Hi everyone, I"m not much of a Mac person. Way more of a Windows person. I have a MacBook Pro (2008) running El Capitan. I get an Optimum Wifi pop up asking me to sign in like 3 times a day. iCloud repeatedly asks me to confirm my password for my email, over and over again. One problem was the system clock. It was way off and so that seemed to invalidate security certificates for common websites like Google. Updating the system clock seemed to fix it. Thanks for any help you can give.

I recently got a 2009 17inch MacBook Pro, and the install of El Capitan 10.11.6 didn't have iMovie installed. I use iMovie to edit my videos, and while I have managed to download a REALLY old version of iMovie 9, I would really like it if I could get a newer version. I have tried going to that download page on Apple Support but they only have version 9. I have also tried going into the app store to update it, but it wouldn't let me. I would really appreciate some help if someone out there has a solution! If you have any questions for me just leave them below and I will answer!

So I'm trying to run a virtual machine of Mac OSX El Capitan on Windows 10. I have a Ryzen 7 1700, 8GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 300Mhz, and an Asus Strix RX 480 8GB. Everything seemed fine up until when I clicked to run the vm and i got an error saying "A fault has occurred causing a virtual CPU to enter the shutdown state. If this fault had occurred outside of a virtual machine, it would have caused the physical machine to restart. The shutdown state can be reached by incorrectly configuring the virtual machine, a bug in the guest operating system, or a problem in VMware Player. Click OK to restart the virtual machine or Cancel to power off the virtual machine." I have tried turning on and off virtualization on in my bios, as well as smt, and I cannot get it to run. I have the VM configured to use 4GB of ram, and 4 cores, and 4 cores with 8 threads. Any ideas as to why this won't boot for me?

Hello! Im having problems installing OSX El Capitan. First of all, when I run Unibeast, It takes ages and I end up with two volumes, one called USB (The one I named in Unibeast) and "EFI". I've watched videos and read posts and no one seems to have the second one. Then, when I try to run it on the pc in clover, the apple logo appears and it loads half way and then it black screens. It's very frustrating because just a few months ago I got it to load the os and install everthing... (Then I screwed it up somehow.) I tried booting in verbose mode and took a pic, but still don't understant it.I have two drives a 500gb ssd and a 1tb hdd. Also, ive heard that it's a good idea to use a 2.0 port but my motherboard and case only have 3.0 ones. A few months back I installed linux to make sure the hardware is fine (and it is.) but after that I took the ssd and formated it on this pc. I was tupid knowing that when installing osx it formats it anyway but I have a feeling I may have formated it badly. Any Ideas?

Sorry if I didn't post in the right section, but this is mostly OS related (even if it's a hackintosh) so I figured this is the place. I installed El Capitan on an SSD and added it to my PC. Everything works, but the mouse cursor skips like crazy. I saw this problem reporting, but I had no success with the recommended fixes. I tried removing some kexts (Apple Upstream something client), installing Logitech Gaming Software (my mouse is a G502), but it still jumps a lot. By jumping I don't mean that it doesn't follow a straight path, but that it isn't fluid in its motion. Do you guys have any idea what could fix this?

I was recommended this tutorial by a friend, but the tool recommended to help do this, called rEFInd, cannot detect my root device or an EFI partition, so I'm stuck. I'm currently running El Capitan and have the 1TB model. According to some vague discussion on SourceForge, my 1TB model has 2 drives, and there is a bug in the tool that doesn't detect correctly unless you change the install script a bit. Normally this wouldn't be a problem for me, but there is no longer a script version available. It only comes in executable form. https://sourceforge.net/projects/refind/files/0.10.3/ If anyone here has experience doing a multi boot macbook or knows a site with more up to date tutorials, please help. Thank you

Hey guys, So before when I did not have an asus gtx 970 4gb card from asus I ran my el capitan hackintosh off the integrated graphics with my i7 4790 chip. Now ever since I plugged in the new gpu, I get really laggy and stuttery performance, and It's almost impossible to use. Once again everything worked fine before I put the new gpu in so its definitely because of this change that I am experiencing these issues. If anyone can help, It would be much appreciated thanks so much guys!

Hi I'm thinking of upgrading to yosemite/el capitan, currently I'm on 10.9 (can't remeber the name of the cat). What I'm wondering about is, what is the best way to upgrade? just let Apple do their thing and upgrade (like the windows 10 upgrade)? Or back everything up to a seperate disk (I know I should do this anyway), then download the OS to a USB stick and then do a fresh install?

So being a massive Windows 10 user most of the time, in fact, I've been using Windows since 98 and haven't really dabbled in much else other than the odd linux distro like Ubuntu and Fedora etc. I've decided to have a play around with OS X, now, don't get me wrong, I know I've jumped into the Apple game a little late, the operating system is mature, well-organised and sits very well right out of the box, but I'm gonna go ahead and say how I feel about some of the bits I've been using the most. 1. Safari To be honest, I was skeptical, I've been a massive Google Chrome user, like most of the population that wouldn't like to be stuck using IE, unless of course you're in mainland China, in which case you'll love it because they still use Windows XP. Safari seems to be a really fast, suitable replacement for third party browsers, it's much better than IE for an OS-based browser, and to be fair, it does a lot of the same things. For a start, I find the third-party extension support really useful, as I couldn't really live without stuff like ad-block plus (Don't worry Linus I contribute on Vessel) etc, all-in-all the browser experience was very similar to that of Chrome, really enjoyable and fluid. 2. iTunes Now, in terms of a music service, they're all pretty similar now, so I'll just touch on my experience with iTunes as opposed to comparing it with the likes of Spotify and Google Play Music. The music experience is very nice, I activated the 3-Month free trial of Apple Music and I haven't yet been disappointed, the performance of the player is very smooth, no clipping and even in headphones, it was nice. Finding pre-made playlists was intuitive, the radio service was fast and contained the kind of songs I enjoy right off the back. 3. Launchpad/Spotlight Seems to be the way ninjas navigate through their OS, along with Mission Control, switching between open windows was amazing, it actually made me want to do it more, even simple things like flicking between iTunes and Safari was more satisfying than the standard switching that you can find in Windows which really doesn't add any kind of excitement to the experience whatsoever like it did in Vista/7. Accessing all apps really quickly was amazing, having the board there with all of my apps just sitting there and waiting for me was fantastic, I really love the interface. To Conclude, OS preference is subjective, before anyone asks, I did install Steam, and although the compatibility of my library did surprise me at first, it wasn't the same as being on Windows, so I'll have to play all of my games on my laptop of course, really though, these are small problems in a massive world of opportunity and possibility. The OS is fluid, stable and contributes to my productivity to the point where I actually want to do my study instead of procrastinate on Facebook all the time. Overall I really like OS X since trying it, I never thought I'd like anything but Windows but I've seen the other side and to be honest, not a single issue If you like this post, please drop a thumbs-up, agree and follow it to keep updated

Hi. My main laptop is a 2010 MacBook A1342 which I use for school. It is absolutely HORRIBLE for gaming. I am a gamer and therefore like to be able to play my games on the go. You can check out the games I play here. steamcommunity.com/id/AlphaGamer46 I currently use a 120GB SSD with 40GB for OS X El Capitan and the rest for Windows 10. I want to abandon dual-booting because it is a real pain when I am at school and I need to go into OS X but I'm in Windows 10. I have an OS X Mavericks installer that I am ready to use and I am going to test it as I have a hard drive with it installed. I will also install my games and see how I like it. I would LOVE your thoughts on this as I am still a bit unsure. Thanks, Alpha.

Hi. I really badly need to install HP drivers on my 2010 MacBook for schooling. The printers we use at school are HP printers (at least some of them) and I need to install the drivers so they work. I was installing them earlier today but force shut down my laptop a while before it was meant to finish. Since then, it stalls on the 'Writing Files' page and does nothing. I have attempted to delete the files that were written by following a guide online but it still hangs. Please help, I really need my laptop to be able to print. Thanks, Alpha.

Hey guys, I need to download an El Capitan installer .dmg file to make a virtual machine and installer disk. I don't have access to a Mac so I can't get it from the app store. Also the computer I'm using at the moment isn't mine so I'd rather not install a torrent program. Thanks! -Jake

I am trying to decide which root I should go in building a cheap (> $800) computer that both runs El Capitan (or Yosemite), and Windows 10. I am thinking that I either build a hackintosh, or I buy an old (2008-2012) mac pro desktop computer. Odiously there are advantages and disadvantages to both of these. I would be inclined to go with a hackintosh although I don't own any Mac OS running things at the moment so that would be a problem when setting it up.

Source 1:http://www.macrumors.com/2015/06/25/os-x-el-capitan-code-hints-at-21-5-inch-imac/ Source 2: http://9to5mac.com/2015/06/25/4k-imac-2015-apple-tv-remote-touch/ Note the "" around the 4K in the title of this thread. If Apple were to release a 21.5" model with a Retina Display it would just be a pixel doubling to 3840*2160. However, the resolutions mentioned are larger than that, being more true to cinematic 4K as supposed to TV/desktop monitor 4K (although having a lot more pixels in the vertical space, namely 2304 as supposed to 2160), suggesting that the smaller iMac may see a bump in screen size, possibly to around 22"-23". That said, if Apple wants to keep the PPI the same as in their 27" Retina 5K iMac (at 218 PPI) the screen size will not change, staying at 21.5". Here's an image with the code: Now, for part 2 of the story. In the same piece of code Apple mentions unreleased AMD R9-M3XX GPUs, the R9-M380, M390, M395 and the M395X. These would be a step up from the R9-M370X found in the top spec 15" Retina MacBook Pro. It is unclear which GPU goes in what machine though. The 21.5" iMac would probably go up to the M380, possibly the M390, while the 27" iMac with the 5K display gets it all the way to the M395X. There is no info on those GPUs right now as AMD hasn't even officially announced them so we can't tell what the performance and specs are compared to what's in the current iMacs. Here are the GPUs: Also mentioned in there is the Intel Iris Pro 6200 iGPU, which is already on the market under certain desktop Broadwell CPUs suggesting Apple is interested in releasing an iMac wit Broadwell chips inside. However, with Skylake basically right around the corner this would be highly unlikely since it would mean they'd be releasing 2 big refreshes within 5 months. What's likely however is that Apple is using Broadwell CPUs for internal testing. Also found in the latest OS X El Capitan beta is a file called AppleBluetoothRemote.kext, suggesting that Apple will release an update Apple Remote with multi touch gestures, Bluetooth connectivity (instead of infrared) and possibly audio support, supposedly for Siri integration, hinting at an Apple TV refresh which was supposedly delayed again just before WWDC earlier this month. We'll probably hear more about this in Apple's last event of 2015, probably early November when Apple usually talks about Macs and iPads.

Hello to all. I have a macbook pro 2012 non retina and I was just wondering whether I should upgrade to an ssd from a hard drive while I am using Yosemite because more support is available for it online. I want to do a fresh install. Or, should I just wait for osx el Capitan and then upgrade my ssd? Also, will there be any conference if I switch to an ssd and then update to osx el Capitan? Thanks.
