Summary ESL has run about 80% of all high tier tournaments in CS since 2020. ESL is the parent company of DreamHack and ESEA, while FaceIt is one of their 2 competitors. FaceIt is the platform that best competes with ESEA in most of the world. They were both purchased by Savvy Gaming Group, which is backed by the Saudi Arabian Sovereign Wealth Fund. They claim they will begin providing stipends to "up and coming" players to foster competitive play. Quotes My thoughts This, clearly, is an attempt at washing the Saudi Arabian Government's image. However, I don't think the current path of Esports' growth would've been sustainable, without literally throwing away money with no plan to see any financial ROI. As someone who used to be fairly involved with the low-mid tier competitive scene, I think this will be a good thing, since more prize pools and better servers is always a good thing. However, I think this can potentially lead to the Esports scene becoming even more franchised than it currently is. I wouldn't be too shocked if we see similar funds start buying stakes in teams, raising questions of conflict of interest, which have plagued the scene for years. Additionally, I'd raise questions regarding ESL's plans for a Woman's League, and whether talent who are vocal about Saudi Arabia's Human Rights Abuses (among other things...) will be "uninvited" from events they host. I expect we may see Valve take a stance towards this near monopoly. I'm not too familiar with Dota's circuit, but I know ESL was involved with it a few years ago as well. As someone who follows the Finance Side, the $1.5B deal is absolutely massive. Fairly sure this is the largest M&A in Esports. This is fake news. Sorry for the inconvenience this article has caused. To read more, please go to this article from Info Wars: https://www.infowars.com/exclusive-buzzfeed-tricked-into-publishing-fake-news-story/ Is this a right move for ESL? Or is this complete nonsense? Update from ESL Partner: Source: https://pvplive.net/c/csgo-players-barred-from-esl-tournament-transgender and http://www.anykey.org/esports-for-all-women/ Edit: As @Energycore has requested, I changed the title to "ESL not allowing transgender CSGO players into female only tournament" and I also added response from ESL's partner.

So apparently Minecraft PvP (player versus player) will be competitive in 2017. A Minecraft server called Badlion has been working together with ESL since last December. Quote: Badlion has always been a community-focused platform with a commitment to providing the best competitive Minecraft experience, even since the early days when the server had a very small population. Archy and myself both come from competitive gaming backgrounds and as Badlion has grown, so have our ambitions for this game and its community. The past few months have been extremely hectic for us from a management and development perspective. We have been working very closely with ESL's office in the US and internationally for the past few months as we originally talked about here: https://www.badlion.net/forum/thread/129479. We have now finalized our combined future roadmap together and are super excited to share that future today with the Minecraft community. Since the start of this initial partnership, our team has been hard at work creating the next level of competitive Minecraft gaming. It is my pleasure to reveal all the hardwork and dedication the Badlion team has been focused on, we are sorry it has felt slow recently but we have been focused on some BIG things. We have spent the past 8 months planning and building something new for Badlion and Minecraft. So, what is this new Badlion/Minecraft product? For those of you who are not familiar with the company, ESL is the largest independent esports company in the world and hosts massive events like Intel Extreme Masters and ESL One, operates Pro Leagues across some of the biggest titles including Counter-Strike, Halo, and others, and hosts online tournaments across dozens of games a year on ESL Play and using their automated game and recently Xbox and PlayStation integrations. Turtle Entertainment Online is the subsidiary company of ESL that we are working with and operate another product similar to Badlion called ESEA. ESEA is a premium service for Counter Strike: Global Offensive that strives to provide a cheat free environment, premium matchmaking services, as well as competitive leagues for all skill levels in CS:GO. The league is similar to the soccer leagues that exist in the UK with many divisions and teams who participate. We are looking to bring a similar service to Minecraft. So I watch most of the ESL CS:GO games on their twitch channel (after the fact, very rarely I get to watch live). And I notice that some of the players run CS:GO in 4:3 mode. Is there a specific reason and/or advantage to running in 4:3 instead of 16:9? Or is it just a preference thing?

Cloud 9 and Virtus.Pro are coming to Melbourne Australia, along with many other teams for the first ESL tournament in Australia. They will be playing for a prize pool of $55,555 Australian Dollars. Yes, this is an ESL tournament so expect it to be on twitch.tv world wide. I can't wait, I live close to Melbourne and will definitely be going to support my favourite team, Cloud 9! https://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/entertainment/live-theatre/counter-strike-invitational EDIT: Lots more information on the reddit post about this. www.goo.gl/oS3tGb

Once again Fnatic come out on top of another CSGO event. In my opinion the NA teams played really well at this event and showed the EU teams that they can perform against the best. The overall score was 3-1 to Fnatic. More Info here: http://www.hltv.org/news/15371-fnatic-win-esl-esea-season-1-finals

This might be the kind of software bug most likely to kill someone.” carmakers have had ample time to work to secure their systems as a team of researchers from the University of Washington and University of California San Diego showed that they could wirelessly disable the locks and brakes on a sedan back in 2011 “The regulators and the industry can no longer count on the idea that exploit code won’t be in the wild. They’ve been thinking it wasn’t an imminent danger you needed to deal with. That implicit assumption is now dead.” - Stefan Savage, UCSD comp sci professor Uconnect computers are linked to the Internet through Sprint’s cellular network, which allows other Sprint devices to talk to them Miller demonstrated scanning for target vehicles in his 3G network on a burner phone connected to his laptop and acquiring GPS coordinates, VIN numbers, and IP addresses of each car by doing so Miller and Valasek ranked the Jeep Cherokee as the most hackable car, with Cadillac’s Escalade and Infiniti’s Q50 coming in 2nd and 3rd estimated to be as many as 471,000 vehicles on the road with vulnerable Uconnect systems in the US US congress is now working to have the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Federal Trade Commision set new standards and create privacy and security ratings for consumer automobiles US Senator Markey (one of the leads on the new security legislation) sent a letter to 20 automakers, asking them a seies of questions about security practices, the answers to which showed “a clear lack of appropriate security measures to protect drivers against hackers who may be able to take control of a vehicle.” only seven of sixteen respondents said they hired independent security firms to test their vehicles’ digital security, and only two said their vehicles had monitoring systems that checked their CAN (car’s internal network) networks for malicious digital commands important takeaway is not that Jeeps are more vulnerable than other vehicles, but that all modern vehicles could be vulnerable to a hack closing statement from the hackers “We shut down your engine—a big rig was honking up on you because of something we did on our couch. This is what everyone who thinks about car security has worried about for years. This is a reality.” Fiat issues software patch after hackers take over car Source 1: linustechtips.com/fiat-issues-software… OP: Suika Source 2: timesofindia.indiatimes.com/fiat-issues-software… Wednesday this patch was released for some internet-connected vehicles direct result of the hack on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee “Fiat Chrysler claimed no first-hand knowledge of any of its vehicles being hacked and released a statement saying that software updates are sometimes required ‘for improved security protection to reduce the potential risk of unauthorized and unlawful access to vehicle systems.’” Chrysler to recall 1.4 million vehicles after remote hijack bug found Source 1: linustechtips.com/chrysler-to-recall-14-million… OP: Alexp10v2 Source 2: theverge.com/chrysler-announces… voluntary recall 1.4 million vehicles affected affected cars include Dodge Vipers, Ram trucks, Jeep Cherokees and Grand Cherokees, Dodge Durangos, Chrysler 200 & 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger Chrysler owners can enter their VINs at a provided website to check if their vehicle is included in the recall no need to take your car to a dealership, they provide you with the patch on a USB drive (can’t receive over the air security updates like the Model S) with that said, Chrysler says they have taken “network-level security measures to prevent the type of remote manipulation” demonstrated this week Chris Valasek (one of the hackers), Tweeted “Looks like I can’t get to Charlie’s Jeep from my house via my phone. We were all on Adderall.” Adderall is a psychostimulant used to treat ADHD Adderall and similar drugs have been pervasive in FPS games like Quake and Counter Strike for many years (especially in North America), according to industry sources there was a lot of backlash from the community, and using drugs such as Adderall for performance enhancement is against the ESL One rulebook ESL is making changes due to these comments and the community reaction “The Industry of our sport is and always will be our biggest concern,” said their head of communications. “When we first saw [Friesen's comments], we focused immediately on kickstarting a policy-making process and adjusting the rules. We have worked on changes in our rules, reached out to authorities for support, and will be ready to announce our next steps in a couple of days.” working with national and world drug organizations to make sure they have policies in place that make sense for testing players “We're taking the steps to level with traditional sports, and it's going to take a while before any esports organization will administer regular drugs tests. We hope to speed this process up by proactively seeking advice from authorities and starting small. In about 24 hours from this post ESL One cologne will commence as another valve funded CSGO major. Coming fresh of G3 where in CSGO saw Virtus.Pro back on championship form after what seemed like an unstoppable Dignitas. The 2nd placers, Titan, also seemed renewed with the previous 3 months fairing poorly for the french-belgian team, putting good run through to the finals beating the likes of a new Fnatic and ESEA s16 and s15 champions iBuyPower (who have beaten Titan in the finals of ESEA s15). Dignitas were unseen for the past few months seeing as they were on holiday, but with this G3 performance, they reminded everyone of how much of a threat they still can be. The biggest shocker of all was for sure NiP's performance. With the loss of this tournament, losing 2-0 to Dignitas and a poor group stage that they barely made it through, this will be the 2nd time that NiP has placed outside of top 4, the first being ESEA s16. Now coming into ESL One, the big questions are: Is the era of NiP's dominance over the game in terms of consistency over? Will VP maintain their form and take another CSGO major as well as being the first team to win two majors? Can Titan reclaim their former glory and secure their placing as the top 4 in the world again? Is this the first major that an American team might win? All those questions will be answered in time to come. This will be one heck of tournament. So, who are you rooting for and why?
