I was just scrolling through my old hard drive and I see it a lot, where many file names will be replaced with X and occasionally capitalised. What's more confusing is these are the only files that are *not* corrupted compared to others. Heres a screenshot of a bunch of these files, the text files without 'X' are corrupted/encrypted for whatever reason. You can see that the X is forcefully replaced whatever text was previous there. Instead of key.png its XEY.PNG. Hi! This may be a stupid question, but I hope you can point me in the right direction. I have a ThinkPad T15 laptop with a 10th gen i7 in it. It's great, compact, fast, I love it. It has no discrete graphics, however. I've been thinking of buying a thunderbolt EGPU case, and some low-power (for example GTX 1650) GPU, but I was shocked to find out, how much EGPU cases cost. More than a GPU, even in today's world! I really only need NVENC, or some other hardvare accelerated video encode/decode and processing power. I'm not planning on gaming (and certainly not AAA recent titles), but occasionally I need to edit video, or make a livestream of an event. This CPU alone can't handle that, as OBS uses 30-40% just for encode/decode. Does a device like this exist? Or can you recommend some extremely simple EGPU case/cable/anything, that doesn't cost a furtune?

i own a Samsung nx1 and it records in hevc h.265 but in order to edit it i need it to be standard h.264 i want to use handbrake but i dont know how to convert h.254 to h.264 please help!!

Hi everybody, this is my first message on the LTT-board, and I have a question. For video editing I am using Wondershare Filmora. A fairly pretty nice program, which has a very easy to understand interface. The only thing that is bothering me is it's encoding quality. In relation to Handbrake it basically 'sucks'. Handbrake can give the same quality at nearly half the file size. And it's not like Handbrake takes more time than Wondershare Filmora. So at this moment I am busy with (another) Cities Skylines video for my YouTube channel, and I don't want to re-encode every time I make a video of this game. I record it at 1080p 60fps with Bandicam (yes, the paid registered version), and video edit it in Filmora. The question is what would be the ideal bit-rate? I read a lot about 1080p and 60fps that 8,000kbit/s would be most ideal. BUT, games differ a lot. Some games involve a lot of movement (like Battlefield), but in Cities Skylines most of the visuals are images of buildings and the only things that are moving is the traffic and the people in the city. And of course you yourself scrolling around and doing things. Now would 6,000kbit/s be enough? It would reduce the file size to a point I am content with to upload to YouTube. Without re encoding it saves also video quality. But is 6,000kbit/s enough for a pretty static game like Cities Skylines?

Hey I was wondering if anyone could confirm (preferably someone who actually has one) that the GTX 1660ti / 1660 has the same or more encoding bandwidth in comparison to the GTX 1080. When I say bandwidth I mean bandwidth, not performance, I am aware that the Turing NVENC chip produces a higher quality image. What I would like to know is if it can handle the same load, for example, my GTX 1080 can encode 2 4K streams at a 288M bit-rate simultaneously no sweat, while the GTX 1070 and below do not have this capability. The GTX 1080 actually has 2 NVENC engines giving it 2x the bandwidth of it's like series brethren, see NVIDIA's Encode Matrix. You'll also see that the GTX 1070 is listed to have 2 NVENC chips, but for reasons unknown to me only one of them is active, so it still remains true that the GTX 1080 has higher encoding bandwidth. It's reasons like these that I ask and not assume, NVENC chips have in the past been very tricky to judge on paper. Basically, if I could get someone to encode a high bit-rate video in something like OBS and screen shot the GPU section of task manager while doing so I would be highly appreciative. Preferably a 4K60 video at a 288M VBR (variable bit-rate) bitrate, but a 1080p60 video at a 288M VBR will still theoretically work and give me something to reference in comparison to my GTX 1080. Also worth mentioning that something has to be going on on screen to get an accurate measure, the more fast paced the game the more stress it puts on the encoder, so something like Rocket League or Apex Legends works great. Really just looking to see what percentage the "Video Encode" encode section of task manager is at while encoding one of the aforementioned streams. I consistently encode 2 4k streams simultaneously so it's important for me to know that a 1660ti / 1660 can do the same before picking one up. If it can however, they're cheaper, produce a higher quality image, and consume less power, so there would be no reason not to make the swap. PS this is for a dedicated encoding rig, so the 3D performance of the card is inconsequential.

Just to quickly explain my use case - I encode 3 video streams (PC gameplay, console gameplay, camera) simultaneously via FFmpeg. This allows me to keep the each "stream" completely separate for non-destructive mixing / post production, as opposed to recording with something like OBS which burns each video stream into a single feed. Currently I have to encode one of the video streams via CPU because I can only encode 2 of them with my GTX 1080 due to an encode limit imposed on GTX / RTX cards by NVIDIA. First and foremost this greatly reduces the quality of my third video stream due to other processes using up my CPU while recording, if I could encode all streams via GPU the third stream would go from a 30M bitrate to a 250M bitrate. This limit also forces me to export multiple files as opposed to a single properly mapped file containing all audio and video streams, which makes synchronization and ease of use a nightmare. Before actually considering a comparable Quadro which has no encode session limit I thought I'd do a quick search to see if anyone has bypassed said limit on GTX / RTX cards, and I came across this Github repository: https://github.com/keylase/nvidia-patch I was always under the impression that the encode limit was hardware imposed, but this would suggest otherwise. Sound like several users are already using this patch to bypass the limit for use with their plex servers, but the only caveat is it's Linux only... I have many hardware incompatibilities with Linux so migrating isn't an option for me, not to mention the difficulty of moving from Directshow to something in Linux. After searching some more I found this repository which seems to work with Windows: https://github.com/Matviy/nvidia-NVENC-multi-session-patch Unfortunately it looks like it's no longer maintained and I can't make sense of the instructions. Anybody understand what's going on here? Seems like some fairly high level stuff and I'm assuming no one here has the know how but there's no harm in asking.

Hi All, Does anyone know of some good open source or free software that can work with Handbrake or similar programs to auto re-encode video files when they are created? I have tired WatchFolder but that doesn't seem to work. We need to to re-encode security camera footage to a smaller file size format but need it automated. Thanks All.

Hello. I have ripped some of my DVDs to MKV using MakeMKV. I want to keep the original DVD quality without compression. I've noticed that my .MKV files are interlaced with MPEG-2 video. I've noticed when I want to stream my DVD in Plex, I have to transcode to H.264. The question is, how can I convert & de-interlace my ripped DVDs into H.264 without quality loss? I want to keep the audio (Dolby Digital), subtitile tracks, and keep it in a MKV container. What should I do?
