I'm coming to LTX with several PEVs. Anyone want to do a group ride around Vancouver? We can do a short ride around downtown for people with low range PEVs, and anyone with longer range we can go further after that. I'm up for a bunch of rides, so if anyone wants to do some exploring we can work out plans. Better to ride in a group plus we can geek out about our gear.

Hello! First forum post here! I have been watching LTT since the Langly House days and love the content. Have you all considered creating a car channel, I have loved seeing the car reviews on Short Circut and think a channel, similar to Auto Focus, would be really cool to see from the LMG team. Something with a weekly or biweekly schedule would be fun. I don't know, I have had this on my mind for a few months and never really knew where to share it. Then I remembered the forum existed lol.

Hello, I've been searching for a month now for an electric standing desk that can hold my set up safely and possibly under $1000. The current "best" I've found was a custom UPLIFT desk but it priced out at over $1000 and just not ready to invest that much in a desk, preferably. My set up that it needs to hold, Samsung Odyssey G9: 50lbs HX Desk Monitor Arm: 16lbs ~10lbs of miscellaneous items then the PC itself which I dont know the weight of for sure, please correct me if weight seem off. If the theory weight of the PC is correct at ~49lbs, then total it will be about 130lbs I would need. But I really want to make sure this is a sturdy and safe desk. With everything its holding, I really don't want anything to happen because of a faulty or cheap desk. Prefer electronic standing as I do like to stand and too lazy for the manual stand up. Thank you for any help!

Dear Users, I have always wanted either a go kart or to repurpose a tractor or lawnmower into a little drift demon, but I am worried about so many things about kart/vehicle construction. Here are some topics that if you know stuff about lets discuss! I want to build two vehicles currently, one slow and one fast. A) If I go for a gas engine, how much horsepower would I need to go slow? And how much to go fast? Say my craft is 250 pounds including my weight, would a 7 hp engine be nice, or what equations can I use to calculate this. B) If I go for a electric motor and some fat batteries what equations are there to calculate how many Watts I would need to go fast or slow, any info on this would be great. C) If I want to rebuild or build my own front of the car, how do I build an axle and connect body work onto it? Any ideas? D) How do I know if my chassis can stand the forces I will be placing on it? Should I make everything out of iron or steel? Do I need like a roll cage for stability? I was gonna build the body work with wood. I really dont need to have my vehicle break at speed. E) How do I connect a steering wheel to an axle or do they come as a combo? Any videos or links would be awesome. I know this all may sound vague and like I dont know what I am doing and haven't done a lot of research, but I have, most go kart builds start with a pre built go kart or something thats expensive, I want to build something so custom that I want to DYI it all with literally 0 knowledge beforehand. Absolute learning time. Thanks! -GEESMAN

Hi Everyone, I am making a electric Go Kart. I am using a 60v brushless dc motor over volted to 88.8v. I was wondering how I can charge my batteries with a J1772 charger. My Battery setup is: 2x Tattu 12s 44.4v lipo batteries in a series I have two of those series in parallel. I know that I need a 120v ac to 90v dc power supply. I was wondering how I can charge the batteries in the go kart with a j1772 connection. -Josh

Have you ever heard about or tried Thermoelectric cooling? The principal rests on "Peltier effect" [an effect whereby heat is given out or absorbed when an electric current passes across a junction between two materials.] It can be achieved by an small plate called peltier plate. You give it an current and one side will cool down and the other will heat up. This cooling is used in small cooling boxes and I even seen an actual cooling for CPU`s made on this principle. I have no experiences with this kind of cooling but i think it`s worth the discussion or even "I must try it" section.

Hi guys, When I'm building my pc can I use a towel or something like that to protect my case? So that I don't have to lay it directly on the wooden table and prevent possible scratches. Thanks in advance.

Before I sold my macbook pro 2010, when charging with a UK power block it gave me a a tingle sort of buzzing feeling when running my fingers across the aluminium chassis. This did not happen whilst running off the battery alone. My partner could feel it if he ran his arm across my skin. Despite the power being earthed in plug it still done so. I used several USB and my graphics tablet plugged into it. I would like to know if that sort of electrocution feeling could damage my peripherals, and when I had not used them for 2 weeks as I waited for my new tower-could plugging the things I had used in the macbook damage my new Pc. They work fine in spare laptop, just worried about our new high end one. Also say once I plugged peripherals from macbook into new Pc, then brought a new USB or plugged partners capture card in. Would that get damaged. Regards Alexis

I recently opened my case to insert a PCIe USB 3.0 hub. In the process I dropped metal tweezers (was using to straighten pins on USB socket on PCIe card) and now worried I may have damage motherboard? Am I being too paranoid?

Hi all, I know it's not really computer based but it is an electronics question. Basically I want to build my brother a small electric go-kart, nothing overly fast, like 5-10 mph and I have an old table saw motor, it's a 0.3kw 1400rpm motor, I was wondering if this would be powerful enough to move about 100kg at a reasonable speed. Thanks

Really I just really like the car company Tesla and when I searched for a discussion on it nothing came up so I just wanted to make a discussion on it. I think that the cars are awesome and that while they do not make their own clean energy it is an awesome step forward.

Source: The Verge Volvo's first electric car, the Volvo XC40 SUV, will be unveiled next week and will run native Android. In essence, this means the SUV will be able to run Android apps such as Maps without the need of an Android phone, as well as receive updates over the air. (Except who knows how long this will be supported given track record for Android updates?) As an avid user of the Google suite and general Google apps, this might actually be a neat perk if an EV I purchase in the future (not necessarily a Volvo) will have Android built in. I'm familiar with Maps and how to command the Assistant, so it should be a nice quality of life addition to my vehicle. I am still very much doubting if the software updates will be often and time-sensitive, but with Volvo taking an expansion into smart infotainment devices into their first ever EV, can only hope Android support will be a priority so cars who run it aren't left in the dust.

Hi guys, my old radio broke in a storm probably from the power coming and going. The radio has two big speakers which are still working (tested them holding the cables on a normal jack). Those speakers have only two wires coming out from each, a black and white one. Looking for a cheap amplifier on amazon I saw: https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Amplifier-Wireless-Receiver-Adapter/dp/B072Q157FY/ref=sr_1_26?keywords=audio+amp&qid=1574674311&sr=8-26 It has the right wattage and resistance for the speakers, but it has what looks like female rca on it, how do I connect it? I can buy cheap rca male plugs but then how do I solder? in the schematics I found rca has 2 cables per plug while I only have one per plug... Hope I was clear and thank u in advance for the help guys Edit: the photo is of the back of my old Radio

hi all i got a new pc built it and everything working fine but lately i noticed that some parts of my case got weak electric flow (screws-io shield-gpu shield) it is nothing serious it just tingle a bit i live in an old house i got no grounding and using 2 prongs outlets i checked mobo to see if i installed it right and no problems but i noticed that standoffs also got that weak electric current so could the mobo be responsible for this as it is connected to case through those metal standoffs i have been running this pc for about a week nearly 24/7 with no problems at all but i want to know if this ungrounded case can cause damage to my components thanks in advance

Pretty much what the title says. Computer runs fine with no load, but as soon as I jump into any game I hear a slight but noticeable buzzing sound coming from inside the PC then after about 4 minutes the circuit breaker trips and all power in the room shuts down. unplugged everything from the circuit minus the monitor and computer, still trips the circuit. If you have any knowledge of this please help MOBO: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073PWKSP6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_gt7MBb9H5JHJD CPU:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B41WS48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nu7MBb0QVVASG GPU:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GXOX3SW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ov7MBbXXH2ARE PSU:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H33SFJU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_yw7MBb1VMSNNP Could it possibly be my PSU wattage isn’t sufficient enough for my build? Any info would help. Currently living in military housing in japan, but the circuit breaker says it was installed in 2006

Roborace is a series designed for artificial intelligence by the same people doing Formula E. The "cars" will be guided by software and will compete without drivers. Nvidia takes a big part on this as a key partner and this is the first time ever for a driveless car on the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Personally I love motorsport, especially F1, WRC and Dakar. The roars and smells on a racetrack are unmatched, but I think it's a mistake to try to compare autonomous electric car racing with traditional motorsport. It's something completely different, a different concept. It remains to see how it goes, I'll give it a chance. The British tech company Dyson has unveiled plans for a 10-mile test track dedicated to testing their electric cars. The new facility is expected to become a "world-class vehicle testing campus strengthening Dyson's R&D credentials. The car is set to launch in 2020, with no details given, maybe it will be a road sweeper? And now for some patriotism: Great news for the south-west region with Dyson continuing their investment after setting up an engineering institute in 2017. From electric vacuums to electric vehicles Sir Dyson is definitely an inspiration and gets full respect from me at least. Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-45345778
