I've been experiencing a perplexing issue with my HP Envy 15 (es1000ny) laptop, The main problem is that my laptop screen refuses to turn on. Here are the details of the issue: Flickering on Boot: Initially, when booting up, the screen would flicker briefly but then remain completely black. I used to resolve this problem by opening and closing the laptop lid multiple times, sometimes just a few times, and other times it took 15 or more attempts. However, as of yesterday, the screen has stopped displaying anything altogether. Power cycling works: When I turn the laptop on and off numerous times - sometimes it will start working normally. Without touching the lid or anything. Yet after rebooting - it stops working. Consistency Across Systems: The issue persists across all states, whether I'm in the BIOS, running Windows, or using Linux. It simply refuses to show any sign of life on the screen. Odd Behavior: What's even more perplexing is that I noticed that, even when the laptop screen didn't work, I could boot into Windows and set up an external monitor to duplicate the displays. Surprisingly, the touchscreen remained functional, allowing me to move things around on the invisible screen. Failed Display Cable Troubleshooting: I've attempted to resolve the issue by fiddling with the display cable and reconnecting it to the motherboard, but this hasn't changed anything.

I am trying to replace the psu in a prebuilt HP envy TE01-0034 as it's only 180w. I already have a spare cx650m and I know that it isn't compatible out of the box, however I do know that you may solder the 24 pin connector into a smaller 4 pin (as this desktop is powered with 2 4 pins as opposed to a 24 pin) I just am not entirely sure where to start, I have all the tools to do so and I'm up to taking on the challenge. I'm aware that there is no back current protection while doing this so I understand the risks as well. If anyone knows where to start it would be appreciated. ~ MFGoon

I've been thinking about the Hp envy with the 3700u and vega 10 graphics, but the 4th gen was just announced and iy seems much better. Much more efficient and more cores. The price ofcourse would be more expensive so I'd be looking at a ryzen 5 instead of a ryzen 7 but 6 cores 6 threads seems betther than 4 and 8. Maybe even the ryzen 5 in the enby would have SMT. I'm planning on engineering and I want the laptop for uni and personal use, and since uni is 5 years here I want something to last as long as possible both durability wise and tech wise (to not he outdated). Don't think I'll need a very powerful laptop especially since I have a pc with 3700x and GTX 1060. Should I wait for 4th gen or will it not matter for my case? I am also concerned about availability and price since the envy laptops suffer from both here in my country (and most ulrabooks and convertibles too). The most demanding work I believe would be on autocad, fusion and inventor. Should I wait? TL;DR: want to buy an envy but don't know if I should buy the 3rd gen ryzen mobile one or wait for the 4th gen. Planning to use it for uni for things like autocad, fusion, inventor and other non demanding student stuff. I have a good spec pc and don't know if I need or will benefit from the next gen. Should I wait?

Hello, I have an Hp Envy TouchSmart 15 (15-j184na) and after a windows installation, on one of its reboots, the laptops screen doesn't come on, the fans and hdd run but nothing on the screen. The Caps Lock key started flashing twice and hp support said it is a bios error. I tried flashing the bios with an usb drive but nothing, I took the CMOS battery out and still nothing. Now the caps lock key dosen't flash anymore. I tried an external monitor to see if it is the display and still nothing. If you have any suggestions on where to go from here please let me know. Thank you.

I'm going to upgrade my graphics card to msi gtx 1060 gaming x and I'm worried that it doesn't fit or my psu isn't capable of handling the amount of power. My Specs: i7-4790 2TB HDD 16GB Ram Motherboard is Memphis 2-S I know that my pc is dusty but i will clean it when i get the gtx 1060 It says that total power can't exceed 420w but max power is 500w. So is 420w or 500w the max watt limit? Here's my gtx 745 and the msi gtx 1060 gaming x is almost 2 times bigger than this graphics card That gtx 1060 should be so long that it will be under my disk drive so is that a problem? Thanks for your help

HELP? what cooling pad do i need for my laptop
Guest posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hi everyone, I have been using my laptop for a while now and i game quite alot on it. Everytime i play games it constantly runs at high temperatures and the cpu can literally run at temperatures so high, it can boil water. Anyway, im my laptop specs are (important stuff) hp envy j151sa AMD A10-5750m Radeon HD 8650G + 8750M Dual Graphics 2*4gb, 1600 samsung ram. 1tb i listed all but half it dont really matter, The important thing is that my cpus max temperature is 105' degrees, and when im playing games like overwatch and csgo, it has gotten to 101' degrees and stopped performing well. The laptop fan is constantly on and loud so im not too bothered about the noise as long as its not too loud. I just want a cooler so that it wont reach temperatures of 100 degrees, i would be happy with 80' degrees tbh, thanks. -
Background Coming from a laptop that was as thick as a Nokia Brick, I was looking to get a new laptop for my new adventure into University this September. So I was basically coming from a laptop with the following specs: Intel Pentium T4400 - Utter Crap 3Gb of RAM - Utter Crap 1024 x 768 15" screen Basically no battery Looks Unboxing this was a dream! Trying to contain myself by opening the charger, which got me even hyped! The charger was HP's new sleek "HP fast charge" adaptor - that had a small glossy brick. Getting to the laptop itself and taking the plastic wrapping off revealed the all metal build HP Envy 13. This laptop was a stunner! (which looks like it says 'lip') Opening the laptop leveals the glossy QHD Screen in a gloss finish, and also a trackpad that was way bigger than my old one (around iphone 6 size trackpad). And looking at the back shows the best part, the metal strip on the lid that when lifted, pushes down on the table to provide greater clearance beneath to allow the thin laptop some air to breath. Only criticism is that the laptop resembles Apple's Macbook line up, or Macbook Air, whatever who cares about Macbooks! lol Screen The screen was amazing! Before buying the laptop I did some research on the QHD screen on a 13 inch laptop and saw that many people didn't see the point in it. However I did! In the windows settings when set on the QHD resolution it was so crispy, and when set on 1080p it was noticeable and ruined the experiance. The gloss finish on the laptop seemed okay at first but when sitting directly opposite a window the reflection was somewhat annoying. The bezels on the Envy seem large at first, however being the weird person I am, I like it! When trying the Dell XPS 13 out prior to buying this laptop I found that the bezels being so thin was a distraction. Keyboard BEST KEYBOARD EVER! The keys were perfect! From the keytravel to the spacing all was perfect. The function keys took a bit of getting used to and the half size keys of the up & down arrow keys. Battery Life This is when it gets a little bad. During the day when browsing the web, some coding and some SSH'ing I was getting around 6 hours out of it. I don't know if this is what is expected, someone let me know! Lets hope it lasts during University lol After 2 Weeks I kind of noticed at the start when using the laptop, that it wouldn't sit level on my table, nor any other table. So I reached out to HP which told me "Why the hell would you get us to fix it! You have a 30 day returns with Microsoft! So go get a new laptop!" So thats what I did, now I'm just waiting on my replacement If anyone has any questions regarding the HP Envy 13" 2016 ab008na just let me know!

Update: Dec 18, 2017 Visit the Typing Test and try! Update: Nov 27, 2017 Due to lack of any documentation when this review was made, there is a misinformation about the location of the memory module. The memory module is not on the underside of the motherboard, it's actually beneath the silver cover, next to the M.2 slot. Original content TLDR version is at the very bottom. HP Envy x360, part of their premium line, is offered with a variety of specifications to choose from. They come with both AMD or Intel based processors, up to 16GB of DDR4 memory on selected models, 1080P IPS display, a solid state drive, including PCIe NVMe, and a mechanical hard drive. The stock configuration just provides the essential specs to get by, but it can also be customzied to your liking such as having a 4K display, combo based storage like SSD+HDD, or opting for a dedicated graphics. On the AMD side, HP only offers the FX line up with a Dark Ash color design, and on the Intel side, you get both 7th or 8th gen in a Natural Silver finish. Comparing the two different color designs, the Dark Ash does look nicer, but for Intel based platforms, there is no choice but to get in Natural Silver. Encountering the laptop, it immediately attracts you towards it, with is sleek design and beauty. While at it, opening up your visual senses, letting you know on what a proper good looking laptop should look like. When closed the laptop profile is quite thin measuring at just 0.77 inches, of course not ultrabook thin, but still thin enough, that it should fit into most laptop carrying case with room to spare for your other laptop accessories. Now even though it's not ultrabook thin, it's still good to have a bit of space in it, allowing internal components to have some breathing room, and not have it sandwiched all together. The built quality is extremely solid, as there is almost no sag or flex towards the screen or keyboard, all thanks to the use of a aluminum chassis. Opening the screen can be achieved with the lift of a finger, where its 360 degrees geared hinge, users can go from laptop to tablet, for when your on the move, stand, while watching your favorite shows or movies, and tent mode during game play or presentation. The screen itself also supports 10 point touch, as well as Windows Ink. With the supported Windows Ink pen, users can start showing their artistic drawing skills, highlight websites, or jot down reminders, and save them for later on. The pen runs on a single quadruple A battery and it's quite good. When using the pen, under the Windows Ink workspace, it comes in two modes, pen and free hand. In pen mode, only the pen input gets registered allowing users to rest their hand on the screen, just like as using a real pen and paper. In free hand mode, only your hand input gets registered, and not the pen. Typing on it feels nice as well, with the low profile keys, which results in less travel distance until it registers a key stroke. Based on personal typing test, the result came in at 81 words per minutes. The keyboard has backlit keys and a number pad on the side. Now some may not like the number pad, cause of the physical size limit of this laptop, to type comfortably, you'll need to sacrifice your viewing experience by place the laptop slightly to one side. The screen included by standard has a maximum resolution of 1920x1080, but with their Micro Edge display, it gives it somewhat a more immersive experience as you'll hardly notice the thin black bezels that surrounds the screen. Viewing angles are extremely good too, up to 180 degrees, with no color shifts, all due to their use of a IPS panel. The webcam is nice as well, with support up to 1920x1080 of video recording resolution at 30FPS, as well as the dual IR beams, for Windows Hello, for those that want to use their face as their security login. On to connectivity, there is a total of 3 usb 3.1 gen 1 ports, with one of them being type C, that also supports display port 1.2 via a adapter, no thunderbolt 3. 2 of the usb ports also has sleep and charge. A combo microphone / headphone jack is also present as well as a standard size SD card reader, and a HDMI 2.0 port capable of driving 4K at 60Hz. There is no ethernet port on this laptop due to its thin profile, so anyone that needs one, will have to settle with a adapter. Other things it has is a power button with built in led, hdd status led, volume rocker, and charging port also with a LED indicator. Using the different modes features on this laptop with its 360 degrees geared hinge. Laptop mode was your standard laptop experience, nothing too special about it. Both Stand and Tent mode offers similar expereience, and is only useful when running programs or games that supports touch screen functionality. Out of the these 2 modes, tent mode is the better option, because the speakers and keyboard will not literally become the bottom based of the laptop and get covered up or scratched by the surface it's put on. Tablet mode with the windows ink is a neat feature, you get to walk around holding a unique pen, while writing on the screen, like you're at the forefront of technology. But this awesome status of yours, is short lived, due to the laptop's physical size and weight of 4.75 pounds, your arms will get tired really quick. Anyone that will need to use their laptop constantly in tablet mode for work or school, will have to look at those with less weight, and with a screen size of 13.3 inch or less. When transitioning from laptop to any other modes, you'll need to pay close attention to where you're holding it because, there is a great chance a program or important document can be accidentally closed off due to the laptop's thin bezel. Speakers by BANG & OLUFSEN sounds pretty good. The track pad is decent, click buttons is a bit on loud side, and battery life is average. At 100% charge, using it for web browsing and other non intensive task, it last about 5 to 6 hours. Charging it back up to near full capacity takes around 1 hour or so, with the use of their built in HP fast charge. One feature that wasn't stated on their site or product page is whether the battery has their built in Smart technology, which stops charging once the battery reaches full capacity, to prevent from over charging and reducing the battery's life span, and to prevent from constantly plug and unplug the charger, increasing the chances of breaking it. They do have a web page with a explanation on this technology, but doesn't specify which models supports this feature. On some of the competing laptop vendors, it comes with a windows utility that let's you know for sure, if you have this feature not, and can also be disable for those that don't want to use it. Upgrading components on this laptop can be accessed by opening up the bottom panel cover, where it reveals the internal components. But the amount of user accessible upgrade is extremely limited. The only components that can be swapped out are the storage drives and battery. All other components will require further disassembly of the laptop just to reach them. To save yourself from this hassle, just go with the highest specs you can get, within your price range. At stock configuration, this specific HP Envy x360 is equipped with a Intel 8th gen Core i5 based on the Kaby Lake-R architecture, with Intel HD graphics, a total of 8GB DDR4 2400MHz, 1TB HDD @7200rpm, and Windows 10 Home Edition 64bit. Benchmark and performance results is perform on a customize version of this laptop, that has a Intel 8th gen Core i5 4C/8T @1.6GHz with Intel HD graphics + Nvidia MX150 graphics with dedicated 4GB of GDDR5 vram. Intel 120GB SATA SSD, and Windows 10 Professional 64bit. All other specification is exactly the same as the stock configuration. Because of the limited capacity of the SSD, all games are running off the external 1TB HDD and everything else is running off the SSD. All are running at stock settings, since there is no overclocking on this laptop. First up on the list is Cinebench R15, a popular cpu benchmark, to see how well the cpu performs Next up are some synthetic benchmarks. The benchmark settings are as follows 3DMark Fire Strike for High Performance PC at 1920x1080, DirectX 11 3DMark Time Spy Extreme at 2560x1440, DirectX 12 Unigine Valley at 1920x1080 High settings, DirectX 11 Unigine Superpositon at 1920x1080 Medium settings, DirectX mode Here is PCMark8 Next up LuxMark Time for some gaming benchmarks. Numbers are in Frames Per Second (FPS). Some games are frame capped and those without mentioning of what quality its running at, means those games don't offer those settings. Now for some real world benchmarks Temperature Price starts out at msrp of $720 dollars for the AMD FX platform and Intel 8th gen stock configuration is just $10 dollars more, starting at $730 dollars. The pen cost $60 dollars for models that does not come included. Some models can be customized by selecting the list of parts that can be choose from. There are different series these laptops, so pay close attention to the model you want, because the physical appearance and design are different from one another. HP Envy line of laptop has always been about having premium quality parts without breaking the bank, and the HP Envy x360 seems to have meet this goal, by giving users a premium looking laptop, with a reasonable price tag. So if your out there currently look for a laptop, then consider checking out the HP Envy x360. Note: This review has no association or is a sponsor from Hewlett Packard, HP. The laptop is a personal purchase. Pen is awesome, lets you write on the screen as if you're actually writing on a piece of paper Speaker sounds nice Display has good viewing angles Really good build quality

Hello LTT forums, I have HP Envy x360 with 2500u ( 15m-bq121dx ) which gives me plenty of early adapter tax lately. I wanted to update to Adrenaline 2020 today since I read good things about it (FREE FPS) and honestly I hoped for a tiny performance boost while playing WoW or HoTS and get rid of some BSODs related to display driver. So I began with simply clicking update button. After updating, my task manager showed like 40% CPU and GPU usage by Adrenaline but I did not care at first. After testing in HoTS I was pretty happy with the outcome. But then my fans would be blowing all the time and it was annoying while browsing web (only like 4 chrome tabs). So I started my investigation. I read somewhere that clean install would probably solve the issue, so I did just that (I did use AMDCleanupUtility) in safe mode and then installed drivers again. It solved the issue, great! Now to the problem part. While browsing through Adrenaline I found something odd. My Freesync was gone - apparently drivers for the screen itself were deleted during clean install (my guess). I tried to reinstall HP provided drivers but my display is no longer FreeSync compatible. Windows sees my display as "Generic PNP display" and I can not update drivers for it. HP Support assistant does not provide anything that could solve the issue, but I will try their diagnostic tool (I am THAT desperate). This is my 1st VRR panel and I really loved it, I don't want to go back Q_Q My question is: Is there any way of solving this issue without factory reset ? Will factory reset even work? I am asking because I bought this PC as an refurbished and upgraded unit (more RAM and m.2) from a third party seller and I am not sure if everything will work. I spent some time trying to figure it out, but without luck. This is honestly first time I am asking for any IT help in my life (apart from work, where I can't do anything on my own since I do not work in IT). Have a great day everyone!

So I came across this problem after I bought a new laptop. The trackpad works fine most of the time but if I move the mouse cursor a tiny bit, and quite fast, it jumps back to the previous position and registers the gesture as a tap and the cursor "clicks". I've tried different drivers, and dug through all of the trackpad settings I could find but to no success. I'll attach a GIF showing how it looks. I'm using an HP Envy X360 13-ag0804no running on Windows 10 Home. The trackpad is a Synaptics SMBus ClickPad. It's probably just a simple setting I haven't found yet but does anyone know why the cursor behaves like this?

awhile back i posted asking for help in finding some old voodoo envy laptops for my personal collection (seen in this post here: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/947519-voodoo-envy-hunt/), and now i've actually come across a couple that you might enjoy! the white u:703 unit was in pretty rough shape, requiring a new motherboard, memory, processor, and video card. i filled in all the cracks with epoxy and super glue to give it some of its structural integrity back. i was able to get a donor sager d900t unit to help in fixing it up. it took awhile and a lot of work to get it to the state its in now. the green one is the special one. it's a true holy grail of computing. these big units use a clevo m59k/m59ke chassis, and they are normally seen in black (alienware & eurocom) and silver (sager). Voodoo did some absolutely sick paintjobs back in the day before hp fully absorbed them in the mid 2000s, as you can see in both of these machines. the big one is perfect though. it's green. and the voodoo laptop line was called the Envy. "Green with Envy". absolute perfection ?. the green one is in fantastic shape; just missing a couple screws and the battery. i'm not done upgrading it yet, but here's the specs for both of these machines as they sit: white u:703 unit: Intel Pentium 4 Desktop chip @ 3.6ghz 3gb ddr2 (chipset limited) nvidia geforce go 7950 gtx 512mb (actually very hard to find working and in the correct clevo socket format) and green h:201 unit: AMD Turion 64 x2 @ 2.0ghz (can hold up to 2.4ghz dual core chip; im on the lookout for one at a good price) 512mb ddr2 (can hold up to 8gb of ddr2) nvidia quadro fx 2500m (can hold up to twin nvidia 7950gtx cards for SLi; the first laptop (design) to use dual video cards!) I've looked up many reviews and some say screen is not good, some say it is okay, idk what to do.Which other laptop will you suggest ? Also, I'm concerned about the battery life.If at all you recommend this,Should go with 12 gb ram or will 8gb be sufficient? Will the processor benefit from the extra ram? I'll be using this for casual gaming and browsing. Here's the link to product: https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-envy-x360-15z-touch-laptop-3ec81av-1

Hey there, I am looking for a good laptop as a mechanical engineering (some CAD and simulation stuff in the future maybe). I've narrowed my search down to two laptops so far (links below). (Summary): Does having AMD make up for losing 8GB worth of RAM on Intel? Laptop 1: HP Envy X360 15-ed0003ca intel i7-1065G7 16GB DDR4 SDRAM Intel Iris Plus Graphics silver $1329.99 CAD Laptop 2: HP Envy X360 15-ee0003ca AMD Ryzen 7 4700U 8GB DDR4 SDRAM AM Radeon Graphics Black $1099.99 CAD There really isn't much of a difference, my biggest question is whether a loss in 8GB is made up for by having AMD Ryzen 7. My current laptop has an Intel i5 and 12GB RAM. Also if you have any other laptop suggestions, that would be well appreciated too. Thanks. laptop 1: https://www.costco.ca/hp-envy-x360-15-ed0003ca-2-in-1-laptop-bundle%2c-i7-1065g7.product.100656728.html laptop 2: https://www.costco.ca/hp-envy-x360-15-ee0003ca-2-in-1-laptop-bundle%2c-amd-ryzen-7-4700u.product.100657185.html

i like to collect old laptops. machines like the alienware area 51 m17x-r1, eurocom emperor m59k, and sager d900k machines are awesome to me. one machine that's always evaded me was one of the big old Voodoo Envy machines. one like the old alienware malx machine, but with a different custom chassis. i've never seen one pop up for sale ever. if any of you have seen one for sale within the past year or even have one yourself please let me know, as it would make for a nice piece in my collection!

Hi guys, you have helped me in the past and i'm here again to ask for your help in buying a new thin and light or something along those lines. I have 70k indian rupees to spare (1000 usd give or take but laptops are pricey here so around 850-900 usd ) I require a laptop for basically productivity tasks like excel , skype , office and other business related stuff, a good screen as i will get bored mostly as i recently got into a management institute. the laptop can go over the current price range but i hope it doesnt. the laptop should have - 7th gen i7 or 8th gen i5 atleast 256gb ssd or more (and or) high capacity hdd great screen- 1080 p full hd IPS panel pls 8gb ram windows 10 it would not be a gaming laptop but a dedicated graphics can help. aso if intel hd graphics can run smoothly for 2 years without failing in the above tasks then im in. screen could be between 13 and 15, can be 15.6 but then it should be light. and should be lightweight- thats why im trying to rule out hp pavillion series and dell inspiron series but can come back to these options if nothing else comes out of this thread after some discussion ive finalised hp envy notebook , dell xps 13 , and macbook air but i hope you guys can help with whether these are the right fit or not or can advise some other laptops . thank you guys in advance ...

I recently purchased a ADATA xpg 6000 512 gb nvme m.2 ssd. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIADF16R03239 So i just removed the old one and replaced the new on on my laptop as i wanted to clean installation on the drive but when i turned on the laptop no ssd was detected. I tried it on my desktop which has a nvme m.2 slot on the mother board it works fine there. currently i have 256-MB, M2.2280, PCIe, 3×4, SS, NVMe, solid-state drive supporting TLC DS 847109-012 what is the difference between what i have and what i got ? is it something with ADATA ssd specs ?

Okay so I have a HP Envy 700-060 Pc. This hasn't worked for about 2 - 3 years. I recently decided to try and fix it after forgetting that i actually owned it. The problem is that when i turn it on, it will get a BSOD and then reboot, and will do this until i stop it, getting to different stages each time: some times being able to log on (as far as it ever goes) most of the time it goes to the HP loading screen for the motherboard and stop. It will then start repairing it's self and repeat this. I researched some of the many many errors, and found that most of them pointed to a driver issue, or a bios issue. I tried giving it a new Bios battery, and reseting the CMOS. Now it seems to not turn on and POST at all. (The psu is fine, and i have tried booting with one stick of ram) Any help would be greatly appreciated The specs are: 2tb Hard drive 2 x 8GB RAM Intel i7 4770 GTX 660

laptop Need help selling a laptop. Not an ad
joshcha posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Have had an HP ENVY Touchsmart Leap motion 17.3 inch laptop for a while. Its a bit too big for my tastes but runs great. I'd like to sell it but do not know how to go about doing that at all. Does anybody who knows a good place to sell a laptop like this would be? I'd like to get a smaller laptop with the money from the sale. -

Hi, I need some advice in choosing between two laptops. I'll give the specs first. They are both from HP. The first one is an Envy 15-j132na featuring: - i7 4702mq - Gt 750mm 4gb (ddr3) - 60Whr battery - Glossy touchscreen 1080p The other one is an Envy 15-k238nd with: - i5 5200u - gtx 850m 4gb (ddr3) - 41Whr battery - mat 1080p screen They both have a 1 Tb sshd (8gb flash), 1080p screen, 8gb of ram. I will probably add an ssd to one of theses for boot and heavy duty programs. These are HP renew laptops so I can get a pretty good deal. One for 600 euros (the i7) and the other for 650 (i5). So I need some advice from you guys. - Will battery life of these two be comparable? Or does the low voltage (much lower tdp) i5 beat the i7 even with the lower power battery in terms of battery life? - Which one of these would be better for gaming? For dx12 games and stuff like bf4 and star wars battlefront. Will the i5 bottleneck at some point in comparison with the i7? Is the 850m that much better even with the i5? - I also need it for school programs like: comsol, matlab and labview. Will I benefit from the older generation quad core i7 in comparison with the low voltage i5? I hope you guys can help me out! Answering one of these three points could really help me make a choice. Thanks

So I have a secondary laptop I'm looking to upgrade, I know that the AMD A-Series of APU's can be upgraded but I'm not exactly familiar with APU's so I need help finding the highest end APU I can get to work in this laptop. It needs to be an APU sadly so I can't get a separate CPU and GPU. I'm upgrading the APU, RAM, and Storage. Going to upgrade from 6GB's of RAM to 16GB's DDR3 12800 1.35v RAM, and I'm planning to upgrade the storage from 518GB to a 2TB or larger, then I'm adding either a 128GB or a 256GB SSD with an external closure. I mainly need help with the APU Upgrading, currently have an AMD A10-4600M which comes with an AMD 7660G GPU. I'd like to get a higher end APU for faster editing and mobile gaming, I do have a very high end desktop rig but I need something with good performance on the go. Thanks for all the help, below are a few excerpts from my dxdiag file. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 11/22/2014, 18:06:00 Machine name: -------- Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600) (9600.winblue_r3.140827-1500) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard System Model: HP ENVY dv6 Notebook PC BIOS: F.23 Processor: AMD A10-4600M APU with Radeon HD Graphics (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz Memory: 6144MB RAM Available OS Memory: 5596MB RAM Page File: 4244MB used, 3015MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 11 --------------- Display Devices --------------- Chipset: AMD A70M Card name: AMD Radeon HD 7660G Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. I have this soundcard PPA 1424V and here's the website for the card (http://ppa-usa.com/computer-products/usb-pci/pci-sound-card-8-channel.html) I know its not a great sound card but it was cheap and I just needed something that had an anolog mic that worked. before you ask I have the ASUS M2NBP-CSM motherboard. it has built in sound, but I dont have the drivers. I am also using Windows 7 and I'm not sure how I got Win7 drivers for it in the first place. And I have no idea where to get them. the mic plug dosn't seem to work and its not recognize the mic in the control panel. here's what shows up in my control panel this is what shows up when im on the playback tab this is what shows up on the top part of my recording tab and this is what shows up on the bottom part of the recording tab I should note that im using HDMI on a GT620 video card. Could that be the reason why it isn't working? And I have the "Do nothing" selected in the Communications tab, but that shouldnt affect anything...

Hey everyone I know this may seem stupid and I am truly sorry but where the heck do I instal my new SSD?! I took some pictures and here is a link, imgur. http://imgur.com/Nv65ue9,3UApFR8,AVyRgqS The small cage on the side looks like an SSD spot, but it was so hard to hold down and get a single screw back in it felt wrong, and the main HDD drive bay cage is closed off, how the heck do I put in an adapter with the SSD? system: HP ENVY H8-1534 Case: HP Envy 2013 model Need any more info let me know.

Hey! I have an hp envy dv6. Its been past down to me now that my parents got a new laptop. I want to take out the standard optical drive and use a drive caddy to put an ssd in its place. My question is is this possible? if so can I use any ssd like an 840 pro or do I have to use a certain set of ssd's. and is it a reliable fix now that I have my normal hdd and a fast ssd in the laptop instead of an optical drive. thanks and have a nice day, Sribeast21
