Hi there! This is my first post on the forum. I’ve got a HP Elitebook 2530p (i know, it’s very old but for my laptop needs it’s enough) that’s been acting very strange in the last months. Sometimes, when I boot the machine up, after the HP bios screen, the OS doesn’t start up (I’ve got Ubuntu 19.10 on it) and it stays on a black screen. After I force shutdown a couple of times and try to start it again it boots up. BUT another problem it’s when I try to restart it or wake up from standby it gives me a ram error (the caps lock and block num flash on the “touchbar”), but I’ve already tried with known good ram sticks from other machines and it always gives me the same problem. Did somebody have the same problem? If yes, you know how to solve it? (Trashing the laptop is not a accepted fix ?)

Should I get a 840 g5 that has a 8250u, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD for 350eur. Or is a 840 g4 7300u, 8gb, 256gb ssd for 180eur a better deal? They both have a 1920x1080 panel driven by Intel (U)HD Graphics 620. EDIT: The G5 has type-c charging.

Ok to start off here, this type of repair (appears) to be new territory for me. I am trying to fix this HP Elitebook x360 G2 that I received that won't post. When I power it on the fan starts to spin at full RPM and someone I know said they have seen this happen before if it's having cooling issues and told me to try cleaning the fan and thermal paste and reapplying it which I did and got nothing out of it. I believe there is something wrong with the main board and I am trying to find a schematic and a boardview to figure out what the voltage should be for what and what should or shouldn't be shorted. I'm aware that that's already a very difficult task in of itself, but I gotta learn how to at some point right? I've spent quite some time trying to look and found a couple of sites that have both the schematic and boardviews but not for this computer. Anyone know where I can go to find this or know of other models that have practically the same layout that I can use that instead? If you have other ideas that could fix this I'm all ears. The computer doesn't me any kind of error code either so I'm trying to guess and check. I have a lot of experience in fixing computers but not to this level, I tend to stick to more part replacements and fixing the software side of the computers

Good Evening LTT forum. I have never made a post here but I think this may be worth it. Recently my father gave me his hand me down HP Elitebook 8730W at first I wasn’t as thrilled to get it because I already have a decent laptop but another would hurt right? As opening up the laptop I noticed it has a Nivida Quadro sticker on it as well as and Intel Extream Core 2 during the vista era. I know a little about modern tech but this predates me. I’m currently wiping all my fathers old files now. And just wanted to get y’all opinion on if this PC is still a powerhouse in this day in age? And how to test if it is? Here are some photos too! The Quadro is a 3700FX 1gb from what I can tell

I recently picked up an HP Elitebook 8560w. A few days ago I configured the BIOS to my liking and installed Ubuntu 21.10 without issue. Ubuntu 22.04 dropped today so I decided to do a clean install. I remembered from the last time I did this that the USB installer said something about text mode being disabled so I tweak to the BIOS settings in order to enable it for this install. According to the installer it installed correctly and I restarted the system but the laptop now says there's no operating system on the disk. I tried clean installing 21.10 again and had the same issue. I decided to reset the BIOS but when I press the keys to get into the BIOS it would just take me to a Diagnostics menu that everytime I left the computer would restart. Running all of the Diagnostics and then exiting doesn't seem to cause any different behavior. I removed the battery, power cable, and CMOS battery to reset the CMOS and that let me get back into the BIOS after. Because I kept tweaking settings and this kept happening so I had to do it a few times and I've noticed if I just exit the BIOS after a CMOS reset I have the same issue with the infinite Diagnostics page. no combination of BIOS settings seems to allow me to boot to the operating system after either version of Ubuntu is installed to the drive. At this point I'm lost and I've decided to put down the laptop and return to it later but would like to see if anyone has any tips before I try again. My gut says it's got something to do with the TPM but I have little idea how TPM works. Edit: I should probably add that I remade my installation media in the middle of this just in case it was that

So since my Great ZBook 17 Died on me A week ago, I had this old mate saved, a HP EliteBook 8770w, It has K4000M, and My Zbook had K4100M, there is a bit more performance on the 4100, than on 4000, So I tried placing the k4100m in, and screen goes black, with backlight on, I had seen several post over the internet about them placing Kepler cards and Haswell ones on their 8770w and even 8760w, so I need help, what do I do? Should I update my bios? or blind-flash the gpu? Here specs from 8770w: i7 3820qm 20GB RAM Quadro K4000M 2x500gb HDD on raid 0 (risky but fast)

So I've got a laptop (HP elitebook 8560w) with a 500gb HDD in it right now and Id like to get a 240gb SSD to put my windows on, for obvious reasons, now my HDD is almost full (450gb used) and i would like to move my OS (being windows 7 64bit) to the ssd by copying it rather than doing a fresh install because of the drivers and the hassle of reinstalling them (this is a laptop so i would need the drivers for almost every component in it (not to mention the never-ending pain of getting HPs older fingerprint reader drivers to play nice w/ windows)). Either way the question is; is there any software that could allow me to copy just the OS and the drivers from one drive to another (in this case being from my HDD to my SSD) without copying the entire contents of the first drive (Id really like to not have to delete enough from my HDD so it could fit a direct copy to the SSD because i have so much data and nowhere to back it up while this is done). Extra questions are; is there a way to delete just the os from a drive, and can if this entire thing is not even possible what is the best software for making drive copies. All and any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey again LTT community, back with another tech support question. I recently got an HP Elitebook 2760p from the IT department at my college as surplus, but they forgot to remove the BIOS password, so I can't even really do anything with it since they have the boot drive disabled since it does not recognise there is a drive or operating system (I can boot from USB into Linux, but the SSD that is in the laptop does not appear). I've tried a few things, and resorted to removing the RTC battery for 45 minutes, but the laptop has security against this and restores the BIOS settings and password. My instructor for my A+ class recommended that I try to short the BIOS chip or something, but I cannot seem to find it's location. Any help in this matter is much appreciated! Solved

EDIT: Info OS: Windows 10 Pro: 64bit HP Elitebook 8570p Export of msinfo unsuccessfully attached(getting error -200) http://pastebin.com/dEuCbE0m So I have this laptop, I inherited it from my father (he got a new work laptop). Everything was fine until the AC Adapter shorted and I tried to fix it I had an old 2-pin charger with the right voltage and amperage but it didn't fit. After doing research on google I discovered the 3rd pin was only used to ID the adapter as being original(simplified). I cut off the 3-pin connector from the shorted adapter and found a diagram telling me which wires were ground and which v-out. I connected them and nothing... So I swapped the wires figuring I had connected wromsinfo32.txtng *facepalm*... After plugging the adapter into an outlet and hearing the distinctive noise of something being shorted and seeing my laptop screen go dark. I unplugged and tried turning it on again, nothing.... My dads new work laptop luckily used the proper adapter and I was able to see that the laptop was in working order... mostly The battery was not charging so I figured it was ruined and ordered a new one. (In windows it said "Plugged In, Charging, 4%" but it never gained any charge, not while sitting idle or turned off) My dad permanently borrowed some adapters from old laptops at work and I got on with my life expecting the new battery to fix everything. Only it didn't. I received the new battery today plugged it in and nicely surprised when it arrived charged to 34%. After playing for a couple of hours(plugged in) I checked the battery level and it was saying "Plugged in, Charging 34%". It hadn't charged, so I decided to see if I could play on battery alone and I could. Since then I have tried a variety of fixes: Uninstalling the drivers in Device Manager, then searching for hardware updates Uninstalling the drivers in Device Manager, then restarting Power off, remove battery, hold power button for 1min+ (to deplete an internal battery) Cleaning the battery connectors Trying different AC adapters Booting a Ubuntu Live DVD to see if it was a windows problem Disassembling the laptop to check the soldering on the battery connectors TL:DR; Tried to fix my laptop adapter - fucked up my laptop Next step, venturing into the BIOS Any suggestions appreciated

Hi, I have a HP Elitebook 8470p running Windows 10 pro 64 bit. It has Intel i7 3.0ghz processors, 16gb RAM, 1tb hard drive. I use this laptop for DJ'ing using Serato DJ Pro and I also dabble with FL Studio music software with various VST's I know I can get an 2.5 inch SSD drive for it but wondered if I was able to upgrade the processor and RAM or am I at the maximum specs for this laptop?

So, I have decided to retire my trusty x230, as the cramped screen size, horrible tn panel and the aging internals have started to seriously annoy me. I use laptop for teaching (lots of carrying it arround), translation work (making the keyboard quality essential), office work (excel etc.), surfing and some light gaming (strategy and rpg). What I am looking for in my new laptop is: a great keyboard a decent 14 inch screen serviceability reliability to last years portability Everything else is just sugar on top, but of course I want the internals to be as beefy as they can get in my price bracket. I have narrowed my choice to three models (priced about the same), ready to pull the trigger but unable to decide: Lenovo Thinkpad T495, Ryzen 5 3500, 16 gb pros: I love the keyboard on my x230, supposed thinkpad reliability and build quality, modern and capable chipset, i use an esternal mouse but like the option of trackpoint, weight, no os - no bloat cons: PANEL LOTTERY - there is a possiblity of getting a horrible BOE panel with awful response times and visible ghosting, soldered parts (one ram stick), reports claim that that the laptop isn't really on the old thinkpad level of quality when it comes to both build and keyboard, design - i don't like the big "chin" HP Elitebook 840 G6, i7 8th gen, 16gb, dgpu Radeon rx550 pros: specs are really high, dedicated graphics, build quality is supposed to be great, has trackpoint, design, low weight, low temparatures (reviews claim it doesnt pass 36 degrees C under load, which seems miraculous - this is for an igpu model, mind you) , EVERYTHING can be serviced and replaced and HP even has a ton of videos on Youtube showing how, long life of previous generation elitebooks, no os installed so no bloadt cons: reviews claim it's good, but I have doubts about the keyboard, keyboard layout features call answering buttons - I see no point, g6 is new and not a lot of info is available, thermal throttling might be present to reach those low temps - I don't mind if it doesn't slow too much Asus Zenbook UX433FN,i5 8th gen, 16 gb, Geforce MX150 pros: design and portability - really low weight and profile, dgpu, tried the keyboard and it's good, narrow bezels, no os-no bloat cons: everything is soldered, no info on reliability long term, gpu is the lower voltage MX150 and works about 30% slower than the regular one, possibly bad thermals and throttling due to sleek build, users often mention bad coil whine Any suggestions or opinions are welcomed. I am mostly interested in users of any of these models, and their experiences.

I need some advice, the fanspeed on my HP Elitebook 8460p ramps up and down like crazy. At startup it looks fine at 50 degrees Celcius, but when starting Windows Update it goes from 50 to 90 to 70 within a split second. While the load is less than 20%. Is the sensor messed up or should I open this baby up and add some new thermal paste?

Hi guys. I’m having a problem. My HP 8460p is running Windows 10. I just bought a drive bay (caddy) to install a second hdd inside, instead of the dvd drive. After installation of the hard drive, I booted up the laptop and under “Computer” it is shown as a second “D” hard drive. However, I noticed an overall slowing down of the system after installing it, even for tasks that run of the main C drive. An a major problem is that if I put the computer to sleep, it actually doesn’t go to sleep, the screen turns off but I can tell by the sound of the fan and the leds, that the laptop is still on or doing something. Even though the screen is black. out of this state, is is unable to “ wake” up or turn the screen back on. I have to force shutt down and start new again. Secondly, while running the system, If i would to “restart” instead of sleep, it does the same, it doesn’t completely shut down, leds are on, screen is black, but nothing happens. Need to force shut off and start up again. Does anyone have an idea what I did wrong? Or how to fix this? I checked the BIOS and the boot order is “internal C” hard drive first. After taking out the drive bay, the laptop speed is back up and sleep and restart does work. Thank you!

HP has introduced a new line of AMD power Elitebook and Probook laptops. The Elitebook gets 3 new models, 735 G5, 745 G5, and 755 G5, while the Probook gets a single new model, the 645 G4. All of the Elitebooks uses AMD Ryzen with Radeon VEGA, while the Probook uses AMD Ryzen Pro with Radeon VEGA graphics. All of them supports up to 32GB of DDR4 of user replaceable memory in dual channel mode. For storage it supports both SATA and M.2 including NVMe as well as US Government encryption standard FIPS 140-2. The Elitebooks comes with a 13" for the 735, 14" on the 745, and 15.6" for the 755. For Probook it comes with a 14". All of them has a resolution of 1920x1080, IPS panel, optional touch, and while all of them have a 1920x1080 resolution, the Probook also has a entry level screen at 1366x768. For keyboard they're spill resistant and comes with drain ports. On the connectivity side of things, it comes with gigabit lan, 1x1 or 2x2 wifi with Bluetooth, USB 3.1 including type C, HDMI 2.0, Secure Card, and Intel XMM 7360 LTE module. Price will range from $760 to $1,000+ and will be available at the end of May. With the introduction of a intergrated cellular module like the Intel XMM 7630, it would be interesting to see if other laptop manufactures will soon follow or they will wait until 5G becomes available. Hey, I'm buying a laptop with a 3rd gen i7 3610QM, 4GB RAM (upgrading it to 16 eventually) and a 500GB HDD. (if anybody asks, it's a HP Elitebook 2570p 12.5") It's meant to be a mobile workstation, but occasionally I will use it for a little gaming. I just wonder if anyone has played CSGO with a similar hardware configuration, and can measure the performance. I thought that the quadcore CPU would help CSGO's performance as it seems to be mostly CPU bound and doesn't stress the GPU as much as it should. What would a good prediction be? Thanks
-
So I was thinking about buying a normal GPU and hooking it up to my laptop (HP Elitebook 8560w) through the expresscard slot on the laptop and using one of these ( http://www.banggood.com/EXP-GDC-Laptop-External-PCI-E-Graphics-Card-p-934367.html ) now I have limited budget and this laptop is an excellent machine so i just want to install lets say a GTX 970 or 1070 "in" it and i am well aware that this is a dodgy solution and ill probably be facing a million issues but its currently the only solution that's financially viable for me. Therefore I require any advice or shared experience anyone has had with these in the past and is it even possible with this laptop (this topic hasn not really been concluded here: ( https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/500655-egpu-help/#comment-6685241 )) so I dont know how did it end . Any and all help is much appreciated.
