and I’ve tried all my troubleshooting ideas. I don’t know if it’s a CPU/PCIe lanes issue, or a Windows issue, or what. Here’s a list of what I have tried: · New hardware · Reinstall windows (about 5 times total) · Zeroing out the drives · Switching drive slots Next steps? I am starting to think that it is something to do with my amount of PCIe lanes/devices. I have never really understood it and would like to learn more. But any suggestions would be amazing, thank you all in advance. Hello guys. So this morning i bought a brand new Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB SSD and i saw that the temperature in idle goes up to 45c is that normal for this SSD because my old SSD (it was a Western Digital one i can't remember the exact model right now but it was a 120gb m.sata) was idleing at about 29-33c.

Is it normal for a SSD to drop to 98% health after 1yr 6months usage? This is my OS drive so I dont need its backup. Plus I have 10% of the ssd space as over provisioned.

Hi, I use my 850 EVO as my Windows 10 Boot Drive. Randomly turned on my PC and it won't boot windows. It goes straight into BIOS. THE 850 EVO isn't shown in the BIOS. I have tried different cables and ports and no luck. I have tried a USB caddy and plugging it in my Brother's PC and it's won't show. I then connected it straight to the motherboard and loaded into BIOS and the following happens, https://youtu.be/KNBcAse2VFk I was all set to RMA this and cope with losing my data. Yes, I'm one of those idiots who didn't back up. But now that my brother's machine is seeing it somewhat then I have a tiny little piece of hope. Does anyone have any ideas? The plan is to RMA this device but now there's the tiniest bit of hope, I want to see about getting data off the drive before sending it off to Samsung. Tldr: Isn't recognised by my PC. Plugged into my brother's PC and flashes up before going into BIOS but isn't recognised any further.

Hello everyone! Today I bought a Samsung EVO 850 series 500GB SSD. And for some reason I cannot find it anywhere. I've tried to find it in cmd diskpart. Disk management and everything. I've even tried to find it with The Samsung Migration software. Nothing. I'm using a hard drive dock from work. It's working I even tried other hard drives. Ive tried to change the USB cable and everything. I'm running out of options. I need help from you people! Seriously! This has actually happend to me before when I bought an Kingston SSD like 3-4 years ago. Then I used diskpart in cmd, found it there but now i can't find anything! With best regards. Anton from Iceland. You can also contact me via email at: antondadi29@gmail.com Thanks everyone!

Something seems wrong with my CPU or my heatsink. I currently have my i7 4790k cooled by a Hyper 212 EVO at 4.4Ghz and the maximum tempearutes are between 70~75C° on FULL load (20~ min rendering in Blender CPU) , they seem fine to me, the problem is when i try to increase the Ghz by 0.1 the maximum temperatures go up by 25~30C° while rendering the same frame in just under a minute, reaching 100C° and then throttling. Can someone help me to know better what is going on. •I used the thermal paste that came with the heatsink •i used the line method •I cleaned the heatsink and made sure it was well attached

Sup folks, Title says it all, really. Is the 850 PRO worth the extra 40 bucks compared to the 850 EVO? What are the differences? I'll mostly be using it for Windows OS and some basic programs like Steam (not the games themselves), Word, etc. Thanks in advance! Regards, TJ

So, what are the advantages of the 212 PRO over the EVO? Anyone know? Also, is the double fan worth it?

I purchased a Samsung 960 Evo. What exactly does this make better?

I have the MSI M7 gaming motherboard and a couple months ago I installed a M.2 Samsung 960 evo 500GB which I've installed windows 10 on and it's been working fine since then. However, I had to reset the bios settings after a failed overclock and now it doesn't recognise the SSD again. I've unplugged my other hard drive and older SSD and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Logged

So in a few months or so i intend to upgrade to this build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/nrKwZ8 I am happy with the parts, the price and the performance considering i do both gaming and lots of graphical and motion editing. The only problem is for whatever reason the motherboard (Asus PRIME X370-PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard) is not compatible with the CPU cooler (Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler). It says on the site "The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler may require a separately available mounting adapter to fit the Asus PRIME X370-PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard" I am very new to PC builds and components and honestly i had no idea there was such a thing as a "mounting adapter" beforehand. If someone could link me to the correct mounting adapter or change the build so that there are no problems, please keep in mind i DO NOT want water cooling, that would be great! Thank you.
